View Full Version : SimGolf League "Rules" Discussion
Questions:
1. How many tourneys in an official SimSeason?
2. Are we going to do anything different for majors?
Any other questions I can't think of?

What do I get with my prize money(assuming when I win it). If you win tournaments will you be able to buy more abilities?

I would assume Chubby won't be a part of this, which is good cause Im sure hed figure out how to bend the rules to death.

Wig, is it okay for me to use sandbox to design a course for this?
I'd like to build valhalla C.C up.. as its the only major golf course i've actually played :)

Why was top prize only $360K at Wigwood? Is that affected by what difficulty level you select to play the championship in?

It might be kind of fun if like the top 5 people in a tourney got to increase 1 ability and the the bottom 5 had to lose 1 ability, w/ a max of say 580 and an opportunity to regen if you fell below 400. Might also be a nightmare for Wig to maintain though.
For majors, maybe we should do a multi-day event w/ a cut. We'd have to track it offline since the game doesn't do multiple round tourneys. Again, it might be too much to track/maintain (and I certainly woudn't want to do it for non-majors).

I think the top prize depends on the total purse and number of golfers. The total purse is based on the SVGA rating I believe.

Or use prize money to buy ability upgrades.

I'm opposed to there being any sort of ratings modifier based on success or failure. I like the idea that all the golfers are equal right now and thus some should do better on some courses than others.
As for the length of the season, I think a full rotation through the courses sounds right and I agree with the idea about not doing anything more special for the majors.

Can we use other courses that are available on the official SimGolf site? Some of them are pretty good.
I'd like to see a schedule set.
What are the possibilities of us having 72 hole tournaments using the same course, like real life? And just keeping track of earnings and scores on the side, I am willing to help as needed.

I'm going to put the finishing touches on my course tonight, wig, so don't use it for today's tourney if there is one.
I hope to start working on a second course after that.
The difficulty of the tourney affects the prize money. I ran WigWood on difficult

I'd like to see some way for golfer's abilities to improve a bit. But I've only seen my guy in one tournament, so maybe he won't suck so bad on a different course.

Yes, you can use Sandbox
My take:
1. I wouldn't mind running through each course twice, but once is ok if we have enough.
2. For Majors, I kind of like the idea of running more than one round. The prize money should probably stay the same.
I don't like golfer improvement, but I do support tweaking of golfer stats. The end result should stay at or below 480.

I'd rather only use SimGolf League courses. It's kind of the main point of the "league".
This first group of tourneys is really a test season of sorts. After we work out the kinks, we'll have a posted schedule.
Either tomorrow or Friday, we'll have a multi-round tourney to see how that works.

If you mean allow everyone to change their golfer for every tournament, I'd vote no. People would just make them long hitters on the long courses, accurate on the narrow, etc.. I guess it depends on what you mean by 'tweaking'.
I kind of like the idea that people have to choose their attributes up front, knowing that they'll play better on the courses that suit their skills and they'll play poorly on others.

I think tweaking should be allowed because real life golfers tweak their games for certain courses.
But there should be no more than a +1 or -1 change in any given attribute from one tournament to the next. Meaning that I can say that my golfer really worked on working a good draw during the week of practice before the tournament, but by doing that he had to have another part of his game suffer a bit because of a lack of practice. Maximum is always 480 but you can +1 or -1 any attribute from one week to the next. Maybe a maximum of 2 attributes can be +1 in one week.

I find this to be a intriguing idea but that be a bit much work wise plus most people will change their stats generally the same to fit the course so you would still end up with the same result stat wise compared to the field.

Maybe after a given season you could go +1 per every 250k made or something to a stat.. the monetary amount could be debateable.. of course. but it would be need to be high enough to where we don't turn into supergolfers

I am all for: one pass through the courses as a tourney. If we get too many courses, we can figure it out then.
Majors should not be any different, just prize money (unless we want to make some special acknowledgement for whoever does best on the majors).
Single rounds on each course are fine, although multi-day events would be awesome (I'm willing to help out with spreadsheet support as needed).
Golfers should be the same throughout a tourney, but can be tweaked between tourneys. The idea is to compare the golfers, so we need a complete set with the same data to call a winner. Then redo the data between tourneys.
gstelmack brought up a great point.
RULE #1: Golfers can be tweaked in the offseason, but not during the season!

RULE #2: Tournaments will be played on Moderate level. The money is distributed much better.

Sounds good.
Are we waiting to get a critical number of courses before we start a season?

Can we get copies of the courses to see what our players will be playing on (or in my case, how badly they're going to be playing)?

No, we're running 1 more tourney (multi-round) and then starting the season.

I've got two courses done, neither are great though. Should I just submit them for review? They are based on somewhat more realism to some extent at least.

Sure, send them in!
I'm trying to make a championship par 3 course. :)
What about 2 courses per week as a schedule for the league?
One will be mid-week and one on the weekend. The weekend one will be replaced every couple weeks by a major.
Thoughts?

Sounds like a fine schedule. BTW, I'll volunteer to handle an occasional Major round if you do the multi-round thing and want help.

RULE #3: Tournaments will be played at a pace of 2 per week. One will be mid-wek, and one on the weekends. (specific days depend on our RL schedules)
RULE #4: Majors will replace the weekend tournaments on designated Major weeks. Majors will be 3 rounds.
RULE #5: The season will last as long as it takes to run through each course 2 times.

Wig - When is the deadline for submitting courses for this season? You may want to create another topic for signing up for the league that states you do not have to have the game to join. It would be sweet if we could get 35 people and I am guessing some people don't read the topics since they don't have the game. I don't know, I have been wrong before once or twice, well ok quite often.
Whatever courses we have at the beginning of the season we'll use for that season.
We'll add new courses each season
