So what I can gather from these posts is that at first it looks like Eagles puts MrBug on the chopping block in front of CW. Of course, I used this logic with Mr. W and it backfired.

Then Hoops semi-accuses CW of being a wolf, but he is not very sure.

Then the most damaging evidence at least for me is MrBug's PM box filling up. Why else would it fill up if he was not PM'ing back and forth with Eagles?

While that is somewhat damning, I find it kind of bordering on the bullshit side of things to use something like that as an in-game piece of evidence. I liken it to people watching user activity to see how often they are PMing. Kinda shitty.

It's getting very quiet in the village with so few of you remaining. Tonight the screams seem to ring out much more clearly than usual, as if you're all in the same room as the victim, Kingfc22. His body is torn to shreds, and he was an innocent villager.

Kingfc22 had the Amulet of Seeing which is now lost!

Heh. We started with the Hammer. RA passed it to me, and a couple nights later...oh look. A mask. Well, this should be fun. :)

We thought we were screwed so many times. Kill our Sorcs right off the bat, digamma bites it...luckily, we had a couple kills the netted us enough cash to get those Books. Bought us just enough time. All we were doing at the end there was desperately trying to scrounge enough cash together to buy more Coats of Arms.

Thank god the public perception for the majority of the latter half was we converted 2 sorcs instead of 1 wolf.

Peregrine, was everything completely random in the game in terms of the original item placements? Having two masks to start off play + crown to a sorceror felt like the deck was a little tilted.

Also, was there an ointment in the game? I used the Dart on Fouts because I didn't want to spend a day talking about whether he was or was not a wolf. Figured that a villager would use the ointment on him and we would have a role reveal early, which would help our cause. Figured that if he was a wolf (thought it was about 40% likely at the time) then there wasn't much chance the wolves would be holding an item that could save him. Obviously that didn't work out ...

Also, looking back on the Schmidty/Eagles vote decision, I went the wrong way on that one. I held it against Schmidty that I saw him in the room not responding, instead of againts Eagles responding with very marginal logic. I really did intend to try and move votes the other way when I got home that night if a bandwagon had emerged and see if people would follow. But there was a traffic accident that delayed me by forty minutes. Not sure how it would have played out - if people would have followed over to Eagles or not, but I would love to have had the opportunity to find out.

Well, we had NO idea the Sorc could start with the crown. We were figuring the absolute most sure fire villager from the gate, both from our perception and from the villagers, was the King. AND we figured you'd have some cash on you.

So, we offed you first. Dammit.

Just lost a long post - damn wireless connection.

I originally screwed up using the Robe to talk to Coffee over the weekend, forgetting I had to activate it. So we swapped one message apiece before Peregrine shut it down. I told Peregrine I would absolutely use the item to talk to Coffee again on Monday to keep this as fair as possible. So the wolves had that knowledge for one day.

Thomkal raised this issue in the Mafia (2) werewolf game - do people think I was unethical in posting PMs? I did ask Peregrine specifically about this before doing so with the Digamma messages after he was lynched. Once that precedent was set, I thought I was OK in doing so with my Coffee conversations as well. I never revealed anything about roles in those messages. I felt like they were fair game since I was using an item to have those conversations. But if the general consensus is that this was shady then I'll avoid doing anything along those lines again.

Yes it was completely random. I knew there were going to be two masks in the game because that's what the last game had and it seemed to work out pretty well. No ointment, though, and the healing potion never got used.

In my opinion the key day was when the ledger results were revealed and Mr Wednesday viewed Eaglesfan with his pendant. I figured the wolves were dead at that point, the villagers could have lynched Eagles that day since he didn't buy the Coat of Arms till that night. Instead they killed MrW and didn't seem to really latch onto the ledger results.

Peregrine

I apologize for my screwups in the game, there were a couple of times where night actions got crossed or missed, it was pretty hard to keep track of all of them.

Also if I run this item game again, I will clarify the rules for the Crown and the Notebook, as they were unnecessarily confusing. I finally figured out how to use the Notebook mid-game, but if I had known originally it might have saved RA's life.

Well played. So you vehemently try to save digamma, a known wolf, then dart a villager who mistakenly hit a mask (even Lathum said he had the mask). Good thing for you that you did kill me, cause I would have campaigned against you for helping the wolves so much.

And starting with two masks, plus all the confusion already in the game, gives the wolves too much of an advantage. I sent a PM early to peregrine asking if the wolves ever lost one of these item games since it was set up nicely for them.

hoopsguy
08-21-2005, 05:00 PM
Fouts, obviously this didn't work out the way I wanted it to. I expected at least one Ointment to be in the game. The Digamma thing went down after I had already cast the dart the night before. If I had known that another accusation would come out that day I would not have used it.

