Holdouts

Just come accross one in my league. An 11 year guy, who is a good player, but just starting to slide. How often do these players who hold out back down in this game?

He is looking for a signing bonus, which seems very dodgy at this point in his career......

In my experience, they almost always seem to cave by the start of the season. Don't know if it's a function of things like the loyalty rating or just random, but nearly all my holdouts show up by the start of the regular season.

edit: ugh

I just had a guy holdout saying that he felt he was underpaid for a starter. The fact that he started 8 games due to injury and was back to 3rd or 4th on the depth chart was of no consequence. I let him wait and after training camp he decided that "loyalty was more important than money." Which I will remember when his contract expires after next season.

Trade em.

I almost always trade holdouts. It is usually an older player or a borderline starter and they are worth more to me as picks then as a higher paid player.

I even traded my young QB when he held out. Was 4th year 51/57 and wanted 6 years over 90 mil. I got 3 1s a 2 and a vertren QB to fill in for the season.

I figure even if I meet their short term demands they will still be looking for a big payday in 2 or 3 years

I just don't like being extorted, I guess.

As Groucho said, "I have my principles. And if you don't like those, I have others."
