This should be an interesting thread over the next couple of days. Nothing funnier to read than an EA game release thread as it goes through the paces.........
Or where one man defends the PS3 and everyone else tears it a new one. :)

Not surprisingly, the impressions on OS are overwhelmingly favorable. The vast majority of people say the 60 FPS on the 360 makes a huge difference from last year in how smooth the controls are. Also, the computer is actually missing FG's now. People are reporting the blocking is much better and player size seems to have more of an effect. Looking forward to trying the demo tonight.

Is there a decent site (or thread at another board) that details exactly what the PS2 version has/doesn't have, and any PS2-specific quirks/bugs? I'm still on the fence about getting this, or whether I should just wait until the fever hits me and start up a new career on 2007.

My Impressions after playing the demo once. I love the graphics, they are much improved from last year. I had both versions last year and the 360 was very choppy and felt clumsy. This year it feels next gen. The QB auto drops and there appears to be a pocket to step into. On one play the DE went inside and the LT stepped out to pick up a blitzing LB or CB. I picked off 2 passes but both were thrown under pressure, and I even threw a pass over the middle that was not knocked down by a MLB.
Release day is 17th right? too bad as i'll be already in holidays else i would preorder it. This will be a good way to be patient, will read impressions and will decide once i get back in August.

I'm interested in hearing your thoughts and WVUFan's (and whoever else) on fumbles in the demo. That seems to be the biggest complaint on OS while others on there are reporting zero fumbles. I'm wondering how much the "cover up" button will prevent fumbles. Less than 4 hours until I get home to try this for myself.

I had one fumble in two games and it was probably a "legit" fumble.

So yeah, just played my first game and I dunno...we'll see how the final version is. This one is a bit buggy (I know it's a demo). Just unpolished in some spots (like having your play selection menu open on top of the instant replay). Also there was slowdown in between plays (like going out of the huddle). The long passing seems really sensitive. I had a guy open a few times and couldn't complete the big one. I lost the game 14-7 when michigan got a pick-6 with no time left. My guy was ready to catch the ball, but the CB stepped in front and grabbed it. I threw 2 picks and recovered one fumble in my first demo game.
Sideline players are running at 30 FPS and looks like barely passable PS2 graphics. No commentators really changes the feel of a game. Guys look really funny when they're out of breath, they look like they're struggling to breathe big-time.

I'm glad to hear that the long passing game is much more challenging with QB's being inaccurate which is a great thing in my opinion. As far as the commentary, I'm sure you know this, but it was left out only for the demo to decrease the size of the download. Hopefully, the other issues are cleaned up for release.

Played again and USC crushed michigan 18-0. I can still see the long-FG issue from before. michigan's K just missed a 57-yarder. I mean, barely. My kicker nailed a 47-yarder that was just inside the upright but had distance to spare.
No game stats/user instant replay is a bummer.
There are definite frame-rate issues when the play is not going on. Every time I call a play and my team breaks the huddle, there's about a 1-second delay when the game freezes. This hopefully is fixed in the real game.
Secondary seems improved overall, even though my CB did the classic break-your-coverage-to-jump-and-miss-tipping-a-pass-which-leads-to-a-TD in the first game. They seem to react better overall. A lot of batted balls (including getting batted multiple times).
My running game just crushed the AI. I just used the sprint/stiff arm tackles and ran it right up the gut for solid gains. I think my RB's averaged like 8 YPC. I know it's probably on varsity level.
I've had one punt return and my four blockers stopped 1 guy and let another one through to tackle me after a 2 yard return.

