News of the World - 8/10
Really enjoyed this movie. Slower pace for sure but found myself wishing it would keep on go for a little while longer. I don't remember seeing Tom Hanks in a somber movie before, so that was different.
Well worth the $5.99 for date night.
Watch that last night as well. For some reason I didn't really get into it, but my wife liked it.
Promising Young Woman- 9/10
Fantastic performances in a very wild story. Dark comedy shot like a modern horror, it is great film but not a good date movie.

Godzilla vs. Kong- 10/10
My most highly anticipated movie for about 3 years. And it did not disappoint. Great effects. Great fight scenes. Just a great movie. I loved it.
I will be watching it again. Watched on HBOMax, and want to see it in the theater to get the full effect.

They Live 4/10 I actually read a good review about this 80s movie. Starred Rowdy Roddy Piper. Thought it would be a fun way to burn off 90 minutes before I went to bed last night. Boy was I wrong. I was not expecting a Stanley Kubrick masterpiece but my gosh this was bad.

One of my favorite all time movies. I also saw it when it originally came out in the theaters and loved it then too. It's definitely not everyone's cup of tea and the acting? Well...not the best either. I was too young to realize the blatant criticism of 1980s consumerism and the battle of the haves and have nots.

Same. I love this movie. “I’m here to kick ass and chew bubblegum... And I’m all out of bubblegum.” That line alone elevates this film above so many others.

Absolutely! That line has gone on to be one of the most famous lines in my opinion. Duke Nukem sure does like it. I always hoped there would be a sequel where they go to the aliens home planet and then Roddy Piper, Roddy Pipers them.

Wonder Woman 1984 - 6/10
What a disappointment. I guess it was okay as a stand alone movie but when compared with #1, it really stunk.
Poor storyline (not worthy of Gal Gadot), yucky outfits, some bad special effects (apex predator) and WTF is up with "up in the air" ... did that happen in the comics? The bonus ending was a nice touch though.

Two thoughts...
The first Wonder Woman wasn't all that, don't get upset about the 2nd one. It was ok. It was entertaining.
Second.
King Kong v. Godzilla 7/10
So I had very low expectations for this one. But, in the vein that the first Transformers movie was good. I did like the very comic book brought to life feel that it had. Not sure what the response was supposed to be but we all couldn't help but laugh watching Hong Kong get completely obliterated. There were plenty of moments to insert your own "MST3K" comments into it. So many meme worthy moments in there. I think it could have killed as a big summer release. I'd watch it again as the entertainment value was high. I think it's so much better than the last ones in the series.

The 12th Man 8/10
This was an excellent Netflix surprise. (Foreign film, you'll need subtitles) Based on a true story about a Norwegian guerilla fighter against the Nazis in WW2. A plan to destroy some German installations in Norway goes awry, only one of 12 survives. The man tries to escape to neutral Sweden while the Nazis are turning the Norwegian countryside upside down trying to find him. Lots of people hide and assist him.
Some of what you'll see him go through is mind-boggling. I doubted how true it was, so I read about his real story and it was about 85% true. Hero.

My wife and I have made it our goal to watch all the Oscar nominated films this year. We love the Oscars but rarely see any of the movies, kids make it almost impossible. We got tired of only knowing the animated ones, so we decided a couple nights a week we would banish the kids upstairs and take one in.
So far we have seen 3
The Trial of The Chicago Seven 9.5/10- Fantastic movie, really engaging. Cohen was incredible as was Mateen. Enough drama and comedy mixed together to strike the right cord. Something about Redmayne annoyed me a little bit but overall the cast was fantastic.
Promising young woman 8/10- Really enjoyed it. Somewhat predictable in parts but the lead was fantastic. Really enjoyed the ending. Have to suspend belief a little bit, but overall really enjoyed it.
The sound of metal 5.5/10- Was a little disappointed as I expected it to be a little more kick ass and instead it was over the top plodding and artistic, which is what I expect from Oscar nominated movies. Very well acted, especially by the pony tail guy who runs the community. I never felt the connection between the leads, and for me there was a gapping hole in the story. wouldn't he think to ask if he could play drums again before getting the implants or the very least someone explain to him he still won't hear normally?

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull 7/10
I still like it, it holds up as much as the others. Toward the beginning of the film Ford is really stiuff, very much like he was during early parts of Last Crusade. But the catalyst that REALLY lets the movie shine and take off full speed is Shia Lebouf. He was great in that. Ray Winstone's character is the biggest problem. It is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO trite and cliche it's ridiculous. Probably could have lost it without problem. Also Karen Allen is awesome altho she smiles a bit too much...probably because she was so happy being back on the set again. Love the ending. And Cate Blanchett is amazing in it.

