I'd suggest that if you haven't heard fromt them by now (or over 24 hrs or some amount of time in the future) that you just put them on autopilot until they return and have them choose a sensible course of action. I think it'll keep your dynasty moving along more smoothly and when they return, they probably won't object to your providing some guidance in their absence. I would still wait for those who continue to get back to you in a decent amount of time though.

EVENT 4 - HIGH JUMP - Status Update

I have completed this event with:

Pflaggstettler
Mello
Babson
Gunner
Cat
Yellope (I finished him using the instructions listed in the post above - picking up the jumps at 6' 9" and jumping at every new height until maxed out, reaching 8 jumps, or 3 misses whichever came first)

and am scheduled to finish with Gonzalez this morning.

We are now on 6' 8" and I'll need instructions from:

Kappe
Soldier
Palmer

before I can continue. Unfortunately, Kappe and Soldier are 2 that haven't gotten instructions in for a while - so I expect I'll have to wait until tomorrow to continue the event. (I'm open for suggestions. If you see them online maybe PM to them that we need instructions before we can move on.)

If anyone active wants to complete the event through PM I'm still open to that option.

Just get them going with basic strategy until you hear back from em.

Palmer will go both 6'8" and 6'9". If he gets both jumps in 4 jumps or less he will try 6'10. If not he will be done.

OK the majority of participants would prefer I starting moving on with the players who haven't been as active. Therefore, if I haven't received input from Kappe or Soldier by tomorrow I will continue jumping there players every inch until the have 7 jumps, 3 misses, or have maxed out.

I'll give Mighty the opportunity to get his instruction in, because he's been good about keeping in touch.

I have now finished the event with:

Pflaggstettler
Yellope
Palmer
Mello
Babson
Ivanov
Eckberg
Gunner
Cat

EVENT 4 - HIGH JUMP - Status Update

Gonzalez is now finished with this event.

Since I'm going to finish up the event for Soldier and Kappe tomorrow if they don't contact me (and I don't expect they will), if Lesgettham, Mighty and Elli can be prepared to go as well, we'll finish the event before the weekend. Then I'll see if I have time to get the 400 in as well (since it required no interaction on your part). I do have several meetings tomorrow so no promises, but we'll see.

I was personally kind of hoping to use some strategy in my jumps, but if the other two decide to do all their jumps, I will too.

Vex,

You can. I'm not asking you to do it through PM, just to be available to annouce your decisions. With most people finished, the rest of the event will move quickly as long as you and Mighty are available. (note:Lesgettham sent me some pretty detailed instructions through PM last night).

EVENT 4 - HIGH JUMP - Review

9 of the 16 competitors in this event ended with a height of 6' 11" or 6' 10". However, not all 6' 11"s or 6' 10"s are created equal. 6' 10" for Elli was a good jump, 6' 10" for Eckberg isn't, and to add insult to....um....injury - he got injuried in the process.6' 11" for Babson and Mighty was good, while 6' 11" for Nights was a poor result - as he really had several opportunities to clear 7' on his card. Regardless of the people mentioned above in a negative light - Ivanov probably suffered the most in this event. As noted on the Preview - Ivanov isn't a strong high jumpter, but the only height he cleared was his opening height.

A couple of quick notes on roll information. Gunner who won the event could have easily added another couple inches to his height. In his 7 rolls he hit the 7' 4" column 3 times and had he gone on the 8th roll would have hit it again. Had Nights attempted 7' rather than 7' 2" he would have cleared, but that was the best he was going to do. Had Kappe attempted an 8th jump he would have injured himself. Just some tidbits of information I thought you might like.

A LOOK AT THE LEADERBOARD

When you're in first place going into an event and you finish first in that event, obviously you stay in first. However, Lesgettham and Pflaggstettler did a nice job staying with Gunner. With most of the competitors in this event finishing tightly bunched there wasn't much change in the standings. The only major ones appear to be Gonzalez and Ivanov who basically switched places on the board. The other thing that is becoming obvious are Cat and Palmers' positions. They are even starting to fall off the pace of the 14th place competitor.

EVENT 5 - 400 METERS - Preview

This is going to be one wild event. Half of the field is horrible in this event, and the other half is evenly split between being good and dominating. This is one event where the standing could change dramatically. Interestingly enough - two of the athletes that aren't good in this event include the overall leader (Gunner) and the guy in second (Lesgettham), so the board will undoubtedly bunch at the top. Babson and Eckberg are poor in this event and the injury is going to add to their times, so expect them to finish 15th and 16th overall.

EVENT 5 - 400 METERS - Heat 1

The gun sounds on the first heat and the runners start out in a real conservative pace. No one is applying themselves early in this split. Yellope is out in front and his 1st split time is 11.8, good, but he's capable of better. Gonzalez is a couple strides back with Mighty right on his outside hip. Babson's 13.35 time is a full second behind the 7th place runner at the first split.

