ok so 2nd break. I have 62K. 2nd is 42K. 3rd is 35K 4-5th is 20K. Very nervous. Never have done this well before. I'm not the best player at the table so I'm going to try to get the chips in preflop mostly.

Ok this kind of rocks even a bit more than I thought. Here is the full deal:
* $10,000 entry into the Main Event (Event 39, no-limit texas hold’em, Friday, July 28 - Thursday, August 10, 2006.
* $3,000 for 15 nights hotel stay at the Rio All Suite Hotel & Casino from July 27 to August 10, 2006, inclusive; departing on August 11, 2006.
* $2,000 funded to your account for travel and spending money.
If exit early which will probably happen then I also get:
* $1000 entry into Event 40 (no-limit texas hold ‘em, Thursday, August 3, 2006, 11am)
* Entry into $200k Freeroll at the Gold Coast Hotel and Casino (12noon, Saturday August 5th, 2006
I kind of wish I could just sell the seat and take all that cash. That is a decent bit more than my entire bankroll right now so the cold hard cash would be very useful. That said it should be a hellva time and if I could cash that would be awesome.
So if I could ask for advice from FOFC since I have never been to vegas. I know there have been some threads in the past so I will be looking them but up if anyone wants to add anything here that would be great.
1) Restaurants. We will probably be going over $2,000 for 15 nights so nice restaurants and nice, cheap, restaurants would be useful.
2) After I get knocked out early I'll have time to enjoy vegas so what stuff do you recommend I see?
3) Books. I currently own HOH1&2 and Phil Gordon's green book. I'll be getting HOH3 and Sklansky's tourney book tonight or tomorrow. What else should I be studying?
Thanks,
ps. I am sooooo dead money.

Congrats on winning the seat. Read all the HOHs again and maybe try a few deep stack tournaments online if you don't have much experience in them. I'm not sure about interpoker, but pokerstars has some good ones with big fields that may be helpful in learning how to play a deep stack with small blinds early and long level up intervals.

I meant to ask earlier, but how did you get entered in this freeroll? Did you have to win one or more satellites to get into it, or were you just able to enter straight away? How many people started the tourney? Inquiring minds want to know. :)

Thanks again for all the support in this thread. Especially Lathum for the mini-play by play there. I'll be picking up HOH3 and Caro's book tonight. I have only played live a couple of times so hopefully that will help.

I got into this freeroll by placing in the top 40 of a freeroll yesterday. 54 people entered that and 10 never logged in so that wasn't too hard. There were 127 people in this one but 5 didn't show so really 122. The freeroll was sponsered by raketherake who is my interpoker (and other sites) rakeback affiliate. If you are looking for a great rakeback deal and some nice extras like this they are the best in the business. As I posted at 92o I had a few things go my way early and I got really lucky with my coin flips.

I strongly disagree. I think there is much more out there in tourney strategy books. I like Phil Gordon's Little Green Book and the Eric Lindgren book for live poker.

Sure there is much more out there, but most of it is crap. I haven't read Lindgren's book, but I own and have read Gordon's book. It is good. I still stand by statement.
The things you need to know to be successful in Multi-Table tournaments is in the HoH series.

I completely agree with this. Before I read the HoH series, I'd never made it to a final table in a MTT, closest I ever came was a 17th place finish. After reading the books, I've been to 5 final tables, with a 2nd place, 2 3rd place, a fifth and sixth place finishes.

1) Restaurants. We will probably be going over $2,000 for 15 nights so nice restaurants and nice, cheap, restaurants would be useful.
I've had two of the best meals of my life in Vegas, one at the SW at the Wynn and one at the House of Blues Foundation Room atop the Mandalay Bay. Luckily, I didn't have to pay for either, but if you can splurge one night, I highly recommend both. Reservations are likely required for both.
I think the general consensus is that the buffet at the Alladin is the best buffet. I fall into that camp.
The burger bar in the shops at Mandalay Bay is a good burger experience.
There's a hidden "healthy" restaurant at the Venetian spa (I can't think of the name of it), that is a reasonably lunch/brunch option. Really good food that is light and healthy, without sacraficing good flavor.
If other ideas come to me, I'll post them.
Congrats!

One caution: Do not over read books. Will it help? Yes.. but if you overdo it, you will paralyze your game, becoming too mechanical
Subby

Honestly, I think trying to read and digest all three harringtons (and caro) over such a short period of time is going to be counter-productive. For starters, forget Caro. It really has little value for you in this situation - you aren't going to get any reads that trump your hand and pattern reading anyway. If you make a call based purely on reads it will be so obvious that you will have realized it independent of anything Caro taught you.
My strategy for Harrington would be to go straight to the workbook and start working through the problems and then refer back to 1 and 2 to fill in on stuff like M and Q and inflection points. The workbook really is exceptional and has fantastic practical examples. Spend as much time as you can on it. Once you have finished with it, then I would spend time on re-reading the stuff you referenced while using the workbook.
As far as other perspectives are concerned, don't worry about that right now. Get a solid gameplan/strategy down and you'll go in ahead of many in the field that tried to cram years of poker knowledge into a tiny little hole.

FWIW I don't think this is good advice. Although I think your intent is in the right place and you are probably thinking along the same lines as Subby.
He has two weeks until the world series. I know people read at different speeds, but I believe HoH 1 and 2 can be read and comprehended in two weeks time. If you are trying to do it in a night then yeah you are much better off just skimming things, but over two weeks you can digest the important points.

Thanks for the restaurant stuff digamma. That will certainly be useful. As for over studying for this thing I hope that won't be a problem. I feel really comfortable with my low M play and I am not really going to worry about short table stuff. So I think I am going to go over the deep stack stuff in HOH 1, hit the workbook, and fill in as needed. Thanks everyone for support/advise. I hope I can write up a trip report 1/4 as good as the one Subby is writing.

Just for clarification dixie can you define for us your situation? My understanding is you already have HoH 1 and 2 and you have read them and understand them. If that is the case then I believe there is a lot of value to picking up III. Probably rereading the key sections of 1 and 2 (just skim through 1. 2 is more important IMO) and then just working through problems in III. Especially ones that deal with areas you think you struggle with.
Don't worry about any other books. Yes there is value in some of the other books, but given time constraints and the fact that at the end of the day I still think HoH is the best info out there I think you are better off ignoring everything else.
If I am wrong and you haven't readany of the HoH books and you have very little experience in MTTs then by Kill Phil. ;)
Also if you want some practice in Deep Stack tournamnets, Stars runs some deep stack mtts almost everyday I believe. I know Wednesday's they have a $22 NL tourney. 5000 chips and 30 min blind levels.