I've played 3 games so far, the first I did a normal combination of run/pass, and it was very hard to complete a long pass (I was Michigan). The DB's are quite a bit smarter in this version as the last one. I had a fumble on the kickoff which the booth reviewed and it was overturned. I won 21-14, when I intercepted a really, really bad pass (Booty got nailed as he hit it, and the ball was really off).
The second game I ran nearly exclusively. Fumbled 5 times, and lost 21-3. Hart had a tendency to fumble, especially when he got gang tackled.
Pros:
-- The game runs much, MUCH smoother and faster. As others have said, you can really tell this is 60 fps, as the game runs better.
-- I like the camera angles on the challenges.
-- The secondary AI is dramatically improved.
-- Others say differently, but I think the graphics are better. No, there's no helmet reflections, but things are brighter and shadows (unlike last year's version) are correct.
-- Gang tackles are in the game. This is a good and bad thing for me, but I do like the increased variety of tackles as opposed to last year.
-- Line blocking is much better. You can see the pocket, and lineman sliding down for blocks. On runs, there's a nice bit of downfield blocking, so the lineman don't just stop on initial hits.
-- I didn't see "jump the snap" on the demo. The Y button is now back to secondary audibles. This may just be a demo thing, though.
Cons:
-- There is an issue with fumbles, but it might be due to this being a demo. Interceptions seem to be right on par, especially if you throw into coverage like I did a few times.
-- I do not like the new playcalling screen. It gives you only 4 plays per screen to choose from, and on a standard TV it's very hard to see details on the plays. May be just my TV, though.
-- This is more than likely a demo issue, but the after-play celebration animations are buggy as all hell, and not apt in every situation. (Hart gets a 2 yard gain, and celebrates like he just scored a TD)
-- The game has a much more arcady-ish feel than any version I've played before, even current-gen.
-- Entirely too many broken tackles.
Hope this is helpful. Overall, this is a much better experience than last year, but there are some bugs that might need to be worked out.

FWIW, a guy at OS is "confirmed" to have an early release copy and is answering questions. He reports that in a regular length game there was only 1 fumble. I played about 3 quarters before work this morning. I forced one fumble. I was a LB and sacked the QB. I blocked the 1 FG attempt against me. Gang tackling is finally part of EA which is very nice and much needed. I thought the gang tackling looked realistic.
One thing I did not like was the CPU threw a pass to the TE. He was wide open and running and out to the sidelines. Seemed to get stuck in an animation and went out of bounds. I thought this was fixed.

TroyF
07-10-2007, 07:26 PM
Just played a quick game as Michigan.
My first play was a counter and Hart ran for 75 yards and a TD. Had a sack and fumble that was overturned on a replay. Long passes aren't tougher, they are damned near impossible. Everything I throw is a bullet. Either it's a bug or I'm doing something wrong.
Two fumbles in the game. One was on a kickoff return. (USC fumbled, I recovered) The other was late in the game while I was nursing a lead. Hart slammed into the middle of the line and lost the ball. I recovered that one too, but wasn't real happy with Mr. Hart. (I wasn't covering it up, probably my fault)
Plusses -
--- In the middle of a play the gameplay is smooth.
--- I like the graphics this year. Brighter colors, less worry about reflections all over the place.
--- USC kicker missed 2 kicks against me
--- seems like the game is taking snapshots of huge plays throughout the game. I wonder if there will be some sort of a photo album after a game or what that is all about.
Minuses
--- Lag between plays is a bit annoying
--- I HATE the new play calling screen. I mean hate it. Seeing four plays at a time is ridiculous. EA took a major step back here IMHO. Not a dealbreaker, but it could have been so much better.
--- Still seeing the MLB knock down to many passes. (both sides)
--- Did I mention how much I hate the play calling screen?

