<HR style="COLOR: #aaaaaa" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->OK, the wait is over http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/board/images/smilies/smile.gif
You can get the patch here:
DOWNLOAD 6.03 PATCH (http://ootpdevfiles.com/ootp/ootp603.exe)
The patch fixes/enhances the following:
- Improved waivers AI. Teams now handle it more carefully (prospects), and also pull players off waivers
if they have no interest in losing them
- Fixed option years counting, in previous versions players had one extra option year (4 instead of 3).
- Fixed Minor league FA toggle, it was reversed.
- Improved game simming speed
- Fixed salary and possible free agent reports. The latter now displays players who have reached 6 years of MLB service
and so are definitely FA at the end of the season.
- Fixed pinch-hit for DH bug
- Improved pitching change logic
- Fixed promotion days importing bug, the game deducted too much cash from teams
- Removed financial figures/options in non-financial leagues
- Tweaked player development to allow slightly more young stars
- Fixed small bugs
Enjoy!
Cheers,
Markus

Hopefully this'll get me back into the game...though Hold 'Em has been taking up a lot of my time :)

Same here, at least the first part.
I'm glad to see that kind of player is possible now. Not that 4000 hit guys should be a common occurrence, but I've simmed about 200 years in several careers, and never saw anyone get beyond 3600.

Further data on that league...
(and actually I was slightly incorrect. It ran from 2004-2091: 88 seasons.)
3 hitters had 3,500+ hits....4279, 3904, 3659 were the top 3.
7 hitters had 700+ homers....top three were 849, 777, 737 (before y'all go gettting alarmed, keep in mind that this is 88 seasons run with current home run hitting totals.)
4 players had 800+ SB's.
One pitcher had 300+ wins: 356! (another issue with playing all Modern Era...I use 250 as my HOF benchmark when using Modern...7 had 250+)

Hey Ben, these guys with the records, are they from the intial player pool or are they players that come along during your 88 year?
I see now that the 4000 H guys come along in 2037. What about the others?

Most are created players, but #8 all-time HR guy (689) was in the original pool. He was 24 when the pool was created, and was in the bigs from day 1. Why?

I just wanted to make sure they were created.
You get the 19-22 year olds in the intial player pool that are ML ready as superstars. I was wondering if any of those guys was one of those.

I had one of those in the league I used for my first OOTP Dynasty thread. He was 19 or 20 and hit 30ish HR's in his first year. I didn't run across any guys like that in this patch.

Why y'all just focusing on player development? How about some comments on AI roster management and GM stuff?

Just looking over the HTML from the test league I'm running right now, it appears that there's another good sign for player development. I'm seeing more under-30 players among the league leaders than I saw in previous iterations.

because OOTP is only worth playing when you compete against human opponents.

I'm running a long-term sim, and thought I'd take a gander at the almanac as things move along. I can't wait to see what this guy is gonna become!

because OOTP is only worth playing when you compete against human opponents.
Hmm, I enjoy my solo league.

One thing I'm noticing fairly consistently with this patch is that 24/25 is the "magic age" for most big-time power hitters, meaning that even if they hit the bigs at a younger age, that tends to be the first 30-HR year. I've seen a few exceptions, which is good.

Anyone hit the wall at age 21 like Andruw Jones? :(

Anyone hit the wall at age 21 like Andruw Jones? :(I was thinking the same thing. I haven't seen anyone like him ever in OOTP. Of course, I don't know if there's ever been another player in MLB with a development curve quite like his...

the minor league free agent seems broken still..
if you have it enabled in league setting and goto salary reports , the report dont show some minor league players listed as "Minor League FA next year"..
but if you have it disabled in league setting and goto salary report in front office, the report will show some minor league player listed as "Minor League FA next year"
Also the ones that says "Minor league Fa next year" on the salary report and you click on there player card or player html card it shows Minor League Free Agency : Not eligible yet... why the player salary report saying he a minor league free agent next year and the player says not eligible?
check this out and you will see..
Also Markus said "Fixed Minor league FA toggle, it was reversed." for patch 6.03. Now that making me wonder if that was really fix too...

