Tomorrow marks the beginning of World Cup III in Hattrick world.
I know USA will not be active in the first two rounds, since they are ranked in the top 8 in the world, but some countries of other users will be in action tomorrow.
Among FOFCers countries that will be in action tomorrow...
Canada plays Eesti
England plays Uruguay
France plays Prathet Thai
Good luck to them, and from me
GO CANADA!!!
:D

Thats cool... do they run this every 4 years like in real life? GO USA! But I think we all know who will win... Sverige... Who won the last 2?

They run every other year alternating with the U-20's. Sweden has won every year in fact I think they have only ever lost two games.

Thats unfortunate... wish they would do something to level the playing field.

Somebody might know better than me, but I think they do it every other season, alternating with the U20 world cup.
I would guess that Sverige won the first two, but I'm not sure...

Sweden has won every WC (U20 and full) thus far. However, we (USA) did beat them in a friendly. USA is the only other team aside from Sweden to make it to the quaterfinals every season so far (U20 and full). This will be the season we make it to the semis.

Can't wait to watch some of the action. Would be great if the US could transfer some of the friendly success to the cup.

Just for Frog Man, I will be rooting for Estonia tomorrow. That blatant display of anti-American sentiment will not be tolerated 'round here buddy ;) Seriously though, all North American teams will get cheered for by me as well as anyone facing Sweden aka Hat Trick's Evil Empire/Yankees.

NAIWF, I know you've included the obligatory ;) in your comment, but I hope you don't see me, or any comments I've made here, as anti-American. I know many Quebecers have made fools of themselves with anti-American comments and/or attitude, but believe me I'm not one of them. I probably got more American friends than I have from Quebec and my son has dual citizenship American/Canadian, as he was born in the States...
I don't want to open a can of worms and I'm pretty sure it wasn't your intentions either, I just wanted to make my position clear, as it seems it differs a bit to the one taken by many other Quebecers... I'll follow about the same cheering plan you proposed, Go Canada, Go USA, Go anybody who plays against Sweden :)
Anybody thinks USA could repeat their friendly win over Sweden if they ever play each other in the Cup? I have not followed international HT games enough to even have an opinion, that's why I'm asking...

I was just being silly since I know you were just supporting Canada, but it's fun making the obligatory exchange rate jokes and things like that. On an entirely un-HT related note I thought it was idiotic the way that ESPN tried to play up Serena Williams being booed as anti-Americanism. It couldn't be that she's an obnoxious player or WAY too cocky, or that she mocked France earlier in the event right?
Back to HT, if Canada wasn't playing a WC Qualifier today, the only match I'd watch is the USA u-20 team. As far as the US beating Sweden in the Cup, I'm going to say it probably won't happen because it would be a Semifinal or Final match if I read the situation correctly and I'm sure Sweden would MOTS. You can MOTS World Cup games right?
Hopefully Sweden gets upset before that happens and we can take the Cup, sorta like what the New Jersey Nets were hoping when the Lakers got beat this year. What's that? The Nets are already down 1-0 in the NBA Finals . . . damnit ;)

I'll be rooting for our brothers from north of the border today, but Team Canada needs to be careful. Team Estonia is one of those border-line teams that just might surprise some people. I'll be sure to watch the match today.

Can someone please give a breakdown of the whole World Cup format? Does it differ from the actual World Cup, ie; 32 Teams, in 8 Groups of 4 Format?
Also, are we able to follow these Matches just as we can regular H-trick Matches?
THANKS!!

You can find all of this information under the "World Cup" Section of the main menu on the left hand portion of the screen. And yes, you can follow these games just like regular Hattrick matches.

I think the "better" team gets the advantage of hosting these matches.
I always manage to confuse myself by talking about lower and higher seeds. Are higher seeds better, because they're "higher," or are lower seeds better, because of the lower number of the seed.
Bah. I think you get the idea. Canada is more highly ranked, and therefore is playing host to the Estonian team as we speak.

Thanks NAIWF.. A shame to see the South African's just barely miss out on the WC.. Oh well, they'll make up for it on the Rugby trail..
..DK, I know what you're saying. One of the only things in the world where we talk about lower being better and higher being worse is when it comes to seeding for sporting events and such.
I just figured we'd have the "worse" seeded team hosting in this as has been the case in the US Cup.. Oh well... Thanks for the info.

Oh yeah. Duh. Brain fart on my part. :p
All matches take place in the Netherlands for this year's cup, including the preliminaries going on right now.
Speaking of which, Team Canada has had two scoring opportunities in the first 27 minutes, but have failed to convert. Estonian keeper Tarmo Parts, only 19 years old, made a spectacular block to keep the match scoreless.
Hmm..i guess team Canada did'nt want any of my players :D

I just looked down most of the top teams games and everything is still pretty close and holding to form. This is the first World Cup I've seen of any kind, so my question is does it basically go according to the ranks? I mean we all assume Sweden will win, but are there ever any real upsets before we get to the final?

Kind of ironic, Parts is the starting keeper for a team named High Park FC, team that is based in Toronto, Canada :)

You do get the occasional surprise team, from what I have seen. If I remember correctly, Poland did surprisingly well in the last World Cup.

You're allowed to play with these formations, you just don't get training from them.

I think there's a rule against firing a player who is on a national team. Maybe if you got to him before he got on the national team, then maybe you could do it, evil man :)

Latvia is actually tied with Oceania 1-1 despite running an 0-8-2. If they win, I think that would be a good indicator that defense is useless in this game.

Sounds like the WC is making a mockery of the Hattie game engine...perhaps this will force the programmers to lay off the way midfield controls the game so much.

There was a flap about this a couple of months ago. IIRC, it involved some Swedes, but I'm not sure if they were the ones buying up the players or if it was the Sweedish national team that was getting raided.
