Blah.
When thsi whole NFL Network thing got going I wasn't THAT concerned because I thought I would always get the Redskins game.
I was wrong.
This is utter crap and the NFL has no one to blame but themselves. I feel very strongly that this move is sending the NFL down a very bad path that could really hurt them.
Anyway... 0-0 game so far and neither offense seems to be doing much of anything. Apparently Rex went out with some kind of injury?

Yeah, I had it on for a few minutes and it's crap.
I turned on the stream of the ever decreasing in quality Redskins Radio.

Grossman is out, and it didn't look good. Leg got hit from the side and rolled up on.
Desmond
12-06-2007, 08:13 PM
I must also applaud the fact that the box score on the gamecast does not in fact show you who has possesion. Top notch.

He comes back in and now it sounds like a potentially serious knee injury.

The online coverage has had more injury footage than actual game time I think.

Yeah, look at Angelo's track record with Top 10 picks. He does *so* well with them.
Bears fans can't even look forward to the draft. High 1st rounders for us are traditionally a clusterfuck (especiallly on offense).

Yeah, these are the games that should be on NFL Network. Teams that nobody really cares about and teams that are downright terrible. Packers-Cowboys should have been moved to Sunday night or late Sunday afternoon so a national audience could see it. If Bears-Redskins was on Sunday night, it would have gotten lower ratings than Packers-Cowboys on NFL Network! At least the Redskins won because the Bears are terrible and I'm glad that they suck again.

Is the suggestion here that you would have remembered this game if it had been on ESPN or FOX? Isn't it possible that it's the odd night that causes you to not know the game is on instead of the network carrying the game? Like if Sunday Night football was on NFLN, would you forget it was on just because of who supplies the feed? Or is the odd schedule that you're complaining about? There has been so much grousing about the NFL "killing themselves" of late I can't tell which complaint is which...

The RKsmurf pretty much nailed it.
It's like hockey on Versus. I am a hockey fan, but other than watching the occassional game on Versus, I never watch that channel. Ever. I usually find out a game is on by flipping through the HD channels on a Monday night and seeing the game on. That's pretty much it.
I don't watch too much ESPN, outside of college football and Monday night football, but I always remembered about the Thursday night college football game because of ads on Saturday or Monday.
Now, if I had the NFL Network, I am pretty sure I would be much more in tune with its schedule and when the games would be on. Since I don't have it, I pay no real attention to it, so whatever game they are showing is totally out of my mind.
So, to clarify, my complaints are as follows:
1. I don't get the NFL Network, so I don't watch it, so I'm rarely reminded there is a game on.
2. Since I don't get the NFL Network, I pay no real attention to its programming, games or otherwise.
Not being able to see the game is one thing, but not even thinking about it is quite another.

Really? Not every Thursday. It was Thanksgiving and then Saturdays after college football wrapped. I checked a site with dates and times of every game listed for the last ten years. Last season was the first one where there was a Thursday night game played EVERY week after Thanksgiving (with the exception of week 17). They introduced this package of games for the NFL network. If you can find some evidence that contradicts this, I'll happily be corrected.

The SD-Tenn game has been pretty brutal today, at least 6 injury timeouts including both starting QB's and Antonio Gates (back or hip). Gates was back at the end of the half. Vince Young was back in after a bizarre injury where he handed off the ball then turned to watch where the runner went and didn't see Merriman coming and ran right into him. He was out of the game late in the half though. Rivers got hit in the knee/leg and went to the lockeroom, but came back to the sideline before the half
It was Kerry Collins vs Billy Volek there for a while and not a good return to Tennessee for Volek. Threw an INT on a screen play where he was no where near the receiver, could have easily had another INT. And he got sacked. LT got called on unsportsmanlike conduct and K Birounas yanked a 29 yard FG wide.

That wasn't a terrible call at all. They finally got a shot of it and McCown was totally defenseless and out of the play. I am rather disappointed in Jenkins for nailing him blindsided like that when they guy is basically walk-jogging along. If that had been done to Favre the world would be in an uproar right now.
NO! So Jenkins should just allow McCown to waltz through and make the tackle? NO! You hit people! This is football! Favre wouldn't be that stupid to get hit like that!

If the QB is running down the field trying to make a tackle, he's fair game! And he was barely even hit! Damn Lions! Stop somebody!!!!!
Ok, maybe you need to see the play again. As I said, he was not running downfield to make a play. He was jogging so slowly it was almost a walk, and he had very little intention of trying to make a play. As you can see from most shots of that play, it clearly didn't happen anywhere in the area of where the play started, went, or ended. It was a penalty at the very least.

Sometimes teams just don't play as well as they should or normally do, like Green Bay last week. ;)
It's just one of those days for Dallas combined with Detroit play their A-game. Though it will be funny to hear Dallas fans who are worried and want people fired when they call NFL Radio this week win or lose.

I agree it should be a penalty, but it shouldn't wipe out a TD return. As you said, the play was nowhere near what was going on the field for a TD. How does that cancel out a TD??

It's a rather big penalty, so allowing the TD and enforcing the penalty on the kickoff is a crappy way to go about things too. And it goes that way for any penalty by the scoring team really. It may have been away from the play, but it is still a penalty by the team scoring, so therefore the play doesn't count. Giving the Packers the ball, minus 15 yards from where the play happened, is a lot better then saying it is Oakland ball and acting like the INT never happened.

Atari Bigby INT! TOUCHDOWN! Called back! Terrible call Hocouli!
I haven't seen the play, but I refuse to believe that Ed made a terrible call. I think it is way more likely that a homer fan isn't pleased with a correct ruling by the greatest ref in the history of sports.

I'm surprised to hear that(from both you and Jeeber). Green Bay and Dallas generally appear to be head and shoulders above the rest of the NFC and it seems to me that home field advantage for either team would be critical. Not that a loss means that you go nuts about firing people, but the semi-indifference towards a loss.

A better way to go is to not call it a penalty at all and let the football players do what they're paid to do and that's hit people! Bigby was robbed of a touchdown.

I was sitting in a room at my companies terminal with several Cowboy fans, in a suburb of Dallas, wearing my Favre jersey. Trust me I wasn't brushing it off sitting there taking shit, being asked why I haven't taken off my jersey yet. :D It was rather crappy. But, the Packers are 10-2, about to be 11-2. No, you're up one game with the tiebreaker which makes it a two game lead with three to play.