The Way We Were ?/10
This movie puzzles me. This is my second attempt to make it through it. It is Barbra Streisand and RObert Redford in a 70s romance. I love 70s movies. They have their own atmosphere and style and rules. They take slice of life to the extreme. However this movie like....really needs to let scenes play out a bit more. I've taken to watching like 20-25 minutes of it at a time. It's odd that it is a romance where the two characters should have never gotten together never should have stayed together and have no future. Yet Streisand demands they be together, even though she can't stand hanging out with him nor he with her. Redford is sooooo incredibly stiff in the movie all throughout. I later read that Sydney Pollack hid from the writer to rewrites scenes to put in more of redford and then it went through a million rewrites then the main writer came back and it was a complete mess. It defienitely plays that way.

I FINALLY watched Eyes Wide Shut....it was unnerving...and tense....and....wow. I can't describe it but I was scared most of the time. I really really really wish he had cast someone other than Cruise and Kidman as both had this unnatural fake way of delivering their lines that got on my nerves. Like you could drive a truck through their pauses before every line. I wish it went on longer really because the end was....I dunno....lacking? Loved Sidney Pollack in it

Justice League: The Snyder Cut 8/10
It took me about a month to watch this. I planned for it to take about a week, but stuff got in the way. My goal was to watch it more like a TV show than a movie, watching each distinct part separately - the movie is divided into several parts with title cards.
Despite hating the theatrical release - that one took me forever to watch, but mainly because I was so bored - I really enjoyed this 4 hour beast. The movie felt coherent. It was interesting. The action sequences were great. There was sufficient time with each character. I'm glad that these characters finally got a proper film that did them justice, especially Cyborg.
It's surprising to say, but I think Ben Affleck is my favorite movie Batman to date. The Christopher Nolan Batman movies are better films, but I like Affleck as Batman more than Christian Bale.

Blackkklansman 7/10
It was alright - main criticism was it was too slow, and I felt it only really skimmed the surface of the politics. The story itself was excellent, and I didn’t mind the artistic license that it gets criticised for - all films based on true events do that.
The parallels drawn between the 1910s, 1950s, 1970s and current day were all cleverly done, and the section cutting between the black student lecture about the Jesse Washington lynching and the KKK Birth of a Nation initiation meeting was the best bit of the film for me.
Some of the acting was great, some not so great - I felt it might have worked better as a feature length documentary, but TBF it wouldn’t have gained the same publicity or audience, which is an important part of the film as a whole entity.
Overall I thought it was more of an important film than a great one.

The Mitchells vs the Machines 7/10
Good, lighthearted family fun. Some quirks with the animation style, which kept things a bit fresh. The big emotional conflict in the movie is a girl leaving for college and her relationship with her family. So if you've got a kid in that zone, be prepared for perhaps a bit more of an emotional tug at the heartstrings than you would expect from a robot apocalypse cartoon comedy.

Not sure what I would give it, but I think it failed on the main metric I rate animated movies on these days - if they appeal as much to adults as they do with kids, ie. some jokes and concepts sprinkled in there that would fly above the heads of kids. I don't think this movie really had any that jumped out at me. It just felt like lots ideas and characters I've seen before done better in other animated movies. Nice animation though, and it was good to see a mix of different cultures/influences throughout.

It didn't feel like a typical super hero movie, I'm not a huge fan of the genre to begin with, but it was action packed, while not overloaded with it. Perfect summer movie. The Rock is just so damn good in these. The jokes are funny and they do a great job of capturing the spirit of the actual ride at Disney. I got an idea, let's have every character say exactly what they are thinking at all times. All exposition will be done through dialogue. Also, the dialogue will be overly clunky and oddly stilted.

Documentary about The Villages, FL, a massive retirement complex, through the eyes of four different residents. The best of which is a guy who is the stereotype of the guy who "can't settle down". Black Widow a hard one to score for me. Unlike most of the post-GotG movies it was pretty short on humour (outside of some moments from the father), and to be honest I just don't think Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow is interesting enough to carry a movie by herself. I think my issue with those - it's not that they're bad but that they're pretty faithful adaptations of the originals so they don't give the Muppet characters much room to breathe. And, at their essence, the Muppets have always felt about heart and character to me. So having to slavishly hold to Bob Cratchet or Captain Smollett needlessly restrains Kermit, for instance. You can get a little Kermit-esque spin, but not as much as if he's unrestrained.

