An open letter to members of FOFC (and the OOTP community too)
<hr style="color: rgb(170, 170, 170);" size="1"> <!-- / icon and title --> <!-- message --> I sent the following to SkyDog via PM here. But, given how many of us are on FOFC, I think it's appropriate here too. In many ways, this message is just as appropriate for the OOTP community as well. I've said many silly things on this forum as well and this might explain why I've toned things down so much.

SkyDog,

Take this message FWIW. These past few months in the classroom have really changed me, forced me to look at the world in a very different way, and the future will only continue to mold even further. I work in an innercity school, with some tough students, and have learned so much about compassion. I've learned how much of an impact I have on the kids I see on a dailiy basis. While other teachers look down on them, fail them, or refuse to give them a chance, I look to help them do what others have told them isn't possible -- excel.

Being a teacher forces you to reflect. So you know, I've spent several months going back through posts I had made on FOFC and I started asking myself why I made those posts. How could I be so stupid to say the things I did? My comments were foolish, stupid, and without thought. I said hurtful things to so many people that I so dearly regret. To those I hurt, a heartfelt apology. I would never say those things today. I've learned how important it is to respect others, keep my mouth shut, and move on when necessary. Leading class discussions is like being the moderator of a forum. I've had students try to bait me into saying things, but I've learned to redirect and move on. Imagine had I done that before. I probably never would have been banned, would be a fruitful and productive member of FOFC, and perhaps better respected by my peers in the FOFC community.

Once again, my sincerest apologies to you and the entire FOFC community. I'm sorry for the hurtful comments, the mindless babble, and regret the stupid things I did on FOFC. If I could take those comments back - I would. If I could remove those comments from the forum - I would. I know I can't, but I do know that I can go back and finally admit my mistakes, what I've learned, etc.

Many blessings to you and the FOFC community this holiday season and in the New Year.

mrskippy

I can't believe how much people care about a message board. I mean, I enjoy my time here, but if I was forced to leave for whatever reason, I wouldn't emote all over the place in grandiose fashion.

Not that I would write a letter like mrskippy wrote, but I have made some friends here I never would have if it wasn't for FOFC... so to me it's a little bit more than your normal run of the will message board. To each his own I guess.

He did do and say some stupid things, but really, how many chances did HM get? Letting him come back won't bother me at all. He already knows he would have to take a lot of shit just for coming back. If he is serious it shouldn't be an issue. If not, easy solution.

The only way for him to ever be respected here is to retire mrskippy and start with a new username. Sorry.Problem is, that has already been tried. He botched that one, too.

The thread about the board ownership and this one convince me that there's some serious revisionist thinking going on around here. He was given TWO second-chances, one with a new name (with my blessing/knowledge), and another as mrskippy. He went over the top and got himself banned both times, and he also created and posted under at least two new accounts while under suspension/banning. He's done more to justify a perma-ban-without-reconsideration than anyone I've dealt with. Further, I don't read anywhere in his post that he explicitly is asking to be reinstated, anyway. Still, I find myself actually considering it. Sheesh. Why, you ask? Read on.

The fact is that I genuinely feel sorry for the guy. I'm convinced that Horns/wigs/druez types chooseto behave the way they do on the boards. I'm sure those four in particular are perfectly capable of being "normal" members, but they seem to get a kick out of controversy, and for that I don't particularly begrudge them, but look-at-me posters create more problems than whatever entertainment value they bring, and that's why they're gone. On the other hand, from what I could tell, mrskippy wasn't acting like a jerk just to be a jerk. He truly seemed completely incapable of avoiding it. That's the sad part to me. IF I can be convinced that he's truly changed and IF he explicitly were to ask for a reinstatement, I'd consider it, but it wouldn't be in the next few days/weeks, and it would unquestionably be under a new and unrelated screen name. It would have to be a situation like Braggadocious, where he just shows up as a new poster, doesn't post 40-something times in one day (Yes, mrskippy did that under his new name the first time), and flies under the radar for an extended period of time.

I understand him on some way, I would really hate to be banned from FOFC as i have good virtual friends here, i enjoy a lot talking about games, or having fun with jokes, or learning other countries cultures and traditions. I have the board always open in an IE session as i work from home so that way i feel i'm not alone, it's like working in a big room where you can raise your eyes from your computer screen to talk about something with any of your work mates to relax a bit from the work. Then after 10 minutes of talking, i go back to my screen to work. Else probably i would get burned so fast from working alone from home.

