<b><u>#22 1962 New York Yankees vs. #11 1978 New York Yankees</b></u>

<p><b><u>Game 1</b></u>
-- Whitey Ford 17-8, 2.90 ERA ('62 Yankees) @ Ron Guidry 25-3,1.74 ERA ('78) . . . In what felt like it could be a pitchers dual from the start Whitey Ford took on "Louisiana Lightning" Ron Guidry. Guidry took the mound in the top of the first and retired the side 1,2,3. In the bottom of the inning Whitey Ford looked to match Gator but after getting Randolph and Rivers out, Reggie Jackson singled followed by a Graig Nettles double which scored Jackson all the way from 1st. 1-0 1978 Yankees after Chambliss grounded out to end the inning. Guidry was on fire hurling a No-No till the top of the 6th when Hector Lopez broke it up. Guidry would go on to allow only one more hit, Ford pitched well; scattering 6 hits over 90 pitches/9 Innings Pitched but in the end the 1978 Yankees took a 1-0 Series Lead with a 1-0 Victory!
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (22) 1962 Yankees 0 @ (11) 1978 Yankees 1
<b>PLAYER OF THE GAME:</b> Ron Guidry 9 IP, 2 Hits, 7 K's (Only 81 Pitches)
<b>SERIES:</b> 1978 Yankees Lead 1-0

<b><u>Game 2</b></u>
-- Ralph Terry 23-12, 3.19 ERA (62 Yankees) @ Ed Figueroa 20-9, 2.99 ERA (78 Yankees) . . . It what could have been another pitchers dual turned into a massacre. The 1978 Yankees Bats came to life scoring 10 Runs on 20 Hits, every hitter but Bucky Dent got a hit! The 1962 Yankees once again struggled only getting 3 Runs on 7 Hits. Graig Nettles was player of the game going 3-4 with a HR, and 3 RBIs. Cliff Johnson also homered off started Ralph Terry who only managed to go 4.2 innings. Figueroa went the distance 9 IP, 3 ER, 5 SO, 1 BB
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (22) 1962 Yankees 3 @ (11) 1978 Yankees 10
<b>PLAYER OF THE GAME:</b> Graig Nettles

<b><u>Game 3</b></u>
-- Game 3: Jim "Catfish" Hunter 12-6, 3.58('78) @ Bill Stafford 14-9, 3.67 ERA ('62) . . . With there back against the wall the 1962 Yankees went with Bill Stafford against Jim Catfish Hunter. Let's just say Stafford delivered! The 1962 Yankees got on the board first with a Mickey Mantle RBI Single followed by an Elston Howard RBI Double. 2-0 1962 Yankees.... Then things got heated. In the bottom of the 3rd Elston Howard was hit by a Hunter pitch. Elston Howard charged the mound!!! The benches cleared and Catfish Hunter/Elston Howard were ejected!! Ken Clay came into pitch for the 1978 Yankees, while Yogi Berra came in to play catcher for the 1962 Yankees. In the bottom of the 7th Tom Tresh drove in Mickey Mantle who had a lead off walk. The big story in the 8th was Bill Stafford had a No-Hitter brewing! He got Chambliss, Muson, and Pinella out in the top of the 8th and was looking strong. Bottom of the 8th Mickey Mantle hit a towering 2 Run Homer making it 5-0 1962 Yankees. In the 9th Stafford has to face Dent, Johnson, Randolph. He gets the 1st two batters but Willie Randolph gets a base hit!! Damn. 8.2 of no hit ball. Stafford strikes out Mickey Rivers to end an eventful Game 3!
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (11) 1978 Yankees 0 @ (22) 1962 Yankees 5
<b>PLAYER OF THE GAME:</b> Mickey Mantle (3-3, HR, 2 BB, 3 RBI) . . My Pick Stafford

<p><b><u>Game 4</b></u>
-- Whitey Ford 17-8, 2.90 ERA ('62 Yankees) @ Ron Guidry 25-3,1.74 ERA ('78) . . . Both pitchers look to extend there Game 1 Performances into Game 4. However, that would not be the case! Ron Guidry would get roughed up by the M&M Boys. Bottom 3 the 1962 Yankees take the lead on a Mantle Double, followed by a Maris single driving him home. 1-0 62 Yankees... Than in the Bottom of the 6th the 1962 Yankees busted it open. Maris, Howard singles started off the rally and Moose Skowron hit a triple driving them both in, followed by Hector Lopez RBI Double, and Whitey Fords RBI Double! 5-0 62 Yankees.. Top 7 Nettles Homered again making it 5-1, but Tom Tresh came right back hitting a 3-Run Homer both Maris & Mantle were on. 8-1 62 Yankees. Guidry was pulled as this game was over.
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (11) 1978 Yankees 2 @ (22) 1962 Yankees 8

<p><b><u>Game 5</b></u>
-- Ralph Terry 23-12, 3.19 ERA (62 Yankees) @ Ed Figueroa 20-9, 2.99 ERA (78 Yankees) . . . The deciding game got off the a fast paced start. Bobby Richardson singled, then Clete Boyer & Mickey Mantle walked. Roger Maris drove in Richardson with an RBI single. The bases were still loaded as Elston Howard grounded into a DP, scoring Boyer. Tom Tresh however hit a triple scoring Howard to complete the 3 run inning. In the bottom of the 1st Mickey Rivers hit a solo shot. 3-1 1962 Yankees... Bottom 2, Chambliss double, Munson single, then Lou Pinella gets a single scoring a run. 3-2 1962 Yankees... Again in the Bottom of the 3rd the 1978 Yankees came back to tie the game with a solo homerun by Nettles who has been a terror to 1962 Pitchers in this series. Top 4, Hector Lopez goes yard for a 2-run shot. 5-3 1962 Yankees. The 1962 Yankees would add another run in the Top of the 7th and Ralph Terry was brilliant the rest of the way allowing only 2 hits in the last 5 innings. The 1962 Yankees come back from 0-2 down to win the series 3-2 to move onto round 2!!

<b>GAME 1</b>
Roger Clemens 20-3, 3.51 ERA ('01) @ Lefty Gomez 21-11, 2.33 ERA ('37) . . . . Game 1 was featured two 20 game winners and it was billed as a dream matchup. Left Gomez and Clemens exchanged scoreless first innings, while the highlight came when Clemens got DiMaggio to fly out, and Gehrig to ground out. The scoring began in the bottom of the second as Myril Hoag got an RBI single. 1-0 1937 Yankees... Top 4 the 2001 Yankees who had yet to get a hit started up. Bernie Williams walked, and Jorge Posada reached on an error by Frankie Crosetti. "Yankee Captain" Derek Jeter got an RBI Single, and Scott Brosius later followed with the same. 2-1 2001 Yankees (Top 4). The 1937 Yanks have already made 2 Errors... Top 5 Paul O'Neill singles off Gomez, Tino Martinez doubles scoring O'Neill 3-1. . A few scoreless innings follow until Jeter knocks in his 2nd Run making it 4-1 in the top of the eighth. Ninth Clemens gives up a double to George Selkirk and Joe Torre decides to bring in Mariano Rivera. He gets Hoag to ground out, advancing Selkirk to third. Tommy Henrich came into pinch hit for the pitcher and drives home Selkirk with a fly out to left making it 4-2. Crosetti gets a single, but Mo fans Red Rolfe to end the game.
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (27) 2001 Yankees 4 @ (6) 1937 Yankees 2
<b>GAME MVP:</b> Lefty Gomez who struck out ten in a losing effort. My pick: Jeter
<b>SERIES:</b> 2001 Yankees Lead 1-0

