There's a level in Warcraft 3 where you defend a maze-like path by using your resources to build towers that are very similar to the ones used in this game.

There are actually quite a few multiplayer maps in both Warcraft 3 and Starcraft that are much more complex then this, but in principle similar. I believe they all originally spawned from a map called Matrix D in Starcraft: Brood War. Now, i know of at least 50 entriely different maps that utilize a similar scenario(build defenses to stop troops from crossing through a maze)

How can you afford all that?! I'm lucky to have 4 splash towers much less two 4 blocks of it, 6 air towers and 6 slow ones! (that is, with them upgrade).. 2100 or so is my top points. Splash definitely seems like the way to go, though. The fast are pretty worthless.

Don't upgrade the slowers at *all*. I don't think it's necessary.

If I remember, I got all 8 splashers and 6 airs up to level 8 or 9 before I bit it. It can be afforded.

upgrades cost the same as a new piece but only increase your attacks by 75% or so. I wouldn't upgrade until the board was filled up.

Trouble is, those un-upgraded towers are useless at higher levels. 40 damage is worthless when they have 5000 hit points.

Yes there is a balance, I went through the first 50 levels only using the weak one that attacks air and land. I kept them to the outside and then switched to the land only attackers and the air only attacker in the center. That got me to level 70.

I guess I should switch to the upgrader tactic. Though I never filled the board so I feel like that doesn't make sense to do

I tried a fill the board strategy with mostly splashers, with a bunch of air and weak combo filling the center.

Got to 62 with it, but you just can't kill them fast enough with such weak weapons to avoid capping the 100 point mark.

as someone who hasnt played the game yet, i have to say, this made me laugh for 5 minutes.

but im sure itll make perfect sense in an hour.

I actually just for kicks lined the entire walls with level 1 fast towers...
Didnt upgrade until those were full, that was good for level 65..

I built 2 fire towers near the crossing point of the paths, and one air tower dead center of the map.

Upgrade the air tower to 9 and it reaches the entire map, upgraded the fire towers to 9, built another fire upgrade to 9 keeping the fire towers bunched near the crossing point to concentrate firepower and splash damage.


keep adding stuff to those areas and upgrading them to 9 each time for max effect.


EDIT: I tried another time adding 4 water (slow) towers in the top right corner of the center block, it helps a ton to keep creeps bunched up so splash damage is more effective.

I don't see how that was enough air attack. I find I need atleast 4 at 9 once tthe golden birds come out.

there is no real rush to get rid of air targets, they only come once every 6 or so rounds, let them take the time, it costs less than trying to obliterate them quickly.

I can't seem to get past 84. I like Easy's strategy, but I've tried a couple of things to improve upon it. My most recent attempt included an 'investment' in the Heavy Ground fire one. I sold it late to upgrade my splashers when the enemies started to overrun the ground turrets.

Blocks of 6 splashers got me to 86, but I don't know what else to do to make it further. Perhaps invest in more slow targets? Or sell off the air targets once the birds disappear, and then dump a single splasher when they come back? With so many Splashers, it's tough to keep them upgraded to the point that they are doing significant damage to the creatures.

I have the same problem although I don't know the level - I get around 2400 and then get swamped because there's still a bunch of tough critters surviving for ages. I guess you need one big swatty type tower somewhere to take out the tough ones. But then you lose out on the splash towers and don't take out the cannon-fodder quickly enough.

I think there might be some validity to going to a fast only strategy early on and then switching to the splashers. I think this could do a better job of keeping the map clear earlier and might eek out a few more levels.

Really, I don't have any issues keeping the map under control/fully clear until about the 50's. Nobody seems to die fast enough after that.

I have a feeling the ultra expensive towers are necessary in the later game, but good god they are so bloody pricey.

Game crashed on me last night while I was trying something that showed promise. I can't try at work so someon try this.

Across the top row (not the very top, but the strip that divides the top of the screen and the interior loop) place 6-8 fasts and upgrade those. On either side put 2-3 slows.