The end was fantastic.
If they had plopped this as an actual episode in Season 6 or something, I think people would have loved it. That's what it really was - a super-sized TV episode rather than self-contained movie.
I just loved being back in that world. I was so sad when it was over. Even considering the HBO Max concurrent release, it tanked at the box office, so I'm not sure we'll see another one, or another expanded universe kind of thing. David Chase did sign some kind of first-look deal with HBO, but, he's really old, I'm not holding my breath at this point.
The Sopranos was always a show that gave you a sense that a ton happened before you started watching, and a ton is happening off-screen, and a ton will happen when the show is over. It doesn't care that you're watching it, as much as other TV shows. The movie had that same feel.

How can you not like this movie? It's just so grand, and paced well. I know nothing of the book, so coming into this clean I didn't have any sort of expectations. It's well worth the time. I'd like to see it on the big screen. The set, images and scenes are so huge, it would be a real treat. The music is the final piece of the puzzle. It's just adds a full dimension to the movie. I can't wait for the next part. I liked the pacing. Some might think it's slow...but it has a steady build and it feels like every scene has important parts that need explored. Great stuff.

Dune 2.0/10
I know I am taking a contrarian opinion on this one given its Rotten Tomatoes score.
I was looking forward to this one. I haven't read any of the books but like Star Wars. This is not Star Wars.
Positives:
-One of the most visually stunning movie I've ever watched. This movie is absolutely beautiful.
Negatives (for me anyways):
-Pacing is very slow.
-I thought the movie was convoluted and difficult to follow. I like the more straight forward plots of the Star Wars and MCU movies.
-At the end of the movie I didn't care about any of the main characters. I feel like despite its slow past there wasn't proper character development.

Dune 1/10
I haven't read the books but I have seen the 1984 David Lynch movie several times, mostly to make fun of it. I know several people who loved the book series, and was excited about a possible better treatment to the story. Sadly I only made it through an hour and half before I quit watching. The story was predictable, and the characters were uninteresting. I wanted to like it, but just didn't.
edit: why is it in the future they can't afford lights? Why was everything shot in interiors so dark?

I fell somewhere in the middle. New to the series. It was a beautiful movie, even on my TV at home. But a little slow. And the total lack of humor was a minus. I like a little Star Wars-like humor sprinkled in. I'd give it a 6 or so. Will see the next one.

There it is. That was the biggest thing missing. Not like a cartoonish, Jar Jar Binks kind of humor, but just the way people find humor even in the darkest times.

The Father 8/10 (Starz)
Anthony Hopkins plays a father who is losing control of his senses. He is fighting help from his family, and he struggles to make sense of his world at times.
I have to say, that this portrayal of dementia is probably the most realistic in terms of storytelling and getting you to empathize with the main character. His acting is top notch, as usual, but here, he's playing every scene and carries such gravity with his performance that you have a hard time looking away. The final scene is one of the most powerful of the year.
I'm an only child. My parents needs will fall on me as they age. And as for myself...the idea of aging and watching your world fall away from you is not how any of us want to age.

A solid Bond movie. A worthy ending for Bond, James Bond. Son and I both agreed it was time, Daniel Craig was looking a little too boomerish.

While it's not one of my top five favorite MCU movies ever, I thought this movie was solid. I thought it was better then other MCU movies in character development for the main antagonist of the movie. In addition, Awkwafina was particularly funny in her role. I also really liked the post credit scenes even more then most other MCU movies.

Googled on it and it's pretty accurate on how the story unfolds. There are some liberties taken (especially in the fight scenes) but compared to other movies "based on true events" this one is pretty good.
Slow, plodding in most of the story but fascinating view of medieval times.

Caught this in its very brief theatrical window after a nice boozy brunch, I think it's on Netflix now, or soon. If you like Adam McKay movies, this is most definitely an Adam McKay movie. Highly recommended if you liked movies like the Big Short and Vice.

We struggle sometimes to find good movies for a family movie night that includes 10 and 13-year-old boys and aren't part of the Marvel/Disney behemoth. So, to that end, Free Guy was a good choice.
But you know what also was a good choice (this was last weekend)? The original Blues Brothers. Good pacing, great music, and even funnier than I remembered. Had the kids doubled over with laughter. I think it helps that there's a lot of swearing, which boys of that age love, but there are also plenty of really silly set pieces, like knocking the Illinois Nazis off of the bridge, Carrie Fisher blowing up buildings, etc....

Cleopatra (1963) - 3/10
Long and boring. At one point the most expensive movie every made. I can see why. There were a lot of massive, elaborate sets that were used for just one scene. The movie was mostly just Cleopatra and Caesar, and then Cleopatra and Marc Anthony, sitting around and talking. Insanely boring movie that took me a full week to work through. I give it a few stars for the sets, costumes and cinematography, but that's all.
And I absolutely hated Rex Harrison as Julius Caesar. Not saying he did a bad job specifically, just that I don't see him as Julius Caesar. Not even close. His look, his voice, his mannerisms...just all wrong. Maybe Ciarán Hinds crushing it in HBO's Rome ruined anyone else being Caesar for me.