<b>GAME 2</b>
Mike Mussina 17-11, 3.15 ERA ('01) @ Red Ruffing 20-7, 2.98 ERA ('37) . . Top 4 Bernie Williams, Posada single to start off the inning. Justice drives in Williams with a single. Scott Brousis delivered another hit, followed by a Mussina single. Two more runs as the '01 Yankees took a 3-0 Lead. Bottom 4 Mike Mussina who is not known to concentrate when he gets runs for some reason gives up Singles to DiMaggio & Gehrig. Mussina decides to challenge Bill Dickey and he promptly smashes a 3 Run Homer making the score 3-3 after 4 Full. It took the '01 Yankees till the top of the 6th to score again. Brosius walked, out, Soriano single, O'Neill walk to load the bases. Tino Martinez steps in and flies to shallow left. Willie Randolph kept Brosius at third for Bernie Williams who delivered a two RBI basehit. Posada walks, and Derek Jeter struck again with a basehit scoring a few more. 7-3 '01 Yankees. Red Ruffing was replaced by Ivy Andrews. The pitchers settled down till the bottom of the ninth. The 1937 Yankees looked for some late inning thunder. Roy Johnson pinch hitting for Frank Makosky got a one-out double. Mussina was pulled for Mike Stanton. He quickly got Crosetti to pop up for the second out, than Stanton fell apart. Rolfe single, 1st & 3rd with Joe DiMaggio stepping in. DiMaggio clubs a double down the RF line past O'Neill two runs score making it 7-5!! Torre pulls Stanton for Rivera. What a matchup! Gehrig vs. Rivera!! Who wins this battle? Gehrig! RBI double to right center making it 7-6!! It was up to Bill Dickey who had a HR earlier in the game but Mariano threw a cutter inside, breaking the bat of Dickey who hit a slow dribbler to Tino at 1st to end the game!
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (27) 2001 Yankees 7 @ (6) 1937 Yankees 6
<b>GAME MVP:</b> Joe DiMaggio 4-5, 2 RBI
<b>SERIES:</b> 2001 Yankees Lead 2-0

<b>GAME 3</b>
Spud Chandler 7-4, 2.84 ERA ('37) @ Andy Pettitte 15-10, 3.99 ERA . . . The 1937 will not go away easily! They just dominate Andy Pettitte and 2001 Yankee Pitching with a 15 Run Outburst!! The only run the 2001 Yankees would score would be a Paul O'Neill Solo Shot. Pettitte 4IP,9H,7ER. DiMaggio 4-6,3R, 3RBI, 2 3b, 2b, Gehrig 3-6 2 Triples, Tommy Henrich 3-4 2 HRs in an amazing offensive display.
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (6) 1937 Yankees 15 @ (27) 2001 Yankees 1
<b>GAME MVP:</b> Joe DiMaggio (stats above)
<b>SERIES:</b> 2001 Yankees Lead 2-1

<b>GAME 4</b>
Monty Pearson 9-3, 3.17 ERA ('37) @ Orlando Hernandez 4-7, 4.85 ERA. . . Both teams went with there #4 Starters and both seemed up to the task for the first three innings. Top 4 Tommy Henrich drove in the 1st run of the Game with an RBI Single, in the bottom of the frame Scott Brosius tied it with a RBI single. 1-1... Bottom 7 the 2001 Yankees put the nail into the coffin as Knoblauch walked, Soriano gets hit by a pitch. O'Neill RBI single to RF, Tino Out, Bernie walks, and Posada gets a 2 RBI single to make it 4-1. The '01 Yankees dugout was ready to move on to face the 1962 Yankees as they were 6 outs away. "El Duque" Orlando Hernandez pitched 7 Strong, but in the 8th Lazzeri, single scoring Lou Gehrig makes it 4-2. The bases were walked loaded and Myril Hoag Walked making it 4-3. Tommy Henrich Walked! 4-4... Frankie Corsetti lined out but Red Rolfe got a baseball scoring 2 more! 6-4 '37 Yankees! Orlando Hernandez was then pulled! Torre kept him in too long, and Mike Stanton came in to K DiMaggio to get out #2. However, if you get DiMaggio you probably won't get Gehrig. Gehrig drove in the 6th Run of the inning making it 7-4 '37 Yankees and that would be your ball game. Series will go to a deciding GAME 5! Key to the game was Orlando staying in too long, and walking home the tying runs.
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (6) 1937 Yankees 7 @ (27) 2001 Yankees 4
<b>GAME MVP:</b> Monte Pearson ('37) Win, 9IP, 10 Hits,5 BB, 6K, 140 Pitches

<b>Game 1 </b>
Ron Guidry 11-5, 2.76 Era ('81) @ David Wells 18-4, 3.49 Era ('98) . . . Joe Torre used Shane Spencer as DH in Game 1, and the 81 Yankees are going with Lou Pinella. The scoring got started in the Top of the 2nd as the heavy underdog 1981 Yankees had Slugger Reggie Jackson hit a Solo Homer off of David Wells. The 1998 Yankees answered in the bottom of the 3rd with a Posada HR, and in the Bottom of the 4th with a Tino Martinez Solo Shot. That is all the offense the 1998 Yankees would need as they went on to win a pretty uneventful Game 1.
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (32) 1981 Yankees 1 @ (1) 1998 Yankees 3
<b>GAME MVP:</b> David Wells 9 IP, 8 Hits, 1 ER, 7 SO, 0 BB
<b>SERIES:</b> 1998 Yankees Lead 1-0

<b>Game 2 </b>
Tommy John 9-8, 2.63 Era ('81) @ David Cone 20-7, 3.55 Era ('98) . . . The 1998 Yankees continued there dominance over the 1981 Yankees with an excellent team performance. David Cone pitched a 2 Hit Shutout and the 1998 Yankees scored 4 in the 4th and 3 in the 6th. RBIs for Knobluach, Jeter, O'Neill, Bernie, Tino, and 2 for Shane Spencer. Lou Pinella for the 1981 Yankees is 2-6 in the series, and it looks like a chance will be made in Game 3 to add more power to the lineup. The 81 Yankees Graig Nettles 3K's, Reggie 2Ks, Cerone 2Ks. Only hits by Bobby Murcer.
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (32) 1981 Yankees 0 @ (1) 1998 Yankees 7
<b>GAME MVP:</b> David Cone 9 IP, 9 Ks
<b>SERIES: </b>1998 Yankees Lead 2-0

<b>Game 3</b>
Orlando Hernandez 12-4, 3.13 Era ('98) @ Dave Righetti 8-4, 2.05 Era ('81) . . . Down 0-2 the 1981 Yankees sent Dave Righetti to the mound. At this point in his career 1981, Righetti was a starter, and even pitched a No-hitter in 1983 against the Red Soxs. Righetti had the same type stuff for this game. Orlando Hernandez surrendered a GRAND SLAM to Jerry Mumphrey in the bottom of the 1st, and that was all she wrote. Oscar Gamble replaced Sweet Lou in the lineup but went 0-3, 1 K. Reggie Jackson & Graig Nettles continued to struggle. They are a combined 1-14 with 10 K's thus far, but there team has gotten back into this series.
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (1) 1998 Yankees 0 @ (32) 1981 Yankees 4
<b>GAME MVP:</b> Dave Righetti
<b>SERIES:</b> 1998 Yankees Lead 2-1

<b>Game 4</b>
Andy Pettitte 16-11. 4.24 ERA ('98) @ Rudy May 6-11 4.14 ERA. . . Pretty much what this series has been to this point. A pitchers dual. Andy Pettitte and Rudy May went at it and Rudy May shut down the 98 New York Yankees offense for a second consecutive game. He pitched 8.2, fanning 10, and Goose Gossage came into get the final out in a 1-0 Victory. Nettles & Reggie answered the call today. Nettles 2-3 1 Run Score, Reggie Jackson 1-4 RBI Double. Another 5 Game Series!!
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (1) 1998 Yankees 0 @ (32) 1981 Yankees 1
<b>GAME MVP:</b> Rudy May
<b>SERIES:</b> Tied 2-2

<b>Game 5</b>
Game 1 Ron Guidry 11-5, 2.76 Era ('81) @ David Wells 18-4, 3.49 Era ('98) . . . It was ANOTHER shutout. The 4th Consecutive Shut Out in this series, and probably the most impressive. David Wells pitched a 1 hit shut out. The 1998 Yankees bats finally came to life after 2 horrible games scoring 2 in the 1st, 1 in the 7th, and 2 in the 8th. The story of this series was the pitching! The 1998 Escape to the 2nd Round & become the 1st Championship Team thus far to advance.
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (32) 1981 Yankees 0 @ (1) 1998 Yankees 5
<b>GAME MVP:</b> David Wells

<b>Other Notes/Prediction:</b> Looking at the stats, it seems the 1950 Yankees have a better all around team. Rizzuto, DiMaggio, Berra, Bauer all in the starting lineup has over .300 averages. The 51 Yankees throw out a young rookie named Mickey Mantle, and a fine third baseman in Gil McDougald. Pitching wise you might have to give the nod to the '51 Yankees having two 20-Game Winners, but the difference might by a rookie named Whitey Ford on the 1950 Team. Both teams are Championship teams so this could be another 5-Game Series. I look for the better hitting of the 1950 Team be the deciding factor in this one