In the second split it looked like Yellope was going to open it up, but he immediately slowed down and his stride has shortened significantly, he may have tweaked a hamstring. At the end of the second Pflaggstettler had flown past Yellope and Gonzalez to take the lead. His split time was 11.85 and his time at the halfway point was 24.05. At the split Yellope was on the inside lane with Lesgettham having closed - running stride-for-stride with him in lane 2. The rest of the runners were tightly bunched except for Babson, who was almost 2 seconds back at this point.

At the end of the 3rd split Pflaggstettler was still leading., Followed by Mello who overtook Yellope, who fell to all the way to 7th, and Lesgettham, who's hold on 3rd was precarious.

In the last 100 Meters Pflaggstettler kept his solid pace going and his final split time of 12.10 was good enough to win the heat. An awesome final split time of 11.6 by Palmer allowed him to pass Mello, who was able to hold on to 3rd place. Lesgettham seemed to hit a wall and posted a poor 12.3 time in the final 100 meters, allowing Mighty to sneek in a tie him. Gonzalez, who was only strides ahead of Yellope at the end of split 3, had a horrible 4th 100, posting a time of 12.6, but thankfully for him Yellope's injury became to much and he posted an even worse split of 12.75. Babson, nearly walked across the line.

EVENT 5 - 400 METERS

The second heat start off much differently than the first. At the gun Ivanov and Cat take off and open up a big lead on the rest of the field. Cat's first 100 split is 11.55 and Ivanov's is 11.65. The rest of the group is pretty slow - Elli managed a split of 12.15, but the rest are 12.4 or worse, with injured runners Eckberg and Soldier bringing up the rear.

At the end of the second split both Ivanov and Cat slowed down in the 2nd hundred, but both still posted sub 12 second times - and Cat held on to his early lead. Elli also has a sub 12 second split. Gunner and Nights began to pull away from the 2 injured runners and Kappe in this split.

In the 3rd 100 meters, Ivanov kicked it into high gear, finishing the distance in 11.55 and taking the lead from Cat - with a total time of 35.15. Cat was .15 back. Elli opened his lead for 3rd place, Nights was 4th, with Gunner a couple strides back. Kappe spot in 6th looks secure because Soldier, who's normally good in this event had a horbile split of 13.75.

In the final 100, Ivanov seemed to run out of gas, with about 20 meters left Cat flew by and took the tape. The race of 3rd, 4th and 5th was non-existant as Ellie finished a good .3 ahead of Gunner who was almost .3 ahead of Nights. The final 3 runners, none of which finished in a sub-50 second time, crossed over a full second later - Kappe, Soldier, Eckberg.

EVENT 5 - 400 METERS - Review

Gunner and Lesgettham had valiant efforts in this event, and despite being poor performers - they were able to finish in the middle of the pack. By avoiding the huge number, they've positioned themselves well for a run at a medal in day 2. The big loser in this event was Yellope. Yellope was 4th coming into this event, which is one of his strengths. Had he not gotten hurt, he undoubted would have climbed into the top 3. All the injured peformers were losers in this event, as they suffered through the 1 lap event and fell way off the pace.

Some interesting information: If Yellope hadn't gotten hurt he would have won this event - his time of 49.85 includes a 3 second penalty (because he was injured in leg 2 - it applies to that leg and every subsequent leg). Without the penalty he runs a 46.85. Babson, who is a C card runner, rolled his 2 best outcomes in his column and would have posted a 58.15 without the injury.

EVENT 6 - 110 METER HURDLES - Preview

Day 2 starts with an event that requires numerous skills to be successful. In this event, we have a few guys who are very good, including Babson and Soldier, but both of them suffered injuries in day one. Getting the night off allowed them to receive treatment which will help, but they still won't be 100%. Pflaggstettler has to hope for a good run, because Gunner and Lesgettham , who sit above him in the standings, are both better than he is in this event. In fact, Lesgettham, Kappe, Elli, and Cat are probably favorites, with Babson and Soldier being wild cards.

EVENT 6 - 110 METER HURDLES - Heat 1

The runners take their mark, the gun sounds and their off...

Pflaggstettler has gotten a terrible start out of the blocks, while Lesgettham is the first to the first hurdle.

Lesgettham begins to hit his stride early and is already pulling away from the other runners. Yellope and Mighty are next, but they are so close I can't honestly say who's leading. Gonzalez and Palmer and Babson are a few strides back. Mello, who is extremely fast is having a hard time with his footwork and can't seem to gain any momentum. Pflaggstettler is trailing badly.

