Never did.

There are a number of reasons that makes me sad.

One for the number of hours I put into that game trying to do something some guy got done in a few minutes.

Another, for how sad that guy must be for playing the game that much.

There were a couple of times where he was so close to getting stuck in those beginning levels of World 8.. and he didn't get three Stars with those cards. ;)

And I thought I was a badass by winning my impromptu Zelda 3 (the SNES one) competition.

I forget the exact time, but it was like 3 and a half hours. We were on the phone with three-way calling seeing who could beat the game the fastest. It went down to the wire. :)

This whole thread reminds me of that MTV show "True Life: I'm a gamer" or something like that.

Fata1ity was on that show. Sure , he's really good at that game, but its his entire life. He still lived a home, even though he's won alot of money from all the tournaments he's been in,didn't really have any interests outside the game from what we (the audience) could tell, and no girl.

Don't get me wrong, I like my games and such, but some people take them a little too far.

This might make sense:

the guy got a mushroom for the last card on purpose, since getting another star would make that special sequence start.. where the screen pans up to the big star, and gives you 5 lives, or whatever it is. This guy could have done it to skip that "celebration," since it would've cost a few more seconds...

First post, and I'll already get on the bad side of some people.

I'm not sure if it's 100% true. But, according to a friend of mine, this video IS the developer playing. I was greatly disheartened, as this video gave me something to strive for in life.

Okay, that's overshooting it. Either way, I'm not sure if it's totally true...but regardless of who this is, it's very impressive.

No, I don't think you're doing anything "illegal". However, I think its a good idea to keep it to 2-3 lines, keeps the messages alot shorter.

I've never said to anything about sig length unless someone complains, but your original one was WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY longer than anyone else's I'd ever seen. We try to keep 'em fairly short around here, so they don't take up too much room.

I still champion Mario 3 as one of the greatest games of all time and the challenge is certainly one of the reasons. I beat it a few times when I was a kid. Then, a couple of summers ago, I started collecting old games and systems off of ebay and when I got Mario 3, my girlfriend and I started out a game from world 1 and 8 hours later, I had beaten it without warping (she had given up partway through the night) :D

When I was a kid on beat Mario 3 playing even level. Then I heard about teh two whistle thing and beat it with one life. I have to say I probably took a little longer then 11 minutes but probably beat it in less then 30

I love(d) SMB3, but I never thought it was that hard. The warp whistles let you skip right to the last level in 15 minutes or so and the final boss was pretty easy. I always thought 1 and 2 were a lot harder (I think I only finished 1 once and I don't think I ever had the patience to finish 2)

That's odd. SMB2 was always the easiest to me. Then again, if you used the warp whistles on SMB3, then your only challenge is World 8 and while some of those levels are tough (the final fortress before the last castle takes a few minutes unless you have good manual dexterity and the direction memorized) but you can get past the hardest level (the airships) with a p-wing and the final castle isn't all that tough.

That said, real men don't use warps ;)
