...is the fact that there are true superstars of the league who stand out.

Speaking of superstars, check out Bob Stephenson's numbers:

That 5-year run from 2015-2019 is just amazing.

2021 was pretty damn nice as well.

What's really impressive to me is no injuries and the fact that he's still productive this late in his career.

This must be a bug if he played that well for Arizona. :p

Why on Earth did he leave Washington? And what kind of numbers did Kent Raymond put up in 2015?

Raymond in 2015:

329 carries, 1536 yards, 4.6ypc, 8 TD's
60 catches, 585 yards, 5 TD's

Stephenson had 23 catches for 260 yards and 1 TD that year. He was the first-team RB, but Raymond was named MVP.

Here's something interesting:

Raymond was the 'Skins' feature back from 2009 to 2013. I guess when his contract ran out, they signed Stephenson.

I just did some checking on Washington's situation at the end of 2019, when they let Stephenson get away. At that point, three of their starting offensive linemen were also FA-eligible. Going to look at 2020 to see who they re-signed, etc. (Nice little anecdotal look at AI roster building...)

Ben E Lou

I can live with what they did.

They renegotiated (long extension) with their star QB, tried to sign a big-time offensive tackle (he turned 'em down), then re-signed both of their former starting tackles, signed a solid offensive guard, and signed a solid, non-star RB, who rushed for 1361 yards in 2020.

Results?

They went 12-4 and were the wild-card team in 2019, with Stephenson.
They went 12-4 and won the division in 2020, without him.

Both seasons they lost in the Division round of the playoffs to Philly.

I'm guessing that when all was said and done, they could have afforded to re-sign Stephenson, but their initial FA big offer was to the stud offensive tackle. (This guy was rated 100,100,89,96.) I'll be by the time the tackle turned 'em down, Stephenson had already signed the 5-year, $76.24 million deal with Arizona that cost them $9M+ in cap room in year 1.

Dola....

The year 2 hit in Stephenson's contract was $15.73M. Ouch.

Bit of a threadjack (sorry SD), but I've also found this a little odd in the FOF universe...that players can be an MVP yet not the 1st team player at their position. Is this something that happens in the NFL? Or is this a mini-bug?

Wasn't McNabb named MVP a few years back, but didn't make the Pro Bowl?

Here's what happened to Arizona:

2019: 6-10 (w/o Stephenson)
2020: 4-12 (with Stepheson from here forward)
2021: 4-12
2022: 9-7
2023: 6-8-2
2024: 8-8

Washington:
2019: 12-4 (w/ Stephenson)
2020: 12-4 (w/o Stephenson from here forward)
2021: 9-7
2022: 11-5
2023: 6-10
2024: 9-7

Washington's issue in 2023 appeared to have been defense. Their QB (same stud they extended when they let Stephenson go) threw for 4,313 yards with 27 Td's, 10 INt's, and a 96.0 rating

If Vick had been able to have one or two more big games in the playoffs, the case could be made that he was the most valuable guy in the league, but he shouldn't have been first-team QB by any means.

I wonder if Stephenson was a highly rated stud coming out of the draft? My latest draft starred probably the best prospect I've ever seen, Junior Meester, a RB rated 9.0/9.6 adjusted who somehow dropped to the 5th pick in the draft! After training camp he was rated 75/87 and was already the 3rd best RB in the league. I expect him to put up some Stephenson like numbers!

He was drafted 1(7), the 2nd RB taken, rated 49/65, but earned OROY honors. The interesting thing about Stephenson is that at his max, he was rated 67/67.

RB Bernie Garcia, who was taken 1(4) in 2014, three picks ahead of Stephenson, has had a very strong career (12,555 yards, 4.2ypc, 80 TD's), but has no hardware.

Stephenson, however, is the all-time leading rusher in my universe by over 4,400 yards, and he's still active...

More impressed by his consistency and durability than his numbers, as someone else said. I once had an RB who scored 201 TDs on the ground in his career in FOF2.

Was just looking at Stephenson again. He has 4,500 more yards than anyone else in my universe.

That is one thing I love about this version. It from time-to-time produces true once-in-a-lifetime performers.

I've got my Tennessee Titans Quinn Torkleson jersey in the mail. Possibly one of the greatest names in video game football.

Torkleson is overrated. he didn't earn that second mvp trophy, he just got it because of name recognition.

Threadjack 2:

T.J. Duckett (!!!) just won the 2006 MVP award for my Falcons and was named 2nd team RB. His stats were solid, but TD's were way low (like 6). I didn't think he deserved it. But hey, I took over a 4-12 team to make them 13-3 and go to the NFC tittie game. Oh the excitement! Hope we can win in '07 so I can move to another team.

Hmm. Talk about Emmitt's quote about being a diamond among trash. Only the Cruds could sign a perennial 1000+ yard rusher and still suck.
