I've uploaded a 100-year history with a 16-team league. This league was run with what was pretty much the release version of the game.
Check it out. (http://www.younglifenorthlake.com/ootp65)

Skydog,
From your beta testing does it look like modifiers won't be needed for realistic player development. Just quickly glancing over the career leaderboard, it looks good.

The modifiers aren't nearly as necessary. Development is pretty realistic overall with the standard settings. The one development-oriented issue that he was unable to fully solve with this version (which, he says, will be revisited with OOTP7) is the AI usage of 33-36 year-olds over 23-26 year-olds with slightly-lower ratings in the starting lineup. There are far fewer of those annoying guys who show up in the lineup for the first time at age 31 and up, though, and even the 23-26-year-old issue has definitely improved. I personally would like to see a few more 40-year-olds productive than there are, but that's pretty minor in the big scheme of things.
As you also may have noticed already from the league I uploaded, batting stats have been reduced a good bit from 6.12, which is a good thing imho.

I think it's improved (I know this got a lot of attention in testing), but I still don't think it's where everyone would like it to be, nor do I think we're really close to that. there are just SO many variables that come into play here that it must be a gargantuan task to get right.
lots of steps in the right direction (the new team focus feature, for example), but I still will keep waivers off in my solo league

when 6 came out, I HATED the way waivers and such was handled, so I just got into the habit of not using them. to me, you get more competitive team AIs with it off, so (outside of testing) I've kept them off.

That's why I'm waiting a week or so to get serious. I figured you would do some extensive testing to figure out some good fictional settings.

what your opinion on trades in 6.5?
we got to see a bit into the logic behind the AI moves in testing. Without divulging stuff that I can't, I think the area that needs to be fine-tuned the most is the way that the AI evaluates talent. As that gets better in future iterations of the game, I think the trading (and, honestly, probably a lot of the waiver moves and stuff) will improve.

why does Skydog always ignore me? :(I don't think he's ignoring you, it's just that trades and waivers are a difficult part of the game to post an opinion on so early in the process. Usually issues with trades and waivers come out little by little as the initial release date fades off into oblivion.
Again, I don't think he's ignoring you, I think he's just said "waivers don't occur as much" in this iteration of the program. Beyond that, I doubt he has much more information this early in the ball game.

Actually, I wrote to them over a month ago asking about a TCY license that I had on my now dead hard drive. Never heard back from them. Even followed that up with a "Anyone care to respond to this attached message?" and still have heard nothing. Fortunately, I found another license I purchased earlier, therefore there's no urgency. Admittedly, if I didn't find the license, I'd probably be writing/calling every 15 mins but haven't done so. Still, it's odd that I have received absolutely no response.
Bottom line is - I'm sure if I was a squeaky wheel, I'd get what I ask for. Ragone needs to be squeakier :)

I haven't even really dug deep into it yet and I would say it's WELL worth $10 if you plan on playing ootp v6.12. Too many additions and bug fixes to pass up, imo.

Skydog, the #1 prospect in your league is named Pedro Pedro. I love it! My favorite new player name!
bigdawg2003
06-14-2005, 08:42 PM
I bought it, and my opinion on waivers is that I still see too many really good prospects being left on waivers and lost. The A's put Huston Street on waivers and I got him when they never pulled him back. The AI does pull back players, but there are still too many 3 star and up prospects changing hands, especially relievers. Also, prospects who are out of options haven't made any appearances so far. Many times in prior versions, 4-5 star prospects that were out of options would be placed on irrevocable waivers and lost. Haven't seen that yet, but I haven't gotten very far along in a season
EDIT: Another thing that does not appear to have been fixed is the tendency of AI teams to convert starting pitchers to middle relievers and then putting them through waivers. Great way to build a young and cheap pitching staff however. Has that ever been reported to Markus?

actually, this beta tester did notice it.
but notice that the OBP numbers are only screwed up for previous years - stuff simmed in the game works fine. I think this is a product of the creation of the roster set, related to the career/last-season stats being off kilter.
the roster creation tools are not very good...

With 6.5a, I'd have to say that ootp is now back at #1 in games played for me right now. Damn fine expansion pack for $10 and really has an unmatched immersion level as far as text sims go for me.
Just as I'm getting to EHM, I can't stop playing 6.5a, kudos to Markus for adding so much to this game. I honestly don't see me caring about v7 near as much now.. at least I can wait. :)
My top 5 now:

3. EHM

Markus has release the Boxscores Screenshots for OOTP 7
and new Patch 6.5b release this week
*** OOTP 7 Boxscores Screenshot ***
Hey guys,
Aurelio and I just completed the coding of the OOTP 7 generatd boxscores, and we thought we'd like to share this with you
Here is a screenshot of boxscores from a game between the Blue Jays and the Brewers, back in 1983... pretty exciting game that was.
OOTP 7 generated boxscore
http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/ootp/ootp7_boxscores.jpg
Hope you like it!
Oh, and some more stuff: If all goes well, then OOTP 7 will feature a webbrowser inside the game, which also interacts with the game, so when you click on a link, the requested report/page will be generated on demand. So basically you'll have a website of your league within your game Oh, and I looked into the Cato stuff a bit deeper... and something like that looks doable for OOTP 7. That's hardly a promise, though
PS: I'll begin coding the 6.5b patch this week..
Everything is template and CSS based, you can design your own stuff into the HTML outputs

a 4 month dola,
I've started a new career with the Cubbyfan roster set and I'd have to say, I'm deeper into 6.5 than ever before. Of course that's easy to say when you're 48-24 and was tied with the Cubs a few weeks ago, 13 wins in a row later, I'm now up 7 games. Rolen is having his best season ever hitting 22 homers and batting in 74 runs. He's 2 HR's and 20 RBI ahead of Pujols and clearly a front runner for MVP so far this season. On the other hand, Carpenter has won 8 in a row and is now 11-3 with a 2.02 ERA.
I forgot how much was added in 6.5 as I've spent hours just looking up various stats.