I loved last year's game despite the occasionally poor collision detection and DB AI. After playing the new demo, I'm thinking of cancelling my preorder. Some of these have been mentioned, but here are my thoughts:
Pros
- Obviously the frame rate is huge.
- Tackling all-around is better -- gang-tackles and regular. I liked the additional broken tackles because it always seemed like someone was there to finish off the play.
- DB AI seems improved and collision detection didn't seem to be an issue during plays.
Cons
- In my first game Michigan started the first 3 drives with picks. Turnovers on both sides are out of control but maybe that is just a demo issue.
- The playcalling screen is horrid. Not only do you have to scroll side to side to change formations, but you can no longer use the bumpers to quick-flip which means 2 or 3 button presses just to get to a new page.
- While gang-tackles are cool, they are mainly just clean up work, ie the defender is trying for an extra yard and you come in to knock him back.
- The ball physics on incompletions seemed weird. The ball was pinballing around receivers' hands and making loud thud sounds. This might have been in last year's game and I just didn't notice it as much.
- I'm seeing a lot of slowdown between plays when the screen transitions.
Some other frustrating notes on my first game (which I won 16-14) besides the 3 initial picks were:
Opening kickoff returned against me after running through a pile of 4 guys.
On one of my PATs the ball went through my holder, and the play was called dead.
I'm pretty disappointed as I was really looking forward to this game, but I'm hoping that this was a really early build used in the demo.

jb,
I'm not sure there are a lot of "bugs" in the demo. The only real one that's bothering me is the passing and that is even something that can usually be fixed with slider tweaks.
The demo to me was just ok. Not great, not horrific. Blah. OK.
If the full game comes out like that, I'll probably be OK. There isn't any other NCAA game to turn to and I'm sure I'll get my 60 bucks worth out of it. If it comes with more bugs, then it could be a dealbreaker. We'll just have to see.

I don't think the play calling screen is that bad. I think it's better than the old style (not last year's next-gen system which I didn't get much of a chance to get used to).
The demo was "meh". Not that much better than last year's, but like others said, it's Varsity difficulty level with default sliders. The gameplay is actually better than I'd expect with those settings. I'm confident we'll get a pretty good football game on higher dif. levels and slider changes.
Wasn't looking for too much in this demo. Just to make sure the collision detection was fixed (seems to be), and that the controls were smoother (seems to be). The stutters between plays are annoying, but nothing that will keep me from buying the game.

After playing a few more games, I'm getting a much better feel for passing. Even completed a few deep balls. In one terrific game I drove down the field in the fourth and hit my TE with a perfect crossing route. He broke one tackle and took it 26 yards for a TD.
A couple of keys that I've found to passing:
1) Let the AI drop your QB back. Just concentrate on the receivers from the snap to a two count or so. If it isn't out by 2 or 3 at the most, you'd better look at the line and get prepared to make something happen.
2) If you do scramble, make sure you set the QB's feet. I haven't completed a single ball on the run. I think they may have overcorrected the issue of QB's being able to throw accurately on the run. Could just be the setting of the two QB's though. (both are much better pocket passers IRL)
3) If the MLB or the safety has his back to you, you can get it over their head for a completion a decent amount of the time. If they are facing you when you throw the ball? You are screwed.
Overall, the more I played it tonight, the more I enjoyed it. That's always a good sign. (until day 3 when I scream in frustration at some asinine bug they let pass anyway)

Just played my first game - seemed like '07 Next-Gen for me, only better. I use the call play screen differently, as I don't use it by formation (by type of play), so it really didn't affect me. I was Michigan and we defeated USC, 9-0. Each team threw a pick (mine was horrible, I panic in the pocket - ha). I was barely able to run the ball, but running's not my strong suit. I like the game a lot, but I'm not a hardcore player like a lot of others. Defnitely liked it and can't wait to see the added depth in the retail version.
Oh, and unlike others, the slight hitch when players head to the line of scrimmage didn't bother me a bit. I had to remind myself to look for it, in fact. If it were to happen in the middle of the play, that would be a problem, but it doesn't happen then.
The pics the game takes of your last play are a good idea but poorly implemented. I'd say about 20% of the pix it takes are relevant. Oh, and to the person who said replays are hard to see because of the play calling overlap - man, you should have seen it last year. Replays were in a TINY window under the play calling screen - ha!

Anyone who sees it on a 360 and sees how it is running at 60 FPS is going to be disappointed when they go back and play it on their PS3 and see it running at 30. All of the previewers have said that the 60 FPS makes a huge difference. Heck, guys on here have said that. I'm telling you, there is a MAJOR difference in gameplay. Maybe someone who doesn't know any better won't be bothered. But someone who has seen and played the game the way it looks on the 360 is going to have a difficult time stomaching 1/2 the frame rate.