The thought here is these towers attack everything. If it comes from the left, the slows, slow then the fast takes em out. If they come from the right and go to the center, the same thing is played in reverse. If they come from the right and go down, just wait theey will be back around.

From there, just let those work and build up 2 R2D2 look alike slow heavy hitter gunners. This seems to actually work worse early, as the board wont clear super early and have you waiting 10 seconds for more enemies. But should get better later if you have some heavy artillery.

If you double click on a creep, all of your guns will go after that creep until he is dead.

Moving to a splash-heavy strategy, I've managed to get up into the mid-70s. I've still got some ideas to try out. I'm also wondering how in the world you can last long enough to get up over 10,000 as it seems whoever has the high score has done. That's a mind-boggling number of levels to consider.

Damn, you CW. This is like the ultimate time-waster for me. I swear that when I was watching the State-WV game last night, I had a brief moment when the camera panned with the crowd in the background and the pattern of light and shadow caused my mind to briefly mentally drew arrows flying everywhere on the screen. I'm playing and thinking about this damn game too much. :D

IM rolling along ok with basically a "damage" only strategy. I used a few fasts early to get me rolling and to rack up the bucks, but now i'm all damage and a couple Airs thrown in there to deal with the flying bastards.

I haven't used a single slow yet and I'm crusiing to level 50. We'll see what happens from here as i think i might simply get overrun soon.

Using the double clicking feature and slapping the slows right down at the entrances I was able to get up to around level 90/2,500-odd but that's about it. I now feel sick and will stop. Hopefully for ever.

Not enough coverage with only damages.

I'm gonna re-attempt my "splash + fast" strategy I tried awhile ago. Basically, have a choke point with my splashers, and put the fasts to cover the other side of the map to pound the weakened ones that get past the main target zone.

Jebus! 94? How much are you upgrading the big guys? I tried with just one big guy upgraded it to about lvl 6, with I think 5 lvl 9 splashers, and I think 3 lvl 9 airs...

Back to the drawing board.

I got to 71 working about 12 splashers upgraded to level 3, maybe 10 slows filling in the cracks, 8 airs at level 2, and a handful of fasts. And i've spent way too much time on this today. I guess I've been away from a standard shooter type of video game for too long. I long for something like Gauntlet after playing this. :D

I got up to level 114. I used a combo of splashes (probably 8-10), slows (around 6-8), and big lasers (4). I didn't max the upgrades right away - instead i built 6 or 8 splashes and slowly upgraded them in unison. I think I may have done better with just splashes and slows. The key was targetting. I set up my guns all around the big intersection. Then I target the outer loop creeps as soon as they come into range. I start targetting the head of the pack and continue to target the head of the pack until they all slow down. For most of the game, you can destroy the entire outer loop group in one pass. With that being the case, it is easy to destroy the inner loop group at your leisure as they are in range more often.

Level 95 and 2643 points.

Tried going with 2 upgraded fast towers + an upgraded air for the flying creeps, but that just didnt seem to cut it. Ended up selling the fasts for more Airs. Also tried 2 of the big expensive towers, upgraded them to lvl 2 and 3, but was getting overrun and had to sell them for more splashers at the intersection.

At the higher levels I was thrilled to see the air creep levels so I could finally take care of the normal creeps who had slipped through. Next time I will try having an upgraded fast or 2 in the middle that could help clean up those creeps with very little health.

3289, Level 117. Similar to John Galt's strategy, although many more slows - I had maybe three dozen, spread out between both entrances, and then a line right in the center of the top set. The first wave of slows as creeps came in slowed down the leaders into the pack.. which was enough for the nine or so splashes at the upper right intersection to get the inner-bound group good. As they got out of range, the upper group was hitting the mid-level slows, which grouped them up for the splashes as well. I also had three Damages - two in the upper right on either
end of the entrance to the inner area (one eventually upgraded to level 9), and a third along the bottom as a luxury to pick off creeps that made it through the splashes. That didn't get added until level 80-something, though.