My sons and I tried to watch this last night. We watched the first 40 minutes and could not believe how boring it was, and had the same thoughts around too many characters and not caring about any of them. When we realised there were still 2 hours left we turned it off and have no plans to return. What a stinker.

I actually liked the Eternals better than I expected (I'd probably give it like a solid 6/10), but I get why people didn't love it. They tried to introduce way too many characters at once and, in my opinion, did a pretty bad job of establishing a big, bad villain (he and his motives were there, but not enough work done to make anyone care about him). I think they could have pulled it off with six or seven characters, but ten was way too many.
I think there were enough good performances to make it worth seeing. I thought the Kingo storyline was interesting enough (and I liked how he sort of hedged and didn't come back to help) and thought Phastos and the Thena/Gilgamesh characters were interesting. And having someone openly gay, a deaf person, and the equivalent to a mental illness (with Thena) were at least notable. They sort of focused on Sersei, Ikaris, and Sprite - and those three would be among the ones I would consider cutting (although you kind of need Ikaris, I guess).
I think the writers fell in love with the source material and didn't spend enough time thinking like a viewer, so they didn't realize how confusing ten new heroes with all new powers and a new villain would be and how little time they would have to flesh them all out.
EDIT: I did like the mid- and post-credits scenes. Apparently the voice speaking to Dane at the end was: Blade, who is getting a reboot soon.

Got it at Redbox for $2 (vs $20 on Prime). Book is one of my favorites and watched the other 2 adaptations. Pretty big disappointment. Basically, boring. If this was a standalone movie, would not be part of my BR collection but know I'll have to watch part 2 and hope it gets better.
Grand sweeping landscapes, great special effects, like how outfits & people from House Atreides was so different than Harkonnen, and all that. But lacking in dialogue, redundant shots of the ornithopters (okay, they look cool but give it a break), and really no sandworm but just teasers.
Also, the lack of non-blade weapons is weird. I'll have to read the book again sometime. I get the personal body shields would stop bullets, but thought Sardaukars fought with guns. Regular Atreides also.

Huge Liam Neeson fan so I was a little disappointed in the lack of action. But it is a nice throwback to the old detective movies of the 80's and 90's. David Harbour is a great villian and while I wouldn't go out of my way to see it, it was enjoyable for what it was.

I really liked it. Nothing earth-shattering here, just a fun action/comedy with a role made for Ryan Reynolds.
Blacklight - 2/10
How do you screw up a Liam Neeson movie so bad? I can forgive the weird plot that made me not care about anyone in the movie. But the action was garbage too and the ending was rushed. Genuinely one of the worst movies I've seen in some time. And I am a sucker for stupid action/revenge movies.

The Foreigner - 8/10
This was surprisingly really good. It feels like 2 movies in one. You have this political thriller about the IRA which is solid. Then they just sort of mix in a Jackie Chant action/revenge flick inside it. That seems really weird, but it works.
Jackie Chan still kicks ass at his age and has some surprisingly great dramatic scenes. But the star of the movie is Pierce Brosnan who could have easily phoned this in and didn't. His character is essentially Gerry Adams.
This is precisely what I want out of an action/revenge movie.

Pretty darn good. Not sure I can believe Dr. Strange doing the "grey area" stuff or Spidey being able to find the "cure", but bringing the Spidey "others" was a masterstroke IMO. Greatly enjoyed seeing them again and their banter.

(Trying to do this spoiler-free)
We just watched this Thursday or Friday night, too. The premise is really weak - Dr. Strange is like "yeah, we'll do this crazy stupid thing because I like you kid", which feels horribly out of character on 3 different levels (playing with magic for a frivolous purpose, using really powerful magic he doesn't really understand for said frivolous purpose, and doing it out of sentiment to Peter). A bunch of the secondary characters feel out of character, like weird caricatures of themselves. You take a lot of characters and put them in a different setting and it's hard to make that fit right but another MCU movie, Infinity War, did a pretty good job of that while this did a... less good job. In short, it sells out a lot of plot and character consistency, even grading for superhero movie standards, for good moments.
But a number of those moments are pretty awesome and the total package is quite enjoyable. An 8 feels about right - it's big and ambitious and should get points for that even if it can't quite nail all the landings on the big elements.
We just re-watched all 8 Spider-Man movies over the past month. It's not better than Spider-Man 2 but I'm ok slotting this in somewhere in the 2nd or 3rd spot of best Spider-Man movie, especially considering the attempted scope.
I think I end up something like
Spider-Man 2
Spider-Man: No Way Home // Spider-Man
Spider-Man: Homecoming // Spider-Man: Far From Home
(decent gap)
Amazing Spider-Man // Spider-Man 3
(decent gap)
Amazing Spider-Man 2
It tries hard to tie up and make up for some of the sins of the previous movies but that means there's just so many battling priorities so you just can't make it consistent. Like Foxx feels horribly out of character and his character in ASM wasn't that good to begin with. Molina does his best but Doc Ock's script is iffy. Sandman starts out on Spider-Man's side but then joins Electro... for no good reason. Dafoe's Goblin actually feels pretty good. That said, I absolutely love the idea of a multiverse Sinister Six