At the last hurdle Lesgettham has a big lead...but...he clips the hurdle with his heal and lands awkwardly. He doesn't fall, in fact, he's able to regain control quickly, but that bobble cost him a considerable amount of time...

At the tape Lesgettham is able to hold off Mighty and Yellope who cross at the same time. Babson hits his stride just past the halfway point and easily pulls away from Gonzalez and Palmer, who finish 5 and 6 respectively. Mello crosses ahead of Pflaggstettler.

After the race is over, Lesgettham is observed rubbing his right knee. Looking back at the video it appears he may have twisted it when he stubbled.

EVENT 6 - 110 METER HURDLES - Heat 2

The gun sounds for the second heat and Kappe, Elli, Cat, Ivanov, Gunner and Soldier explode out of the block quickly establishing themselves. Soldier was the first to the hurdles with Kappe right on his heals. Eckberg and Nights are trailing badly.

At the 3rd hurdle one of the event favorites, Elli, fails to clear cleanly and is forced to adjust his steps approaching the 4th hurdle - causing him to lose all his momentum and ruining his technique.

At the half way point Kappe overtakes Soldier and Gunner begins to pull away from Ivanov, Cat.

At the 8th hurdle Ivanov pulls up dramatically - and begins to fade. Also when Eckberg hits the ground after clearing the 8th hurdle he begins hoping. Appearently the foot injury he suffered in the high jump isn't holding up to the pounding in this event.

Kappe pulls away from the others down the stretch and reaches the line first. Soldier is second, Gunner 3rd and Cat 4th. Elli ends up catching up and passing the hobbling Ivanov who finishes 6th and Nights crosses 7th. Eckberg never cleared the 9th hurdle. He ended up sitting on the track, and currently trainers are attending to him.

EVENT 6 - 110 METER HURDLES - Review

The Decathlon is a grueling event and this one is really starting to take its toll. 6 of the 16 athletes are injured and 1, Eckberg has been forced to withdraw.

Lesgettham was on his way to a great time before his injury, he still managed to finish 4th overall in the event even with the stumble. However, Gunner's inpressive effort allowed him to open his lead, and with Lesgettham's injury it will be almost impossible for him to gain ground and in fact, he'll be hard press to hang on to a medal. Kappe's impressive performance allowed him to jump from 10th to 4th while on the other end of the spectrum Night's terrible run dropped him from 4th to 8th. With Yellope, Ivanov , Babson, and Soldier also injured the door is wide open for those still healthy to move up and contend for a medal.

Pflaggstettler
Conservative - an excellent conservative column with scores as high as 169' including one on 36 (5.5%). Still has low end results in the 130s
Normal - 23, 24, 27, 37 are over 170' (177' is the highest on a 10 roll)- as are a couple low probability rolls. Most of the rest of the rolls are in the mid 60s
Aggressive - a real poor column here. 173' appear to be tops - occuring 4 times. Other than those rolls there are 2 in the upper 160's and the rest are in the mid 150's

Lesgettham
Conservative - Has the ability to get into the 150' range, if he does though he should feel extremely lucky.
Normal - NA
Aggressive - NA

Yellope
Conservative - Not good in this event = very low scores in the conservative column. The bad news - top end roll is 140', good news - it's on the most probable roll of 35.
Normal - 155' is the high end, but it's on a 15 and 19 roll - which are next to impossible to hit.
Aggressive - NA

Palmer
Conservative - though he's much better in discus than Yellope - this conservative column looks very familiar. If it's better, it's only slightly better.
Normal - Quite a few results over 150' - including high probability rolls of 24, 25, and 36.
Aggressive - Can get 168' or 167' - but most of the column is in the low to mid 140s'

Mighty
Conservative - All has a nice 151' on a 35 in this column. Most of the results are around 131'
Normal - 160' on 33 is a nice result. Has quite a few in the upper 150's
Aggressive - 168' is the top end on 28. Got 1 other result over 160' and few in the 150s, most are mid 140s

Gonzalez
Conservative - 4 results over 150' in the conservative column.
Normal - 20 of 30 results are better than150', with 5 on the high end of 160'
Aggressive - 5 results over 150' with 3 over 160' - high end is 168'

Mello
Conservative - almost everything falls between 132' to 145'
Normal - 13 results over 150' but most fall in the lower probability rolls in the teens.
Aggressive - terrible aggressive column. Only 2 results over 160' and the sit on 10 and 12. Most result are in the mid 140s

Babson
Conservative - A few results are over150', results are widely spread out.
Normal - with 18 of 30 results over 150' he should be able to get a decent score here. Needs to avoid the 4 results under 140'
Aggressive - NA

Kappe
Conservative - Widely spread results - too numerous to mention - probable outcome would be in the low 140s
Normal - only 1 result over 160', quite a few over 150'
Aggressive - 3 results over 160' most in the low to mid 140's

Ivanov
Conservative - best he can hope for is a 152' - pray for a 17.
Normal - NA
Aggressive - NA

Soldier
Conservative - 1 result over 150' - evenly spread with the rest between 130's and 140's
Normal - quite a few in the 150's - most in the low 150's
Aggressive - NA

Gunner
Conservative - Can get into the 160's in the conservative column including a 167' on 33 WOW.
Normal - 12 results over 170'
Aggressive - Has a 183' on 16. It isn't likely he'll get it, but if he does - he could just about wrap this thing up.