His OPS has been better than age 21 in 3 of the 6 years since then too.
Now maybe you meant "hit the wall" differently than I took the phrase.
When I hear that, I usually associate it not only with the end of progress but also with a subsequent decline. What Jones look like to me is more of a case of "hitting the ceiling", he's been only a bit better than at age 21, but there's not been any sort of sharp decline either.

Same here, at least the first part.
I'm glad to see that kind of player is possible now. Not that 4000 hit guys should be a common occurrence, but I've simmed about 200 years in several careers, and never saw anyone get beyond 3600.Postscript on this. I'm now up to 2082 on the career that I uploaded in 2054. There is one 4,000-hit guy, and no one has eclipsed 700 homers (although there is a 35-year-old with 649 who looks like a virtual lock, considering he's hit 50+ in each of the last five seasons). Eight guys have 600+. #'s 2-19 in all-time wins have 278 down to 218 wins, but the top pitcher has 359.

Sigh. It appears only fast-simmers need to apply.
Much of the talk regarding 6.0-6.02 was focused on waivers, 40-man rosters, trade AI and the like, and then all I see here is focusing on a player 50 years from now?
Playing historical leagues with Lahman (or Ankit) consist of much different player development equations. But common to all solo play, regardless how one does it, is the competitiveness of the AI. That's why I asked.
andy m: That's not true. Go read my 1960s St Louis Cardinals dynasty and see how someone can have great fun playing solo OOTP. It's not as competitive as MP OOTP but it is fun in many other ways - for some.

After 100 years...
1 player with >4,000 hits (4094)
12 with 3,500-3,999
1 player with >800 homers (888)
3 with 700-799 (737, 741, 796)
9 with 600-699
Ksyrup will like this: 4 players with >1,000 SB's! (1182, 1070, 1007, 1005). The career leader, with 1,182, was somewhat Henderson-esque. He had only four seasons of >20 HR's, but had a career .382 OBP. The game seems to cap SB's by computer players at around 80. This guy had 65 or more 7 different times. He hit the bigs at age 21, played a full season (with 53 SB's) at 22 and (unlike Henderson) hung 'em up when he was still a pretty solid everyday player. He scored 89 runs, stole 40 bases, and won a Gold Glove at age 41 and hung 'em up after that year--the only time in his career that he struck out over 100 times.
I'm leaving the office now. I'll start this career uploading to the same link. It should be up in an hour or so if all goes well.

Look at your number 2 prospect in the league. Tiger Molina. This is what bothers me about the game.
321/425/588 32 home runs in A ball in 2102 3rd year in single A.
I've got an idea, let's send him back for a fourth year...
95 home runs in single A in 4 years and no promotion?

Here's a completely unrelated question: does anybody know why, in the player's career stats summary, some years include the league abbreviation next to the team abbreviation, and why some years don't? For example (from SkyDog's league):
2031 157 614 185 44 0 10 95 71 45 95 0 0 .301 .349 .422 .771 TB
2032 158 630 203 61 0 26 118 91 45 97 0 1 .322 .367 .543 .910 TB,L1
I see this all the time, and have no idea if it is supposed to mean something or not. I remember this being around back in earlier versions of OOTP as well.

I thought I'd write a little history of the sub-plots in the career of the league's greatest slugger, Jose "The Sheriff" Gonzalez (http://www.younglifenorthdekalb.com/ootp603/r3277.html).
Drafted in 1st round, 2nd overall pick, by Toronto in 2070...Toronto drafts the league's greatest player ever as a 19-year-old second overall, forever sparking debate in New York City, where SS Albert Kamm was drafted 1(1) overall by the Mets. The name "Albert Kamm" appears to be a mere footnote to history, as it can not be found anywhere in the league's rich history--not among team leaders, league leaders, Gold Glove winners, etc. I'll have to check the Almanacs when I get to the office to find out whatever became of "Dat Bum Dey Drafted Insteada Da Sheriff", as Kamm is and forever will be known in Queens.
The Sheriff spends one year in A Ball, and part of another rapidly ascending from AA to AAA to The Show, where he arrives and has a solid half-season at age 20:

Would this young star stick with the organization that drafted him and nurtured him, and the city that grew to love him, or follow the lure of the almighty dollar? Looks like the choice was easy:
Signed as a free agent by Baltimore on 2/22/2078 to a 5-year deal worth $25,265,300 per year... $25M when he has only had one superstar season! An outrage! Owners all over the league mock O's owner Cal Ripken IV and GM Quint Ripken (Cal V) for this lavish overspending. The Ripkens rationale is that The Sheriff could be the piece that puts a financially successful franchise over the top on the field. After all, they'd turned nice profits for the previous three seasons:

The O's lose in the ALCS to (ironically...) Toronto in both 2079 and 2080. The Sheriff is booed and ridiculed unmercifully in Toronto in 2079 as he struggles to a miserable 2 for 22 (.091) in the ALCS against his former teammates. He redeems himself in 2080, though, hitting .300 with a 1.381 OPS in the ALCS. However, the rest of his team can't do much as they lose again. Finally, in 2081 the O's advance to the World Series after a stirring 4-games-to-3 ALCS over Toronto. However, they fall meekly, 4 games to 1, to the Marlins in the Series. In 2082, the O's miss the playoffs, and Gonzalez has to sit at home and watch Toronto win their third title since he's been gone. (They only made the playoffs once in his seven seasons in Toronto, losing in the '75 Series.) It is too bitter a pill for him to swallow, so after five straight all-star appearances and four MVP's in Baltimore, he decides it is time to move on once again. Signed as a free agent by Montreal on 2/12/2083 to a 6-year deal worth $20,691,000 per year...The Expos were a recently-profitable franchise that appeared to be on the rise:

So let me get this straight...the guy hits 80 HRs, drives in 192 runs, hits .357...and he still ends up with a smaller OPS than Barry Bonds has this year?! Ironically, Bonds is hitting exactly .357 right now.
Perhaps by the year 2080, baseball will have done away with the intentional walk...

I just did a quick search for him on the "players" report - nevermind the league leaders, this guy doesn't even show up as having played in the majors.
You gotta love it!

Perhaps by the year 2080, baseball will have done away with the intentional walk...Yeah...the fact that as of now Bonds is on pace for over 220 walks definitely helps his OPS. :p

You gotta love it!I *think* the "players" report only shows active players and guys who are on the all-time leader board. We'll know in a few. I'm at the office now. Going to look at the almanacs...

OK...so Albert Kamm wasn't actually a bum, but it made for a good read, didn't it? ;) Plus, considering how little production the Mets actually got out of him, I'd imagine that despite 300 career homers he was nonetheless STILL known as "Dat Bum Dey Drafted Insteada Da Sheriff"

I *think* the "players" report only shows active players and guys who are on the all-time leader board. We'll know in a few. I'm at the office now. Going to look at the almanacs...
Huh. I don't think I knew that, although it makes sense, given the number of players that would have been accummulated in 100 years vs. the list I was looking at. I've switched to Catobase as my primary almanac now, anyway.

Well, NY deserves some of the criticism...seeing as though they traded him to Cleveland in the midst of his first full and solid season. Not only wasn't he as good as the other guy, but they got rid of him just as he was getting good.

Hey, they got burned on Da Sheriff. But that Kamm guy wasn't a bad pick. A 1.000 OPS good-fielding shortstop is a nice luxury. Seems worse than drafting him was trading him without knowing about what they got in return.

The Mets REALLY got screwed on that trade. All three guys were decent-looking prospects (2 or 3 stars) in their early 20's at the time of the trade. However, I skipped forward just 10 years, when they all would have been in their early 30's and in The Show. All three were out of baseball by 2083. Ouch!

Interesting that "Lobster" Rogers was a regular in 2072 and 2073 (winning rookie of the year in 2072 and hitting .320 in 2073), with good, but unspectacular numbers, especially for a first basemen. Still it's somewhat surprising to see that he was demoted to AAA in 2074. What was that, a "wake up call?" It seemed to work, as he started a steady assent upwards in 2075.
Can you tell from the yearly almanac when he was sent down to AAA? I'd be interested to see if he started the year in a slump, got sent down, came back and posted good numbers for the rest of the year, then took off. If so, that's pretty cool. Kinda Ron Gant-like.