Graphics running at 30 or 60 FPS have never been the issue with EA games. They've always looked nice. They've just had the problem that unbelievably stupid bugs continue to appear each and every year. Getting excited over a demo in a EA game is never a good idea. Consider that the demo is a paired-down version of the game. If it's having technical issues without some features in the demo version, well......we'll just see. :)

1) We get it. We know EA games have other issues than frame rates. That's obvious.
2) The frame rates make a difference. I'm not sure why that's hard to comprehend. We knew it would make a difference even before the release and after playing the demo, there is a noticeable difference to me and many others who have played it. That's an issue for a PS3 owner. Forget all of the other issues with the game, the game at 1/2 the framerate of the other system is an issue if you own a PS3. Especially if you have a friend who has a 360 and you play both versions. I'm not sure how noticeable it is to other people, but I htink the drop is signifigant.

Good deal. Sounds like we're on the same page them. I don't care about the frame rate if the game still has flaws. There were several posts earlier in this thread mentioning that EA would get their money even if the games were so-so simply because there is no other option for college football. I don't buy that logic at all. They have to put out a game that actually is worth my $60 before I actually spend it.
Point me to the last EA sports game thread where the impressions actually improved over the course of time. It's been quite awhile. Until it happens again, count me as sceptical.

Two schools of thought and both are equally right:
1) I'm not paying $60 for a buggy game that should be better. Screw (insert gamemaker here), I'm not buying their garbage.
I've taken this opinion with older versions of OOTP. (although I'm really enjoying 7) There isn't anything wrong with this opinion. I can see why people have it and have had it myself in the past.
2) OK, the game is buggy in parts, but with slider tweaks it's playable. I still have fun playing it and it is the only option out there. At the end of the day, I'll get my $60 worth of gameplay out of it, even if I wish it could be better.
I think this is the attitude most people take with an NCAA/Madden game. Simply put, there is no alternative for a graphical dynasty game. It's Madden and NCAA. There have been years the game has been a complete and total disaster. But most years EA gets it good enough to make it enjoyable for all but the die hard sports gamers.
I know I'll be frustrated by something in the game within a week of purchase. I also know I'll play the game 25-35 hours at a minimum, have some online games with friends and get more than enough enjoyment out of the overall game to make it worth my money.
If a gamer gets that, there is nothing wrong with it. I believe Mizzou plays ESPN 2K7 baseball on the 360. That thing is damned near unplayable for me but he was able to overlook the flaws and get his money worth out of it. Good for him. And good for us who will get it out of NCAA.

Too Many.
Hopefully its a lower level thing because there is no fumble sliders to adjust.

Honestly, it could be buggy as hell and I'll still play a 5 year dynasty at the minimum with Rutgers. I don't crave the perfect realism that I used to when I was younger, probably because I'm happy enough to be just relaxing in front of the TV with a video game instead of working or doing something else that's stressful. My $60 will be well-spent for these reasons. Hell, I'm working in NYC this week and I'll easily spend $60 on morning coffee, lunch, and afternoon coffee.
edit: That's not to say that people don't have the right to be mad or choose to not spend their money on a game for a "roster update" or if the little annoying bugs are enough to turn you off. Personally, I can deal with all bugs short of "I step back to pass and the ball magically shifts into the hands of a defender."

While the game isn't perfect, some of the crap you hear on the other boards is hilarious. Totally agree with this. I really wish the developers would use relatively minimal textures/polygons on the crowd and sidelines so that the on-field play was the best it could be and was the focus of the game's processing power. I'll take a terrible crowd look and great on-field gameplay anyday.