Elli
Conservative - a 150' on 32 is nice and another on 30 doesn't hurt. The rest to routeen.
Normal - some over 160' but the most likely are 161' on 30 and 160' on 31.
Aggressive - 3 over 160' Most in the 140's

Cat
Conservative - will be lucky if he gets a 140' roll in this column - if he does it will be because he hits the 149' on 34.
Normal - not a bad column for a low end discus performer. could get over 150', also could end up in 126' range
Aggressive - 1 shot at bettering 150, with a 156' on 24. 156' is the high end for Cat.

Nights
Conservative - '164 on 36 and 156' on 35 is real good for a conservative column.
Normal - only 1 roll is under 150' - 7 are over 170' - 178' is the high
Aggressive - 5 over 170', but 175' is the high in this column.

Pflaggstettler - another nice toss - but I'm not sure he improved on the first throw - official measurement - 156'

Lesgettham - almost identical throw to the first. - 131'

Yellope - clearly improves on his second toss - distance - 145'

Palmer - coming off a foul, Palmer needs to get a score - his toss is more than just a score - it's long - close to Pflaggstettler's distance - official measurement - 152'

Mighty - a little off balance on the toss - the distance is well short of throw 1. - 140'

Gonzalez - Foul

Mello - another good throw from Mello - 156'

Babson - needs a score coming off the fouled first attempt - the conservative efforts nets him 139'

Kappe - Foul

Gunner - with a good solid throw under his belt, Gunner explodes out of his pivot and launches the discus. It flys well beyond any other throw so far. Gunner gets a big grin on his face with the loud speaker annouces a distance of...176'

Elli - 144' isn't an improvement over throw 1.

Cat - second toss is short of toss 1 - 143'

EVENT 7 - DISCUS - FINAL THROW

Pflaggstettler - Can't improve on the first throw, in fact, he didn't improve on the second - 150'

Lesgettham - After 2 throws of 131' - Lesgettham needs a better performance to keep pace withe field. The injury badly happered his first two attempt - on the 3rd he gritted his teeth and gutted out a toss of 149' - not great but under the circumstances it's probably about as good as he could have hoped for.

Yellope - Fouls

Palmer - this throw appears to be just over the 150' marker. Probably won't improve on his last throw. Distance = 152'. That matches his 2nd toss.

Mighty - Mighty's 3rd toss clears the 155' marker and appear to have cleared it by a couple of feet. This will probably be his best attempt of the event. Official distance - 158'

Gonzalez - the 3rd toss is at a good trajectory. It appear to land right at the 160' marker, which would improve on David's current score. Official distance = 160'

Mello - the 3rd toss is identical to the second - 156'

Babson - sitting at a sub 140' distance - Babson needs a good toss to keep pace. The throw is good - 153' - that won't put him at the top of the event - but it will keep pace with most of the competitors.

Kappe - 141' - not an improvement over the 1st attempt.

Ivanov - can only mange 139' on the final toss, the injury must be really bothering him at this point.

Soldier - another toss of 152'

Gunner - with a huge throw in his pocket - Gunner gives one aggressive shot and clips the toeboard. Foul

EVENT 7 - DISCUS - Event Review

Picking the winners in this event is easy, Nights and Gunner! Their tosses were 15' and 100+ points more than the 3rd place athlete. Gunner's toss has given him a commanding lead with only 3 events left, and Night's toss put him right back in medal contention.

The losers are hard to pinpoin - obviously the newly injured athletes, Lesgettham and Ivanov, suffered from having to use the conservative column. The athletes injured in day 1, did reasonably well - except for Yellope.

EVENT 8 - POLE VAULT - Status Update

The next event is the pole vault, and it is handled like the high jump. You annouce what height you would like to start at and when you want to jump. After 7 jumps fatigue will become a factor in the 1500 Meters. However, unlike the high jump's fatigues hindering the 400 Meters, the Pole Vaults is split into 3 different levels (I believe it's detailed earlier in this thread - when I discussed injuries and affects). I'll try to get the preview out today so we can start jumping ASAP.

