Click on the global options tab at the top of the screen and set your options there.

the qb that you have on your team, the formation you use is based on what the QB knows and that the only formations you can use?

when you have the computer set the game plan, it always includes some formations that your quarterback might not know. When the game is being played, however, the coach will ignore the those and only run formations that your quarterback knows.

why does the formatiosn have to follow what the qb knows and not the coach?
why it going to use the formations that only the qb knows?

Think of it as the young qb not knowing the whole playbook. As the qb ages he will learn new formations in training camp. I believe his intelligence rating is used to determine how
quickly he will learn new formations thus opening up the playcalling for him and making him more valuable.

if you let the computer setup the gameplan, depthchart and formation strategy, does it do a good job?

yes, it does a fine job, probably better than many humans. In fact, in one of the multiplayer leagues a CPU controlled team won the championship.

does fof come with fictional players?
is it always different players names and ratings when creating a new league?

It comes with a standard fictional file. There is an updated file with real players in the reference thread, and there is a utility that creates a fictional universe.

the default player file consists of fictional players, but they are really NFL players disguised with fictionalized names (because FOF doesn't have a license from the NFL players association). Each time you start the game with the default file it begins with those same fictional players. If you want actual NFL players you can use the real player file in the reference thread. If you want to start with different fictional players each time, you can use the fictional player universe generator by HeavyReign in the reference thread.

what year is the real player roster based on?
and does it work on 5.0d because it says "Updated 12/2/2K3 To Match 5.0b Patch***"
what is full x-factor? if you have it on Yes, does that mean player rating will always be different when starting a new league...is it random ratings?

The real player file is based on this season's rosters. You need to go to this link to download the new file:
hxxp://www.cflfb.com/FOF/fof_2004_roster_files.htm
The one that is linked directly from the reference page isn't the most recent one.
The x-factor is a built in mechanism that allows you to start a new career over and over with the same players but not necessarily know how they will develop. This prevents someone from playing for a season or two and seeing that an undrafted free agent becomes a great player and then reloading the game to sign them cheaply. The longer a player has been in the league, the less fluctuation there will be in his ratings. For example, I've never seen Peyton Manning at anything less than 75/75.

Get primelord's change tracker. It helps track player progression/regression and is valuable when you are trying to decide who to keep and who to cut.

if you have the coach do the gameplan, depth chart automatic for you
does a good offense coordinator, defense coordinator, head coach make a differense in calling the plays for you?
Cap Ologist

I think playcalling is done only by the head coach, the coordinators are used for player development.
jbmagic

so if you let coach call the plays, they have affect on calling the plays, setting the depth, doing the gameplan, etc
some are good and some are bad? it depends on the coach rating?
Cap Ologist

you are correct.
