OT: Phils Players in A-Rod Sweepstakes?

Philadelphia sports radio (admittedly not the bastion of journalistic integrity, mind you) is reporting an unsubstantiated rumor that the Phillies now are involved in the sadly underhyped A-Rod trade talks.

According to the report, the Phils would ship Jimmy Rollins and Bobby Abreu to Beantown. The Sox would send Nomar and Trot Nixon to the Phils, then trade Manny and Rollins to the Rangers for the $25 million man.

Anyone in either Boston or Texas heard anything to indicate that there's fire attached to this particular puff of hot stove smoke?

Wasn't Adreu a big pain in the ass under the previous Francona regime?

But how can Philly eat that kind of salary to make Boston better? They just got done offering Millwood arbitration that was going to push them past $75M ( the supposed fiscal line in the sand...)

And now theyre going to trade a $3M OF and a $2M SS to take on a $8M SS and a $4M OF? I cant see Wade getting that fantasy trade past the tightfisted owners...

Abreu's best seasons came under Francona - I dont think he disliked Francona as much as the mgmt in Philly.

I believe you are missing the fact that Nomar wants to be traded only to LA. Then again, I guess he can suffer one year in Philly before coming to the Angels or Dodgers

It's not in any way up to Nomar...

Nomar is a free agent after this season...like Millwood (if he accepts arbitration), like Wagner, like Milton...lotsa free money next season.

I think Abreu overall is a better hitter. Nixon has real problems against left handed pitchers. Abreu seems to hit both pretty well. But I agree overall I don't think it is a huge down grade from Abreu to Nixon. And Nomar is a huge upgrade from Rollins. Seems like it would be a good deal for the Phils if it's true.

IMO, Abreu's OBP's are much more impressive, and I think Trot had a career year last year, while Abreu didn't (understatement). Yes, Nomar would be nicer to have than Rollins. But I don't know if I would want to part with Abreu for a year of Nomar.