EVENT 8 - POLE VAULT - Preview

Pflaggstettler - this card is pretty tightly bunched. The low end is 13' 8", but that should be easily cleared since there is only a 1.85% chance of getting that roll. The high end is 16' 4", but there is only a 5.56% chance of reaching that. The most common rolls appear to be 15' and 15' 4". I only count 7 potential rolls below 15'.

Lesgettham - 14' is the lowest successful jump 9.7% posibility. The high end is 16' 4" - 6.5%. There are 12 rolls below 15', so determining where to start will be difficult. Most common outcome appears to be 15' 4 to 15' 8".

Yellope - this is a widely spread out card. 13' 4" is the low (5.6%). High is 16' 4" - but there is only 1 shot at it - on a roll of 20, which is a 1.85% probability. There is a 16' on 34. Hard to tell what the most probable outcome is based on eyeballing - I would guess it's around 14' 8". There are 11 rolls below 15' - so this is another card where starting height might be crucial.

Palmer - this is a much better card than the Lesgettham and Yellopes. The low is only 14' and even though it's on a higher probability rolls it should be easily cleared. There are only 8 rolls below 15' and very few appear in the 30s and 2 are on the lowest possible rolls of 10 and 19. The most common rolls of 34 and 35 have a 16' and 15' 4" respectively. High end is 16' 4" on 14 and 15 and 32 (11.2%). There are 7 rolls of 16' or better.

Mighty - 13' 8" is the low and 16' 4" is the high. Only 7 rolls under 15' and none in the 30s. Got a 16' 4" on 37 and 10 (5.1%). Most common roll is impossible to determine - appears pretty evently split between 15', 15' 4" and 16'.

Gonzalez - 13' 8" low - 16' 4" high. There are 3 very disturbing 14' 8" rolls on 37, 38, and 39, in addition to a few others spread around the card. The most common roll appears to be 15' 8", but finishing around 15' flat wouldn't surprise me.

Mello - isn't as consistent as the others listed above and his max is 16', but he's lucky in that he has a 7.4% chance of getting it. low end is 13'. There are 6 rolls below 14', 13 rolls from 13' to 14' 8" and only 4 from 15' to 15' 8".

Babson - low end is a 13' 4" roll on a difficult to get 17. There are a 7 rolls below 15' none on extremely high probability rolls. Most of the high probability stuff is right at 15' - with that height listed on 35, 36, and 37. Also has a 16' result on 34. High end is 16' 4" - and I only see one, but it's in a nice spot 24 ( 5.6%).

Kappe - has a 13' 8" on 39 - which isn't bad, what is bad is the 14' 4" results on 35, 36, and 37. There are 11 results under 15' and many in high probability areas - making decision making much more difficult. High end is 16' 4" and it's in a sweet spot of 33. Plus 2 more on difficult rolls of 17 and 12. Total chance of hitting the max - (10.2%)

Ivanov - can only get to 16' 4", but it only appears 1 time on 17 (1.39%), but has a decent shot getting 16' (20%). low end is
13' 8" on (4.2%). the rest of the results are pretty evently split from 14' 4" to 15' 8".

Soldier - 1 roll below 14' and it's on an the difficult to roll 17. 7 rolls under 15' - but a couple are unnerving, including the 14' on 33, a 14' on 35 and another on 37. Combined those 3 rolls are 19.44% likely to occur. High roll is 16' 4" but like the good fortune of only 1 occurance on the low end - there is only 1 on the high end as well.

Gunner - 13' 8" on 39 is the low result - 16' 4" is the high and it appears on 35, 31, 30, 28, and 17. There are 4 other results of 16' even. 1 problem with the car is the 14' 4" result on the high probability roll of 34, and another on 37.

Elli - another 13' 8" low - and again it's on an unlikely roll. However like Gunner there are low result rolls on 35 and 37 plus an additional one on 39. Rolls of 24 or 25 are optimal with a 16' and 16' 4" result respectively. 16' 4" also appears on 34, 33, and 22. Combined those rolls add up to a 24.5% probability. There are a few other results of 16'.

Cat - who seems to have lost interest - won't be pleased with this event. High end is only 15' 8" and they appear on 16 and 17. The rest is spread out from the low of 13' 4" to 15' with the most likely result being 14' 4".

Nights - looking to make another big move after his last event - can do it here. Nights is the only contestent capable of clearing 17' and he has 9 rolls that will do that - including the 17' 8" high end roll on that familiar number 17. Combined his chances of clearing 17' are 30.55%. The low end is 14' 8" on the 30, 24 and 14 (a little more likely that I would be comfortable with). Counting the 3 low end results there are only 6 total that are below 16' - and none are at 15' exactly.

King,

You do have a chance to clear, the only limitation this injury will cause is forcing you to quit after 7 attempts - so basically you have 1 more jump.

