I'm guessing you should probably dominate your new conference, since your prestige is so high. Don't most 2-level conferences have teams in the 20-40 range?Well, College of Charleston is a little above me. (They're 46, I'm 43.) There are 5 or 6 teams in the conference with prestige in the 30's, and then a small number in the teens and twenties. I should be one of the better teams. We're 2-1 lifetime against College of Charleston. We're 17-9 lifetime total against the other teams in the conference.

There was a bug that had a particularly nasty effect on a team like SkyDog's that kept him from raising his prestige properly. Soon after HR fixed it, it looks like things went a lot better.

There was a bug that had a particularly nasty effect on a team like SkyDog's that kept him from raising his prestige properly. Soon after HR fixed it, it looks like things went a lot better. Not just that, but it is definitely more difficult to gain prestige as an Indy, and the reason is simple and logical: no automatic NCAA bid for the champ. Only the highest-prestige Conference champ at each level is considered for a move up. and Southern Utah was winning the MCC virtually every season. With every MCC Tourney win, they were getting into the Big Dance, while I was *maybe* getting into the NIT. So, I wasn't even getting considered for a move up, and they haven't been able to move up to Level 2. I got lucky the last season in that they went 8-6 in conference play, and lost in the conference tourney.
So, I applied the update in the 2023 season, and it still took 'til 2036 to move up, primarily because of Southern Utah. (The three losing seasons I had during that stretch didn't help me either. In fact, in two of the three times that I wasn't the best Indy during since the patch, Southern Utah also didn't win their conference. I think I would have moved up in 2025--two years after the patch--if I had won it then. Instead, I went 13-16.

So SD's career here was pre-patch, I assume?

So SD's career here was pre-patch, I assume?Up to 2023. Read my post above for the details of why, beyond the bug, I didn't move up sooner. The lack of an automatic NCAA bid really hurts the chances of an Indy moving up (as it should, imho).

So do you expect to move up more quickly now that you're in a "real" conference?
Ben E Lou
03-17-2004, 06:02 PM
So do you expect to move up more quickly now that you're in a "real" conference? In general, I'd say it has *got* to be easier, although I read somewhere that there may be a "cap" on how high a smaller school can go. Also, in looking around at the Level two and three conferences, things look good as far as Level 2 goes: I have higher prestige than every Level 2 conference winner from last season. Getting 10 points above a Level three loser from the Southeast could happen soon. I need South Alabama (29) or Florida International (32) to finish last in the Sun Belt soon in the same year that I win the Southern. Apart from those two, it looks like just about every southeastern Level 3 school has prestige in the 50's or 60's. Wiht a little luck, I could be in the Sun Belt pretty quickly, or so it would appear.

Fascinating.
What makes a school "small?" Is it strictly a static thing, or can it grow? Is it based on enrollment, stadium size, etc?

I don't know if it will screw things up initially or not to change it in the middle of a dynasty. I would think that it wouldn't, especially if you just go to "Limited" movement, which is very nice, imho.

It would likely be a slow fall from there depending on how close you come to the goal each year.

Either will do.

No. You would need the best record in the entire conference. Just winning your division isn't enough.

How's the gametime micromanagement? Or better, what do you do?

Gametime, you can make subs, adjust defensive matchups, defensive sets, and general settings (pace, motion, 3-pointers).
Or, you can let the computer do it, and it does just fine (see SkyDog's success - I can't imagine he's micromanaged 40 seasons already).

You will enjoy it then, Buc. I will occasionally "watch" one of my games, but I've never coached one in 20 seasons. I will usually check the box score after every couple of games to make sure players are generally getting the minutes I want for them.
The real enjoyment for me is following the standings, the RPI, the bubble watch. Trying to figure out if I am going to make the tournament, etc. I also enjoy watching guys move up my team records list. Right now, for example I have a guy who should break my career assist record by the end of the season--with a little luck he will end up placing pretty high on the NCAA list as well.

Thanks RPI, my interest in this game (as in TCY) is seeing the standings, league leaders and of course, the brackets, and where my team places in each.Buc, I have a feeling that this game is perfect for you. The out-of-game strategy controls are simple, can be set for general strategies (1 to 10 scale for about 8 different things such as Pressing, Use of 3-pointers, etc.), and have an obvious impact on game play. I have watched one or two games just out of curiosity, but haven't done so in a long time and am still having a blast.

I can fully relate. I forgot about the RPI and bubble watch. Those, along with the standings (and the tournament), were the only thing I followed in real-life college basketball, esp the last month of the season. Except for a couple of SU guys, I can't tell you the name of any other college hoops player (except for the tall, skinny guy with the 1970s afro from Stanford - Josh Freeman? He was on the cover of TSN).

So do you expect to move up more quickly now that you're in a "real" conference?More on this...
The difference is pretty significant. Here are some post-patch prestige numbers:
First post-patch prestige (2023): 40
Max Prestige, 2023-2035 (indy years): 48
2035 Prestige: 43
2039 Prestige: 52
So, over a 13-season post-patch run as an indy, my net prestige gain was a measly 3 points, but in just four seasons (2036-2039) in the Southern Conference, it has gone up 9 points. Interestingly enough, I've only won the conference tourney once (although I've been regular season champ three times.) Plus, I bowed out in the first round of the NCAA's the year I won the conference tourney. I'm guessing that winning a more prestigious conference is making the difference.
Ben E Lou

Dola--
I've gotten a job offer from Providence. They're still in the Big East, but their prestige is down to 40. (Budget still pretty high: $486,875--made it tempting.) So, I guess that answers the question about getting a job offer more than one level above where you are. It can happen.
