I'd go back to the age of 15. Only 3 or 4 things I'd like to change, but wow were they doozies!

I hated high school and I don't think anything I could do would change that. I only need to experience that once.

This could be a good thread ... how far would you go back.
I'd personally go back to say my senior year in high school. Good times.

Seriously, could someone just reset my life back to about 9 years ago when I started college? I think I want to give this a 2nd try. I've been 28 for about 10 days now and so if it's been pretty crappy. Every year, worse and worse and worse. I need a "do over".
Dude you're too young for a mid-life crisis. Just save up your money for your real crisis in 10 years and buy yourself a hot covertible to pick up some young chicks in.

I'd go back to sophomore year in high school. At least I could drive then. High school was a blast for me. I loved it.

If you really think that then try and decide what is wrong with things and work out a series of things which you think are achievable which will make your life more enjoyable.
If it makes you feel better I felt that way when I was around 20 years old - I've left high school with 'reasonable' qualifacations and falled into working as a chef/takeaway manager - but it was pretty much a dead end career and I was bored stiff doing it (was never exactly a 'good' chef - think chopping things up and making basic dishes for market workers, the word 'chef' is probably overdoing it ;) ) ...
Anyway after a bit of thought I went to night school, then eventually (having scraped a few reasonable grades) university and finally having qualified in software engineering onto programming and the games industry (which was my long term aim) ....
While at Uni I met several other people doing 'make-overs' on their lives in similar fashion, including a charming lass of 41 who was on the same course as me ... its never to late to improve your life or make yourself happy imho :D

PS> On the 'what would you change' topic - I wouldn't change anything personally, I've done good and bad in my life, yeah there are things I screwed up right royally ... but they're 'my screw-ups' and they make me who I am - plus you never know if I hadn't made them then maybe I wouldn't have learnt something which helped shape some of the 'good' in my life*.
*Any Red Dwarf fans should recall that the difference in Rimmers life between being a total dweeb and a virtual galactic here was that the hero failed a test in primary school that the dweeb passed .... it made the hero sit up and try harder, which gave him a much better life in the long run.

Mine would be simple. The one thing I kicked myself over. When a good friend (Abby was her name) of mine said,
"Friends can fuck too."
Followed by...
"Are you hitting on me?"
I should have said yes. But what do I say? Makes me sick just thinking of it.

Give me a couple of years - I've arranged for my future self to come back in 2008 and give me certain lottery numbers ... once I've got those I'm sure the future me would be happy to lend out his time travel device ;)

bingo!
My way of seeing it too. A do over would mean different wife, or same wife not same setting thus not same kids and such. I love them too much to think that life without them could happen...

When I have good in my life, I know I'll feel this way too. It's just hard to feel that way when you're at the bottom of the hole looking up.
I think we can all sympathize with that feeling. I know a couple moments where I wished I'd get a do over, you're right about. Good luck with it!

Until you have a kid, the thought of "do overs" is always perched on your left shoulder. Kicking yourself for this and that, wishing you could've done this or that. I had a full scholarship to UVA and pissed it away in year 2 by drinking myself into academic probation.
I beat myself up every month or so for the life I could've had, had I stayed in school and continued with football.
Then, along came my daughter and now the thought of "do-over" is over. I can't imagine my life without her now and in hindsight, it all seems like the shitty stuff happened for a reason.

Well, I scrapped my time machine idea, but I *am* working on the age manipulation device. I'll let ya'll know when that one gets finished.
And in quasi seriousness...will I always wonder what woulda been had I done this, this, this, or that back in the day? Sure. Would bet everyone does. But, aside from the distinct lack of female companionship, things are plenty good enough. Went through some horrid times, have some great memories, but all in all, I am who I am because of both the good and the bad, and wouldn't wanna change that.

"If I knew then what I know now" I would pursue those females who displayed interest in me, to my complete lack of recognition.
In all seriousness sab, I think you should investigate your real worth a little bit. Instead of concentrating on your programming projects when you have time, you could be writing a resume, and scouring the earth for places to send it. Don't worry about having all of the qualifications listed for any one job, if it sounds like something you'd like to do, send it. Writing job openings/descriptions can be as hard as writing resumes/covers. You may find yourself fitting what someone actually wants better than you fit the written posting.
Obviously, there is no guarantee, but you may find that what your parents can afford to pay is less than what someone else might, even with the cost of housing subrtacted. Just because you could not get a job then, does not mean you can't do better this time. If it does not work, you are no worse off, no?

I've been totally on this line recently. I'm 26 and would like a do-over of the last 8 years. Or at least '97-'02 when I was in college. Note to everybody: DO NOT WASTE YOUR LIFE WITH A LIBERAL ARTS MAJOR!!! That is all :(

Sorry to hear about your situation sab. If my 8 extra years of experience on you are worth anything, I'd say this - times of great stress and trial are usually the best ways to really help you focus on what your true priorities are. Also, focus as best you can on identifying within your goals smaller steps that will allow you to identify progress. It can be easy when faced with daunting situations to become overwhelmed at all that you need to do to; by giving yourself identifiable middle steps it allows you to feel some sense of accomplishment as you move forward.
As an aside, I can't say I wasn't surprised to see that a relationship breakup was a catalyst for this. Things will look better soon...

I think thinking more about the past will only make you feel worse. You will feel a lot better to think about what you can do NOW to improve your life. Think about it, you will probably look back again in 10 yeasrs just hoping once again that you could get a second chance and do it over from this point on, so why not do it right starting now and stop hoping for the impossible. Just my 2-cent. And good luck! :)