<b>Game 1 </b>
Ed Lopat 21-9, 2.91 Era ('51) @ Vic Raschi 21-8, 4.00 Era ('50) . . . Joe DiMaggio('50) led off the scoring hitting a solo homer in the bottom of the first. We would not see anymore scoring till the Top of the 6th as the 1951 Yankees tied it up on a Yogi Berra double play which scored Phil Rizzuto. The bottom of the 6th Joe DiMaggio hit his second homerun for the '50 Yankees, this time it was a 2-Run Shot making it 3-1 1950! The 1951 Yankees got a run in the Top of the 8th on a Yogi Berra walk. The next batter was Hank Bauer who hit a ground ball in the infield, "The Scooter" Phil Rizzuto broke for home and was tagged out!!! Keeping the game at 3-2! Bottom of 8th the 1950 Yankees failed to get an insurance run. Leading to the top of the 9th. Gil McDouglad and Jerry Coleman were retired by Vic Raschi. Johnny Mize walked then Joe Collins came into pinch hit for The Pitcher Ed Lopat, Collins got a single. I would have kept Vic in, but he was replaced by Joe Page, when Phil Rizzuto lined a single scoring Mize from second! 3-3!! Mickey Mantle came up with a chance to take the lead but a young Mantle was no match for Page as he struck out. . . Bottom 9 Bob Kuzava comes into pitch for the 51 Yanks and retires the side. We will get some free baseball!!

Extra Innings: Top 10 -- The 1951 Yankees come to the plate. Berra Single, Bauer K's, DiMaggio hits a FC forcing Berra at 2nd. Gil McDouglad gets a basehit. 1st & 3rd 2 Outs for Jerry Coleman who pops out the third! Still 3-3. Bottom 10, the 1950 Yankees go in order. Top 11 The 1951 Yankees get a lead off triple by Johnny Mize. Bobby Brown pinch-hits for the pitcher and drives in Mize with a basehit. Phil Rizzuto bounces into a DP. Mickey Mantle gets a single, and Yogi hits a Homerun making it 6-3! That was all the 1951 Yankees Would Need!
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (17) 1951 Yankees 6 @ (16) 1950 Yankees 3 (11 Innings)
<b>GAME MVP: </b>Yogi Berra ('51) 2-5, 3 RBIs
<b>SERIES:</b> 1951 Yankees Lead 1-0
OTHER NOTES: Rookie Mickey Mantle has a nice showing 3-5, 1 BB, 2 Ks. Joe D of the 1950 Yankees of course with the 2 Homers.

<b>Game 2 </b>
Allie Reynolds 17-8, 3.05 Era ('51) @ Whitey Ford 9-1, 2.81 Era ('50) . . . The Rookie Whitey Ford had an impressive record coming into this one but he never faced a lineup quite like the 1951 Yankees. They pounded Ford with 2 Runs in the 2nd,3rd, 4th and added 2 more in the 8th on there way to a 8-1 Win over the 1950 Yankees! Rookie Mickey Mantle of the 1951 Yankees went one for five with a 2 Run Homer. Jerry Coleman and Phil Rizzuto for the '51 Squad each had three hits. Allie Reynolds pitches a complete game. The 1950 Yankees were once again led by Joe DiMaggio who had a double, and a triple and the only RBI of the game.
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (17) 1951 Yankees 8 @ (16) 1950 Yankees 1
<b>GAME MVP:</b> Allie Reynolds
<b>SERIES:</b> 1951 Yankees Lead 2-0

<b>Game 3 </b>
Tommy Byrne 15-9, 4.74 Era ('50) @ Tom Morgan 9-3, 3.68 Era ('51) . . . Both teams looked good early on as the first three innings were scoreless. Than in the Top of the 4th Phil Rizzuto scored on a Gene Woodling double. 1-0 1950 Yankees. The 1951 Yankees came right back with two in the bottom of the frame with a pair of singles from McDouglad & Coleman. 2-1 1951 Yankees. Phil Rizzuto refused to let his team die as he led the 1950 Yankees back in the 5th with a RBI single to center. 2-2 . . . Top 6 Hank Bauer puts the '50 Yankees ahead with an RBI single. 3-2 1950 Yankees. Bottom 6 The 1951 Yankees Answer again! Jerry Coleman hit a 2 Run Homer, followed by the 1951 Version of Phil Rizzuto getting a single scoring Johnny Mize. 5-3 1951 Yankees Lead after 6. Top 7, the 1950 Yankees refuse to die on a Gene Woodling single, and DiMaggio RBI single tying the game at 5! We go to the ninth. The 1950 Yankees are retired in order to start the inning. With two runners on in the bottom of the ninth the 1951 Yankees could not put the '50 Yankees away. Two Runners on and Jerry Coleman popped to first. Another Extra Innings Game!

Top 10. Hank Bauer 1 out single for the 1950 Yankees. Jerry Coleman follows with another hit, but than two pop-outs end the 1950 Yankees rally. Bottom 10 Johnny Mize triples for the 1951 Yanks. Joe Collins is intentionally walked. Phil Rizzuto is intentionally walked. They loaded the bases to face? MICKEY MANTLE? Yup, and Mantle...did NOT deliver. He was sent down on strikes. 2 Out! It was up to the '51 Version of Yogi Berra who singled to left! The 1951 Yankees Sweep the 1950 Yankees!!
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (16) 1950 Yankees 5 @ (17) 1951 Yankees 6
<b>GAME MVP:</b> Jerry Coleman 1951 2-4, HR, 3 RBIs

<b>Other Notes/Prediciton:</b> The #2 Seed in this Tournament is the 1927 Yankees, they look to dominate much like they did in 1927 winning the Championship and winning 110 Games, 2nd best in Yankees History! Led my Murderers Row the 1927 have some great hittrs in Combs, Lazzeri, Ruth, Gehrig, and Meusel look for the 1927 Yankees to score some runs. Starting pitching is excellent for both teams. The 1955 Yankees lost a heartbreaker of a Series to The Brooklyn Dodgers in 1955 and will look to advance in this tournament. Led by Mantle, Berra, Skowron, Bauer, Elston Howard and Phil Rizzuto this team looks to give the mighty 1927 Yankees a challenge. The greatest player of all-time Babe Ruth hit 60 Homeruns in 1927, Drove in 164 and hit .356. Lou Gehrig also had one heck of a year hitting .373 and driving in a team high 175 Runs. Will Ruth & Gehrig be able to hit the solid '55 Yankees pitching? Will the '55 Yankees be in awe of the greatness across the diamond? We will see. My pick. The 1927 Yankees should advance.

<b>Game 1 </b>
<i>Whitey Ford 18-7, 2.63 Era ('55) @ Waite Hoyt 22-7, 2.63 Era ('27)</i> . . . After setting down the '55 Yankees in the top of the 1st, the 1927 Yankees came to bat. Whiety Ford went right after Combs and Tony Lazzeri, but when Babe Ruth stepped in Ford walked him. The problem with that is if you walk Ruth you have to face Gehrig, who smashed a RBI double making it 1-0 '27 Yankees. Bottom 4 the 1927 Yankees score another on a Joe Dugan Fielders choice. 2-0 '27 Yankees. In the top of the 7th, the 1955 Yankees get a 1 out double from Moose Skowron, and single from Hank Bauer. Elston Howard than tied it up with his 2nd triple of the game, Waite Hoyt went onto make an error allowing another run to score. 3-2 '55 Yankees Lead! For the first 6 innings they looked star struck but they show some life! Bottom 8, the 1927 Yankees score just like they did in the 1st. Ruth Walk, Gehrig Double. 3-3! In the ninth both lineups get shut down. We go to the 10th where in the bottom of the frame Tony Lazzeri gets a RBI single to win the game!
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (35) 1955 Yankees 3 @ (2) 1927 Yankees 4 (10 Innings)
<b>Game MVP:</b> Waite Hoyt 10IP, 9 Hits, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 Ks MY PICK: Lou Gehrig 2-4, 2 RBIs.. Ruth was also important with those two walks.

