Has anyone figured out the magic behind determining what a city will accept as a fair and reasonable stadium size and/or cost?

I know if you're in a large city with a hugely successful team, you can almost bank on getting the most expensive possible stadium plan approved, but suppose you're trying to move to a new city, a smaller market, and build a new ballpark.

I have a feeling that you can propose a stadium that's too small... but I don't know at what point that is.

Any theories?

Just from my experience... 65,000 seems like the smallest anybody will accept...

But, hey, let's continue this great dialogue we've got here... don't let me do all the talking. ;)

I'd be glad to pitch in, but I only have TCY. My only experience there is being given a smaller stadium after a decade of sell outs.

I have noticed this as well. I was moving a team to a small, poverty stricken city and thought that a 50000 seat stadium would be appropriate. It failed miserably, even though the team backed the move quite a bit. The following season I tried again with a 70000 seat stadium, footing the bill for the same amount, but smaller percentage of the total and the measure passed. I guess the best way is to test it out.
