SHould people really wonder whether the Braves are on TV.
One day they get struck out 18 times, the next they get perfected... We need some new hitters.

I watched the last 5 innings. Total domination.
Who is the guy working along with Arizona's play-by-play guy? Man, was he annoying after awhile. In the 9th, even pitches that were 10 feet off the plate he was yelling "that's a strike!" He proclaimed the moment one of the best moments of his life. I think he would have been down there humping Randy's leg after the game if he could have left the booth.

Still doesn't top the Kerry Wood 20K game in my book. But I'm not sure any will ever top that. The only hit he gave up that day was a little squibber that could have been called an error and the Astros could have batted another 9 innings and they still wouldn't have gotten another hit the way his stuff was going that day.
And Don Baylor would have left him out another 9 innings, too

Do us a favor and take a look at the pitching staff on the local team. I recall there's a pitcher with two of them.

What a funny pic on the front of espn. Somehow I doubt RJ cares right now. That's just a goofy pic of him :p
And tonight is just wrong as God is clearly tempting me. First, he gives me one of the greatest periods of hockey i've ever seen (2nd period, Lightning-Flyers). Then a perfect game. Now a huge royals rally (down 5-0, Royals now up 7-5 on home runs by Matt Stairs and back-to-back bombs by Beltran and Sweeney). It's just not fair because i have a final tomorrow and I have to go study now instead of watch the rest of the NHL and KC games :(

To be fair, I never saw Clemens's first 20K game so I can't comment. But Wood's was more dominant than Rocket's second 20K game. He gave up a couple of solid hits in that game. Wood was a ton more efficient. Took Clemens about 150 pitches to 120 for Kerry.

Impressive pitching displays today as Schmidt just finished up his 1-hitter.
SackAttack

September 9th, 1965, perhaps the greatest display of pitching ever seen:
Sandy Koufax hurled a perfect game against the Chicago Cubs, and the Cubs' starter, Bob Hendley, countered with a 1-hitter, walking only a single batter to go with that hit.
I think *that* has to stand as the greatest pitching day in baseball history, although Schmidt and Johnson were both impressive today.

Yeah, there were fewer than 20,000 in attendance, yet most of LA over the age of 50 claims to have been there. Does he have a ticket stub? ;)

I felt pretty happy for him, having followed the last 2 innings on ESPNews while doing some other stuff.
I really feel that no-hitters are quite overrated, but perfect games quite underrated. Sending every single batter back to the dugout is mighy impressive... especially when you're closing in on 41 years old.

I'm talking about the season. One game does not a season make (though it can be symbollic of where the season is heading).

I don't think so, I think they simply broke into coverage and showed the last inning or out of both. Or maybe they did, and I was the one "breaking into coverage" when I turned them on and saw the ending.

I think that the Braves aren't quite done yet (How can they be, what have they done won the Divisional Championship 12 straight years now??), but they are in some trouble.
I think that losing Shef really hurt this team in terms of protection. The pitching isn't the same. Even Smoltz is coming off his injury really slowly. I'm sure they'll put together a streak sometime in the middle ofo the summer like they always do, but I'm not sure if its going to be enough to overtake my surging phillies! :)

If he can handle it it may be time to put Smoltz back in the rotation.

SMoltz is too beat up to even try and start. He's not the same pitcher anymore, and people who want him to start is living in a vacuum. The problem isn't really our pitching as much as the hitting. Ramirez, Thompson and Wright have pitched well this season. Ortiz is an every other start kind of pitcher, and hopefully this snaps Hampton out of his funk. Aside from Cunnane, the bullpen isn't that bad either. The problem is the team is hitting .250 with 31 errors, missing its middle infielders, its corner outfielders miss about every other game, and is platooning a 50 year old and a rookie at first base.