<b>Game 2 </b>
<i>Tommy Byrne 16-5, 3.15 Era ('55) @ Herb Pennock 19-8, 3.00 Era ('27)</i> . . . Top 1 The 1955 Yankees jumped out to the early lead on a Mickey Mantle groundout. 1-0 1955 Yankees, however the '27 Yankees came right back with a Babe Ruth RBI Double scoring Tony Lazzeri, and a Bob Meusel double scoring Ruth making it 2-1 '27 Yankees after One. Bottom 4 now, and the 1927 keep adding it on. Bob Meusel hits a solo shot to lead off the inning, Earle Combs added an RBI Single to make it 4-1 1927 Yankees. Top 5, The 1955 Yankees made a come back. A few hits, and a misplayed ball by 1927 Thirdbaseman Joe Dugan allowed Gil McDouglad to get a 2 out 2 RBI Single making it 4-3!! However, Babe Ruth has been getting on base at an astounding rate in this series. He once again got a hit, and later scored on a Joe Dugan Single on the bottom of the 5th to make it 5-3 1927 Yankees. Not to be outdone, the 1955 Yankees came right back in the top of the 6th. Bill Skowron got a single, Hank Bauer popped out than Elston Howard took Herb Pennock YARD! 2 Run Shot! 5-5!! The 1955 Yankees are really challenging the heavy favorites. Top 7, The 1955 Yankees get a huge lift by a Triple from Phil Rizzuto! The 1955 Dugout was buzzing after Gil McDouglad hit a sacrifice fly to center scoring Rizzuto making it 6-5 '55 Yankees! The 1955 Yankees look to get a road win, but once again fell apart in the late innings. Bottom 8, Mark Koenig single, Joe Dugan fly out, Pat Collins walk. Ben Paschal walks pinch hitting for Herb Pennock! Bases loaded one out. Earle Combs single scores a run 6-6! Tony Lazzeri bases loaded walk scores the 7th & Eventual winning run for the mighty 1927 Yankees.

<b>Game 3 </b>

The two pervious come from behind wins by the 1927 Yankees took everything out of the 1955 Yanks. Game 3 was a 5-0 Win for the #2 Seed as they will move on. The game was scoreless till the 7th when Babe Ruth drove in the first two runs. Babe Ruth also got his 3rd RBI in the Top of the 9th. The 1955 Yankees lineup was shut down by Urban Shocker. 9 IP, 3 Hits, 6 Ks. The 1927 Yankees look like the early favorites to win it all.

<b>Other Notes/Prediction:</b> The #15 Seed 1943 Yankees will clash against the #18 Seed 1999 New York Yankees. The winner, has a nice task of facing the 1927 Yankees in the next round. Looking at the pitching you have to give the edge to the 1943 Team, and looking at lineups the 1999 Yankees come out on top. Lead by Derek Jeter .349 Avg and Bernie Williams .342 Avg the 1999 Yankees lineup seems more intimidating. Game 1 Starter Spud Chandler's 1.64 Era looks to continue his rule over every batter he faces. They say good pitching beats good hitting. I'm taking the 1943 Yankees in this series in either 4 or 5 Games.

A 12-2 spanking of the 1999 Yankees. 17 Hits by the 1943 Yankees led by Bill Dickey who went 4-5, HR, 2B, 4 RBIs, Charlie Keller went 2-4, with 4 RBIs to also lead the 1943 Yankees to victory. David Cone went 2 IP, 8 Hits, 7 Runs, 7 Earned, Mike Stanton also pitched giving up 9 Hits and 5 Runs. Spud Chander went 8 Strong allowing 7 Hits, Walking 2, and Striking out 4.
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (18) 1999 Yankees 2 @ (15) 1943 Yankees 12
<b>GAME MVP:</b> Bill Dickey '43 (Stats Above)
<b>SERIES:</b> 1943 Yankees Lead 1-0

<b>Game 2 </b>
<i>Orlando Hernandez 17-9, 4.12 Era ('99) @ Tiny Bonham 15-8, 2.27 Era ('43) </i>. . . The 1943 Yankees are on a mission. They totally blew out the 1999 Yankees again in a 6-1 Victory. The only run scored by the 1999 Team was a 2nd Inning Solo Shot by Bernie Williams. Bill Dickey continued his tear going 2-2, 2 BB, 2R, 2 RBIs. Charlie Keller had another 2 RBIs and Joe Grodan smashed a HR to lead the 1943 Yankees to a 2-0 Series Lead!
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (18) 1999 Yankees 1 @ (15) 1943 Yankees 6
<b>GAME MVP:</b> Tiny Bonham '43 SP, 9 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K
<b>SERIES:</b> 1943 Yankees Lead 2-0

<b>Game 3 </b>
<i>Butch Wensloff 13-11, 2.54 Era ('43) @ Roger Clemens 14-10, 4.60 Era ('99)</i> . . . Roger Clemens had won 2 CY Young Awards in 1997, and 1998 for the Toronto Blues Jays in 1999 he had less than spectacular year as you can see by his record and ERA. In this game with his 1999 Yankees facing elimination "The Rocket" needed to pitch like he had in previous years! He only allowed one run in the 1st, the 1999 Yankees tied it in the Bottom of the 2nd with a Chili Davis Single scoring Bernie Williams. Roger Clemens settled down striking fear into batter after batter getting 4 K's in the next two innings. However, Roger tried to be too much of an intimidator as he threw a pitch inside on Frankie Crosetti and Crosetti was not Mike Piazza, he charged the mound and tackled the Rocket!! Both Corsetti & Roger were ejected. In the 6th after things settled down Bernie Williams and Tino Martinez drove in a run apiece to make it 3-1, and in the Bottom of the 7th Scott Brosius put the 1943 Yankees down for good with a solo shot making it 4-1. Mike Stanton pitched well in relief of Clemens going 5.2, only giving up 2 Hits and Fanning 4.
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (15) 1943 Yankees 1 @ (18) 1999 Yankees 4
<b>GAME MVP:</b> Mike Stanton
<b>SERIES:</b> 1943 Yankees Lead 2-1

<b>Game 4 </b>
<i>Hank Borowy 14-9, 2.82 Era ('43) @ Andy Pettitte 14-11, 4.70 Era ('99) .</i> . . Andy Pettitte much like his best friend Roger Clemens struggled during the 1999 Season, not posting his best numbers. Hank Borowy's record was OK at 14-9 but his ERA was outstanding at 2.82. Andy Pettitte was up to the task of keeping his 1999 Yankees alive going 8.1, 6 Hits, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 SO getting the win. Borowy pitched OK but could not deal with Bernie Williams. Williams got him in the 1st with an RBI Single, and than in the 3rd with a 3 Run INSIDE THE PARK Homerun! The 1999 Yankees Win, and force a Game 5. Key Stat: Joe Gordan 7 LOB
<b>FINAL SCORE: </b>(15) 1943 Yankees 1 @ (18) 1999 Yankees 4
<b>GAME MVP:</b> Bernie Williams 2-4, 4 RBI
<b>SERIES:</b> TIED 2-2

<b>Game 5 </b>
<i>David Cone 12-9, 3.44 Era ('99) @ Spud Chandler 20-4, 1.64 Era ('43) </i>. . . I said at the start good pitching would beat good hitting. The 1999 Yankees finally got good pitching in Games 3 & 4 after the 1943 Yankees laid the smackdown on Cone & Hernandez in Games 1 & 2. Spud Chandler pitched a gem of a game going the distance. David Cone folded under the pressure giving up a Grand Slam Homerun to Bill Dickey in the process. It's over. The 1943 Yankees will meet the 1927 Yankees after a Game 5 Shutout win!
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (18) 1999 Yankees 0 @ (15) 1943 Yankees 5
<b>GAME MVP:</b> Spud Chandler 9 IP, 4 Hits, 8 Ks CG, Shutout
<b>SERIES:</b> 1943 Yankees WIN 3-2
<b><u>SERIES MVP:</b></u> Bill Dickey 10 for 16, 2 HR, 10 RBI, 4 R, 4 BB

<b>Other Notes/Prediction:</b> This should be an interesting matchup. The 1928 Yankees won the 1928 World Series sweeping the St. Louis Cardinals. The 1996 Yankees won a thrilling 6-Game Series in the World Series over the Atlanta Braves, giving NY there first world title since 1978. The 1928 Team is much like the 1927 Yankees, just with lower stat totals. The 1996 Yankees team has a strong bullpen, and just those intangibles that you need to win. Miller Huggins leads the 1928 Yankees. He won 3 World Series managing the Yankees while leading them to 6. Joe Torre leads the 1996 Yankees. He has won 4 World Titles in 5 Trips to the Fall Classic. Who will win this one? I think it's too close to call. 5 Game Series, with the keys being Babe Ruth/Lou Gehrig for the '28 Yankees, and the Bullpen for the 1996 Yankees.

