Hmm, for a moment I thought these might be NFL teams, but there are only 31 of them;

Paul, Pat, and Nick - these could all be Saints ?
Native Earthtones - Browns ?
Remember the high-reachers - Titans ?
Fish or mammal - Dolphins ?

Eight categories *could* be the divisions, but that would be 25 for only 8 categories. Maybe there are some baseball teams?

Double trouble - Twins ??

edit: "Native" earthtones could also be Redskins, I guess...maybe more appropriately.

If champion/cherry tree is not Washington the city, maybe it was Washington the Patriot, with the Champion Red Sox. A reach, but don't know if anything else fits.

Also, the Colts are the only other city I can think of that doesn't have a baseball team (if you group Green Bay/Milwaukee - which does make sense for beer/hot dogs - and Boston/New England). So maybe the Colt '45s is pointing to the Colts? Dunno.

Astro as in astronaumical or texans relating to the saying "Everything's big in Texas," but Im not sure how sinkable could work in there...

A few comments:

I left Seattle out because I wanted to throw you off on the number of NFL teams or at least off on the double NY teams, plus it's my home area (wink wink), but that ploy fell away quickly.

Lucy Kinsella = Lucifer Kinsella = Devil Ray

Padres = Fathers instead of brothers? = D'OH!

Colts (almost four dozen horses) was simply a clue that turned out like an attempted ploy. I was thinking of Colt 45 (either the gun or the malt liquor), and not the baseball team. Clever thinking on your end.

"Remember the High Reachers" and "Champion cherry tree choppers" were my favorite misdirection plays, and they worked for awhile. You got them right in the end.

All in all, I was amazed at how quickly some of these were solved. The efforts of cuervo in particular were impressive. It was fun to watch.