I guess we'll just need to use the cover button this year. I know that the real Mike Hart never loses a fumble, but that's got to be because he works extra hard to hold on to the football. I suppose this is EA's way of making us work a little harder to hold the ball. I haven't played the demo, but I hope it turns out to be OK.
Now, it would be pretty bizarre if, in the full game, only Mike Hart fumbled the ball too much. Imagine if all the other running backs were fine. That would be a legendary blunder by EA Sports. :D

I like how the QBs will pull the ball back if there is a lot of pressure. In years past you could wait until the last possible second to throw.

i played 2 games. i only had one fumble with Michigan, and it was a realistic scenario for the ball to have been fumbled (running into a crowd of defenders rather than away from it). i had a lot of INTS though, but i'll chalk it up to the difficulty level not being high enough. the game played nice though, should be lots of fun. playbook over the instant replay is stupid and i agree the AI takes snapshots/pics of some non-interesting things.

It's weird, because NCAA 07 was unplayable for me because of the 30 fps and lack of control I felt, but NHL 07 at 30 fps, although still has some lack of control issues, is fine as far as gameplay is concerned. (although NHL 2k7 is MUCH better control wise at 60 fps.
Played the demo and the control is back! It's going to be interesting to read reviews of the 360 version vs the ps3 version.
I hated the playcalling screen at first, but I'm liking it more and more now as I get used to it. Haven't seen many fumbles yet.. passing seems great imho - too many times college qb's seem like NFL qb's in NCAA, not this time. Short passes are the way to go with an occasional bomb thrown in.
I think the game is on varsity, so I'm interested to see how the AI plays on higher levels. With the gameplay and new recruiting, I think I'll be happy this year. (it is annoying to see slowdowns at times.. it doesn't affect the game, but I'm not sure why we are still seeing slowdowns in next gen games.. maybe when they put the games on HD in the future, those will go away?)
Feels like college... plays like college and the control is like night and day vs last years game.

Stupid EA has disappointed me with every football game for years, and I may be a sucker and buy this one because of all of the improvements. Could I just enjoy myself playing various forms of the Campus Legend mode? Or trying to build a monster out of a crappy team? I wanna be Ohio State but I think the way NCAA Football has been in the past won't allow me to do a dynasty with them, but we'll see.

I downloaded the demo and played through most of the first quarter (the quarters are only two minutes long in the demo). On my first carry with Mike Hart, I fumbled, and USC returned it for a touchdown. On the next possession, my QB - Chad Henne, I guess - got sacked and fumbled, but he recovered it himself. I don't think I'd ever seen a player recover his own fumble in one of these video games before, so that was cool.
Anyway, I'm not alarmed about the fumble from Hart, but I've got to admit that I was surprised.

After hearing about all the fumbles people were having with Mike Hart I decided to do a bit of research.
In his career, Hart has rushed for 3,679 yards, which ranks sixth in school history. His 27 career rushing touchdowns are ninth-best in Michigan annals. Hart has lost a fumble only one time, against Iowa on September 25, 2004, in 750 collegiate carries.
Glad they added realism to this one.

I've been keeping an eye out as I know you are interested, but I've seen very little info. Most people say it is 2007.5 with few changes. The biggest changes appear to be auto motion, a new QB evade move, and it seems the recruiting has changed to using hours, but is not significantly different from last year.

From Operation Sports.
First Impression thread who has the retail game already.
Stats look pretty good to me:
No QB went over 4,000 yards. QB with most TD passes (Chad Henne) was 43 but he had 11 INTs. NO QBs had 2 or 3 INTs for an entire season. Every top QB had at least 7 INTs. QB ratings look much more realistic.
McFadden went over 2,000 yards rushing but next highest RB had 1,700 yards. There were some ridiculous ypc averages for the top RBs....like 8 ypc.
Top WR had 1600 yards and 16 TDs. YPC were much mroe realistic than last year. No 20 ypc WRs.
Top OL had 34 pancake blocks but I didn't play any of the games so I can't speak to whether the insane pancake blocks for user teams will show up or not.
One thing that bothered me was tackles. Maybe it was because they sim 5:00 quarters because the leading tackler in the country had 90 tackles.
Player with the most INTs had 9. Again INTs may go up when the user is playing.

