FYI. Cholla (as you spelled it) is a cactus-like plant native to the American Southwest. So effectively, you are asking if we have bread made out of a cellulose-rich (and therefore inedible) plant with long thorns.

I think you can safely assume that nobody on the Internet has cholla bread. :D

Transliterating from Hebrew to English is frought with troubles... I haven't seen the spelling "cholla" before, but the inherent imperfections in conversion call for a little latitude.

I was at the Silver Diner in McLean, Virginia a few weeks ago and they had this on the breakfast menu. I can safely say yes. Yes it does.

Don't have any in the house, but we've had some in the past. My wife used to be a bread fiend.

it should be a crime to have french toast served with anything else

i am not jewish but i married one and its now it is brought home whenever my wife wants me to make french toast... its basically the thick bread used for french toast in alot of restaurants/diners

Actually, traditional Jewish challah bread doesn't have raisins or anything in particular in it. It is just a fairly heavy-dough bread, usually prepared in a sort of "knot" style -- three strands of dough that are twisted around one another before baking. Usually an egg is basted over the outside of the bread during preparation, giving it a golden sheen and a slight outer coating. You have probably had it before, without even knowing it - either in french toast or just served as a nice golden bread. Preparing a challah is a sabbath tradition for Jews, and is something of a cultural phenomenon (like many rituals of that faith are). And it's pretty tasty, also.

Bingo. I think I spelled it "cholla" because I was driving around a day or two ago and I saw "cholla ave" which kind of just stuck with me. I knew how to spell it, but I had one of those major public brain farts...oy.
