Is there anyway to release an injured player? I have a guy who is injured for 54 weeks and is in the last year of his contract starting this season. I see computer team players that have been released in FA, but I can't seem to do this?
Thanks,
Todd

I have been wondering the same thing. I have a high priced TE that is wasting money in the last year of his contract.

Nope, you can't do it. Are you sure the AI teams are cutting the players? Their contracts could just have run out.

(FA has just started)
I see a player on the FA list who is a good player, but is injured for 39 weeks. I go to the transaction log and see he was released by his team.
You say, maybe they didn't want to re-sign him, so they released him? (contract was up and they opted "No")
I look up a good FA and check for his name under the transaction log, it should say Player X - released, right? Nope, no mention of his name or anything. Which leads me to believe injured player was released and normal player just wasn't offered a contract.
If I'm right, why can a human controlled team do the same? Is there a rule that says you can't release an injured player?

Seems to me like normal players who aren't re-signed don't show up as 'released' in the transaction log. Those players who have a massive injury, do show up as 'released' which I think means they have been cut from the team.
I always thought I would be able to cut them once a new year starts, but I still can't cut this guy.

Maybe they got an injury settlement??
I think that's the only way to cut an injured player in the NFL IRL.
Of course, it still begs the question why the human player can't do this in FOF and yes, I've wondered about this before as well.

If you put him in IR, it doesn't count against the cap or your roster numbers, right?

It doesn't count against your roster numbers but as far as I know it does count against your cap.

That's what I thought as well. Not sure.

As in real life, you cannot cut an injured player. I think baseball and basketball have the same rule. This compensates in football for the fact player contracts are not guaranteed. Before the days of the union players usually got cut when they took a severe injury and the guys were left with nothing.
The only way you can cut loose a guy with one of those Godawful 70 week injuries is to be lucky if his contract runs out in the middle of it. Otherwise you are stuck.

Or if he retires by himself. I've seen it happen if the guy is already a 8 or 10 year vet...

I had a RB I wanted to cut but he was 'probable' with a turf toe for 2 full years. I was stuck with him.

What I think is happening is that the human player CAN'T release a player who is injured, but the computer players CAN and DO, all the time.
Personally, I don't mind. It's one small advantage for them as opposed to the many advantages human players have.

The CPU shouldn't be able to either

The reason is, because say the injured player was released and has say only 5 weeks left until he's healthy. Theoretically, you could sign him, and have an excellent player for very cheap.

I agree.

Another reason it is unfair is that CPU teams can release injured players that may have large salaries, and then use that freed up cap space to renegotiate with other players. Humans cannot do this.

I'm hoping Jim can fix this in the next (final?) patch.
Is there a list on what's going to be in the patch?

Another interesting thing I have found is you can sign an injured guy cheap, with low risk. If the guy is sched to be healthy during the season, I have never seen them suffer the dreaded post-injury ratings drop. I have only seen that ratings drop when the player gets healthy in the off-season. Granted, the guy might be injury prone, but you can get a guy far cheaper than normal by signing him if he is due to recover during the season.

I've seen this as well, but haven't given in to my greediness.
Too bad you can't sign them long term! :)
Speaking of which, it would be nice to sign a guy for a year and then be able to sign him for more years during the season.

No- I like only being able to sign a playert for 1 year. You would be able to abuse the AI with what you're talking about.

True, but if the AI would evaluate its players as well, it would work. Say they had a vet on the team who wasn't cutting it and signed a decent FA for 1 year, he comes in, plays well, and is signed while the vet gets cut in the offseason.
Maybe a practice squad would work?
Also, too many times I see a QB win the Super Bowl and the next year he signs with another team. More than not, the AI team has plenty of cap room as well. I think Fan favorite has something to do with that as well.
