Why is there not a FOFC csfbl league. It's like a Hattrick-Lite, but it's baseball.

Nice and free, and they claim it will be free forever.

Seems the hardest part is finding a decent league with good participation, but we should be able to put together 24 people who will participate.

Just playing for a short time - the player development curves seem very good. The financial end is a tad weak, but it's still pretty fun.

If there is any interest it only takes a second to put together a new league.

Oh yeah, the website csfbl.com

You know I signed up for a team and never did anything about it. I think an FOFC league would be fun. I just don't know if I have the time. But if it gets close to a full league count me in.

Against my better judgement (I probably have too many online teams as it is) I signed up.

Please welcome the Seattle Grand Salamis.

A few gripes already:

- I wish the lineup changes had the javascipt drop-down selections like the pitching roles;

- It's awfully tough at first to get a read on the quality level of your players with the number system - having to look at all the categories and make a judgement will take some time. Too bad there's no general "hitting" or "pitching" ratings that take all the subcategories into consideration;

- I'm not looking forward to having to select lefty/righty lineups 8 times a day for each game - does anyone know how/if the game does default substitutions for injured/fatigued players?

I do like the fact there's a minor league system and the element of finances. I also like that Jim Lynch's team doesn't have an automatic huge advantage in this area like his favorite MLB team...;)

It's autorests, but looking at stats from other leagues - it doesn't happen often, almost every player plays 158 games a year.

The finance part is actually kind of interesting - the game just resigns the players that want to stay, and the ones that don't just leave. I like that.

My gripe would be it would be nice to have a smaller league then 24 teams, and it looks like the games are all played in Coors in most the leagues, and ERA of 5.00 isn't so bad.

Don't worry Yankee haters - George is doing his best to recreate the down years. I keep waiting for Jack Clark to show up in camp.

Also, does the creator of the league have to activate it? If not, when in the world will it happen?

vex
03-03-2003, 10:51 PM
Yeah, I'm just wondering when it will be activated.

As for my other question:

New Owner - How do you place a claim for a player on the free agent list?

12 Posts Posted - 01/29/2003 : 06:12:35
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
during the postseason period, claiming free agents is disabled.

when enabled, there is a little blue box with a white "C" in it to the left of the player's name. click this blue box and you will get an edit window for making an offer.

Radii
03-03-2003, 10:51 PM
I don't think we can sign free agents yet, I tried to figure that out as well. The schedule hasn't been posted yet so either the league creator has to activate the league somehow or we're just still waiting.

Here's something else:

http://www.csfbl.com/trades.asp

Trades aren't supported. It mentions some leagues allows 'trades' to occur where the teams involved drop players into free agency and the teams involved in the trade can pick them up. It's on the honor system and if someone decides to be a jackass and pick up a player who is supposed to be traded that way, no one can/will do anything about it.

So the question is, do we want to support trades like this, on the honor system?

vex
03-03-2003, 10:54 PM
I would like to have trades, but the hard part would be having everyone know that that player on Free Agency is a part of a trade.

vex
03-03-2003, 11:00 PM
As for the activation part, it's not completely explained, but here was someones answer:

How long does it take after the league fills to become active? Then after that how long til we begin games?

The league becomes active shortly after it is full. After it is full how soon you start to play games depends on the frequency of games per day of your league, for the exact time remaining to your first game just go to your league link from your team menu and it will tell you the hours remaining.

Taur
03-04-2003, 01:12 AM
The league is on a countdown now.

Using the league message board and playing on your honor would allow trades of players and draft picks.

lynchjm24
03-04-2003, 11:12 AM
I believe you email trades and it takes about 3 days for them to post them manually.

Site says 40 hours til the games begin.

There are a few free agents now: It took some searching, but free agents pick a team based on: Your bid, your overall team salary - the lower the more likely they feel they would get more money in the future and the competition at their positions.

Radii

bbor
03-05-2003, 10:48 PM
3.9 mil....but i really needhim...my ss is 35 and a POS

Now my problem is...that the game put him in the low minors...do i keep him there?...or do i play him...He IS only 20.

Any insight?

Radii
03-05-2003, 10:53 PM
I was planning on playing him right away if I got him, he looks really talented. I have no insight though on what impact playing someone so young might have on him.

My lack of knoweldge on things led me to be afraid of bumping up his price too much. I was afraid if I dump $10 million into a couple of free agents, my spending on the minors and player improvement would drop so much that I'll be screwed long term because of it, so I pretty much gave up on the SS and hope to land the 3B that's out there now.

I'm inordinately excited about this league :) It looks like it has the potential to be a ton of fun if there is enough to do to keep people interested.

03-05-2003, 10:56 PM
Me too..i hope the engine is good.....i plan on being in the basement for a long long time:)

I wonder if those 2 big FAs will ever sign. I don't know if I would. The 3B is at 8 million per year and the LF is at 10 million. they are increasing their own salaries by about a million per day of holdout.

Looking at other established leagues it looks like the front runners are spending around 45million on salary alone.

I forget precisely which page it was, I think it's the "manager" link. You set a fatigue level at which a player will automatically sit and his backup will come in. For the couple of players that this mattered, I had a backup in the same position who would sub in. Once the starter rests (usually takes just one game), he goes back in.

Most lineup micromanagement happens when you want to have a four-man pitching rotation. You have to keep tweaking the lineup to keep that fifth starter from playing. This tends to happen more often during the playoffs.