EVENT 8 - POLE VAULT - Review

The big winner in this event was...

Gunner. He didn't perform great, but he also didn't lose ground to the field. As long as he doesn't fall on his face or get injured, I expect he'll be very satisfied. Mello's risky strategy paid off, but he still has a lot of ground to make up, even to get into the medal contention. Babson also had a good event.

The big losers, not counting Gonzalez, who's injury probably kills his medal hopes and Ivanov, who had to resign was...

Nights. Yeah, he won the event, but he was capable of clearing 17' 8" and anything under 17' is disappointing. Had he cleared even 17' he would have gotten about 100 additional points and may have put himself within striking distance of Gunner. Cat also preformed extremely poorly, in fact, so poorly I believe he'll be in last place when then leaderboard is posted.

A LOOK AT THE LEADERBOARD

Gunner is really in the driver's seat at this point, and things don't get any better for the challengers, because Gunners is very good in the next event.

Nights made a nice jump into second and since he's also good in the Javelin and Lesgettham is injured - he probably is well positioned to at least take home a silver.

Lesgettham's effort has been admirable taking into account the injury he's been dealing with. He'll be hard pressed even with his lead to hold on to 3rd place.

The rest of the field is pretty tightly bunched, the only ones I think definately don't have a shot at a medal are, Cat, Palmer, and Soldier.

The injuries to Lesgettham, Ivanov and Gonzalez probably helped Pflaggstettler more than anyone. He's primed to jump into the medals in the next 2 events and it appears the biggest challenger from behind is going to be Kappe.

Gonzalez
Conservative - 7 chances to clear 200' - 214' is the best you can do.

Mello
Conservative - results of over 200' are on both 34 and 35 - not bad.
Normal - 9 results over 220' with some in decent spots like 224' on 36, 225' on 38, and 226' on 31.

Babson
Conservative - 9 chances to clear 200'
Normal - 6 shots to clear 220'. but 1 is on 36 - most of the rest are in the 10s
Aggressive - NA

Kappe
Conservative - Almost everything is in the 180s - except a couple high probability rolls that are over 200' - including a 221' on 35.
Normal - terrible column - only 4 results over 220' with 232' the high on 19.
Aggressive - 3 results over 220' with 233' the high on 20

Soldier
Conservative - 7 rolls over 200' but 3 are on 33, 34 and 35 - very high probibility of hitting one of those.
Normal - only 1 shot at 220' - 9 results under 200'
Aggressive - NA

Gunner
Conservative - 16 shots at bettering 200'. including a 219' on 36.
Normal - 15 shots at beating 220' including a 251' result on 27 - if he hits that - start polishing the gold.
Aggressive - 4 shots at getting better than 230' with 3 better than 240'. High roll is 252' on 29 and 11.

Elli
Conservative - a few shots at bettering 200 - most on extremely high rolls (37, 38, 39) or extremely low rolls (12, 17, 18)
Normal - 7 shots at better than 220' with decent chances on rolls of 36, 37, 38

Aggressive - 1 shot at bettering 220' on 12. 14 rolls over 200'

Nights
Conservative - couple rolls over 200 on 34 and 35. Several others spreadout evently through the column
Normal - 13 over 220, a couple of which are better than 230'. only 1 roll under 200'
Aggressive - 2 rolls in the 250's - nothering else betters 220'

EVENT 9 - JAVELIN - Throw 1

Pflaggstettler - a nice starting throw of 211'.

Lesgettham - 198' for the first effort - not bad considering he's still dealing with the injury he sustained in the hurdles.

Yellope - 214' get's David a number to build on.

Palmer - strides towards the line - tosses the javelin and in an effort to stay behind the line he twists awkwardly. The throw is a foul and he appears to have twisted a knee.

Mighty - Foul

Gonzalez - Another competitor dealing with an injury - 180' is the best he can do on throw one.

Mello - A good first effort of 213'

Babson - Brian's first throw looks like a carbon copy of Mello's - same trajectory - same basic speed and the result....the same 213'.

Kappe - clears 200' with a conservative approach - 208'

Soldier - 194'

Gunner - The leader - as has been the case throughout this meet - he puts himself in a good spot with his first throw - a great 229' effort - it might be good enough to win the event.

Elli -a huge throw - as it sails down the field it becomes obvious that Gunner's toss won't win the event outright. The official measurement...232'

Cat - a short 170' effort

Nights - has a score but he'll need to do better to stay in 2nd place - 189'

EVENT 9 - JAVELIN - Throw 2

Pflaggstettler - he crosses the line on the toss and fouls.

Lesgettham - second toss looks very similar to the first - but it actually measures out several feet shorter - 191'.

