Let me start out by saying I've read this board for years, but never posted. In that time I've come to have a high respect for the various viewpoints and opinions of the posters.
My problem is this, I've been with a girl for a little over 2 years now. Im 20 and she's 17. We had a little argument and broke up a month or so ago. Yet recently we've gotten back together and see each other in secret. During the time off it made us both realize just how great the other one was and we came back appreciating each other more than ever. This girl's mom does not want her to see me, not because I'm a bad guy, but rather because the mom has nothing better to do than live vicariously through her daughter and wants to be able to brag to her middle aged friends about who her daughter is dating, and I guess I just don't make that exciting of a story anymore. She threatens her daughter to not see me and stuff like that. I could understand if I was a bad guy or mean to her but I've always treated her so well. Her daughter loves me very much and I love her very much. I've always been a gentlemen to her and treated her above and beyond what most guys do for their girl. Anyway we're trying to figure out a way to break it to her mom without her getting in too much trouble, and not being able to see me ever again. Yes I do realize that we can't keep it secret forever. I was just wondering if maybe any of you guys have been in similar situations and have some sort of advice or helpful insight. Her and I have a really special connection and I don't want to lose that because of her mother. Any advice at all would be much appreciated and if u need more info just let me know,,,,Thanks!!

What's the legal age of consent. Not sure you would want to piss mom off when you could get a statuatory rape charge. 18 and 15.....that's warning bells for a relationship right there.
JustAnotherGuy

I know,,,Its not really about that anyway. Its just one of those things where I met this girl when I was a little under 18, and we fell for each other. I always keep in mind, if I had a daughter how would I want the guy dating her to treat her. My intentions are perfectly honorable. I used to be pretty tight with the mom anyway, but she just got bored of me I guess.

Why did you break up once?
JustAnotherGuy
05-28-2006, 08:41 PM
It wasn't really a break up. It was just kind of one of those time apart things. We kind of just needed to take a step back and see what we wanted. Like I told her if she had some wildness in her system or needed to see what was out there it was best to do it now, and get it out of her system than always wonder if she's with the right guy. Basicaly she figured out most guys aren't respectful and are only trying to get one thing.

I'm interested as to what other people will say. 20 and 17 is a huge difference in levels of maturity and responsibility. If you have your own apartment, pay the bills, deal with the consequences of her, it's cool. If not, there's no real good that can come out of a 17 year old girl being in a committed relationship with a guy that's 3 years older than her.

In a few months she'll be 18 anyway I guess. However, Is being 2 and a half years older than someone really that big of a difference in the grand scheme of things? I mean, I know a lot of couples around here who have much bigger age differences, such as 25 year olds dating high schoolers, which I do feel is extreme. However, around here its just kinda accepted I guess. Should I maybe write a letter to the mom and just say something along the lines of your daughter and I care for each other and would like to see one another every once in a while. The reason I ask is that yeah I do care about her and I want what is best for her, and if it really isn't in her best interest to be dating someone of my age than yeah I think we can wait a bit. However, we're really kind of at the same place in life right now, I live with my parents and goto college, so I'm not like out on my own. I also don't drink or do anything like that. Im a good kid. I have no problem with asking the mother's permission and if we can't get it waiting. It would hurt but I'd do it.

Obligatory, "That's what I love about these high school girls, man. I get older, they stay the same age" reference.
Make sure you don't knock her up, that's my main advice in all of this. I had a kid at 23, and it took us a long time to get to okay, if you want life to turn out like you hope, just make sure that you wrap it up.

It doesn't matter that this girl is almost 18 now. You were 18 and she was 15 when you started dating. In most states, you face a real risk of statuatory rape charges (even if that wasn't what the relationship was about.) Mom can press those charges YEARS after the fact in most states, and therefore you are certainly still at risk for stuff you may have done a year or two ago. Therefore, you better be very careful about pissing her mom off, which might mean not seeing the girl...

Ben is a winner. i'm sorry, when Ben and Peyton are naked in a locker room after a long day of golf and Peyton is all "i tossed a record 49 touchdowns" Ben will stand there with (hopefully) a fat flacid penis and say "does this championship ring make me look fat? Ben will always be A OK in my book. when i was in Vegas in '05 i had $10 in my pocket and i put it down on the Steelers to win on my wife's hunch. steelers started out like fags and i was like "well, it was only $10, not like the Steelers were gonna win a bleeping championship anyway just cuz i bet on them" and he stood up with his robust male genitalia - he literally stood up - and decided this was the year he was gonna make the Steerlers a winner. i won $110 cuz it was 10-1 odds and now i will spend that money in Vegas this year when i go with my friends June 14-19. i might spend that money on whores or booze or whores pouring booze on themselves.

I'm pretty suprised you can get busted for that. I would have thought it would take some evidence like a pregnancy(which i would think would be the main thing that proves this) or a post-coital swab confirming the evidence. Or some used condoms or something.

3 > 0
At any rate, you surely can't argue that Brady isn't a handsomer man than Peyton.
Back to your original post, as the dad of a teenager, I suspect that you and your girlfriend are misinterpreting the cause of her mom's concern about you. Although her concern may be misplaced, I doubt it is for the reason stated.
You might first look at yourself through her mom's eyes and try to figure out the real concern she has about you. Then you might consider what you can do -- within reason -- to ease that concern.
Maybe, for example, she thinks you hurt her daughter emotionally durng the breakup. I also wonder what daughter might have told mom about you during the breakup.
I bet there is more to mom's concern than you think, and that the key is figuring out what her real problem is.

the plural of trout is trout. trouts is also acceptable in some circles.

Did I miss the memo where it said that it was OK to get gay over professional quarterbacks?
It was actually not a "memo", it was a "mome". This is like a "meme" in that it is a made-up concept that doesn't describe anything real, but it differs in spelling.

I'm interested as to what other people will say. 20 and 17 is a huge difference in levels of maturity and responsibility.
Agree with that statement wholheartedly. The year from 17 to 18, or 18 to 19 (the whole first year out of HS, in college/working thing) is a HUGE jump in terms of maturity.
Other than that, I have nothing...except wondering who'd win in a fight between Peyton and that drunken, idiot kicker.

I think Payton would win out of persistence alone. You know, he would out last him. The idiot kicker is just lazy.

Speaking of kickers -- do any of you have any advice on how I can live with watching the Pats play the evil Colts and not cheer for Vinatieri? I'm heartbroken over this and I don't know how I can deal with it.
*sniff*
I ask you fine folks over in FoFC because I have a high respect for the various viewpoints and opinions of all the posters.
... except those damn liberals, but they like the Colts so they don't count. :)

If you have your own apartment, pay the bills, deal with the consequences of her, it's cool. If not, there's no real good that can come out of a 17 year old girl being in a committed relationship with a guy that's 3 years older than her.
I don't necessarily agree with you. My fiancee' and I started dating when I was 22 and she was 17. It's been nearly seven years since our first date and we're better now than ever. Now, I'm not trying to say that it works out that way most of the time, because I know it doesn't, but the sweeping generalization that "there's no real good that can come out of a 17 year old girl being in a committed relationship with a guy that's 3 years older than her" is bullshit.
Well, with steers taken, we know where Aikman fits according to the infamous stament about Texas.
Troy's actually from Oklahoma. Blech...

I'm 20 presently and I say if she's good enough for community college she's tolerable for me.