Many more impressions on OS as about a half dozen people have the game over there now. Most of them sound very good. A few of my favorites that have been mentioned by multiple people: Jump balls are much more realistic. Trick formations make good use of automotion. Also, bad CPU kickers are missing even intermediate kicks wide. The game is saving all of the plays to review at the end - at least on 5 minute quarters you can go back to any play in the game and review it from 8 different angles. Also, multiple people have confirmed the delay that was in the demo with the play calling screen is gone.

Dola -
Forgot my favorite 2 impressions: The CPU will punt from the 35 if it is 4th and long and they have a weak FG kicker. Also, the CPU reportedly seems to be running a good hurry up offense when they are behind and time is running low with more passing towards the sidelines.

I'd still play College Hoops 2k7, but it would be much less if this game turns out as well as it sounds like it might. Unless there are major advancements in College Hoops 2k8, I'm going to skip it and just continue my 07 dynasty.

OK so after spending an hour putting in Ohio State's roster I fired up a game. (editing takes longer it seems). Here are a few impressions from my OSU-MICH game:
- Graphics are alot better and the games moves really smooth(as if that says anything)
- To see play art before the snap, you hold right trigger and flick the right stick up(sort of annoying)
- Plays will auto-motion receivers and backs before the snap
- I fumbled(and lost) the ball twice and threw 4 picks, I feel like I have to relearn how to play offensively.
- Running is fun but I hope the fumbles were a fluke, I don't want to have to remember to press the protect ball button everytime I run. Also I couldn't switch hands when running down the sideline.
- Chad Henne killed me, Maybe AA level was a little optimistic.
-No sacks from 10 yards away that I could tell(and I was sacked about 5 times)
- Only 1 pass interference was called all game and that was legit when I picked it off and ran it back.
One Play stood out in particular for me: Henne threw into the endzone and the reciever jumped up and had it at the peak. I hit sticked him low and the guy flipped(looked like I broke his neck). First time I actually jumped out of my seat for a video game hit in a long time. That was nice.
I played 1 dynasty game, againts FCS Midwest, and won 70-0. Best thing about that was I started simming when I was up 30-0 in the 2Q. The computer subbed in all of my backups without me telling it to(I was really worried about this)

To touch on the recruiting, u select 35 guys by searching or the old method to your target list. I'm sure it was the sheer # of recruits, but it seemed a little slow. I always got into a rythm in recruiting in older versions but this seemed like an awful lot of work. You can select Recruiting assistance, offer assistance, and visit assistance(i think that was the third). It alows you to create a prospect before preseason recruiting initially if thats your thing.
If anyone has specific Q's on gameplay please ask, I am going from memory and I was drinking heavily.

I am going to go ahead and buy the the 360 for this game and then get All Pro 2k8 in a month or so.
Does anyone have any recommendations on where I should buy it? I do not plan on buying an extended warranty from the store so that doesn't have to play into it. Since I am going to be dropping over $450 for the 360 and NCAA is there a store that would bundle it with a free year of Xbox Live or something along those lines?

A few of my favorite tidbits from it that immediately come to mind:
- A guy was dominating with his HB (I forget which one) and was running well with him as well as throwing little screens to him. The computer started putting 8 and 9 men in the box in obvious running situations and started double teaming him when he was spread out wide.
- When the computer has a lead, it is actually running down the play clock earlier than ever.
- People are getting decent results on All American with default sliders! They are getting very good results with just a few minor slider tweaks The only one that is routinely being adjusted is interceptions are being turned way down (which is one of flaws that remains.) However, with interception slider at 15, people are saying it is much better.
- The computer is actually sticking with the run if it is working and has run 40-50 times for a few hundred yards against one guy.
- Simmed stats look great. One other guy posted and besides the one's jb copied, there were ones in which rushing QB stats looked good, passing stats looked great, and defensive stats looked very solid.
- Some of the stories about mid air collisions sound amazing. One guy was running down the sideline with his FB and accidently hit the hurdle button and was nailed by a DB who flipped him over, but the FB had the presence of mind to reach out with his hand and put the ball inside the pylon for the TD.
- Players are slipping in rain and snow and people say that fatigue really seems well done, particularly in inclimate conditions.
- The biggest common complaint is too many interceptions which appears to be fixable with sliders, alternate uniforms which I frankly don't care about, and the lack of class editing which I also don't care about as starting rosters don't need to be perfect for me.
Oh yeah, the fake punt run play actually worked for someone for a 1st down. That play never worked in the past.
- Also, the Florida playbook sounds like it is quite fun to run as well as a few of the other more imaginative teams. Among many other interesting plays there is a WR option pass play.

