As many of you might be aware, I enjoy running games here at FOFC. The opportunity to have a community of individuals involved in a game is entertaining and enticing. I’ve tossed out quite a few, and a couple of those have actually worked. Others have flopped, and mainly for that reason I want to float these ideas in a poll format to determine (a) if there is any interest at all, and if so, (b) what idea would attract the most participation?
The poll choices listed above represent ideas I have for either interactive games or dynasty concepts for FOFC. I have tinkered with some concepts for all of them, some more than others. Basically, I am trying to get an idea if any of these are worth continuing to fruition. Feel free to ask any questions.
Interactive Pirate Game/Dynasty
This would be an open-ended, interactive dynasty. Each participant plays a pirate in an imaginary time and place similar to the “Golden Age of Piracy” in our own world history. The object is to accumulate reputation and treasure. Each pirate has a ship and a crew. The pace of the dynasty would be leisurely, and at times sporadic. This will not be a “check-it-every-hour” kind of thing, nor will there be any pressure to meet deadlines. The idea is to have a fun, persistent FOFC pirate community that slowly but surely evolves. The system itself may evolve as well. The dynasty will be processed in turns. The time between turns will be an uncertain period of real-life time; basically, whenever I am able to process them. You may post and edit your actions up until the turn is posted by myself as locked, after which I will process everyone’s actions. Most things in the game are based on a ten-sided die roll, which is abbreviated as d10. The system is intended to be simple and easy to pick up.
Fantasy War Game/Dynasty
This would be a match-up of two opposing sides in a fantasy RPG setting. This would cover a campaign at the operational level, and focus down to the tactical level when necessary. One side is the The Empire and the other side is an alliance of kingdoms. Approximately 10-12 players would play the roles of military commanders for the two sides. The emphasis would be heavily upon role-playing and interchanges between the players. Casual players need not apply – this would target more of the hardcore RPG players and those interested in military history. There would not be a “system” to the game, but rather it would be based upon text descriptions of settings and events by myself.
Battle Sport Game/Dynasty
The concept is to combine elements of a sports management sim with the drama and intensity of a tactical war game. The game will be set in a fantasy world I created for another game several years ago. The world is comprised of around 20 kingdoms, each with unique qualities, strengths, and weaknesses that will carry over to the teams and characters in the game.
The real-life players of “Battle Sport” will each manage a team. Teams are comprised of the various characters who fight the battles. Team success is determined by prestige, which is a combination of battle success, wealth, and the collective prestige of the team’s characters. Each character will be rated for various abilities and skills, such as speed, strength, agility, melee, etc. They will improve some of these abilities through experience and training, and will develop special maneuvers and skills as they become battle-hardened veterans. They are professional heroes (that is, they are not slaves). They will be paid, commensurate with their value, and finances will be a part of the game. They will be individuals who have personalities, with all the consequences that entails.
Classic RPG
A party-based adventure in classic RPG style. This would take the “Sol the Thief/Archer” concept and expand it to several characters, each run by one (or perhaps two) FOFC members.
= = = = = = = = = =
Please Note: This is a non-Kodos poll. Any similarities to a Kodos poll are both unintentional and strictly coincidental. Hopefully, this poll is also not asinine.