<b>Game 1 </b>
<i>Andy Pettitte 21-8, 3.87 Era ('96) @ Waite Hoyt 23-7, 3.36 Era ('28)</i> . . . The Stadium was full of energy as these two teams took the field. Many experts called for a 5 Game Series, and who could argue as two of the best Yankees teams of all time are going at it for a chance to move onto the 2nd Round! The 1996 Yankees got on the board first. Wade Boggs led off the Game with a single, followed by a Jeter single. Paul O'Neill grounded into a double play which scored Boggs from 3rd. 1-0 1996 Yankees. The 1928 Yankees came to the plate in the Bottom of the Inning. Pettitte K's Lazzeri, gets Combs to fly out. In steps "The Babe". Babe Ruth took a 3-0 Pitch and crushed a Solo Shot to Center Field! 1-1.. Babe Ruth tipped his hat to Andy Pettitte as he went to the bench. After a scoreless second Jeter gets an RBI Basehit in the Top of the 3rd making it 2-1 1996 Yankees! The 1928 Yankees come right back in the bottom of the frame with 2 Outs Earle Combs walk, Babe Ruth Walk, Lou Gehrig RBI single scoring Combs! We are tied at 2! We get some clutch pitching till the 8th. The 1996 Yankees come to bat. Girardi K's, Pettitte singles, Wade Boggs Singles. Derek Jeter steps in and gets a hit scoring Pettite! 3-2, Paul O'Neill follows with another RBI Single 4-2 1996 Yankees!

Much like the older Yankee teams, the 1928 Yankees come back! Bottom 8th leading off Babe Ruth! Pettitte apparently did not learn his lesson, and gave Ruth a hanging breaking ball which Ruth crushed into the upper deck in right! 4-3. Lou Gehrig follows with a single. After a Meusel K, Koenig gets a single. Joe Dugan drives in the tying run! 4-4!!! Pettitte gets Durocher to line out, but cannot get out of the inning. Pitcher Waite Hoyt gets a basehit to left scoring another run 5-4 '28 Yankees! . . Top 9 last licks for the 1996 Yankees. Tim Raines leads off with a single but he would be stranded! 1928 Yankees win a close game in Game 1!
<b>FINAL SCORE: </b>(25) 1996 Yankees 4 @ (8) 1928 Yankees 5
<b>GAME MVP:</b> Babe Ruth 2-3, 2 HRs, 2 RBIs, 1 BB
<b>SERIES:</b> 1928 Yankees Lead 1-0

<b>Game 2 </b>
<i>Jimmy Key 12-11, 4.68 Era ('96) @ George Pipgras 24-13, 3.38 Era ('28)</i> . . . Jimmy Key who pitched Game 6 for the 1996 Yankees in the 1996 World Series looked to have his team bounce back in Game 2. He would go up against 24 Game Winner George Pipgras! The 1996 Yankees got off to a flying start! Boggs Single, 2 Outs, Bernie Williams Single, Tino Walks. Bases juiced and in steps Tim Raines. The pitch.. SMASHED, it is HIGH, it is FAR, it is GONE!! Grand Slam!! 4-0 '96 Yankees! Key looks good through 3 only allowing 1 hit. In the Top of the 4th. Girardi single, Key out, Boggs single, Jeter single scoring Girardi! 5-0. O'Neill Single and the 1996 Yankees lead 6-0! Wow. Bottom 4, Ruth Walks. Gehrig pops out. Meusel walk, Koenig single. Basesloaded 1 Out. Joe Dugan 2 RBi Single! 6-2. Myles Thomas adds another. 6-3 . . . Top 6, 1 Out O'Neill single, Bernie doubles scoring O'Neill from first. 7-3, Tim Raines adds another hit 8-3 and the 1996 Yankees are pumped up. Bottom 6 1928 Yankees get one back on a Dugan single. 8-4 Top 8 the 1996 Yankees have a Chance to put the game away bases loaded 1 out. Tim Raines pops out, and Mariano Duncan Ks. Here comes the 1928 Yankees. O'Neill error allows Koenig to reach with one out. Dugan walks. Durocher single loads em up. 2 Out Now, bases still loaded. Tony Lazzeri smacks one down the left field line!! 1 Run will score, 2 Runs will score, 3 RUNS will score! 8-7 on the Lazzeri Double! Earle Combs smashes one up the middle but Duncan makes up for his K making a nice play robbing Combs of a hit! 8-7... Top 9 The 1996 Yankees get an insurance run on an O'Neill Double! 9-7.. Last chance for the 1928 Yankees. Ruth, Gehrig, and Meusel due up. In comes John Wetteland. Wetteland throws heat, and Ruth can't catch up! Strike out! 1 Down. Lou Gehrig comes up and lines out! Wetteland goes 3-2 on Meusel and HE STRIKES HIM OUT! The 1996 Yankees steal Game 2!
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (25) 1996 Yankees 9 @ (8) 1928 Yankees 7
<b>GAME MVP:</b> Tim Raines 3 For 5 with 5 RBIs (Grand Slam HR)
<b>SERIES:</b> SERIES TIED 1-1

<b>Game 3 </b>
<i>Herb Pennock 17-6, 2.56 Era ('28) @ David Cone 7-2, 2.88 Era ('96)</i> . . . Pivotal Game 3 here as this is the first series we've had that's been 1-1 after 2 Games. Scoreless till the Bottom of the 4th when Bernie Williams puts the 1996 Yankees on the board with an RBI Double scoring Paul O'Neill. 1-0. The 1928 Yankees luck out in the bottom of the 5th as they get out of a Basesloaded jam. Top 6, Top of the order for the 1928 Yankees. Lazzeri Single, Combs Strikes Out, Ruth walked, Gehrig Walk. Bob Meusel basehit scores 2! 2-1 1928 Yankees. You can't pitch around Ruth & Gehrig so much as other guys will hurt you in this lineup. Oh well... Bernie Williams Walks in the Bottom of the 6th and Tino Martinez goes shopping at the Gap in Right Center 2-2. Cecil Fielder who missed the 1st two games with no DH, comes up and puts his '96 Yankees ahead 3-2 on a single scoring Martinez from 2nd. 3-2 1996 Yankees after 6. Top 8, Earle Combs single, they go after Ruth this time and he smacks one into right for a basehit scoring Combs. 3-3, The 1928 Yankees would have 2nd & 3rd with 1 Out but could not do anymore damage.

To the 9th we go. Top 9: Leo Durocher leads off with a single. 1 Out. Tony Lazzeri walks. David Cone is pulled but gets a standing ovation for his job against a tuff lineup. John Wetteland comes in first pitch to Earle Combs is hit DEEP to right, it is HIGH, It is FAR, it is ... CAUGHT! Durocher tags, O'Neill comes up throwing to third no play! Man on 3rd, 2 Outs for The Babe!! Wetteland battles him again like in Game 2, and once again the Sultan of Swat goes down on strikes! Still 3-3... Bottom 9, Raines/Boggs/Jeter all fly out. Top 10 Gehrig walk. Bob Meusel hits one past Tino at 1st!! Gehrig goes to 3rd as the ball bounces right to O'Neill holding Gehrig at third. 1st & 3rd No Outs. Mark Koenig smashes another past Tino! Gehrig will score, here comes Meusel! The throw, the play at the plate! GOT HIM!! That keeps the 1928 Yankees up 4-3. Bottom 10, O'Neill single. Bernie steps in, and grounds into a double play!! Tino Martinez flies out and that's your ball game!
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (8) 1928 Yankees 4 @ (25) 1996 Yankees 3 (10 Innings)
<b>GAME MVP:</b> Herb Pennock 10 IP, 10 Hits, 3 ER, 1 W, 3 Ks . . My Pick Meusel 2-4, 2 RBIs
<b>SERIES:</b> 1928 Yankees Lead 2-1

Well, I'm not a baseball fan, much less a NY Yankees fan.......but I'm reading. The only thing I'd ask is that once a series ends, post an updated bracket so we know who's advanced. But that's just me........

I'm rooting for a pre-1940's team to win. Why? Who can tell.......

Getting back into this . . . 1996 vs. 1928 Continued...

