First season is tonight...should be pretty interesting. I'm really only familiar with the more recent teams since I only started watching in season 7. Hopefully it's a pretty good one.

I haven't watched this since the family edition. I might have to check this season out. Weren't Rob and Amber supposed to be doing a reality show where Rob tried his hand at being a professional poker player?

Yes, they did a reality show together on the Fox Reality Channel. The first season ended last week and the final episode shows them being invited to participate on Amazing Race: All Stars. They spent part of the episode showing them having a hard time deciding whether to participate and coming up with strategy. Part of the plan was to race with little or no bags.

He did a good job as a poker player and they decided on the last episode to buy a house in Vegas after they got back from All Stars. I imagine that they will have a second season of their show after the Amazing Race.

They are the first couple of reality television, are a perfect couple, and seem to be doing well. I'm finding myself rooting for them this season on Amazing Race.

Unlike past seasons, I have several favorites this time to root for. One of the teams I hated was booted tonight.

I'm rooting for the original clowns, Kevin and Drew but Drew was slowing them down and they were lucky to survive. It only took 1 episode to remind me as to why I hate Mirna and Schmirna. May Team Kentucky eliminate Rob and Amber.

I'm glad that I am not the only one. Can't stand that Ian guy either, forgot about him until he opened his mouth the first time.

I don't mind Rob and Amber though. They are attention whores but I like them as a team. They seem to have a plan and stay focussed as they go and don't seem to have the drama that all other teams go through.

This could be an interesting season to watch.

I would have liked to see Colin and Christy, the second set of clowns and maybe the wrestlers or Jonathan and whatever his wife's name was (the last two just for the drama).

I've only watched one season of Amazing Race - the one with Rob and Amber. I'll be watching this one and rooting for them again.

As someone else said, it is pretty obvious that they are just smarter than at least most of these people.

I appreciate Rob and Amber's competitiveness, and it does look like they're working on an entirely different level than the rest of the people on the show. Still, I could do without the one-on-one interview with Amber where they wax poetic on their own self-importance.

My wife and I are probably going to root for the two blondes, who don't seem to be bad people at all, yet everyone seems to hate them. Case in point, when Kentucky lied to them about the Copa vs. American flight last night it was no big deal. However, had the blondes done that to anyone, I'm sure the UN would have had to step in with peace-keeping troops because the blondes are "horrible people who will do anything to win."

Even though they're the only previous winners, I'm rooting for Uchenna and Joyce. They won me over when Joyce shaved her head in the season they won. I'm also rooting for Dustin and Kandice (Beauty Queens) and Kevin and Drew.

I hope that the Hillbillies (Kentucky) and Charla and Mirna get booted next. Rosie O'Donnell already gave the Hillbillies a new house and a dental plan for their kids, so they don't need to win...not only that, but they have little race skills other than the occassional dose of luck.

The fact they have on the older couple again makes the show. Damn near peed myself when the old guy is yelling at his wife "Hump it! Hump it!" on one of the seasons. Guy berated that poor woman the whole trip. She's like 70 going up this steep hill and the guy is yelling at her.

Agreed. They look like a couple that is having a lot of fun living life to the fullest at CBS' expense while building up quite a nest egg and college funds for the eventual kids. They're getting everything they can from CBS before it is time to officially settle down.

And they are fierce competitors, but can also generally separate competition from personal. I loved Rob's "There, I did something nice, and it KILLED me to do it" bit.

I really wish there was a better way to handle this. If there is someone out there that is so dominating in this game, let them be able to use it. If they show up somewhere two hours before everyone else, they shouldn't have to wait until the next morning to keep moving; just so everyone can catch up and be even again.

Make the game harder in some way or another and allow it for someone to be a full day ahead of someone and still have a chance to screw it up. It might not make for good TV, but man, allowing everyone to catch up every single episode sucks.

This is the reason I don't watch. Using Rob and Amber several seasons ago was a good chance to draw in fans of Survivor - it did for me. I enjoy the characters that are Rob and Amber, I'm not a big fan of the game that is Amazing Race. There is far too much leveling that goes on for me to really get into the show itself.

The Mirna/Schmirna "Holier than Thou" thing is what makes me hate them... They did it with the pulling over, they did it with saying "Oh, Dave and Mary are gonna pass us, so that's how it is?!" when they had just passed Dave and Mary, and it looks like they go nutso on the older couple in the next episode.

I agree Rob and Amber are playing so far above the other teams. The funny part last night was when Amber stood up to Rob and then got slapped down in the post-interview.

The Roadblock last night was good, but the follow-up was lame. Any advantage gained in doing it quickly was negated by the fact that they had to fly to the next task. All the teams bunched up together.

They only ended up bunched up because the first flight was delayed. Romber (I like that) and Team Cha-Cha-Cha would have been 40 minutes early into the next stop if they had been screwed at the layover. They only end up bunched up when there is only one flight option.

And I loved the fact that despite getting screwed, those two teams jumped ahead of everyone and came in 1-2 again. I agree that these are the teams to beat, barring something unlucky like a car breakdown.

The teams in the back right now definitely deserve to be there.

I think it can be a poorly designed show, but it takes a good team to realize that every mistake is not fatal. You see teams who are jumping at eachother's throats because they can't get it done fast, but in reality it's like 3 am and there's no way that the next thing won't be something they can't catch up to. Teams need to relax and know there will be a tomorrow and never is there an episode where there is no catch-up point somewhere along the way. Also, it gives cunning teams a chance to help out the other teams and know that there's likely no penalty to do so and can command some kind of help back at an important time...it's goodwill.

Sure, it's not as fun for us, but a smart team could capitalize on the design of the show.

