I'm all perplexed by these new rules...but I just bought this guy cheap, is he good?!?
He could replace my current coach in a few seasons (I know I have to wait a full season before transfer).

I'll be the first to admit that the new coaching rules and regs also confuse me. As I see it, since this guy already has inadequate experience, if you played him a bit to get his experience up to solid or ::gasp:: excellent (I haven't the foggiest how long this would take, mind you...), I imagine he'd be a decent coach. One thing to note is that he has weak leadership and is dishonest, so hopefully he wouldn't also be a team leader...

Thanks...I'm also looking for bargains to sell...I figure there may be a modest profit...grab them cheap, and sell them cheaper than the market price...but it does blow my mind.

Depending on what your other wingers look like, you should play him a bit, see if his experience "pops" and then see about making a coach of him.

As the system is brand new and all, everyone here is pretty much talking out of their ass when it comes to advice, of course.

Hopefully, the first of us here at FOFC who takes the plunge and tries for a new coach under this system will report back with their results.

Hrm. Depends . . .

1) His Experience: If/when he pops to passable, he'll be able to become a passable coach. That's a GoodThing[tm]. Definitely the cheaper way to get yourself a passable coach nowadays.

2) His Leadership: As the scheme is to go, leadership decays to show the coach "aging". His weak means that after 1-2 seasons, he'll drop to poor (and on the way to wretched in another 1-2). I've haven't seen too much discussion on how MUCH a coach's leadership effect the match but that's what it's suppose to effect. If it has serious effect, having a weak (and consequently poor) may be a BadThing[tm]. Also, after his leadership reaches wretched, the aging effect decays coaching skill instead so your coach has a shelf-life of about 3-4 seasons.

Back to the point ('bout time) . . . If you intend to use him as a temporary stopgap passable coach (he wouldn't be able to do solid unless he plays frequently and pops again, anyhow) for about 3-4 seasons while saving up for another (or a solid) and improving your team, he may be worth it. That's if you don't think coaching leadership will effect your teamplay very much or don't care.

Player turned coach:

The level of coach skill is limited to the players experience.

Player A: poor or lower exp.
- can't become coach

Player B: weak exp.
- weak coach

Player C: inad exp.
- weak coach
- inad coach

Player D: pass exp.
- weak coach
- inad coach
- pass coach

Player E: solid exp.
- weak coach
- inad coach
- pass coach
- solid coach

Player D: excellent or higher exp.
- weak coach
- inad coach
- pass coach
- solid coach
- excellent coach

the player turned coach will keep his current leadership level.

Also, a couple questions:

1) Will a coach's wage still be $500 per week, even if they are a converted player?

2) If a player is converted to a coach, does he retain his skills? Homer McHugh, for example... If I converted a star player, would he become unplayable?

3) Does this all mean the experience jumps are not random?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Converted players keep their player wages.

2. Converted players keep their skills and can play. Then can also train themselves.

3. As far as I knew they were never random but some people insisted they were.

4. Indy, Leadership for coaches has always mattered nothing has changed in that regard.

so if you've got this player:

Sus Pect
34, pass form, healthy
wages: $2,500/week

popular, blah, blah
solid exp, inad leadership

St: excellent Keeper: wretched
PM: formidable Passing: passable
Winger: poor Defending: inadequate
Scoring: wretched Set Pieces: Solid

he can be this coach

Sus Pect
34, pass form, healthy

wages: $2,500/week

Solid coach off/def/neutral

popular, blah, blah
solid exp, inad leadership

St: excellent Keeper: wretched
PM: formidable Passing: passable
Winger: poor Defending: inadequate
Scoring: wretched Set Pieces: Solid

and you'll still be paying him $2,500 a week as a coach BUT,
he can play and train himself to boot...

$2,500/week is a pretty good value for that player ;)

The bugger just sold for $233k :( I ran out of $$ to bid for him. Ended up getting a crummy player with passable experience. Perhaps he'll pop to solid in the year I play him in friendlies.
