TD for LT. Third and one and everyone on Denver goes for the FB and doesn't pay attentioin to LT. That's poor coaching there. Very poor coaching.

Looking really good for SD right now. The Broncos wasted their early domination, both in TOP and the score.
The defense is playing pretty poorly right now. I like what the offense is doing, but they aren't putting points up. A huge third down coming up here. Third and 11. You have to find Gates and you have to force the punt here. The Chargers look like they are in complete control of this game right now.
And Brees gets a prayer answered. Horrible.

The Jets offensive line is finally opening up some holes. Derrick Blaylock is looking greath in the #2 role, easing the decision to let LaMont Jordan walk (the only thing they could do).

14-3 Chargers. Barring a miracle comeback, it's time to just implode this Bronco team and it's time to fire Shanahan. Too much talent on this team to be playing like this. Denver dominates the first quarter and is down 14-3 late in the second?
This team is a joke right now.
TroyF
09-18-2005, 04:17 PM
It just gets better and better. Our best RB on this team is now hurt because Shanahan insists on not playing him at running back and putting him on the kick team. Nice call there Mike.

Jerramy Stevens just made a class catch for a TD on a nice 45yd bomb from Hasselbeck - 21 zip Seahawks over a toothless Falcons. Shaun Alexander and Darrell Jackson are having their way with the Atlanta D.

The "Holy Roller" rule just came into effect and the Jets turned the ball over on downs at the 1 yard line. Martin fumbled the ball while trying to score (reaching for the goal line) on 4th and 1. He fumbled, it was batted around, and Jerald Sowell recovered for the (apparent) touchdown. It was overruled a second later and the ball went over on downs.
argh.

Packers just got screwed out of a fumble recovery because the ref called it the RB down. Dumbass, he fumbled way before he got near the ground.
The Packers are just....blaaah. Thats the best way to describe them. The offense stalls, the defense makes penalties.

Denver just looks horrible. the players are playing "stupid" Sorry, but that's coaching as much as the players. I've been a Shanahan apologist for awhile now. It's time to make a change. This team is going nowhere and it looks like half the team has simply quit. They deserve to be 0-2 after today.
Two games in and it's about time to start cheering for a high draft pick.

I tell Bronco fans all the time how spoiled we are. Really spoiled. a bad season over the last twenty years or so has been 8-8. (a couple worse ones, but not many)
It's about time for the collapse to happen. And it's looking more and more like this year will be the start of it.
Unless, that is, we can get Drew Brees to keep hitting Champ Bailey in perfect stride for TD's. My God that was a horrible play by the Chargers. I don't know what happened. If it was a miscommunication or if Brees made a poor read, but that was Kelly Stoufer ugly.

DOLA, The replay showed that that was all Drew Brees there. Eyed his WR the entire way and threw a duck. Wow. I think the ONLY way Denver had a prayer in this game was a defensive or special teams TD. They needed the crowd involved and they needed a spark.
And Brees gives them one on the first play of the second half. My God.

The Denver defense looks possessed right now. They look like they were told they'd be treated like the Iraqi soccer team if they didn't play with fire. A missed FG by Elam, but the Broncos are driving again, down 14-10.

1) 1 play, INT returned for TD
2) 3 plays and out, punt
3) 3 plays, fumble

No doubt about it. They are dominating in this second half. It's not that the Chargers are struggling on offense (like happened for a drive or two in the first half), Denver is just suffocating right now.

They shouldn't be leading. Denver should not only be winning this game, they should be winning it by two scores or more. 2 missed field goals, a fumble on the one yard line and getting taken out of field goal range twice with stupid penalties. Just an amazingly ugly performence by the Broncos. Their second in a row.
That said, the defense is just playing out of their mind right now. I can't think of a more dominating half of D than I've seen thus far this half.
They are putting pressure on the QB, suffocating the WR and Tomlinson doesn't have even a tiny crease to run through. Will the offense make a play or not?
I'm leaning on no right now. But if the defense keeps giving them enough chances, eventually you'd figure they'd make a play.

No, I'm not kidding you. Of course, I'm not saying the Denver Broncos defense of '05 is the '85 Bears either.
I said they've played like it for one half. This is one of the most dominating defensive performences for a Denver team in the last three decades. For one half. Actually, for one and a half quarters.
This is complete and total domination. And the Chargers are a GOOD offensive football team. This INT will come back and it'll be Chargers ball, but this is just incredible. Even on the last drive, the Chargers made some plays, but the biggest was a catch by Gates with two defenders draped all over him.
This is an amazing defensive performence from a team that could have mailed this thing in at halftime after the start they've had.

Honestly? It's just too early to talk division yet for anyone. The Chiefs have tough games left, including coming into Denver next week. Their defense is improved, but their offense is aging, especially the important part, that O-Line.
The Chargers are still a good football team. They have a tough road ahead, but I don't think it was as much your offense today as it was the Denver defense just dominating in the second half. Any team with LT, Gates and a solid defense isn't going to just go away.
And the Broncos have talent. Their defense has a chance to be something special, and they showed that in the second half. I wouldn't write them off yet, though they need to play more than a half to be anything more than the first round knockouts they usually are.
I'd wait about 6 weeks before making any assumptions about this division. I think all three teams still have a good shot. (I do discount the Raiders, that defense is just too bad.)

