Ichiro led off the game with a solo shot, but Peavy settled down to get out of the inning with no other damage.

Bottom of the 1st - Jeter just beat out a sac bunt to put guys on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Griffey up.

This is a big spot here... man on 1st, 2nd - 2 outs, Ichiro up. Fuentes having some control issues.

Get him out!

oykib
03-12-2006, 05:38 PM
That was just weird with the sac fly...

This'll lead to controversy.

TazFTW
03-12-2006, 05:38 PM
This is where people say the WBC is rigged for the US.

VPI97
03-12-2006, 05:40 PM
It seemed to me that there was a definite possibility that he left early...for such a shallow fly ball, the runner scored awfully easy.

edit - just saw the replay and I couldn't tell either way

VPI97
03-12-2006, 05:40 PM
Nope...he didn't leave early.

THE FIX IS IN!!!

oykib
03-12-2006, 05:43 PM
On the replay doesn't look like he left early.

oykib
03-12-2006, 05:44 PM
The US better score at least two runs now.

I tell you it's funny watching the Japanese broadcast.

They showed the replay like twice. Finally the color guy goes, "It doesn't look like he left early, huh?" Then they didn't mention it again.

They just showed on the game-til-now recap and barely mentioned the controversy. They showed that the manager came out to chat about it with the ump. But there was nothing about how terrible the call was.

wait, there's more than that going on right now? they show the replay every time there's a stoppage of play on espn.

YES!!

Nice strikeout from Lidge to end the ninth.

oykib
03-12-2006, 06:02 PM
Lidge was giving me a case of nerves there. Nice strikeout, though.

VPI97
03-12-2006, 06:09 PM
Wow...can't belive they didn't get the out there.

1st and 2nd with no outs in the ninth for the US.

Easy Mac
03-12-2006, 06:11 PM
uh oh. japan may call foul. however, it is obvious he never touched the bag (never in the sense that never before wynn was safe)

VPI97
03-12-2006, 06:12 PM
Nice play to get the guy at third.

oykib
03-12-2006, 06:12 PM

Nope they only showed the screen-within-a-screen twice.

When wells came up they mentioned it for the first time since that inning.

BTW, terrible bunt.

Solecismic
03-12-2006, 06:12 PM
That was a bunting situation and it illustrates exactly why you should never bunt unless it's absolutely necessary or the defense is horribly out of position.

Easy Mac
03-12-2006, 06:13 PM
too much fucking bunting.

and slide into the bag, don't lift your leg up like a dog taking a piss. young was 3-4 today, just let him hit

VPI97
03-12-2006, 06:13 PM
And he nails Jeter...bases loaded, one out with my man Griffey up.

oykib
03-12-2006, 06:13 PM
What are they booing about?

That obviously wasn't intentional.

Easy Mac
03-12-2006, 06:14 PM

Seeing eye single up the middle, they would have had no shot at the double play.

Great quality baseball.

Not without four outs in an inning, either.

BigDPW

I saw the 9th inning after having missed most of the second half of the game... That was a great bottom of the ninth... I couldn't believe the umps overturned that call when the Japanese player tagged up...

This is where people say the WBC is rigged for the US. Yeah, I don't see how in the world that guy reportedly left early. I could understand a bad call, but not overturning the call to produce the out.