A SEPARATION (2011) - 10/10
This movie won best Intl Feature at the Oscars in '11 and I am sorry that I missed it. Spectacularly humanizing. The plot unfolds in a circular manner that pulls everybody involved (viewers included) deeper and deeper into an ever-growing set of problems, accusations, and lies. At its core, it's a movie with people talking in rooms, and not a single second isn't captivating.
THIEF (1981) - 7/10
VENGEANCE FOR SONNY CORLEONE!!!!

The problem with these documentaries is that they don't present any new information. It's all kind of added speculation.

Eternals - 3/10
The first two hours of the movie was very boring. Additionally, there were to many characters for me to care much about anyone. The last 40 minutes of the movie wasn't to bad at least. The post credits indicated the Eternals will return but I would be fine if we never see them in the MCU again. This is a rare bad movie for the MCU.
Late to this and agree, it's a really bad movie.
With that said, I think they should have made it a show. The problem was trying to stuff so many characters into a movie. An 8-10 episode series would have helped flesh out each character a bit more.

I'm one of many men introduced to Downton Abbey through their significant other, but probably towards the top tier of that group in how much I enjoy it. Saw the new movie last night. This shit is so fucking pleasant!!!!
Even though there's kind of a lightning pace with the 8,000 characters that have to get some time, it's still just like slipping into a warm bath. I love when the gang reaches new thresholds of current events and technological innovations. And problems being solved very quickly through coincidences, simple advice, or the revealing of information that had no reason to be concealed in the first place. I want more!
All Creatures Great and Small, through 2 seasons on PBS now, gives me the same feeling. The perfect Sunday night show.

Walking the nth high end mall in Asia (primarily for air conditioning) and said heck with it. How many frakking high end watch stores can their be with their nicely coiffured and suited up door/security man. Saw a cinema and said I'll make better use of my time.
Won't do spoilers, handful of stuff to nitpick but go with the flow. Will comment more after everyone else had a chance to watch it. But really entertaining movie especially for those that remember the original.

Has to be the most creative usage of the concept of the multiverse I've ever seen, and man was it refreshing to see a movie so unapologetically goofy and over the top. Top Gun: Maverick 8/10
I'll admit, early on, it was what you thought it would be. It's got some call backs, some which are good, some annoying, with some great flying. It also suffers from a bit of the same issues that the Phantom Menace struggled with where it needs a lot of backstory to really flesh out new characters, but there's not enough time to really make that happen without a 4 or 5 hour movie. So that's that.
Just when you thought that this movie was sort of long, and an enjoyable ride, but not amazing......damn.....so good, it ramps up and hits it hard and keeps going. Enough that my adrenaline was flowing. By the end, I was wearing a very, very big smile.
Well worth the first trip back to a theater for me. So happy I saw it there. I want to see it again.

Do not go see Jurassic World Dominion. Absolutely not worth your time or money. Seriously a 1 or 2 out of 10.
Not even much good dinosaur action. More time is spent on giant locusts than any given dinosaur. No joke. Most of the movie is about an evil genetics corporation run by a Tim Cook clone who wants to take over the world. I couldn't have cared less about that plot, yet it was the bulk of the movie. Stay far far away from this crap. There aren't even any really memorable dinosaur scenes to make it worthwhile. If you've seen commercials, you've seen the highlights.

Do not go see Jurassic World Dominion. Absolutely not worth your time or money. Seriously a 1 or 2 out of 10. I should give it a 6/10 now, the same as Jurassic Park 3, but at least lower than the other 4 movies. I might eventually downgrade this one to being the worst, but not by much.

It didn't feel quite the same as Jurassic Park 2 and 3 as a plotline, but the number of scenes with dinosaurs in them is probably on par with those two. Jurassic World (1 and 2) had more dinosaur action, if my memory serves correctly. I see that as a warning for those that haven't gone yet, not quite a spoiler. It's also no spoiler that at some point in the movie the protagonists of the "Park" movies and the "World" movies will run into another.
All in all, it felt goofier, sillier and more far-fetched than the previous movies. I had a good laugh about how some scenes were too obvious in what will happen next, or if not, kind of "meh/wtf"-ish.