He struggled in the first half. Meanwhile the secondary was picked apart by Hasselbach.
He played much better in the second half. Had a couple of overthrows, but also a couple of dropped passes. The good thing for Falcons fans was that he didn't quit and neither did the team. He set up their last TD with a nice run (the one where he tweaked his hammy)
His numbers, while poor, weren't all that different from some of the drop back passers today (Manning 122 yards, Delhomme 154 (on 11-26), Brees 175 with an INT, or Carr with 167)

According to BuffaloBills.com the decision to wear the throwback uniforms again this week was based on a 75%+ positive response from the fans when they were asked if the team should use the uniform more often.
Will they do so again? Probably. When? Who knows.
Thanks. They should switch to them full-time, as the current uniforms are HIDEOUS.

The NFC North is horrible.
And stop being mad at the Broncos for that Super Bowl win. We deserved one, you already had 3. :)
3 Superbowls and 12 NFL titles overall. It looks like this year is once again a chance to look back on those.
And I will not stop being mad about that. Same head coach, and same ugly uniforms. I still do not like them.

Actually, in games 1 and 2 this year, the offense has needed the most help. Scoring on the first each game is nice and all, but when that is all you do for most the game, it doesn't help much.
The play selection is driving me nuts. I am just not sure what is going on. They seem to be playing with no desire to win I guess is the best way I can describe it.

Over-hyped? What have you been listening to man? I listen to mostly ESPN radio and NFL Radio, and most of those guys picked the Pack to come in last or 3rd in the division. I just didn't want to believe it. Hearing how the Packers have maybe the worst defense in the league started to drive me nuts, now I am accepting it.

I certainly didn't enjoy it, but their offense got their asses kicked. I don't know why they didn't throw any screens when Carolina started blitzing, thats something Weis always did and I figured it would carry over.
They still have some great pass blocking on the line, even when they blitzed Brady had enough time and should of gotten them off. Their run blocking is god awful though, I don't think it's Dillon. Their defense was solid though I though.
In anycase, it's tough to judge the character of a team after one loss. Let's not forget Week one two years ago.

I'm a little worried about the Chiefs offense tonight without Roaf. Instead of going more creative and utilizing their other weapons, I'm afraid they're going to go so vanilla and conservative that it will make matters worse.
Of course, on the bright side is that the Raiders always implode, witness the muffed punt.

Yep, one of Marty's shining moments against Denver. I'll let you live with that memory and not get into all the details of his Cleveland disasters or the 13 point lead he blew with about 4 minutes left in a game the Chiefs dominated. :)

You have to feel sorry for Marty. Over the year's he's evolved into the cause of Ernest Byner fumbling on the 1-yard line and the reason Lin Freakin' Elliott couldn't have hit water if he felt out of a freakin' boat, and for the sucking of Steve "Oh No!" Bono. The only playoff disaster I blame him for is giving the start to Elvis Grbac in '97 after he came back from the shoulder injury in place of Rich Gannon who was on a roll and had taken on the role of team leader.
And I always thought that the Broncos strategy against Marty and the Chiefs was to let the Chiefs dominate for 58 minutes and then let Elway ran around and throw the ball 70 yards across the field falling down. :)

In many of those games, Marty had the chance to put the other team and didn't do it. He let teams with no business of hanging around to not only hang around but to have the chance to win the game.
It's almost like he has some special knack for being aggressive at all the wrong times and passive at all the wrong times in a big game. FWIW, I think the two games this year are a perfect example of Marty finding ways to lose games.
Against Dallas, you have the ball at your five yard line, over a minute on the clock and instead of giving it to LT once, he throws the ball four times.
Today he's struggling badly against the Denver D. The Chargers can't get five yards, much less a first down. Where are the screens to LT? Where is a deep ball to Parker to try to stretch out the Denver D a little? Nowhere to be found. Well, nowhere to be found until the final two offensive plays the Chargers run that is. . . two deep passes into the end zone, the second nearly being picked off.
It's easy to armchair and I understand that. But sometimes Marty makes it real easy with his decisions.

You're right about the schedule. That's why a fast start is imperative. If they can get off 4-0, then go .500 the rest of the season, that's 10-6 and a probable playoff spot. I think if they do get off to a 4-0 start, they'll finish about 11-5, with an outside shot at 12-4. Suddenly, a few of those mid-season games that looked like possible L's are looking better for W's. Namely at Baltimore, where they won last season, and the Packers at home.

Hmm, not sure who expected much out of GB this season. Heck, only one out of 12 ESPN experts even pickd GB to make the wild card:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/preview05/news/story?id=2152292
Even the GB kool-aid drinkers felt this team was 8-8 or 9-7 at best. And, after the first two games, they look closer to a 6-10 team. Of course, Mike Sherman has it all figured out now as he is having players do wind-sprints in practice if they commit penalties in the game. The horror! Maybe if they commit two penalties they won't get any syrup with their morning waffles.
Sheesh, between his coaching and expert drafting, Sherman may have taken what was a very good team back into the dark years of the 80s. He makes Bart Starr and Forrest Gregg look like Vince Lombardi.