But seriously, what South American town has a travel agency open at midnight???? I mean, maybe CBS said to stay open just in case anyone thought of it, but still. It was cool to see the other teams decide to use the hotel/internet option. Though, I really don't know why the other teams were so trusting of Uchena and Joyce of getting them their tickets. I'm also more impressed with the older couple every time I see them...they aren't the best team and probably won't win, but they sure are the steadiest and have their heads on straight.

Rob is going to shoot himself when he finds out that all he did was spell one thing wrong and it cost them the whole game. Interpreted the clue right about which city to start and end with and then blew it on a spelling error.

For ratings it'd be good for them to come in 2nd again...however, if they came in first I think it would be bad for the show and the network. The way they were rolling in the first three episodes, it looked like there was no way that they would lose. When the opportunity arose, I think Race and CBS took it to bump them out.

Besides, although I hate em Charla and Mirna are far more entertaining.

I think Rob and Amber fit that category and maybe the beauty queens. It would have been nice to have seen Colin and Christy and John and Chris (both teams are easily all-star calliber). Maybe even Jonathan and Victoria too (need to be annoyed).

I guess a good question would be what 11 teams would you like to see pitted against each other?

Rob and Amber
Colin and Christy
John and Kris
BJ and Tyler
Chris and Alex
Tara and Wil
Jonathan and Victoria
Ian and Teri

Freddy and Kendra
Uchenna and Joyce

Not just one fall, but two.. both equally as funny. I can't believe I am making fun of a midget though. That's pretty sad of me. Ah, well, just this once.

A very interesting couple of episodes - if for no other reason than to address the 'planes line everyone up the same'. I like the tactic of "You're on this flight now, but if you can find a better one, have fun."

I thought the Blondes got seriously screwed by the Intersection, but they came out of it well. This continues to be a solid season, imho.

Yeah, the end there with Uchenna and Joyce and Danny and Oswald jumping onto the mat at the same time... umm, we only have one prize though. C'monnnn now. You put them together going into the Fast Forward it only makes sense to let them win together. Jeez.

The D&O gives their vacation to the millionaires. Damn

Well, didn't D&O already win a first-place prize this season?

Great TV right there. They should send that in for their Emmy clip.
Who are the people in the background? They're not actual customers, are they?

Other teams.

Pretty much a snoozer last night with Uchena and Joyce out of it pretty much from the start. Can't believe they would take that risk given the 45 minute rule on international flights.

But, we had some drama because the other teams had to assume they were ahead of them as scheduled (although, shouldn't the group yeilded have figured out that they weren't last because of the clues left in the box?)

I change my mind, I think "riding the pony" should be their Emmy clip. Horrible leg for the Cha-Chas but I'm still rooting for them to win because the other teams annoy me.

Didn't really like any of the finalists but I guess I am happy with the winners not being Charla and Mirna.

I don't understand why a clue would read fly to San Francisco and they all book flights to Oakland. I have flown on several HNL-SFO flights and all of them were earlier than the 11:00PM flight to Oakland.

This finale reinforced why I don't like this show.

I doubt I'll be watching next season, which proves that Rob and Amber are the only thing that will get me watching this show.

My guess: the clue said they have to fly to Oakland. Sometimes the clues have additional info that they don't read on tv, and i'm guessing the producers knew that they all would be on the same flight, which would make for better tv when they were all doing the final safe / question challenge before the finish line.

I felt that this was the worst finale on the race.

I thought the safe-combination thing was one of the more interesting tasks, particularly for a group that has done this before. That said, we were rooting for the blondes, but are happy it wasn't Charla & Mirna.

So basically the entire episode boiled down to one stupid challenge - every other part of the last leg put the 3 teams on even ground, all of the challenges except the last one were meaningless.

How this show wins an emmy every year is redonkulous.

I thought this had turned into one of the more interesting seasons, as they didn't have very many "everyone on the same flight", and in fact flight choice was a major factor in many of the legs.

And then they threw it all away at the end. That was an interesting challenge for earlier in the race, although I would have set a much longer time limit. I think they were hoping for a footrace to the finish (note that they tried to hint at this in the previews last week) and didn't quite make it.

But like everyone else, at least Charla and Mirna didn't win it. They are two of the most hypocritical racers everyone. When Mirna said "Everyone got to find out who we really are", my response was "yeah, and I don't like the real you".

Yea, I felt the same way. The final challenge was interesting, but like Greg said it should have had a longer time limit.

I hadn't watched much of this season of AR (I am typically busy on Sunday evenings), but this season finale reminded me of why I don't care anymore. This show would be much, much more interesting if there weren't the stupid planes every 20 minutes that make tasks meaningless. At least it wasn't Charla and Mirna...

Echoing some other thoughts - fwiw, the final flight from Hawaii to Oakland was the first in a while where all the players were on the same flight. Even going to Hawaii, which was the closest, there were two different first legs and the same second.

Just so everyone knows, Amazing Race 12 is starting on Sunday, November 4th at 8 PM. It wasn't expected to be on until 2008, but with the quick cancellation of Viva Laughin or whatever, Amazing Race is being pushed up. Not much on the CBS website about racers or anything like that, I'm sure because this was just announced. I'm sure the promotions people are thrilled.

Did anyone seriously think Viva Laughlin was a good name for a show? I mean, what else was under consideration? Viva Elko? Vival Winnemucca?

Anyway, I'm excited about the new season...looking forward to it.

Oh great, another Sunday show on CBS where I have to keep screwing with the DVR to make sure it gets recorded correctly when football runs late and pushes el-lameo 60 Minutes into the time slot of a good show...

Agreed. You almost have to TIVO the show after it on Sundays to make sure you don't miss it. It's brutal.