5.5/10
Well, I really, really wanted to like it. Big fan of most of the series, but honestly, the last one was kind of shit too, and I didn't even remember watching it when we watched it before this one.
So...it's totally predictable. It's got a plot, and it's got some tech, and it's got chases, and action. So I'm watching this movie thinking it's really lacking a lot of what made Jurassic Park good and fun. There was far less humor than there should have been. There was some contrived plot.
What it really is is this. Do you like the Bourne movies? Do you like Dinosaurs? Then you'll like this. Because that's really all it is. Chases, and fights where the main characters probably don't get hurt. Enjoy.

Batman (2022) - 7/10
I like the direction the new Batman is going. A more realistic Batman that can get hit, injured etc. I love the shotgun scene! But on the other hand, don't they know to aim for the face?
I also like how it spent time building character (learning more about the family) although the thing with Catwoman could have been a little slower.
But a little too moody/brooding for me and not enough action. Maybe another 3-4 fight scenes along the way.
Giving it a 7 which is borderline buy it for my BR collection. But looking forward to the next one

A solid Bond movie. A worthy ending for Bond, James Bond. Son and I both agreed it was time, Daniel Craig was looking a little too boomerish.
Not sure I like the new 007 but I'm sure I'll watch her. She had some nice fight scenes (or at least her stunt double did).
Re-watched this tonight on Prime. Think I got it right with 8/10. A little convoluted and a little to deus ex machina with Spectre but good action. Will miss Daniel Craig, think he is my favorite (all the others had ridiculous hand to hand combat, fight scenes).

I saw this over the weekend. I want to give it a 6.5/10 or so.
I think my general thought is that Chris Hemsworth is so damn likable and charismatic, that he can carry a movie into good territory on his own, but they had Natalie Portman, Russell Crowe, and Christian Bale as supporting cast and somehow failed to utilize all three as well as the could have. Bale was fine, Portman was fine but seemed awkward with the comedy portions, and I can't believe that Crowe even agreed to be in the movie. I really like the Valkyrie character and thought the kids were actually pretty good (I liked that storyline). The Korg stuff is getting into Jar Jar Binks territory for me, which is unfortunate because he was pretty cool as a gag here and there, but not so much as a main character.
I hope Hemsworth sticks around to be a flag bearer for Marvel for the next 10-15 years. I did think these were two of the best med- and end-credits scenes in awhile - a good set up for the future and nice closure for a couple of characters played by great actors.

I don't watch movies, but I may come out of retirement for this one.
Rather than a straight-up horror flick, I hope this is some kind of low-energy, depressing dystopian nightmare where Barney ends up snorting lines of coke with Eeyore, Eeyore ODs and Barney puts a shotgun in his mouth while trying to figure out how to reach the trigger with his short arms (hey, I enjoy a little levity now and then), and we finally hear a shot while the credits begin to role.

Nope - 9/10
Fair warning, I wanted to go into this liking it and it did not disappoint. Typical Peele fashion a nice slow burn with great character development. A movie that gives you a story and builds around it while building on complexity and complexity of the different characters. There's more than enough to keep you wondering what's coming next. The previews really do give you an idea of what you're in for, however it does not give the game away, and they don't detract from the expectations either. This is not one of those movies where all the good parts were in the previews.
The human element is definitely at play here, how people deal with tragedy, the struggle and pressure to make something of yourself, the marginalization of people who are sorted by expectation of their 'cover', and relationships in general.
Good humor, action, and Peele proves he's a master of tension and expectation. It's so much more than just fear and jump scares. Top notch, will be one you can put on whenever it's on the TV and get into.

Apparently this report is somewhat inaccurate.
Why wouldn’t Warner Bros. just release Batgirl on HBO Max? - Polygon (https://www.polygon.com/23290387/batgirl-hbo-max-canceled-streaming-movies)
TLDR: Batgirl was made with a straight to HBO Max budget of about $90 mil and the new head guy wants all DC movies to be big budget theatrical releases to compete with the MCU. It doesn't sound like it's a great movie by any means, but it wasn't good enough for a theatrical release and therefore it's going to be buried.

Thor: Love & Thunder - 8/10
Haven't seen it yet but am looking forward to it. A female Thor! and its Natalie Portman! Glad she is doing well since the Star Wars prequel (vs Hans).
I've taken some spice for my prescient and predicting an 8/10.
Finally watched it on Disney+ today. I'll change my rating to 7/10.
Definitely entertaining and some very cool GnR classics (love them), and I'll add it to my 4K collection.
But I find the amount of irrelevant humor distracting and too much (the goats are BS, Asgard being commercialized is stupid). And I didn't like the "gods" angle, how in the world/universe/dimension are they all co-existing?
Regardless, entertaining movie. Just too much stupidity.