<b>Game 4</b>
<i>Hank Johnson 14-9, 4.30 ERA ('28) @ Kenny Rogers 12-8, 4.68 ERA ('96) . . .</i> Kenny Rogers vs. Hank Johnson is your matchup. Rogers looked good for the first few batters before he surrendered a solo shot to Mark Koenig making it 1-0 '28 Yankees. Hank Johnson shut down the 1996 Yankees till the Bottom of the 3rd. Joe Girardi lead off single, followed by a Tim Raines Double scoring Girardi from 1st. Wade Boggs single makes it 2-1, Boggs also scored later in the inning making it 3-1 '96 Yankees. The 1928 Yankees came right back in the 4th. Lou Gehrig 1 out single, Meusel single, and Mark Koenig knocks them in with an 2 RBI Double! 3-3 . . Bottom 4, Cecil Fielder gets a free steak for hitting a solo shot making it 4-3. Who knew? The 1928 Yankees came right back on a Joe Dugan RBI Double scoring Mark Koenig in the Top of the 6th. 4-4 Game! We stay that way till the bottom of the 7th when Fielder reached on an error, Duncan singles, Out. Wade Boggs drives in a two runs on a single, and Jeter drives in Boggs with a Double making it 7-4 1996 Yankees. That was all Kenny Rogers would need he did an excellent job holding Ruth & Gehrig to 1-8 Combined. Good game for Mark Koenig who went 2-3, 3 RBIs. We will go to a Game 5 in this back-and-fourth battle!
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (8) 1928 Yankees 4 @ (25) 1996 Yankees 7
<b>GAME MVP:</b> Mark Koenig '28 Yankees... My Pick Wade Boggs 2-4,3 RBIs
<b>SERIES:</b> SERIES TIED 2-2

<b>Game 5</b>
<i>Andy Pettitte 21-8, 3.87 Era ('96) @ Waite Hoyt 23-7, 3.36 Era ('28) . . .</i> Game 5 of what has been an exciting series. This will be a rematch of Game 1 where the 1928 Yankees won 5-4 on two Homers by The Babe. Both pitchers started out strong.; not allowing any hits till the top of the 4th when the 1996 Yankees threatened with Runners on First & Third. Tino Martinez flied deep to right to the warning track which is 314 Ft, his fly ball went about 312. Andy Pettitte was having a perfect outing until the Bottom of the 5th. Lou Gehrig started things off with a triple. Bob Meusel follows with a double making it 1-0! Mark Koenig stepped in and hit a dribbler to Pettitte which he booted. Joe Dugan got walked to load the bases. Leo Durocher lines out, bases still juiced for the pitcher Waite Hoyt who smashed a line shot to center! Bernie Williams misplays it and it goes over his head! 1 Run Scores, 2 Runs Score! 3-0 1928 Yankees! Tony Lazzeri then smashes one to short which JETER MISPLAYS!! 3 Errors in one inning and another run scores! 4-0 1928 Yankees! That would be all they would get that inning. The 1996 Yankees claw back in the top of the 6th on a Jeter RBI Single making it 4-1! Top 8 we go. Wade Boggs leads it off with a single. Jeter Singles. O'Neill & Bernie fly out. Tino Martinez walks to load the bases! Tim "Rock" Raines steps in and is HIT BY A PITCH!! Making it 4-2! The 1996 Yankees are rallying here! Can they do it? Can Mariano Duncan get a clutch hit!? The Answer, in a word, NO! Duncan is set down on strikes and that's as close as it would get! The 1928 Yankees will advance to play the winner of the 1941 vs. 1958 Yankees! The errors were the downfall of the 1996 Team.
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (25) 1996 Yankees 2 @ (8) 1928 Yankees 4
<b>GAME MVP:</b> Waite Hoyt 9IP, 8 Hits, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 Ks, 1 Big Hit
<b>SERIES:</b> 1928 Yankees Win 3-2!
<b>SERIES MVP:</b> Waite Hoyt 2 Good Outings on the mound, and some key hits when his team needed them.

<b>Other Notes/Prediction:</b> The 1958 Yankees will look to upset the 1941 Yankees. The '58 Yanks, won the World Series 4 Games to 3 over the Milwaukee Braves led by Series MVP Bob Turley who will Start Game 1 of this Best of 5 Series. The 1958 Yankees are managed by the great Casey Stengel who will go up against 1941 Yankees Manager Joe McCarthy! McCarthy will lead a talented team which went 101-53 during the 1941 Regular Season, and beat The Brooklyn Dodgers 4-1 in the World Series. Both teams have solid starting pitching and solid lineups from top to bottom. I think this series will be decided by how far Mickey Mantle can take the 1958 Team, and how far Joe DiMaggio can take the 1941 Team! Looking at it the 1941 Yankees might have a better supporting cast, that's why I'm giving them the nod in 4 Games!

<b>Game 1 </b>
<i>Bob Turley 21-7, 2.97 Era ('58) @ Red Ruffing 15-6, 3.54 Era ('41) . . .</i> The 1958 Yankees looked to laugh at my prediction as they scored in the top of the first on a Yogi Berra Single. They than added two more runs in the top of the second on an Elston Howard single followed by a Hank Bauer 2-Run Homer! 3-0 1958 Yankees! Bob Turley works 5 no-hit innings, but in the Bottom of the 6th he starts walking the entire 1941 Team and pays for it. He walked in 2 runs, and gave up an RBI Single to Joe DiMaggio to tie the Game at 3. The game stayed tied till the Ninth! The 1958 Yankees came to the plate. Andy Carey lead things off with a double. McCarthy quickly pulled Ruffing in favor of Johnny Murphy. Stengel countered by pinch hitting Enos Slaughter for Bob Turley. Slaughter made Stengel look good with a single to right! 1st & 3rd No Outs! Gil McDouglad K's. 1 Down. Norm Siebern grounds out. 2 Down. Slaughter does advance to 2nd on the play! And in steps Mickey Mantle! After fouling a few pitches off he bloops one into left and it's caught! The 1941 Yankees escape a scare! Bottom Nine we go. Stengle brings in Ryne Duren to pitch. Johnny Strum grounds out, Bubby Roasar pinch hits for The pitcher Murphy. Roasar singles. Phil Rizzuto makes the second out with a weak liner to the SS. Red Rolfe walks. 1st & 2nd, 2 Out in Steps Charlie Keller who was 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K. The first pitch he sees is skied to death valley in left center! It is HIGH, IT IS FAR, MICKEY MANTLE RACES OVER JUMPS NEAR THE WALL, IT IS. . . CAUGHT!? NO, HOMERUN!!! Carlie Keller has won the Game with a Game Winning Walk Off 3-Run Homer!
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (24) 1958 Yankees 3 @ (9) 1941 Yankees 6
<b>GAME MVP:</b> Charlie Keller 1-4, 1 BB, HR, 3 RBIs, GW Homer
<b>SERIES: </b> 1941 Yankees Lead 1-0

<b>Game 2 </b>
<i>Whitey Ford 14-7, 2.01 Era ('58) @ Lefty Gomez 15-5, 3.74 Era ('41) . . .</i> After a heartbreaking loss in Game 1 The 1958 Yankees needed to take the momentum back in Game 2. They looked to do it in the 1st Inning. They loaded them up with 2 outs for Bill "Moose" Skowron but he could not get the job done as he struck out. The game stayed scoreless till the Bottom of the 4th as the 1941 Yankees got on the board with a Joe Gordon 3 Run Homerun! Six innings of no-hit ball by Lefty Gomez went to the wayside as in The Top of the 7th the 1958 Team tied the score on singles by Skowron (2 RBI) and Howard 1 RBI. Those would be the only two hits the 1958 Team would get, and the 1941 Team got RBI Singles from Rizzuto in the 7th, and one from Tommy Heinch in the 8th and they won the Game 5-3 to take a commanding 2-0 Lead!
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (24) 1958 Yankees 3 @ (9) 1941 Yankees 5
<b>GAME MVP:</b> Lefty Gomez 9 IP, 2 Hits, 3 Runs, 13 Strikeouts WOW!
<b>SERIES:</b> 1941 Yankees Lead 2-0

<b>Game 3 </b>
<i>Spud Chandler 10-4, 3.19 Era ('41) @ Don Larsen 9-6, 3.07 Era ('58) . . .</i> Well, the 1958 Yankees had nothing left. They got shutout in Game 3 with a final score of 8-0. Spud Chandler got the complete game win as all he needed was a 3 RBI triple from Phil Rizzuto in the 3rd to get the job done
<b>FINAL SCORE: </b>(9) 1941 Yankees 8 @ (24) 1958 Yankees 0
<b>GAME MVP:</b> Spud Chandler & Phil Rizzuto
<b>SERIES: </b>1941 Yankees WIN 3-0 !
<b>SERIES MVP:</b> Charlie Keller 3 for 10, 1 HR (GW in Game 1), 3 RBI, 3 Runs, 4 BB, 1 SB

<b>Other Notes/Prediction:</b> The 1936 Yankees the 7th Ranked Team in our Tournament are stacked in both the pitching and hitting departments. Led by the potent lineup of Crosetti, Rolfe, DiMaggio, Gehrig, Dickey, Selkirk, Lazzeri, and Powell the 1936 Yankees could crush 2000 New York Yankees pitching which does not look all that strong other than possibly Andy Pettitte. The 1936 Yankees under Joe McCarthy won 102 Games and the World Series 4-2 over the New York Baseball Giants. The 2000 Yankees have a strong bullpen which could play a factor in this series. The 2000 Team led by Manager Joe Torre was 87-74, and defeated the cross town rival New York Mets 4-1 in the World/Subway Series in 2000. The midseason trade for David Justice played a major role for the 2000 team, and they will need him to step it up big time, plus get the usual production from O'Neill, Bernie, Tino to win. I really don't see that happening. My Take. . . 1936 Yankees Should Sweep!