Yellope - does exactly what you are supposed to do - build on a good first throw - the second toss is very good - travelling a distance of 224'

Palmer - with his knee tightly wrapped he steps up to the line and begins his stride for his toss - with the pain of the injury plainly visable on his face - he gruts as he launches his 2nd throw. The toss is very good and it comes down just short of where Yellopes was measured. The official measurement is - 222'

Mighty - A big second throw easily overcomes the initial foul on this event - 225'

Gonzalez - improves slightly - 182'

Mello - can't better throw 1 - 207'

Babson - foul.

Kappe - foul

Soldier - foul

Gunner - Leadin the event with a good throw already in his pocket - he over strides trying to get as close to the line as possible and his toe crosses - foul

Elli -Happy with his initial 232' effor - Elli passes

Cat - a big improvement - still towards the bottom of the event standings, but a toss of 204' will bring significantly more points that a 170' effort

Nights - also gets into the 200' range - 209'

Pflaggstettler - once again his toe crosses the line - foul

Lesgettham - 3rd toss is very similar to the other 2. This one is also going to be short of his 1st throw - 193'.

Yellope - Pass

Palmer - Pass

Mighty - Looking to build on his last big toss - Mighty launches another one - this one is real long - long enough to win the event outright??? The official measurement - 238'

Gonzalez - can't better the last throw - 179'

Mello - Goes for it one last time and is paid off for the effort - 225'

Babson - hoping to follow in Mello's footsteps like he did on the first throw - but his toss is well short of Mello's199'.

Kappe - foul

Soldier - foul

Gunner - still can't better his first throw - 203'

Elli - passes

Cat - foul

Nights - overexerts himself attempting his final toss and pulls a muscle in his back - adding insult to the injury - the long throw comes to naught as the white foul flag is raised.

EVENT 9 - JAVELIN - Review

Gunner continues to peform at a top level. He finishes this event in 3rd place and just opens up his lead on the competition. Mighty's impressive final throw made a huge impact on the leaderboard as he jumps from 7th to 3rd and he only trails Nights, who peformed poorly in this event and is also dealing with an injury heading into the 1500, by 31 points.

Next to Nights, Gonzalez was probably hurt the most in this event. His injury hampered him to the point that he fell from a legitimate medal contender to 11th.

EVENT 10 - 1500 METER - Preview

This event was one that was going to produce a wide spread in results. There are 4 athletes that are really good in this event, 2 that are average and 10 that are poor. However, a lot has changed since this event started.

Of the 4 contestants that are good in the 1500:

- Yellope was injured in the last event of day 1 - the 400 Meters
- Palmer was injured in the last event
- Soldier was injured way back in the long jump.
- That leaves Cat - as the lone 1500 Meter specialist not dealing with an injury.

Of the 2 average 1500 meter runners - 1, Ivanov, has had to resign completely from the competition, making Elli one of the other favorites in the event.

All this bodes well for Gunner, who isn't good in this event, but neither are any of the people remotely close to him on the leaderboard.

This is going to be a very interesting finish. Gunner pretty much as the goal locked up - barring a major injury in this event, I think he'll pretty much win it going away. However, the rest of the leaderboard could change significantly.

Currently, Nights is in 2nd place, but being a poor 1500 Meter runner and dealing with an injury will cause his time to be EXTREMELY SLOW. Mighty may be perfectly positioned to take the silver. He's uninjured and easily within striking distance of Nights - but he isn't good in this event. Lesgettham, who's peformance has been admirable - battling through injuries all of the 2nd day to stay in medal contention - he's not good in this event and his injuries are really going to hamper his efforts. Yellope is also injured, but he is good in this event, and he was able to receive treatment at the end of day 1, so his injury may not bother him as bad as someone injured in the second day. Pflaggstettler is 6th, but he's also uninjured. The key for him will probably be finding a way to beat Yellope. If he can beat Yellope he will pass him in the standings and might find himself on the Silver or Bronze platform at the end of the day. It will be very interesting to see if an uninjured, but poor 1500 Meter runner can beat a good, but injured 1500 Meter athelte.

Mello and Kappe are also uninjured, but both, like Pflaggstettler will need good runs, and probably will have the same benchmark of beating Yellope as the key to possibly getting a medal.

One last wildcard...Cat is certainly too far back to be a factor (though he will undoubtely get himself out of last place and Palmer will probably finish there), but Elli - even though he's way down the leaderboard - he's uninjured and a pretty good runner in this event. With all the poor and injured runners in front of him, if he posts a great time, he might just slip into the medals.

Should be interesting...

EVENT 10 - 1500 METERS

The runners line up at the starting line, and it is a sight to see. Braces, bandages and wraps appear predominantly on many competitors. Knowing how much they are hurting, I'll be surprised if we don't get at least 1 athlete that decides he's had enough.

