I had a Chiefs at Tampa Bay game with a 45 MPH wind ... glancing through some past schedules now, that's the fierciest wind I've seen by about 20 MPH.

While checking out wind speed, I noticed something else that I don't know is a design choice or an oddity: what is your weather condition in retractable roof stadiums?

My retractable roof stadiums appear to have temperature fluctuations from about 45 to 97 degrees, suggesting to me that 45 degrees is the cutoff for closing the roof. One thing though is that there is no wind in retractable roof stadiums.

I suppose that makes sense because the building envelope is closed and only the roof is open. I've never been in a retractable roof stadium, so I don't know if there is wind or not. Anybody?

There was definitely wind you could feel in the stands when I went to a Texans game at Reliant Stadium.

Because of the void of non moving air inside the stadium you will get air that will be sucked into the stadium, so you should still feel a breeze.

The two QB's in this game were 20/30 & 20/35, and only 1/10 kicks was missed (wide left on a 49 yard attempt, 1 50 yd kick made, a combined 7/7 on extra points.) There were also no INT's, and only three fumbles and three sacks...

So, the game basically occurred during a wind that was able to uproot large trees and do considerable building damage; and right on the verge of extensive widespread damage.

Which begs the question, if wind like that doesn't show any obvious signs of effecting the stats, does the wind have any effect at all that we should be looking out for?

Wind does have an effect. I played a game in a 24 mph wind. All the punts with the wind were over 60 yards with one 72 yards.

That's not an effect that you can plan for though. You can't up long FG's, because what if you are against the wind? You can't put them down, because what if you are with the wind? Does wind stop long throws from being accurate?