On 7/9/74, his plate discipline faded, and on 3/2 he displayed poor strike zone judgement in spring training. Those are the only times he is mentioned in player development or transactions for 2074. Just to be sure, I checked to see if for some reason he was sent down after the season in 2073, but there's nothing there either. Odd. Passing this anomaly on to Markus.

I did a quick and random search through some of the guys on the career leaders board anddidn't find anyone with quite the same minor league quirk as Rogers. However, these three guys spent a small amount of time in the minors in the middle of their careers. A couple of things about them:
1. I'd like to know whether they actually played in the minors when it says they did, of course.
2. Assuming they did, I think I might have an explanation for what happened. IN each of those years, the player was either traded or released, then picked up by another team. It appears that rather than put them straight on the major league roster, they play a few games inthe minors before being called up. That seems awfully unrealistic for guys in the prime of their career. One guy did hit .218 th year before he was traded, but I still think this may be a function of the AI not immediately recognizing newly-signed/traded-for major leaguers and placing them where they should when the transaction first occurs. Maybe this is something that is not new, I don't know. I kinda stumbled upon it.
3. They most worrisome thing I noticed, from the first guy's card linked below (Viny Saenz), is that in 2046, he won the MVP award with Boston. Fine. But on April 17, 2047, he was released! Two days later, he signed with Chicago, who (presumably) assigned him to AAA, where he played 4 games before being called up.
Unless the storyline is... that he was a hold out with Boston after putting up monster numbers in 2046, and when Boston wouldn't renegotiate the 4-year deal he signed in 2045 and couldn't find an adequate trade partner, they released him; then Chicago immediately pounced on him, signing him to a one-year deal; however, Chicago was concerned that he wasn't in baseball shape (having been a holdout and all), so they sent him to the minors first to get a few ABs before debuting with the big club a week later...
If that's not the story (and for some reason I don't think it is :) ), then that's a problem, beyond the minor league AB thing, don't you think?

How was Saenz performing in 2047 before he got released?
In OOTP6, the AI uses ratings, current year stats and the 2 years prior to determine the quality of the player. You can change how these are weighted. The defaults were leading to some really whacky things like this before. This may be the case with Saenz.

So you think he might have gotten off to a .100 start in the first two weeks of the season, and the AI weighed that too heavily?
I use the defaults, except for when I start a new career (since there aren't rpevious year's stats to look at). What do you suggest for those values? I don't have the game here now, but I don't recall the current year stats counting for much more than maybe 30-35%, right? His 2046 season was monster (1.063 OPS, 61 HRs, 168 RBI), but he had a bad year (relatively speaking) in 2045 (.772 OPS, 40 HRs, 109 RBI). Maybe the combo of a bad 2047 start and his 2045 season, combined with a slight drop in ratings (I don't know if that occurred or not, but he was productive for 4 more years, so it couldn't have been that bad a drop) lead to a bad (and very unrealistic) AI decision.

From the little anecdotal evidence I've seen, it appears teams aren't signing guys at the end of their careers to multi-year deals as much as they used to. I see quite a few "signed to minor league contract" entries, where before, guys would suck and continue to get 2-4 year deals, then get released within months of signing, only to have another team fall on the same sword.
But I haven't studied it enough to know whether that perception is real or not.

Yes, that may be true. I know Ben is simming many seasons to see inaccuracies, but in order to be realistic you have to use the monthly weighted changes posted here earlier. I know it's a pain and would slow your simming, but I think that's the key.

Ugh. There's little/no chance that I'd remember to change that every single month. Methinks I'll go with 50, 10, 30, 10. That should be enough of a change from the 40,35,17,8 default to make a difference. How 'bout we get the defaults changed in the next patch? Considering the "recommended" settings from an OOTP6 representative all have 50% as the ratings weight, at the very least that should be changed.