Not to nitpick, but this is something that has always bothered me. They know they get eligibility wrong, it's a foregone conclusion every year...why not just let us fix it? A couple years back I had to create an alternate Brian Leonard just so I could play with him for the right number of years.

Man.... I can't wait for Tuesday...
Me neither. A few of the other things that I forgot to put in the other post but have been excited to read:
- With 6 minute quarters on AA, guys are ending up with 10-7, 14-7 type games and even a few 6-3 games in the snow (which most people don't like as the snow is overdone and makes it impossible to see the sidelines.)
- 3rd and long is hard to convert and long passing is really difficult. Even on short and intermediate passes, QB's with lower accuracy ratings are missing guys in all directions. Finally, QB's aren't perfect with their throws.
- On AA with mild slider tweaks, experienced players are getting beat by the CPU. One guy just had Colt Brennan complete almost 70% against him and shred his defense for over 300 yards.

Thanks. Do you know whether the PS2 will have the in-game sim option? If the other changes aren't a big deal and they haven't screwed up the 2007 gameplay, I may get it just for the sim option. If not, I may just pass and play the 2007 version this year.
That's basically my situation. IMO, the supersim feature is the biggest change they've made, ever. This is the first time in 4 years that I haven't pre-ordered. My favourite online store (Tronixweb) has discontinued the Xbox section, and I'd have to pay 55 € (75 $) on videogamesplus.ca to buy a game that costs 39.95 $ (29 €) in the US. I'm sorry, but it just doesn't feel right. Although I'm an NCAA Football nuts, I'm gonna hold off for now, and hear some impressions.
Obviously, if I get a PS3 (no imports on 360, even modded ones), I'd get NCAA 08 right away. But that's not gonna happen soon.

I know quite a few people (myself included with the demo) who were/are having trouble throwing lob passes. According to the EA community rep's posts on OS, the producers have taken out lead passing. Now, you have to tap the button and press up on the L stick to throw a lob pass instead of a bullet.

She was confused and put me on hold to go check. Came back and said they just got the shipment in, and since I received my Pick-up notice they would have it ready for me first thing tomorrow Morning.....only saving 2 Days, but I have a whole Day to play....woohoo!

I think once I get the buttons down on this game it is going to be a lot of fun. Just played about a 2 quarters of a Georgia v Georgia Tech game. The CPU was able to string together a couple of nice 8+ play drives using a good mix of run and pass.
I am really digging the player interaction and the gang tackling. As a whole this is leaps and bounds above anything on the older consoles.

I'm working out of town this week and staying at a relatives house. I was just going to hold out on the game until Thursday night, but I think I am going to have to bring the 360 down there with me and hope I can get the game at the Wal-Mart on Tuesday morning. The town is 6,500 people and I think Wal-Mart may be the only place to buy games unless Movie Gallery sells them.

Some impressions from the PS2 thread:
not much different. more fluid gang tackling, not to the extent of the next gens though.
the few screens I've run actually have linemen who block defenders which is nice.
can;t change control layout back to 06 like last year, which is taking some getting used to.
"motivation" is a new thing that increases attributes to groups on the team. but the impact players don't seem to change.
I haven't gone back to look at 07 but the rosters only have room for 70 players i thought it was 75 last year. not sure.
playbooks are basically the same. there are plays with automatic motion which is a nice touch leading to some WR sweeps off of the snap and such.