Only 80 players in the draft? so 3 rounds and then 5 or 6 crappy free agents I guess. It's going to take awhile to 'rebuild' a team with a 3 round draft.

However, the number of players on that list that could start for my team now is stunning. Everyone in the first round probably has a shot at an immediate starter(if they want to use him that way).

A big question I have that would drastically effect my draft decisions... I wonder how long I can leave a guy in Single A. There are a few 23-25 year olds in the draft that if I took I'd start immediately.

But there are a *lot* of hitters that are 21 or so with numbers in the solid low-mid 50s all the way down the line. I wonder if one of those guys in single-A would see signifigant progress in his first year or two such that they can become stars in their mid 20s.

Oh, and do we know when the draft occurs? (I really should go look through the FAQ/help huh? :)

Dola:

To answer my own question abuot drafting, this is from the "All about Leagues" help file(I'm assuming I wasn't the only one here who hasn't read all this stuff yet) ;)

==============================================
The draft will be processed automatically five calendar days (real calendar days) after the draft list is made available. Depending on your sim schedule, this is between ten and 40 simulated games after the 40th day of the season (the actual formula being number of simulated games per day times five game days).

Your team will draft up to three players (one in each round of the three-round draft), provided you have enough room in low minors. Since all amateur draft players automatically go to low minors, and there is a maximum of 10 players in low minors, if you already have 8 or more players in low minors, you will draft less than three players! In fact, if you have 10 players in low minors, you will skip the draft altogether! Be sure to pay attention to your roster when it's time for the draft!

I think the interface for ranking your draft picks is just ornery.

You can't have them listed in order, so ranking them become a pain. If you submit 2 guys as the same ranking, it won't let you proceed. You have to needle out who it is. That sounds petty, but it's a pain to set up the list, only to find 2 guys are the same, then go through all 80 guys to try to find what # isn't being used, then adjust every guy who's ranked after that empty slot.

If it'd just rank it in the order of your preference, it'd be SO much easier.

I turned OFF auto numbering and numbered everyone from 1 to 80 right down the list in order. I submitted that, turned on auto-numbering, and the 8-10 small changes I made(including bumping up some position playerse from 50ish to #6 on the list) all worked with the auto-renumbering.

Dunno if that will work consistnatly though.

It was working for me earlier. At least I think it was working. I didn't go through it number by number to double check it. Maybe I should...

If you submitted your changes, and it didn't work it woudl have put a message right above the list that said something like invalid numbering, not saving changes.

Sweet, must have worked then. I need to go back and do some more thorough alterations, though. Maybe tomorrow, I'm gettin kinda tired.

Sweet, I just realized that I have the second best divisional record in the league at 17-7!

It just too bad that I'm 6-12 outside of Division 1... :(

Damn, you took 2 out of 3 against me. Big stretch coming up, I have 4 games on the road against the last place team, and then home series against the two teams in our division that are .500.

Hi. I'd just like to say that I don't like rkmsuf.

We were just beginning to feel good about ourselves. Then we took a trip to Foxboro. rkmsuf and the Phlegm opened up a keg o' WhoopAss[tm] upon us. Sending us home with a 4 game sweep, crying like 4 year olds.

What a terribly poor host. :)

Yeah, he just beat me 10-0:( Doesn't matter though, my team seems to have given up hope for the season:(

Div 2 is just starting to get intertesting. It looked like the Silver Bullets were going to run away and hide, but some have now gotten back into the race....ahem.

I think that Div 2 is the cream of the cop of teams, so far we have 4 of the top 6 best records in the league.

or

we are beating up on the two worst teams in the entire league.

You decide.

Well I haven't looked at everyone else's teams, but I'd say that the top 20 picks in the draft at least(maybe more) would immediately find a spot in my major league roster, so I can see with that + player development might do for the talent level in our league in just 2-3 years.

Don't count your starters before you contend.

Rember players in the Low minors develop faster than players in the majors or AAA level. As a cellar dweller I am going to assume that I will keep all my draft picks down for at least a year.

I am too, whether I'm winning or not(I'm contending in my division but I'm not going to bring up my draft picks). I'm shooting for the younger talent, the 20-21 year olds that look really good.

If I do end up with one of the decent 25 year olds, yeah, I'll probably put him on my major league roster, but we don't relaly know exactly how well the low minors improvements work so I'm keeping anyone that isn't already 25 down there that started down there just to see.

Over in Division 4, the contenders and pretenders are starting to take form, in what I still say is the most difficult division.

A 6 game winning streak has thus far kept Palm Desert 1 game back of the leader.

Division 4 is really heating up now, I'm only 2 games back myself, I'm pretty disappointed though, I only went 2-2 vs the last place team in a recent series, I did take 3 of 4 from Cincinatti though.

I have one more series at home in the division, before embarking on a 36 game road set against Divisions 3 and (I think) Division 2. This is going to be scary.

The battle for first place in Division 4 has commenced between Palm Desert and Cincinatti, with the Avengers taking the first game of the 3 game series.

Whoever wins this series goes out with sole possession of first place.

Managed to move two games up on Wyandotte and am now only one game out of first. I still have two games against them, so hopefully by the end of the series I'll be in first!

Or, you guys can beat each other up and I'll sweep whoever I'm playing(Arlington I think, I forget...) and jump over you into first place. :)

I'm glad you weren't that hot when I played you yesterday :)

I just got swept badly in South Boston... you and me and coffee Warlord are all sitting 5 games back of cincinatti now. Only 33 more road games in a row for me.