I also think that some ppl here takes other board members words too seriously. I agree banning board spammers, trolls that only do damage on every post with racist or illegal writing, or that keep posting the same crap in every thread not related, but i don't have a problem with the usual board trolls as i can always ignore them or even have a fight from time to time to send out part of your daily stress in real life, that is the only that matters. I could even get something positive on arguing with a Nazi in a board for example, to know about his reasons to think that way etc. If the thread starts to have more insults than positive discussion then i just leave it and read another one. The only thing that could want me that Nazi banned is if he posted his Nazi crap every time in a FOF strategy thread for example, but if it's into a political thread, well, everybody has a voice even if i don't like what they say.

There are some guys in all the message boards that really anyone me, because they look so stupid or always looking for a fight, sometimes i engage in the fight and most of the times i just ignore them. As i have said before, nothing a guy can say in a message board can really offend me to the point of wanting him banned. If i'm called stupid, probably i'll do it back, but apart from that, what is the real problem? What happens if somebody doesn't agree with me and we start a virtual fight? it's virtual, we can't hit each other so no any possible damage can be done to me. What could be the worst, to be called son of a bitch in a message board? well i'm 30 years old, i don't care what anybody in a message board can say about my loved mother when they don't really know me or her.

Maybe it's because i have been working in internet for 8 years already and have been part tons of different virtual communities full of trolls, but i can fully separate the real and virtual worlds and i don't react the same to the same things on each one.

I would end saying that i would give most the banned members a second, third, whatever chance if they ask forgiving. If they act like a troll again, then just ban them again, it takes seconds to click on the ban/unban button.

Had some enterprising soul purchased a bunch of order IDs for .400 Software Studios games, they would have been free to re-sell those items on their own (whether it be through eBay, through a display box at a store, etc.) so long as they sold the game with both licenses (intact).

Was a good idea to close it. We couldn't have him banned from another forum would we? He had more than enough time to get the game purchased, and admitted he didn't do everything in his power to buy the game.

Complain all he wishes, but I never received any notes for a game license release from the .400 support email, as I handle those. The only notification he was trying to buy another game was asking me to forward the message to Farrah about him wanting to purchase the game.

No official request was made before December 31st, although there was movement today, much past the oft-discussed publicized deadline.

The guy PM'ed me at every message board he's aware I'm a member of (except here, thanks SD for making this my skippy free zone), sent me emails to my .400 email, my personal email and my blog email....the lengths skippy is going to get this game is really really frightening.Just wait until he digs up your rose bushes and you wake up to find the head of Wilbur Wildcat in the bed between you and Arlie.

Just wait until he digs up your rose bushes and you wake up to find the head of Wilbur Wildcat in the bed between you and Arlie. Not five minutes after my last post did I get an email from the OOTP boards...I have another skippy PM waiting for me. Do I dare check it?

I think I'm going to bed instead. I've had a really rough day.

I think it's safe to say that regarding the "letter", I call BS.

Ok, now that is just plain weird. It seems to me that he has copied you because he knows he will be the topic of discussion on a number of boards. For whatever reason, he likes being the center of controversy.

... but also wipe out everything he has ever done in the realm of the internet.

And you would limit this wish to the internet because ??? What, you've got something against the offline world?

the lengths skippy is going to get this game is really really frightening.

This comment by She-Rahn actually led to my biggest laugh in the whole thread.
Doesn't it seem virtually inevitable that once he gets the game that he'll absolutely hate it & drive himself (and others) batty complaining about it?

I'm in this one too. Yippee. I was hoping for a respite when he said on the OOTP boards that he was tired of TCY and FOF. But no, I've got mail, too.

If he gets TPF, and spots as much as one typo in the documentation, watch for a 40-page treatise on how Farrah herself is legally obligated to come to his house and personally correct it.

Nah, I just like talking with smart women (According to my wife, that is all I'm allowed to do). Arles I'd like to have over for coffee, and chain him to a computer until he fixes BBCF. :)

I'm thinking you just hit on the Rahn family adults Halloween costume theme for 2006.

She-Rahn as pimpdaddy, He-Rahn as a Stewart Avenue working girl.
(For those who don't know that area of the ATL, Arlie in drag would be about par for the course there)

You can put the Little-Rahn on a chain and he can be the bling.