Oh, I see. I thought you meant that there were monthly settings we could put in for the whole year. That is problematic for me, at least when simming a history for my leaguyes, because I sim 50-100 years just to get to a point where I'm ready to play.

yep that a great idea..i wish we can set it for every month one time...
in the meantime if you sim yearly , i will go with what skydog said 50%, 10%,30%,10%.....or do an average what i posted above...set it, and then sim away...

Trading set to low is much better, imo as well.
One thing that really bugs the heck out of me is clicking on a player and having his carrer accomplisments come up instead of his scouting report. We need a toggle so those of us who use little or no ratings, can see the scouting report instead of all the uncessesary clicking.
There is so much about ootp that needs to be documented, I couldn't imagine being new to ootp. Most people probably don't even know that under ERA settings you can change it so the AI values speed or obp when making out lineups. On normal, I hate the way it does it. Now, it seems much better on speedy players setting.

it seems like when u install patch 6.03 the era setting goes back to normal , so if you choose favor OBP or favor speed, etc u wil have to set it again in era setting...
i wish there was a speed/steal combo button than just favor speed.....it seems like the cpu puts a great speed guy , but terrible on steal ability for leadoff sometimes....
so have either favor speed/steal or favor OBP...

My settings stayed when I applied the patch, but I use manage mode, so that may be it?
I've noticed some "different" lineups with both settings, but I like speed at the top.
PLEASE change the player card to show scouting reports first. :)

Just had a 3.5 star starting pitching prospect placed on waivers by Colorado and lost to Texas. I've also been able to snag 2-3 star prospects with ease off waivers. Looks like this could use some more fixing for the next patch/update

Possibly, but I don't know how much stock to put in "star ratings". Plus, you need to look closer at the players and see if maybe they have been around awhile and their stats bon't back the ratings, etc.
The thought also crosses my mind that if some "ok" players didn't hit the WW from time to time then folks would complain about that....just my nickel.

I think the star rating also factors in stats, which doesn't explain why they are being released.

The pitcher is 24 years old and had made 2 starts for the Rockies before going to Texas. His current ratings are 6/10 in Control, Stuff, and Movement. His stuff talent is 8/10 and movement is 10/10. He's not a bad hitter too, with 6/10 talent in contact, eye, and avoiding Ks. The rest of the Rockies rotation is a bunch of 1 star guys, so not rescinding waivers on this guy is almost ridiculous as putting him on waivers in the first place. This should not be happening.

SD
5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 K
5.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
His overall ERA is inflated by a disastrous relief appearance where he gave up 5 ER in 2 IP, but his 2 starts were both solid

A guy with a 5.11 ERA in the early season is a candidate for getting sent down to the minors, and perhaps he was not pulled off of waivers because of that improper evaluation. I am told that 50% of the eval should be ratings, and in the early season, not much at all should be on "this season." I've suggested to Markus to change the defaults in the next patch or update.

Thought I'd jump in and also endorse these settings and the low trade option. Been using them in my solo league and they really do help.
Also wondering bigdawg2003 if you are using scouts? Could be a poor scout is misevaluating the talents of the player in question. I know not as likely now that two teams (pretty good indicator it's the early season current stats evaluation problem) have waived him but something else to look at.
My team scout was just changed. Went from a excellent hitter- legendary pitcher to legendary hitter- excellent pitcher and have seen quite a change in some player evaluations. My legendary hitter scout had my AAA 2b rated at 52 hitting while the excellent said 36 and not quite ready for AAA. So it is possible that it could be part of the cause.

One of the patches greatly increased potential for scout error in young players. That could be a factor here as well.

I'm giving credit when credit is due.
Since the latest patch and the settings posted by jbmagic, ootp v6 is FINALLY playing a great game of ML Baseball. The settings have been a godsend thus far and with trades at LOW, the trades I do see now make ALOT of sense. No big time players or young studs on waivers, etc.
I'm finally having some fun taking the Brewers under my wing and trying to make them contenders. :)
Thanks to all!
(If you've been on the fence about ootp, it's time to buy)

With the patch and settings suggested, I'm having a great time with a fictional league that started from Skydog's league file in another thread. I also recommend buying this game if you are on the fence. I think the waiver wire and Rule 5 draft definitely are working to limit my dynasty building and making roster management more challenging and realistic.