I don't know what level I got to, but I got blasted by the golden eagles. I couldn't kill them fast enough

It seems to me that none of the flying levels really beat you, as long as you've cleaned them up before the next flying level. So what I read from your post is that when the eagles showed up, you were still chock full of land creeps, so adding thirty birdies pushed you over the 100 mark?

That's basically my thought as well - I set up four air attacks in the central area early, and they get upgrades whenever 'Next' is a flying creature and there's still at least one flying creature from the last wave on the board. For my level 117, it ended up with 8 air attacks, 5 of them upgraded to '9'.

I made it to level 124. I really don't have time to play this game anymore. It just takes too long. I think the key really is killing the outerloop ASAP. This time I used only slowers and splashers. I placed them along the top row (not the very top). I think by the end of my game I had 16-20 splashers. Most were level 4, 2 were level 9, and 2 were 7, I think. I'm still torn on the when to upgrade question, but I don't think upgrading right away is the best strategy (the only reason I had 2 at 9 was to increase their range from the edge of the formation).

I think that underestimates the value of range. Depending on the location of a particular splasher, getting them extra range can be a difference in getting several more shots off at a target. I don't think maxing them all to 9 is a good strategy, but I think there is a lot to be said for putting them up a few levels. The splash effect is also enhanced which may not seem like much except when you effectively use slows to stack 7 or 8 creeps in one splash zone through targetting.

I've found that playing with only Fast towers gets you to about level 59. I ended the game with about 250 towers and slowly got overwhelmed. I kept up with the creeps for about 30 levels and then it started to slowly go downhill. I say slowly because the game started to crawl with that much activity going on.

I was using the low-res option. :)

I thought by filling the screen with Fasts I might get some good results. I didn't quite get all of the space filled, but I came close.

I made another run with just Damage towers and that got me to about 65. Better, but still not great.

I've tried just using a huge number of un-upgraded splashes exclusively, on the thought that two lvl 0 towers are slightly cheaper and have slightly more oomph than 1 upgraded tower, but have found that concentrating on one chokepoint with overwhelming firepower can keep the screen more or less clean until around lvl 43ish... I'm still topped out at level 92, and haven't really hit on any improvements to what I was doing.

I hate this game.

The game seems to have been tweaked recently. Now you get some kind of bonus for the creeps killed and a little interest besides at the start of the next wave. I think they've also dropped the cost of the Damage towers (I thought they were 350 before, but now they are 260). However, it looks like the creeps toughen up a bit faster than before, or at least that's my perception as the splash tactics I've used no longer keep the board generally clear until the mid-40s. I still can keep going until the mid-70s, so overall outcomes don't seem to have budged much but how you approach things may change. They've also added some kind of sandbox mode where you have as much money as you want to place towers where you like and how strong. The game will then send in indestructible creeps for 60 seconds so you can see how many hit points your arrangement will generate.

I will let it run until it diees, the only way I could help would be to sit here and sell airs and build damages and vice versa dependding on whats coming.

Currently all edges inside and out are lined with lvl 9 ddamages and have a lvl 9 air behind them.

Board is destroying all creeps with 8-10 seconds remaining.

INTEREST RUINED THIS ONCE EPIC time waster...

I agree that the balance has been messed up with the interest. I've had a marathon game going all day today. I don't know if it is my computers or the game, but the game slows down to a total crawl. I can actually see pauses in the frame advancement.

I have no idea what level I am on since it has reset a few times. My current score is 15792 with level 9 Air and Damage towers covering the screen.

For some reason I find the current message at the bottom of the screen to be funny: "Sending wave 113 (this has reset), creep bonus of $15 and $639481 in interest added to your bank." Thank goodness for the creep bonus. :)

Yeah that creep bonus was awesome.

Strangely I am now called to try and improve from #6 to #1, but I have no desire to spend 3 hours playing again.

But yeah at the high levels, especially with lots of airs, it crawls.