Are the recruiting upgrades in this version, or is that a next-gen thing?
</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
appears the same as next gen, dont hold me to that. but there is preseason recruiting, player promises, medical redshirts, summer training. I'll get into it once i finish my first dynasty year.
and i stand corrected about the in game impact players. I made a sack with a DT and the next play he appeared with a pulsing ring. the impact players now have stars but it was still different than normal.

I've looked at that thread for the past couple days and I've yet to see anything significant. Mind you, if that PAT bug, where the guy snaps it off the screen occurs frequently, that would blow. But I can't imagine it happens too often (despite the last poster) because all these other people have yet to mention it.
Btw, got my call from Gamestop that they're opening at midnight on Tuesday. I just can't do that - I'll pick it up the following morning :).

Some glitches/bugs being reported on the 360 so far.
1) Bad glitch I was going for an extra point to tie the game 17-17 but the center turned sideways and the ball was snapped 20 yards back, and the announcers said "incomplete pass" I was like WTF I am going for an extra point. Next thing you know I am kicking the ball off down 1 point 17-16 I lose the game.
2)Was playing a game in dynasty and got roughing the kicker called on me in OT. The game did a kickoff... Then just gave me the ball on 25.. Weird.
3)End of half CPU AI has me scratching my head right now. CPU completed a long pass to my 15 yard line for a first down and had a second left. Since the clock stopped due to a first down, they should have had plenty of time to call a timeout to set up for a field goal, they had two timeouts. Nope, they simply let the clock run out.
4)I seen the extra point bug yet again OMG this is occuring way more then I would like. Going for an extra point and the holder turns to his side and the ball gets snapped 20 yards back no one is there to get it, then the announcer says incomplete pass next thing you know I am kicking off and dont even get to attempt the PAT! OH NO
Happened on my very first game, and now its has happened on my 2nd!

keep in mind EA is designing this game for die hards and casual fans both. so they have to consider the cost to focus on something only 50% of their buying customers will care about and the other 50% won't even notice.

your best bet is to experience the game for yourself and not read anything over at Operation Sports. did they detail the situations? maybe they were picking the right defense and the AI rightfully didn't attempt anything downfield. if it's not there, don't force it (words Rex Grossman should live by). also, were they playing teams that had weak QBs/WRs? maybe downfield plays weren't a featured part of the team's gameplan. i don't think you'd see Nebraska throwing bombs all game, if that's what you're looking for.
the people at OS are too nitpicky, and they're gonna spend their $60 on the game trying to be the 1st one to catch minor bug X than just enjoy their youth. at least i hope these are younger people doing this and not people with wives and mortgages.

The only "bug" I've heard of that bugs me a little is the whole extra point thing. Other than that, it sounds like stuff that a person is going to have to really look for and at that, they're only nusiance bugs. The extra point one will be the only one that really ticks me off if it happens a lot. If it's their way to make sure missed extra points are in the game, there would have been other ways to do that.

Most (if not all) people who have it pre-ordered at a Gamestop doing a midnight sale received a call yesterday saying to be there today around 11:00 PM. Of course, it doesn't hurt to call and ask.
I'm very tempted to go tonight, but I just don't see the point. A few years ago I could work reasonably well with only 2 or 3 hours of sleep, but now I'm noticing that I'm bad at my job if I don't get at least 4-6 which would leave me little time to play if I picked it up tonight.

In a way, I almost feel bad about wanting to go to GameStop for the midnight release. As I mentioned, my wife goes out of town tomorrow, so tonight is really the last chance she'll get to see me before she goes. I leave for work in the morning before she's out of bed, so she won't even see me in the morning. I mean, she's usually just watching TV in bed by midnight, but I'll be up playing the game for maybe an hour or so, and then I'll go to bed and she might be asleep. The last time she might really get to see me before her trip is when I leave the house to go to GameStop, so I almost feel bad.
