Hey guys,

If any of you have played in an ESMS or MSWL style league, there is a college football league starting up, where the guy created his own software to run the leagues.

The "Commissioner" I have known online since 1996 and he is the one that got me thinking about an Indoor Soccer Sim way back then (See it took me 5 years to start one).

Anyways, it will be a blast, you create your own university, and play some football.

Visit it http://home.earthlink.net/~tcfa/

Thanks

Ok, well, I will work on the schematics of the conference at work today, see if I can get a messageboard added for it and then submit it to everyone.

If we do a total FOFC conference that would be a lot of teams.

We may have to set a limit to twelve teams.

Or maybe we could have more than one FOFC conference, like arrange teams according to their region. Something like FOFC East and FOFC West or something like that. That could cut down on travelling costs...

FFF, an alerion is sort of an eagle that we usually see in "armoirie" (can't find a translation). The "Université Laval" is my alma mater and their sports teams are the "Rouge et Or" (Red and Gold) but I didn't want that name for my team. I went for something that is part of the school emblem, here's a link to the school's explanation about the word Alérion (warning, this is in French)

It's really simplified and real strategical knowledge of football is not really necessary. If you can follow a football game, you could have fun with it too, maybe learn about the game. Read the rules, they are very, very simple...

in the rules, part two, they explain that you initially get 20 BRPs per level of prestige of your school. Your current number of BRPs is presented on your school page, right under the location.

Mine says 40, so I'm a prestige 2 school. So does your BRP level, and dMB's too, so he's also a level 2 prestige school...

Ok- I just signed up....
Louisiana Cyclone University, we are the Cyclones....one of these days I will have to come up with a new nickname for all my teams.

I like the idea of setting up region based conferences; here are the rules about conferences and it seems that it is probably a good idea to have 10 or 12 teams to a conference; depending on how many teams sign up we can adjust the numbers to make multiple conferences possible....

[2.3] Conferences

Groups of schools may agree to form conferences. A conference is an agreement among schools to play one another on an annual basis, and to crown a champion according to certain rules. In TCFA, a conference must have six or more teams. It must select one of its member coaches to be the conference president (though the position can rotate on an annual basis), and it must have rules for crowning a conference champion, including tie-breakers if two or more teams have identical conference records.

If all of the above criteria are met, AND each team in the conference plays seven games against seven different conference opponents (in conferences with nine or more members) OR one game against every other team in in the conference (in conferences with six to eight members), the champion of that conference will be eligible for an automatic trip to a post-season bowl game.

How many teams would you be looking to have in each conference? With a 10 game season 12 teams would mean all conference games, but not every team would play every team. I have not yet been 'given' my team but I am pretty sure I would be in region 4- kinda in a bad spot since not many teams are in region 4...if any.

A quick question I had after reading the rules-
"The following actions are illegal and will cause you to suffer in-game sanctions:

Coaching or training a player more than once in a given week. . ."

With only 1 game a week how would this even be possible?

In a conference with 12 teams you only have to play seven conference games, so it is possible to schedule non-conference opponenets.

There is at least one other team in region 4.

I am assuming he means if you submit the same player twice for training in one week. Most of his rules seem to be in place to keep coaches active, paying attention, and under control.

He just sent an email on the mailing list, here's what he had to say:

Things that have happened so far:

1. Several questions and answers have been added to the FAQ file.

2. A bunch of new teams have been added.

3. I have created two new e-mail addresses for the league:

[email protected] is the place to send your lineups,
recruiting orders, and coaches' poll ballots. [email protected] is the place for you and your opponent to
send your agreement to play. If I don't get an identical agreement
from both opponents, there will be no game. The agreement doesn't
need any special formatting, it just needs to say something like
"Boston College agrees to play Syracuse in Syracuse."

Please make sure everything gets to the proper address. The addresses
may be still in the process of being created, so hold off on sending
your orders for the preseason scrimmages until then.

4. People have started to use the Locker Room to talk about forming
conferences and schedule games, which is very very good. Keep it up.

Things which still need to happen:

1. There are a couple of teams still in the hopper that I will be
creating shortly.

2. People need to make plans for pre-season scrimmages. Only games
for which I have scheduling agreements from both teams AND lineups
from both teams will be played; everyone else will miss out on a
chance to get some practice in.

3. I'm fine-tuning the coaches' poll program. Instructions for
casting your vote will be circulated shortly.

I hope everyone's having fun; I sure am.

two quick questions:
>> 1) do we pay travelling fees for preseason scrimmage?
>> 2) Will the preseason scrimmage be run on Thursday like the regular
>> season?
> Also wanted to ask:
> 3) do our players get training and coaching?

1) No. Travel for a scrimmage is free.
2) The orders are due Thursday. Depending on my schedule, the games may be run Thursday, Friday or Saturday. This is true of season games as well.
3) No.

Guys, if you have signed up, make sure you also sign up for the mailing list, or else your team will be deleted. If you have nto signed up already, consider doing it soon, look at the latest update from the mailing list:

A whole bunch of new teams have been added to the game, maybe even yours.

We've pretty much reached the point at which I'm leery of adding still more teams, but there's been a lot of people who have

A. looked at the home page;
B. presumably read the whole thing, including the part which tells you to sign up for the mailing list after you apply for a team; C. clicked on the "Apply For A Team" link; D. applied for a team; E. been taken to the page which thanks you for applying and tells you to sign up for the mailing list now that you've applied, F. and refused to sign up for the mailing list.