It was free on Tubi last month, so I watched it a couple of weeks ago - for the first time since the original theatrical release.
If you can put aside the dated special effects (the shark brings a few seconds of unintentional comedy - Spielberg realizing this in filming and using the iconic theme music as much as possible instead of the visual to great effect), it's a fantastically paced thriller with a rather thin backstory. Still, they realized the novel was even thinner and removed the worst of it (the affair between the police chief's wife and the marine biologist) so that audiences wouldn't simply root for the shark.
For a brief time, until Star Wars, it was the biggest box-office movie of all-time. Pretty much pioneered the concept of the summer action blockbuster.

Alien Prometheus - 8.5/10
Re-watched Prometheus tonight (and will be re-watching Covenant also). I searched this thread and although I commented on it, I never rated it. I'm giving it one of my higher ratings.
As Honolulu Blue said, there are holes in the plot/consistency, and definitely a lack of basic quarantine control that any sci-fi fan would know. I'm okay with that. I'm more annoyed about the "why do they want to exterminate us" question left unanswered (and know it's not answered in Covenant either). After 10 years since Prometheus (and 5 years since Covenant), it's a long time to leave us hanging.
But the special effects, the overall plot, origins of the xenomorph, the questions posed etc. all fantastic.
I've read there will be a 3rd movie but read conflicting stuff. It may be between Prometheus & Covenant. It may not be part of this current series. Whatever, let's get more movies made!

I was on a long plane flight with limited sleep so I might be a bit loopy about these, but I'll take a stab.
First, I watched The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, the slightly pretentious but quite hammy and absurd action comedy drama about Nic Cage playing himself but undercover as a CIA spy opposite an equally good Pedro Pascal. I may have been tired but I laughed a lot. Cage and Pascal's buddy comedy drama really works and there's enough plot to keep things moving, even as it self references itself a lot. It's very metafictional, which is getting to be overdone, but this is still done pretty well.
Everything Everywhere All At Once. My god, they truly don't make movies like this anymore. Has to be the most creative usage of the concept of the multiverse I've ever seen, and man was it refreshing to see a movie so unapologetically goofy and over the top. Really tugged at the heartstrings at the end there too.
Easy 10/10 for me.
I like that it took chances with combining a multiverse scifi that's been done (the Russo brothers of MCU fame were producers if I read that right in the credits) and grafts an uplifting family drama onto it - it worked really well. Also, The five leads are all good to great (Yeoh was brilliant). The emotional punch is really good with a positive anti-nihilist message that's hard to get right in the current zeitgeist.
But damn if it didn't need some editing - it was drug down by some worn plot points (every Asian mother-daughter drama ever), some plots that didn't land (Raccoon-y was just a long way to payoff a bad joke from earlier in the movie), and some really off the wall and distracting humor (bits had to be pixellated on the plane for crude sexual joxes). The other thing that got me is that it had a little of "The Good Place" problem - where if they came up against a really vexing moral quandary, they just hand waived it away (Evelyn breaking the multiverse) or made it so absurd as to suck some of the gravity out of it (everything/nothing bagel). Still, I'm writing a couple of paragraphs here so it did a lot more well than it did badly.
Finally, I went with the new Suicide Squad, the James Gunn one with Idris Elba. And, yeah, it was stylzed and lots of jokes, some stupid, which worked ok for how tired I was getting. Gunn grabbed a number of guest stars to work with him for cameos and a lot of characters died quickly. It was better than the previous one but still felt pretty dumb and empty calorie, even for a superhero movie. Dammit, just let Elba be the new Bond so he stops slumming it in movies like this or Pacific Rim or the bad Star Trek Fast and Furious movie.

Alien Covenant - 7/10
I enjoyed the movie for what it was. Liked the action but would have preferred more. Did the plot have holes (e.g. new world/first contact/quarantine procedures)? Sure, but I went to watch it as a fan for the past 30 years or so, and it didn't disappoint.
.
Re-watched Covenant and agree with my original assessment of 7/10. Not near as good as Prometheus (which had the original concept about our makers/Engineers) and still very tired of the stupid lack of basic quarantine procedures.

Watched Thor:Love and Thunder, and it was unfairly skewered. It's a fun movie. It stands on it's own, it has a very different feel, but that doesn't make it bad. The people that are mad about it really must have a stick up their asses and take the entire MCU to seriously.

I think that is why he had the shark kill a kid (to keep you for rooting for the shark). Probably why it's scarier than the goofy slasher killers. He did pull any punches with that kill either probably one of the most heart wrenching moments.
From that point, the shark had to die (until it was revived for more movies).
Still one of the best films ever.