The gun sounds and the mass of arms and legs begins its first lap. As expected Cat jumps out to an early lead. Elli, who knows Cat is the man to beat, strategically positioned himself right on Cat's heals and he'll probably attempt to stay with the 1500 Meter specialist the rest of the way. If he can do it, it might mean a place on the medal platform. Gunner and Soldier round out the runners who were quick off the line. The rest are pretty tightly bunched, except for Lesgettham and Nights who trail the big back by a few strides.

Elli and Cat continue to run stride for stride out in front, with Gunner, Soldier and now Pflaggstettler and Palmer are in the next group. Gonzalez has fallen off the pace and he now finds himself only strides ahead of Lesgettham who is still in the back of the pack. An interesting development, Babson who was surprisingly out of the gate in good time and hanging towards the front of the main pack, walked off the track when he crossed the finish line the first time. Apparently the injury is too much and he's had enough.

Palmer despite his injury is barely hanging on to the tales of Solider and Gunner. Pflaggstettler's pace slowed significantly and he now finds himself much closer to 7th place Yellope than to Palmer. Elli has sort of lost contact with Cat, but he's still ahead of the next group by a wide margin. Lesgettham and Gonzalez are in the back. In the main pack - Yellope leads, followed by Mighty and Kappe a few strides back. Mello, who was hanging in the group with Mighty and Kappe has dropped back and is now running stride for stride with Nights.

Cat and Elli are keeping their pace and are closing in on the finish line. The space between Soldier, Gunner and Palmer has tightened up quite a bit. Pflaggstettler has so far been able to hold off Yellope. Kappe has tried to close on Yellope, but he's been unsuccessful. Mighty, who was fighting in that group appears to be cramping up and his speed has dropped way off. In fact he's been passed by Mello and Lesgettham, Gonzalez and Nights are closing rapidly. That cramp may have killed any hopes Mighty had of a medal.

Cat is the first to cross the finish line with a time of 4:16

A few seconds later Elli, who put in a monsterous effort crosses at 4:22.

The next group of 3 runners, Palmer, Gunner, and Soldier are very tightly bunched. They approach the finish line and cross:

Gunner(4:34), Soldier (4:35) and Palmer (4:36).

Pflaggstettler is able to hold off Yellope and he finishes with a time of 4:48. Yellope holds off Kappe with a time of 4:58. Kappe crosses at 5:04.

Gonzalez was attempting to pull away from the rest of his group and he was actually rapidly closing in on Kappe, when he pulled up lame and limped off the track.

Mighty who has been hop-running do to his cramp, has been passed by everyone and now finds himself in last.

The next group to cross the line, crosses simultaneously: Lesgettham, Mello, Nights (5:14).

Mighty comes hopping over the line at 5:24.

INTERESTING OBSERVATIONS

Thanks for the kind words guys. Glad you enjoyed it - I enjoyed doing it. Now on to the observations.

The medal winnners all avoided injury while the next 4 in the standings all finished within 150 points of 3rd and all had an injury to deal with.

The most interesting of those 4 were Nights and Mighty. Nights suffered his injury on the last throw in the javelin, so it hadn't affected any of his other scores, and Mighty got his while running the 1500 so his only affected that one event as well.

Had Nights not taken his last throw in the javelin and suffered his injury he would have gotten an additional 55 points, which would have given him the bronze medal. Mighty suffered an injury late in the event, without that injury he would have gotten another 53 points, only good enough to jump Lesgettham.

Lesgettham and Yellope both did real well, extremely impressive for both because they suffered penalties in 5 and 6 events respectively.

Gunner was extremely dominating. Decathlon isn't really about where you finish, but how well you do in each event - however, finishing at the top of each event will certainly guarantee you a high place on the leaderboard. Gunner's meet when like this:
- Tied for 6th
- Tied for 4th
- 2nd
- 1st
- Tied for 7th
- 3rd

Well done Breeze. I hope this becomes an annual or semi-annual event.

Day 2 took a toll and I wasn't even able to finish. :(

We'll do this again at some point in the future if the interest is there to justify it. I'm going to try and add some more skills into the equation to create more separation within the competitors and I'll probably add another 1 or 2 columns to the creation phase for the same reason.

Thanks again to the 13 that were active throughout the entire dynasty.

Thanks Breeze, it was a fun ride. Next time I'll find a trainer with better injury avoidance.

Breeze.

Loved it... and finishing 3rd is probably about the Max I could hope for with my non-athletic, but willful competitor.

Thanks again!

Regards,
Chas

Hey Mighty - but it was a REAL bad crap. :D

sign up for the baseball dynasty - i think it's going to be fun, and not much for you to do but role play and read.