I'm not sure if they're waiting for an engraved invitation or what, but I'm not terribly inclined to hold their hand throughout this process. Teams without coaches on this mailing list are going to end up in the great electronic circular file, which should thin the herd a bit.

I know the mascot were the Devil Terps, team something like ACC ... and I based it in Charlottesville, VA (combined my present school and alma mater were part of it, our conference--soon to expan--is another part, and the places where I'm looking for med school are the final part of my team info...)

Where would I find the page for my team?

With only 46 teams involved in the TCFA right now, I think 12 team conferences would be a little ridiculous. I think the FOFC East should be an 8-Team conference. That way everyone plays everyone each year.

Accepted Teams:
Laval U 2
Miskatonic U 3
UMass 2
Dean College 3

This means we are looking for 4 more teams from regions 1/2. I will also post on the other message board and the first 4 teams to post will be allowed in. To join, post your teams info (Name/Region/Prestige) and propose a name for the conference.

Well, I won't start a FOFC based conference, basically cause we own the league (LOL!)

However, I am thinking of starting up a Western Confernce, something that will work with my region (which is 8)

I have an invite from someone to join their conference, but I am waiting to hear back, and see if he answers my questions.

I am working on the Western Conference though, just in case.

Region 3:

ACC University - terpkristin
North Carolina - radii
Kennessaw State - larrymcg

Region 4:

I'd suggest the higher prestiege team gets to be the home team, since travelling distance doesn't matter.

Also, any idea of who I might talk to about changing the appearance of my team page? Everytime I look at it, I get blinded by the striking red background and can barely read the blue text...

Finally...I could use a scrimmage, ACC University in Region 3. :p

Sony confirmed his interest so we have a solid 8 teams, we will definitely have a conference of just region 3/4 teams. if MattJones4Heisman is also interested we'll have 9 teams.

I asked on the TCFA board about exactly what steps we need to go through tog et it officially set up, and we have some thigns to decide on(such as a confernce name), and we have until Next Thursday to get it in.

I'll be starting up a new thread for our conference to discuss/agree on all the details and then I'll post it on the TCFA board.

Short answer, we've got 8 people so we have a conference for certain, just have to nail down the details over the next couple of days.

The formation is based on the number of each position you submit to him. And the answer for your second question is no.

Format for lineup instruction is on the Rules page at TCFA.

As an aside, Long Beach State (LSU) still need a game on Thursday. Is anyone available and interested?

Hey Dennis,

I have read the rules for the Conference and am willing to give it a go in the Western States Conference. There might need to be a tweak of the schedule as the admin has put out this reqest.

A small request:

Can those of you who are starting conferences please spread the conference games out over the entire season, so that Independent schools still have a choice of opponents in the later weeks?

(In other words, don't have the entire conference playing non-con games for the first three weeks of the season and then have everyone playing league games from there on out.)

Does that make sense to people?

Gotcha, rule change will be made.

We are at six teams now, we need 4 more.

I am limited on the computer at work so those who can, persuade some of the other region 7,8,9 teams to come aboard. We need 4 more

For regoin 5/6 coaches. . .

A goodly number of our guys had joined the region 5 conference being advertised on the game's forum. I went ahead & joined up, but they're still looking for more.

Im looking for 3 non conference games this next season. Week doesn't matter.

I do want to with 2 home and 1 away. and we will rotate next season with me travelling to the 2 schools and the one I go to this season will come to HVU.

Anyone willing to play Happy Valley U and secure at least 1 game on their schedule for two seasons?

Hey guys I signed up for this a few days ago but got really bogged down at work and haven't been able to keep up with the thread. I'm in Region 1, Dorchester U., I'd like you join a conference. Can someone let me know if a Region 1 has already been set-up?

If it hasn't I'm willing to help start one.

Kevin, the Solecismic Eight conference has already been setup in regions 1 and 2. It's already up to 8 schools and 1 is on the waiting list. I don't know what you can do.

Check out the TCFA forum, there's a thread on there.

EDIT: I got beat to the punch...

Dola.
At last count, there were 7 region 1 teams and 8 region 2 schools, so yes there should be enough for 2 different conferences...

Try and do one with the higher prestige schools...

Cool deal. Long Beach State (LBS) travels to ACC University (ACC), then? I like ACC country. At least for visiting.

And we'll try our best to give the specialist you're seeing on the 15th a full days work.

results of preseason scrimmages are available, in case you didn't know.

We (Laval University) lost 20-0 against Doug's Louisiana Cyclone University. Not too bad since I'm a prestige 2 school and he's a prestige 3 school. Training and coaching should probably help us smaller schools close the gap but we'll remain without much depth... This will be a long season in Pittsfield, MA... :)

How did it go for you all?

41-0 win against Kennessaw St., prestige 1 school. Check out his dynasty report.

I basically played my best available players, regardless of position.

It is indeed gonna be a long season for us. However fellow frogman, we're lucky enough to be in pretty weak conference, so at least, we won't get blown away every week...

Agreed, it's gonna be a looong season indeed. As you said, we are luckily in a "soft" conference. Let's hope our training will develop some sort of strength somewhere on our teams...

WOW, I just saw that Nyarlahotep's school only lost 10-0. Thing is he is in my conference and while his school is a prestige 3 program, that team he played was a prestige 5

My respect for Nyar's chances at winning our conference just jumped many steps upward...