<b>Game 1 </b>
<i>Andy Pettitte 19-9, 4.35 ERA ('00) @ Monte Pearson 19-7, 3.71 ERA ('36) . . . .</i> Top of the 1st with 2 Outs, Paul O'Neill doubles, followed by David Justice who doubles to right center making it 1-0, 2000 Yankees! Both pitchers had it working from this point on. We go until the 9th as it's 1-0, Pettite 8 IP, 4 Hits, 0 Runs. Pearson 8 IP, 4 Hits, 1 Run. Top 9 the 2000 Yankees look for some insurance for Pettitte or maybe even Rivera depending on what Torre wants to do. Posada and Tino Walk. Brosius flies to right by Jake Powell drops the ball!! Bases loaded for Andy Pettitte! Torre decides to keep him in and Pettitte K's. Knoblauch steps in and drills one into center! Posada scores! 2-0! Jeter steps in, and works a walk! 3-0 2000 Yankees! Bases Still loaded but O'Neill pops out, and Justice strikes out! Bottom 9 Rolfe, DiMaggio, Gehrig due up! Rolfe flies out. The Yankee Clipper Joe DiMaggio steps in and rips a double down the left field line! Torre has seen enough. In comes Mariano Rivera. Rivera vs. Gehrig and Gehrig lines out! 2 outs! Bill Dickey steps in and smashes a Rivera fastball past Knoblauch into right; Basehit; DiMaggio Scores! 3-1. George Selkirk steps in but he pops out! The 2000 Yankees steal Game 1!
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (26) 2000 Yankees 3 @ (7) 1936 Yankees 1
<b>MVP:</b> Pettitte
<b>Series:</b> 2000 Yankees Lead 1-0

<b>Game 2 </b>
Roger Clemens 13-8, 3.70 ERA ('00) @ Red Ruffing 20-12, 3.85 ERA ('36) . . After a shocking defeat in Game 1, the 1936 Yankees took on Roger Clemens in Game 2, and The Rocket never took off today. 1936 Yankees scored one in the first, two in the fourth and put up an 8 spot in the 6th. They won this game easily 14-3 on 14 hits, couple of homers from Selkirk, J. Powell.
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (26) 2000 Yankees 3 @ (7) 1936 Yankees 14
<b>MVP:</b> Powell
<b>SERIES:</b> Tied 1-1

<b>Game 3 </b>
<i>Bump Hadley 14-4, 4.35 ERA ('36) @ David Cone 4-14, 6.91 ERA </i>. . . Looking at this matchup we could have a lot of runs scored. Bottom 2 The 2000 Yankees get on the board on a Tino Martinez RBI Single. Top 3, the 1936 Yanks answer with a Lou Gehrig RBI Double! 1-1... Bottom 3, here come the 2000 Yankees. Justice RBI Single makes it 2-1, and Bernie Williams knocks a 2 Run Homer to make it 4-1! Bump Hadley would be replaced by Jumbo Brown. Top 4 the 1936 Yankees chip away on a Hoag RBI Single. Bottom 4, the 2000 Yankees once again score on a Jeter Single scoring Chuck Knoblauch 5-2 2000 Yankees. Top 5 in this back-and-fourth battle the 1936 Yankees get patient. DiMaggio & Gehrig work walks, and George Selkirk drives them in with a 2 out Triple!! 5-4, 2000 Yankees. Jeff Nelson would come in for Cone after that and get Lazzeri to fly out. In a battle of the Bullpens, the 2000 Yankees should win everytime and this was no different. Jeff Nelson finished the game with 4 1/3 Shutout Innings only allowing 2 hits. The 2000 Yankees also added three more runs to win 8-4!
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (7) 1936 Yankees 4 @ (26) 2000 Yankees 8
<b>MVP:</b> Jeff Nelson
<b>SERIES: </b>2000 Yankees Lead 2-1

<b>Game 4</b>
<i>Lefty Gomez @ Orlando Hernandez</i> . . . With Elimination facing them in Game 4, the 1936 Yankees came out swinging. Frank Crosetti led things off with a Double, followed by a Red Rolfe RBI Single making it 1-0. Later in the inning George Selkirk adds on another run making it 2-0, 1936 Yankees!! Gomez sets the 2000 Yankees down in the bottom of the frame. El Duque would regain his composure after getting smacked around in the first and pitched a few solid innings. His teammates gave him the opportunity to stay in the game on a Tino Martinez RBI Single in the 2nd. In the 3rd, a key play. Knobby on 2nd, Jeter on first. Gomez faces Paul O'Neill. The pitch, O'Neill laces one into the left centerfield gap! Knobby will score! DiMaggio grabs the ball in center! Jeter is being waived in by Willie Randolph! The relay throw is taken by Crosetti at short! He fires home! We have a play at the plate! The slide, the tag, he is..... OUT!! Jeter gets thrown out by his counterpart at short. Justice strikes out to end the inning. Score Tied 2-2! The 1936 Yankees would not be defeated easily in this series. They got to El Duque again in the top of the 5th. Gehrig RBI single, and Dickey RBI Double makes it 4-2. Jeff Nelson would replace Hernandez after this inning. He kept them in it but Lefty Gomez shut down the 2000 Yankees. The 1936 Yankees added two more in the Top of the 8th. The 2000 Yankees chipped away but too little too late. 1936 Yankees force a Game 5 at the Old Yankee Stadium!!
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (7) 1936 Yankees 6 @ (26) 2000 Yankees 4
<b>MVP:</b> Lefty Gomez
<b>SERIES:</b> TIED 2-2

<b>Game 5 </b>
<i>Andy Pettitte 19-9, 4.35 ERA ('00) @ Monte Pearson 19-7, 3.71 ERA ('36) </i>. . . . Andy Pettitte dominated in Game 1 to help the Yankees to an upset win. Monte Pearson also pitched well, but got the loss. The 1936 Yankees and 2000 Yankees are tied at 2 Games Apiece! The winner moves on, to face the winner of 1977 vs. 1952. First inning, pitchers dominated. Bottom 2, Selkirk one out single, Lazzeri Single, another out is made. 2 down and Pettitte looks to get out of trouble! Pearson basehit to center! 1 run will score! 1-0 1936 Yankees. Rolfe single, another two runs score and it's 3-0! DiMaggio steps in and rips an RBI single into left 4-0! The 1936 Yankees jump out to a big lead!

Pearson is dominating the 2000 Yankees till the Top of the 5th as the '00 Yankees get some 2 out magic! Tino Martinez doubles, and Scott Brosius sends one into left, this ball is way out of here about 10 rows back! HOMERUN! 4-2!!

Top 6 now, Jeter & O'Neill have gotten on with singles. 2 Outs. Bernie Williams steps in and smashes one up the middle! It gets by a diving Crosetti and into center! 4-3, the 2000 Yankees are getting back into this thing! The pitchers take over setting down each lineup in order till the 8th.

Top 8 some more 2 out magic for the 2000 Yankees! O'Neill Single! David Justice steps in and rockets one into right center and it bounces between outfielders and into the stands for a ground rule double! 2nd & 3rd; 2 Outs! Bernie Williams up again and this time he hits one into right! O'Neill scores, he comes the throw on Justice but he is in there! 5-4 2000 Yankees! Bernie high-fives Lee Mazzelli at first! Wow! Posada steps in and he sends one into left-center! It rolls all the way to the wall! Bernie will motor home and make it 6-4 on the Posada double! We might have a huge upset on our hands!

