For all of you in debt, this is my "feel good" story of the week...
It all started with one of my player, a 17 y.o. Canadian named John Macahan, and the training update of this past Friday. See, John trained very hard for the last 4 weeks, and after joining the team as an inadequate playmaker, he was finally rewarded for his efforts by finally becoming a passable playmaker.
See, while John was a hard worker, also blessed with some inadequate passing skills, he was also a nasty fellow and he wasn't able to run hard for very long, as demonstrated by his weak stamina. Worst of all, he almost had some mind control capabilities, as demonstrated by his passable leadership abilities. This combination was the one often referred to has him being the "team cancer", since no other team member has leadership skills above passable...
Well, all that taken into account, John was put on the transfer market Friday, at about a quarter to one, eastern time, exactly 18:47, HT time...
Here's John player card:
John Macahan (10780107)
17 years, inadequate form, healthy
A nasty fellow who is fiery and infamous.
Has disastrous experience and passable leadership abilities.
Speciality: Technical
Nationality: Canada
Assessed value: 92 000 C$ this is 46 000 U$
Wage: 1 320 C$/week
Owner: Pintendre Pittbulls
Warnings: 0
Stamina: weak Goaltending: disastrous
Playmaking: passable Passing: inadequate
Winger: poor Defending: weak
Scoring: weak Set Pieces: poor
Asking price was set to 49 000 C$, or 24,500 U$. Given the late date we are coming to in the Hattrick season, I thought this pricewas fair, hoping a newbie wouldn't see the many negative sides of John (nasty & passable leadership, has just popped, weak stamina) and would fire a bid with hope of getting a passable 17yo...
I logged on this morning, still no bids had been put for John. I wasn't really desperate, as I knew that there was still two more days to go until the deadline. I left my computer logged into Hattrick, not thinking about it anymore, and went outside to do some yardwork. When I got back aound lunch time there was a little message in the newsflash box at the bottom of the screen that said "S_L_Tiger raises for John Macahan". First thought was "cool" but no more. I click the link and here's what the message is...

S_L_Tiger offered 95 000 Euro for John Macahan and thereby took the lead in the bidding.
Deadline is 6/9/2003 at 18:47

I know very well what the conversion rate for Euro to CDN$ is in Hattrick, it the same as US$ to CDN$, 2 to 1, meaning 1 Euro = 1 US$ = 2 CDN$. I was thinking about something else and mentally calculated how much the bid was by reversing the conversion (dividing the bid by 2 instead of multiplying it by two). Without any reason, I then clicked on the player's link and saw the real bid in CDN$... 190 000 C$!!!!!
This was totally unexpected and unaccounted in my financial projections (yes, I do financial projections for my HT team :) ) but it will nicely help me add an extra 2000 seats to my stadium upgrade. Now instead of upgrading from 12000 to 20004 seats, I'll be upgrading to 22004 seats...
Before you ask, no that team isn't owned by a complete newbie, he's had that team since February 22, only 3 days after I got mine. His transfer history also has 27 transfer to it... Don't know what he was thinking, but I should like what he did!!!
May the same happen to all of you, may a weirdo Portugal guy overbid on one of your player like that :D
