I'm sure I could find this if I looked hard enough, but what would you like to see included, Skydog?

Have they released any info about the features?
That's cool that the old engine is going to be an option that can be turned on.

I second this, Skydog - what new features and tweaks were you looking for?

I second this, Skydog - what new features and tweaks were you looking for?Oh...nothing in particular. It is a joke dating back to OOTP 4 or 5, I can't remember which. I played the game for a few days, made four or five suggestions for small additions/tweaks, and every single one of them was included--apparently including at least one that had suggested by many people in a previous version and never got implemented. People were joking that I must have had some dirt on Markus or something.

Hehe - oh, ok - my bad. I've been here for a while - not sure why I never noticed this.

What is DIPS?

Defense Independent Pitching Statistics. Basically some thought-provoking research by Voros McCracken (and further refined by Tom Tippett) that says pitchers influence strikeouts, walks, and homeruns, but when the ball is hit in play, there's very little difference between Goose Gossage and Atlee Hammaker. There are some adjustments to be made, but the overall picture is accurate.

I hope the new engine produces realistic post-season results, which I don't think happened at all with the previous engine. Here's to hoping! :)

King,
Can you clarify what you mean by unrealistic postseason results?
Thanks,

OK, the new simulation engine is fully implemented, and it works like a charm. Funny thing is, that this changes more than I thought... for example, those freak seasons where a player really under- or overperforms is now as common as in real life, this makes the game less predictable and harder. Also, thanks to research in the area, defense now actually plays the role it does in real life http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/board/images/smilies/smile.gif In previous version, it was overrated and influenced the results too much and in a wrong way... this has been drastically changed and now works the way it should.
Why does he have to post things like this?? :)
Great news, Markus.

Damn it. I don't want to get excited about OOTP again. Every year it lets me down, but I just want to believe. I want the perfect baseball sim. Damn it - I'm getting excited again.

Expecting the perfect baseball sim, Galt? No wonder you get let down each year. Try being more sensible then you would enjoy it more.

Exactly. I keep buying it. But I never play it. There's just somethig missing and I can't identify it.

I don't expect perfection, but I'll never stop wanting it. And I'm not terribly picky about a lot of things, but some things just annoyed the hell out of me in the past. The inclusion of DIPS is the primary reason for my excitement this year, but something else will probably let me down. I can't help it - baseball is my favorite sport and I want to see it done right.

Done right? Friggin' MLB is the MOST screwed up of any sports "organization/league" I know.

If you are referring to the small/large market disparity in baseball, then I strongly disagree. I'm a much bigger fan of baseball's slow changing power structure than the constant turnover, parity ridden NFL.
If you are referring to Bud Selig's influence on the game, then I couldn't agree more. He is pure evil and should be killed.

I wouldn't want the parity that the NFL has BUT in it's current state it is headed down the toilet.

Probably the same way I feel about football sims, none of them is playable to me as SP game yet. But baseball is a very different sport (and thus, sim) and I think one can get away (or overlook) things more. Imo.

To me, I'm more forgiving with baseball sims. There just seems to be so much to get right, that even on v6, I'm sure there will be things that annoy people. That's why we have versions year after year of sports sims.
I'll play the heck out of it until football season is upon us again. :)