Or will we? Bottom 8, Gehrig leads off with a walk from Jeff Nelson. Dickey walks, Selkirk walks! Bases loaded no one out! Torre keeps Nelson in there to save Rivera for the Ninth! Not a good idea as Lazzeri gets a single making it 6-5! Jake Powell flies out to score another run making it 6-6! The 1936 Yankees dugout is going crazy. With a chance to possibly put the game away Myril Hoag pinch hitting K's and Crosetti K's! Pat Malone sets down the 2000 Yankees in The Top of the 9th, and Mariano Rivera shuts down the 1936 Yankees in the Bottom of the frame.

Top 10, Pat Malone puts down Jeter, O'Neill, and Justice in order. Bottom 10 Mariano the great, the best post season closer of all time walks Selkirk to start off the inning much like the 8th! Rivera settles down and K's Lazzeri. Jake Powell steps in and rips a single into right! 1st & 3rd 1 Out! Art Jorgens comes into pinch hit for the pitcher. 3 & 2 Pitch is close, but the ump gives Jorgens first! Basesloaded and 1 out! Rivera vs. Crosetti. Rivera goes up 0-2. The pitch Crosetti slowly hits a groundball to thirdbase side! Brousis charges as the infield was in. Scott picks up the ball barehanded and flips underhand to Posada as Selkirk slides! HE IS OUT AT THE PLATE!! Great play by Brosius at 3rd! 2 Outs Bases still loaded. Red Rolfe steps in and Rivera goes 0-2 on him. Rolfe fouls off a few pitches and on about the 5th pitch of the At-Bat he slaps one over Knobbys head at second! He turns and dives! He can't make the catch!! It drops in! Powell scores! The 1936 Yankees Win! TTTTTTTHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEE 1936 YANNNNNNNNNNNKEEEEES Win!
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (26) 2000 Yankees 6 @ (7) 1936 Yankees 7 (10 Innings)
<b>GAME MVP:</b> Red Rolfe 3 for 5, GW RBI Single
<b>SERIES:</b> 1936 Yankees Win 3-2!

<b>Other Notes/Prediction:</b> The 1977 Yankees are the only team left from the 70's in this Tournament. The 1978 Yankees were eliminated by the 1962 Team. Manager Billy Martin will lead the 1977 Yankees who is on strict orders from George Steinbrenner to win this series so he can have at least three of his teams in the next round. The 1977 Yankees beat The Los Angeles Dodgers 4-2 in the 1977 Series in which Slugger Reggie Jackson hit 3 Homeruns in Game 6. The 1952 Yankees are led by Casey Stengel. They won 95 Games in 1952 and beat the Brooklyn Dodgers in the World Series 4-3. This 1952 Team has the comeback ability as they Lost Game 1, Won Game 2, Lost 3, Won 4, Lost 5, Won 6 & 7 to win the 52 Series. Lineup wise, the 1977 Yankees can flat out rake. Reggie Jackson said he was the "straw that stirred the drink" and with his 32 Homers and 110 RBI's it's hard to argue, but Thurman Munson is the Captain and a winner and he does not want his second series loss. The '52 Squad has some hitters like Mantle, Berra, Collins, Bauer that could do some damage to the 1977 Yankees Staff. The 1977 Yankees have 4 pitchers with 14+ Wins, and decent ERAs. The 1952 Squad is led by Allie Reynolds & Vic Raschi combined 36-14 Record. My Take. 1977 Yankees in 4.

<b>Game 1 </b>
<i>Allie Reynolds 20-8, 2.06 ERA ('52) @ Ron Guidry 16-7, 2.82 ERA ('77)</i> . . . If you like pitching duels this was the game for you. Both pitchers had it working and shutdown each lineup. In the Bottom of the 6th Reggie Jackson (HBP) scored on a RBI Triple by Graig Nettles. That is all Ron Guidry would need. He pitched a complete game 2 Hit Shutout! The only hits he allowed were to Rizzuto & Woodling. No runner on the 1952 Team Got past Second.
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (23) 1952 Yankees 0 @ (10) 1977 Yankees 1
<b>GAME MVP:</b> Ron Guidry -- Excellent Pitching Performance
<b>SERIES: </b>1977 Yankees Lead 1-0

<b>Game 2 </b>
<i>Vic Raschi 16-6, 2.78 ERA ('52) @ Ed Figueroa 16-11, 3.57 ERA ('77) . . . </i>If you liked Game 1, you would have certainly liked Game 2. The 1977 Yankees managed 2 Hits, and the 1952 Managed 6. The team to score? Yes, that's right the 1977 Yankees! Reggie Walked in the Bottom of the 4, Stole Second, and was driven in by a Graig Nettles Single! This game was almost exactly like Game 1, but the hits were reversed, the score was the same. Nice effort by Raschi & Reynolds in the First 2, but amazing efforts by Guidry & Figueroa to go up 2 Games to None.
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (23) 1952 Yankees 0 @ (10) 1977 Yankees 1
<b> GAME MVP: </b> Ed Figueroa
<b> SERIES: </b> 1977 Yankees Lead 2-0

<b>Game 3 </b>
<i>Mike Torrez 14-12, 3.82 ERA ('77) @ Ed Lopat 10-5, 2.53 ERA ('52) . . . </i>I said the 1977 Yankees could hit the ball pretty well, but they only could manage 1 Run again! That came in the Top of the 6th on a Thurman Munson RBI Single to tie the Game at 1. In the bottom of the 6th, Joe Collins hit a one out, Solo Homer which would put the 1952 Yankees ontop 2-1. The pitchers settled down after that and the next scoring opportunity game in the Top of the 9th. Down 2-1. Chambliss reaches on an error, Nettles singles. Lopat is pulled in favor of Johnny Sain. Pinella grounds into a FC. Chambliss is out at third. 1 Out. Willie Randolph walks to load the bases. Cliff Johnson steps in and swings for the fences. Unfortunately for him, it went right in front of home plate! Yogi Berra stepped on the plate, and fired to first to complete the double play and the game! 2-1, 1952 Yankees win, and the 1977 Yankees blow the chance to win the series.
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (10) 1977 Yankees 1 @ (23) 1952 Yankees 2
<b>GAME MVP:</b> Ed Lopat
<b>SERIES:</b> 1977 Yankees Lead 2-1

<b>Game 4</b>
<i>Don Gullett ('77) @ Allie Reynolds 20-8, 2.06 ERA ('52) . . .</i> Casey Stengel announced before the game Reynolds would pitch Game 4, and if he won, Raschi would pitch Game 5. With the way they pitched in losing efforts in the first 2 Games why not? Casey, you were one of the best managers of all-time. Allie Reynolds Complete Game 3 Hit Shutout. The 1952 Yankees scored 2 in the Bottom of the 1st on a Yogi Berra 2 Run Homer and added another in the Bottom of the 6th on a Mickey Mantle sac fly.
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (10) 1977 Yankees 0 @ (23) 1952 Yankees 3
<b>GAME MVP:</b> Allie Reynolds 9IP, 3H, 3BB, 6Ks
<b>SERIES:</b> Tied 2-2

<b>Game 5</b>
<i>Vic Raschi 16-6, 2.78 ERA ('52) @ Ron Guidry 16-7, 2.82 ERA ('77) . . .</i> The 1977 Yankees proved Good Pitching Beats Good Hitting. Vic Raschi pitches a complete game shutout and the 1952 Yankees Cruise to victory 5-0 to win the Series! If you look at it, they could have won the first two games, but they did enough to win the series. Raschi & Reynolds are a two-headed monster! Look out 1936 Yankees!
<b>FINAL SCORE:</b> (23) 1952 Yankees 5 @ (10) 1977 Yankees 0

<b>Other Notes/Prediction:</b> In a pretty even match-up the #12 Team 1953 Yankees will play #21 1949 Yankees! 1949 went 97-57 and won the World Series 4-1 over those Brooklyn Dodgers! 1953 went 99-52 and beat those Brooklyn Dodgers once again 4-2 in the 1953 Series. The Brooklyn Dodgers of 1953 were 105-49 coming into the World Series and might have been the best Brooklyn put on the field record wise but they did not get the job done against the Yankees! Looking at the stats I'd say 1953 should win, but who knows? The last series I was way off. DiMaggio .346,14,67 vs. Mantle .295, 21, 92 should be a key matchup along with Yogi vs. Yogi!