And I think if I had sat and targeted until the end, airs would have eventually became my downfall. Even when I came to the game over screen, it was 102 and over 2/3rds of the ground creeps were severly into the red. But the airs, well they just dont die quick and no room to build more. I think at some point you would have to continually tear down airs and replace with damages and vice versa

Just to let you know how slowly the game is playing on my laptop...my current score (from the game I wrote about last night) is 18800. I gained slightly over 3000 points in the last 8 hours. I might have been willing to go through the process of replacing Damage towers with Air towers to see how high I could get, but the game is unplayable.

the scoring/etc changes so often it's hard to compare. There was a jump somewhere that invalidated all of the previous scores.

Level 157, 8880 points (It's on the daily top ten on EASY)

Strategies -
Start with one "Fast"
Work to build bank, gaining interest.
Build "Damage" near right entrance.
Build bank to 4000 - Interest allows to build one "Damage" or many "Air" each round.
I didn't do this, but build weapons in an organized manner:
Center Box - Damage around edge, Air in Center
Middle area - Damage in outside, Air toward middle
Outer area - Damage near entrance only. Slow weapons near entance

Build first, upgrade later.

Not sure what they updated in the program but its got a massive memory leak somewhere. Watching my RAM usage go from 1.2 meg for firefox up to 112 meg by level 33, something just ain't right. I'll come back and play it again if I find they've fixed it.

Was really enjoying the game today too.

I wonder if that is why my game slowed down so much. I thought it was odd that even without much going on it got so painfully slow. I never thought to check the memory usage.

My best score is 77.9 million points. The combo's are pretty awesome.

Update: new high score for me 83.1 million 1196 kills from 9852 shots fired.

I don't get how to create the combo weapons - you get the requiste turrets build close together, upgrade their damage to max, then what?

That is it. The turrets seem to shoot each other to combine for bigger weapons. The turrets themselves don't change, but you will see the shots change.

I've been trying out the Big Laser Cluster Bomb Landmine combo since it seem to do a little bit of everything, but I haven't cracked 60mil yet. I guess I'll have to try some other combos to see what works.

I'm beginning to think the positioning of your turrets determines how often the combos go off.

For example the BFG is a 2-1-3 combo, but the 1 and 3 turrets fire through the 2 and the combo gos off in THAT direction. So perhaps looking at the map and finding a place to lay that combo in line with a large part of the map would make it work better?

I got up to 115 million and the game crapped out on me. All of the graphics were staying on the screen and the monsters were still running around the maze with negative health. Eventually the negative health monsters overwhelmed my base.

150M, level 145. Getting the 5-way combo that lays down the laser-missle-landmines is crucial. One of those obliterates 3-4 waves of baddies easily.

On my one foray through the game, I got to about 80-something million using the 5-combo. I was unable to pinpoint exactly what set off the combo though...if there was any way to influence that, I'm certain that I could survive much longer.

The key to getting your combo to fire the way you want is tricky. Basically, for whatever combo you want, you need your lead turret to be the first turret that has the baddies in range. Also having all of the turrets with an elevated rate of fire - not huge, say 100-150 - helps. It is still somewhat random, as per the designer of the game, so you won't get a big combo every round. If you want to upgrade the damage your combo does, you only need to use a booster on the lead turret - the one that fires.

Also, the biggest combo isn't necessarily the best one to use - multiple nuke-age is what I used for 300M

I'll try and screen-cap it if I can.

I used nuke mania, planted 1 missile and surrounded it with 6 blue guns, maxxed out the missile completely, then maxed only the damage on the guns. Then added anotehr missile on either side and added 3 or 4 of the BIG damage adjusters.

WHEEEeeeeee. death destruction, screaming pac-man babies everywhere!

I've gronw tired of the three versions of this game so far. Onslaught has a lot of room for growth and the author is doing a lot of game leveling and tweaking to make it work more than a nuke blast fest.

The circletd game we started with just doesn't run on my machine. I hit level 70 or so and everything just dies. I can count the seconds between frames....shudder.

THe sketchy looking one is ok, but its just not holding my interest.

Anyone got a new one out there?