I meant to ask this sooner but got sidetracked - on the issue of Jose "The Sherriff" Gonzalez, is a guy like this that shatters previous upper limits of historical MLB player performance common, not-so-common, rare, extremely rare, never-seen-before?
I admit his career makes me question the OOTP engine a bit - this guy not only passed all previous HR records, he shattered them. His stretch from 2078-2082 is way beyond anything ever accomplished in real MLB history. Sammy Sosa is the only guy to ever post 3 seasons of 60+ HR in a career, and he never topped 66. This guy posts 5 straight seasons of 67+ HR, topped by 80 HR in 2080, and had an additional year at 63 HR a few years later to make 6 seasons of 60+ HR. His HR total of 888 is nearly 18% higher than Hank Aaron's record of 755. Even with the high HR rates in baseball from the late-'80's on, only A-Rod has a realistic shot at approaching 800 HR.
If this guy is a real rarity, something rarely seen in anyone's extended sim-history almanacs, I can live with it. If it's somewhat common though, I'll be disappointed.

Even with the high HR rates in baseball from the late-'80's on, only A-Rod has a realistic shot at approaching 800 HR.I think herein lies the key. I simmed this entire career (100 seasons) with modern-day settings. If there's one guy in 15ish years who has a shot at approaching 800, then it would be reasonable if 6-7 guys in 100 years have a shot at it, correct? As it turns out, he's the only guy in 100 years to top 800 homers, and only three others made it past 700. I'd say that's pretty solid. I really like that the engine creates these rare guys lke this, but keep in mind that they are rare--rare enough that there isn't always even anyone in the league who can put up the big numbers. In the last three seasons of my 6.03 Dynasty, the major league home run leaders have had the following totals:
2021: 47
2022: 46
2023: 51
That's nice to see, along with the likelihood that once every generation or so some stud will come along and hit 55-65 homers a few times. It spices the game up, imho.
Here's a link to the career leader board for the 100-year career: http://www.younglifenorthlake.com/ootp603/cleaders.html

That's somewhat reassuring. Yes, A-Rod has a shot at 800 HR, but this guy got almost 900 HR, and did so with twice as many 60+ HR totals as any other player in MLB history and easily beating Bonds' single season record with 80 HR. A-Rod may end up the career HR leader, but he's never topped 57 HR in a season - if he gets there it will be due to staying healthy and keeping very consistent.
My view is that any performance that goes beyond existing established limits should be exceedingly rare, but I suppose others may not agree.

hi all
are you guys seeing problems in the player salary report for minor league free agents...
on my test i seeing in the salary report , that it shows some minor league players as minor league free agent, but when i proceed to next season there still on my team.....
either the salary report is giving false infomation or the minor league free agent not working...
thanks

yes i look there also...also gives false info there too...
so i not sure if the roster sorted (by all and salary info) and the front office Player Salary report (html) is giving the correct info or the minor league free agent is broken....
try it and proceed to next season and u will see that minor free agent next season that show up on the roster and salary report will not be a free agent..

What if Babe Ruth had played at Coors Field? How about Mickey Mantle in Bank One Ballpark?
If the last 120 years of baseball had been played under the conditions that Sosa and Bonds had played under they would be chasing a number much higher then 755.

If Ruth had played anywhere in Colorado during his career, yeah the record would be probably pushing 800 or more. That said, the guy in SkyDog's simmed dynasty wasn't playing in bandboxes like those.
If the last 120 years of baseball had been played under the conditions that Sosa and Bonds had played under they would be chasing a number much higher then 755.
Hmmm, to the extent that ballparks and bats have changed, I agree. Let's not forget though that there were bandboxes in Ruth's era as well though. Additionally, do you really think that Ruth was in superior physical condition to Bonds or Sosa? At best I think Ruth had equivalent strike zone judgement to Bonds, possibly superior hand:eye coordination, probably inferior physical conditioning. He certainly didn't face the same kind of pitching strategies, with fresh bullpen arms being brought out on a regular basis from the 7th inning on.
