But I saw something quite heartening this past week. I saw Clinton speak here at KU and he was introduced by Bob Dole. Both got raucous applause and both seemed to genuinely respect each other and consider the other a friend. From what I read, Clinton gets $75K-$200K per speaking appearance but did not ask a fee for this engagement (other than expenses). That's a lot of cash even for a guy who just signed a $12M book deal and to see a gesture like that to speak in a lecture series hosted by the man you faced in a presidential election.. well, that says something about both men. During their speeches, they kidded each other in a playful way and Clinton's message about political civility and divisiveness could have taken many negative undertones but was always positive, never going after the current administration or any previous ones (well, one of his anecdotes mentioned how he had a tough go with Congress but it was in passing).

FYI: They mentioned the total cost was $30K and more than half of that was incurred when they changed venues for some sound system issues and security (from the 1900 seat Lied Center to packing more than 12000 into a non-air conditioned Allen Fieldhouse on a 90 degree day) but they had a lot of disgruntled people when they announced only 350 tickets to students out of the 1900 and had thousands in line and 55K calls to the switchboard when tickets went on sale.

I think it is genuine, and has been for a long time. I remember even back during the 1996 campaign, Dole commented that he personally liked Clinton in response to a question, and during Clinton's second term, he sent Dole as his official emissary on a diplomatic mission to either Bosnia or Kosovo (I don't remember which).

Michael Moore is the 'Oliver Stone" of the documentary. Distortions, half-truths and outright fabrications. But if it floats-your-boat and makes you happy, go for it. Just don't expect anyone else to take you seriously on any other 'facts' you might come up with. Many sources deal with all the above mentioned falsehoods, so don't expect me to itemize them. Look, even though I lean a shade to the right, I love a good liberal arguement. I was for the war in Iraq, but I've read some darned good articles from people on the other side and I can respect their viewpoints.

I can't respect a jerk with a specific agenda to destroy one party and not giving a damn if he has to lie to do it. I'm waiting for the documentary on Clinton that talks about how he let Osama walk when the Sudan had him on a silver platter for us.

Moore won't make that, because he isn't trying to find hypocricy everywhere, he's trying to find it in one party. Fine. . . have at it Michael. It doesn't piss me off and I don't throw hissy fits about it. I just choose not to watch his garbage. Likewise, I watch very little Fox news and I never listen to Rush.

There are PLENTY of people from the right and left who can craft an arguement without resorting to half truths. There are plenty of people who give the opposing side credit when it is due. I'll spend my time watching and reading those people.
