Yes.

Jerry Goldsmith

Start with those. If you need more, let me know :)

Here's a good site for film score reviews, etc.

I have listened to a ton of movie music composers and most of my favorites are listed here.

Hans Zimmer is definately my favorite.

Mark Mothersbaugh has done outstanding work on Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.

Hans Zimmer is good, but I am a huge fan of E.S. Posthumus. They are not really newcomers since a lot of there music is recognizable in trailers, but they have had their music in a number of movies as well. I am eagerly awaiting for a new album, but their last album was named Unearthed. You will definitely recall at least one of their songs in a movie or trailer you watched over the years.

Anyways here is a link to hear the samples and read the reviews as well:

I was thinking he was talking about more modern guys, but I suppose any list should have Morricone and Bernard Hermann (the best, in my opinion).

Ah, another real good one i forget. I liked his score to I Heart Huckabees way better than the movie itself. Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind was also great.

Isn't he a director only?

Of course Ennio Morricone did the music for the cult classic "The Thing" by John Carpenter. Which was perfect for the film.

He made up the theme to "Halloween" while dinking around on a little keyboard, and I know he's done a ton of other ones: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000118/ .

"The Thing" appears to be one of the only ones he didn't compose.
