This is the officialish FOFC Cup III website:
Website of FOFC Cup III (http://webhome.idirect.com/~stevegougeon/FOFC-cup/)
These rules will also be on the website, but just so everyone can see them...
This is tiebreaker within each group:
1- Head-to-head
2- Goal difference
3- Goals scored
4- Higher seed
This is tiebreaker for the 4 3rd place teams to advance:
1- Goal difference
2- Goals scored
3- Higher seed
No-show rule:
If a team challenges another, posts it in the appropriate topic in the forum and the other team does not accept, that team is awarded a 5-0 win.
If a team is still in their country's cup, both teams are awarded a 0-0 draw.
Advancement:
After 5 weeks of group play, the following teams advance into a 32-team single elimination tournament:
14- 1st place teams
14- 2nd place teams
4- 3rd place teams
In the 32-team tournament, the higher total FrogMan ranking as used to determine the seedings will be the home team.
During the group play, cup-rules are not used. In the 32-team elimination rounds, cup-rules will be used.

Are points going to be the first determinant here?

Yes, when you want to break a tie, it's because the teams are tied in points...

bump...
HornedFrog,
Maybe you should sticky this and edit your top message to include a link to the Cup website so everyone know where to look for cup information... I'll try to set up the rules on the website tonight or tomorrow...
FM
PS: we also need a deadline as to when it is that we say a team has not accepted a challenge (Monday, Tuesday??)

The rules have been incorporated to the Cup Website and I have also added a Checklist page for week 1 where you can see who has booked their game and who still has to book something.
HornedFrog, please go over the rules and let me know if anything isn't right...

Rules look fine, just one small edit:
No-show rule: If a team challenges another, posts it in the appropriate topic in the forum and the other team does not accept before Monday 5pm EDT, the challenging team is awarded a 5-0 win.

Excellent work. Looks like the Fantastic Flying Froggies and I have the first game in the Cup, no pressure or anything :) Too bad I'll probably miss the whole game with it's 9 AM EST start time (darn trips to France will cost me not 1 but 2 match viewings!)

Was there ever any discussion of having the bracket of 32 be a blind draw each week? Just a thought, I like that routine better than a fixed bracket. Anyone else?

A blind draw each week is an interesting idea, worthy of some consideration. I believe we've already established the rules for FOFC Cup III, and probably shouldn't deviate from them now that we've started, but could always change things for FOFC Cup IV.
I think a blind draw, like just about anything else, has some good elements and some bad.
Good: more of a random factor, giving lower-end teams a (better?) chance to make it to the later rounds, depending on the luck of the draw.
Bad: eliminates the advantage of doing well in group play. If we're talking about a purely blind draw, then there's no difference between going 5-0 in group play and doing just enough to advance. Also improves the possibility of a good team going down early, because they have to play another top-end team (what if the #1 and #2 seeds draw each other in the first week?).
An alternative might be a high-low draw. In the round of 32, each of the top 16 teams would be matched up against a random team from the bottom 16. Of course, this would give more of an advantage to the #16 team, who would presumably get an easier draw than they would have normally, and penalize the #1 team (who would not automatically get to play the #32 team).
Just some food for thought.

anyone else willing to bet the 5-0 walkover rule will be the deciding factor for the 3rd place teams that advance?

Actually there have not been but 3 or 4 walkover games for 2 weeks of play which is pretty good I think. It might be a factor for the final 3rd place team, but it is too early to tell.
What happened to the site?

Should be updated tonight. Had absolutely no time for it on Wednesday or yesterday night. Sorry, real life got in the way :)
FM
It's not that it wasn't updated, but it just wasn't working.
Are you serving the site off of your computer?
FrogMan

nope, it's on my ISP's server. It's free and sometimes it's kind of shaky. I checked it this morning and it was morning.
Right after replying I thought it might what you were implying, that it was not accessible. And before anybody asks, no I'm not using Hattrick's server to host the cup website ;)
FM
We wouldn't ever get to see it if that was the case.
Are we going to have a poll for brackets determination ?

FYI, West Fargo in Group C only appears to have gotten "credit" for the first week so far in the latest update.

Thanks for letting me know. This has been corrected and the new "standings" and "group C" pages have been uploaded to the website.

In retrospect, I wonder if the scheduling of the top and second seeds from each group in the first round was the best way to go. I'm sure that there were a fair number of groups (mine included) where that match had to be a washout, because of continued cup participation.
If most of our group play ends up skipping the match between its top two seeds, then you end up with a weird setup for that system, I think. I suppose it reduces the "penalty" for not being able to play in the cup match (a top seed losing out on a sure win) but in my mind, it oes take away a bit from the group play dynamic.
Alas, as my group's second seed, a 0-0 tie against lytic's side is probably a better outcome than I deserved, so from a selfish perspective, I ought to clam up.

If I remeber correctly only one team missed a match due to cup games. I think that the disparity comes from the A team B team. alot of people that are middle of the pack and worse dont have a B team. And alot of people that play their B team get beat because most people here cant afford a great backup squad.

So to determine seedings for the round of 32, it's like so, correct?
1) Points
2) Original Seed
Or are we doing the same tie breakers for seeding that we did for entry into the elimination round?
1) Points
2) Differential
3) Total Goals
Just trying to figure out how I'm seeding the consolation cup.