Did some googling and one theory, supposedly based on orig script (which was obviously revised), the idea was Engineers were PO'd about Jesus. He was someone the Engineers took, trained, did whatever, and return him to Earth only to be whacked off. Glad they left it off.
Another theory is there are 2 sets of Engineers. One of them are like the crazies who want to kill us off.

The Munsters- 4.5 out of 10 I was expecting a silly, camp style movie, but it over-delivered in the camp. It was rarely funny, usually when it really hit on the original show's funny bits. It also shared a feeling with the second Netflix movie I watched as having very low production value. Like "Tv movie of the week" low.
ME TIME-5 out of 10 Maybe slightly funnier than the other movie, but only slightly. Obvious plot full of zany characters that were hit and miss.

Bullet Train - 7.5/10
In the first 5 min or so, I was thinking very Tarantino like. About 10 min in, I knew this was a movie I would have to rewatch to take it all in, too confusing at first.
Movie was fun. Good action, witty back-and-forth, nice special effects etc. Nice guest appearances, cameos.
The current spat with Angelina Jolie notwithstanding (don't know who to believe just yet), I like Brad Pitt. He's aging well as an actor. (Sandra Bullock is looking like one too many facelifts/botox unfortunately).
EDIT: watched it again and will keep it at 7.5. I'm tempted to up it because I enjoyed the creativity of incorporating the Japanese version of English songs but not quite enough to bump it up to an 8.

Passengers - 8/10
Didn't get good reviews but I thoroughly enjoyed it. There were some parts that were way too simplistic but the overall plot was great.
If you are a sci-fi fan, go see it.
Rewatched Passengers and I'll lower it to 7/10.
Still a fun, fun movie to watch and still does remind me of Heinlein'ish adventure. But yeah, waking up Jennifer Lawrence, even if going half-mad, is not a good foundation to build a movie.
It would have been better if both of their capsules failed and they woke up. Come up with some other personal crisis to overcome.
I do love the ending where the crew wakes up and finds an overgrown garden. It would have been a nice touch to have their descendants around but then that would bring up the theoretical/biblical question of how did Noah's kids repopulate the world.

Fun movie about a struggling musician being the only person that remembers The Beatles and their songs (well, not the only only person) after some sort of "event". I wish they played more of the songs and the Lennon cameo was cool.

Oh well, guess we don't need to worry about Wonder Woman 3

Re-watched "Live Die Repeat: Edge of Tomorrow". Giving it an 8/10.
It's an underrated movie.
I think Tom Cruise is a good actor. His progression from non-combatant to a veteran was great. I watched the specials and it showed how physical it was filming in those suits.
Great chemistry between Cruise and Emily Blunt.
And I didn't know this until watching the specials but Bill Paxton (RIP) was in the movie as the drill sergeant. "Game over man!"
Chuckled at this. Other than his crazy Scientology antics, great guy.
“We had to wear these enormous suits, which I think would’ve been great if we had CGI’d them, but we wanted to do it in a tactile way,” she revealed on the “SmartLess” podcast on an episode dropping Monday, per news reports.
:
It was like 85 pounds. It was so heavy,” she continued. “The first time I put it on I started to cry, and [Cruise] didn’t know what to do.”
“He just stared at me for a long time, not knowing what to do, and he goes, ‘Come on, stop being such a p—y, OK?'” she said, adding it caught her off guard and made her laugh.

But is it a Christmas movie? :p
What kind of stupid question is that. OF COURSE IT'S A CHRISTMAS MOVIE! :D
I mean, isn't it obvious:
Music? Of course! Winter Wonderland, Let It Snow, and Christmas in Hollis
"It's Christmas, Theo. It's the time of miracles. So be of good cheer... and call me when you hit the last lock." ("You asked for miracles, Theo, I give you the F.B.I.")
Setting? It's definitely Christmas Eve. And not like subtly in the background - it's front and center. From the intro at the Christmas Party to the guy arguing that he can't turn off the power on Christmas Eve - the movie reminds you of it again and again.
"Now I have a machine gun. Ho-ho-ho"
There's a number of random trappings throughout the movie to remind you what time of year it is like the plastic Santa, the Christmas wrapping tape, and the giant gift bear.
"'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, except... the four assholes coming in the rear in standard two-by-two cover formation."
Ultimately, it's a love story where the high end professional woman is conflicted between her career and her man who is a bit more simple. Heck, her name is even "Holly".
And, by the end of the movie, it's even snowing in LAI mean, it might as well be on the Hallmark Channel. All it's missing is Ed Asner playing an old guy that may or may not be Santa.