I had also gotten the Notebook that night from Jeff, so I had the option to pass an item with limited information or to use the dart. I used the dart in a way that I thought would help the villagers. Obviously, without the ointment, it did not have the desired result.

I wouldn't say unethical, but against the spirit of the game. I mean the robe or other roles/items that allow for private communication are in the game because they add another layer of intrigue. If I were playing and was talking via the robe, I would have assumed the conversations would remain private because they are after all done through private messaging. If the two people agree to it, I suppose they could post their conversations, but why even bother having the robe then? You could talk just as easily in the thread then. And no one had any proof that those conversations really took place. A devious player/wolf could use that to post false info leading to a lynching of an innocent.

My comments were mostly meant for what happened in the Mafia game when Blade posted a PM Bek sent him joking claiming to be Mafia since they were friends outside the game. Blade posted, Bek was lynched, and he was a villager. I just think that as much as possible, people should stay "in bounds" and comment on things happening in the thread itself and not outside factors or supposedly private conversations.

Sorry if I offended Hoops, just didn't sit right with me at the time, especially when it appeared you didn't have Coffee's permission to post them.

hoopsguy
08-21-2005, 07:33 PM
No offense taken, Thomkal. Just wanted to bring it up for general consumption here, rather than not respond to it.

I certainly can foresee some scenarios where I would be very against the sharing of PMs. Someone who has a turncoat role, where they are privy to the PMs of the bad guys sharing those would be pretty brutal.

I think that wolves fabricating PMs would be very high risk, but potentially bringing some reward. In the case of Bek/Blade I was very surprised he didn't get whacked the next day by the villagers.

Eaglesfan27
08-21-2005, 07:51 PM
Personally, I don't think PM's should be shared. I think the substance of them can be shared (and I would always keep that in mind when sending PM's in this game.) However, I think they should be paraphrased. I know that several Moderators of the games have said not to quote their direct PM's and I don't see why that rule shouldn't extend to the players. Just my 2 cents.

Since the crown is a pretty powerful item, can someone explain a situation where the person with the crown isn't killed by the wolves on the first night?

That's what needs clarification. I think in the future, the Crown would pass to someone else if the King was killed, and that person would become king.

By the way.

Conclusion

For his service to the Wolfen Rights Foundation, and the Society For Better Tasting Human Flesh, the last remaining wolf has decided to keep AE alive long enough to convert him into a wolf himself.

May he enjoy many tasty dishes of Hoopsguy Teriaki, Broiled Vince with Rice, and Creme of Superman With Broccoli.

Not sure, I'm kicking around a few ideas, one of which is a sequel to my River of Darkness game.

Man -- what a game. There were a few points where I was really into it, and completely unsure of what to do.

I wanted so badly for Raiders Army or someone else to slip up the night after I found out he was a wolf -- knowing he had the Coat of Arms, I was extraordinarily reluctant to vote for him/reveal my information. But with the amount of noise I was making (I tend to talk a lot in these games), I figured I might be eaten, and that if I were to die with knowledge that RA was a wolf that the villagers would be up shit creek without a paddle. The combination of it being right before the weekend and a few people (especially Raiders, I think) being away from the computer for long periods of time on Friday really inhibited my chances to 'draw someone out,' I think.

If I play it again from that point forward, I think I'd keep my trap shut, and hope that I don't get killed. I would from then on be locked into the Coat with my Notebook, hoping that RA would pass it to a different Wolf -- though of course, I don't think he'd ever have passed it once he got it. That way, however, I could have tried to figure out who was on his side...

Heh. I wasn't really away from my computer that Friday that much...or the weekend for that matter. I was trying to use that as a cover. I logged in several times to look under the thread under "Guest". I figured my other alias on the board couldn't be used since I told hoopsguy what it was in the last WW game we played together.

Ring of Wisdom – [RoW] The owner of the Ring will get two votes during the lynch. He will get his normal public vote as usual but in addition he will be able to PM the Moderator a secret vote. The Moderator will announce who received the secret vote but not who cast it. Furthermore, once per game, the Ring may be used to call for a special vote to elect a new King. The owner of the Ring will be identified if he calls for such a vote.

I thought whoever had the Ring of Wisdom could've called for the vote for the new King. I was not under the understanding that it couldn't be used if the King were dead. I would have suggested it had I been a villager, but it was better off for us as wolves that there was no King.

The Ring is one of the ways the King can be removed, but since the crown was destroyed, there couldn't be a King, or an election. Normally the king stays the king until he is killed, or someone uses the sword or ring on him.
