Nice pick, Fred, had I not landed Griffin in the first round Rouse would've been my target for this round. Boy, his size and speed are sick...hopefully he can put those to good use.

I guess I'm fairly irrelevant to this anymore. I live in Europe (major time zone issues) and was doing family stuff all day, hence was not around. Doesn't seem to matter anyway.

That's what you get for having a life and living under a leader other than the Imperious One. :D

Who were you planning on?

I don't understand the rationale for complaining if skipped when one can always send a list in.

sending another 2 person list to detox.. wee indeed

Logan
04-22-2007, 09:00 AM
JPhillips is up, and was around before...we were having some trade discussions for this pick, but my guy was taken at 47 (I think Tank will end up being the best NT in the draft, so that was great value). I'm still considering trading for it, and he's not online right now, but it shouldn't be long.

JPhillips
04-22-2007, 11:29 AM
So the trade fell through. With the 49th pick the Bengals select,

Ikaika Alama-Francis - DE

He's been shooting up draft boards and I'm very happy to get him this late in round 2. Right now he's more of a run stopper than pass rusher, but that works well in combination with Geathers. He has a huge amount of upside as well.

The pick gives the Bengals some flexibility with Justin Smith. They can try to trade him, pull the offer or keep him and let him walk next year.

Looks like we're now waiting on detox to come back around. He only said he'd be away Sat, so shouldn't be too long...

Who were you planning on?Johnson from Georgia was who I really wanted. Since he got picked, had a trade not been made on my behalf I'd have taken Woodley. As for anyone inferring a complaint on my part, it was more an observation that a complaint. Last I checked on Thursday the draft was nowhere near my pick, and judging buy the progress made up to that point I figured the earliest I'd have to think about this is about right now. The rules got changed on the fly, it's not my highest life priority, shit happens.

Just to clarify why I made the trade and pick for Leonidas...

I wanted to be fair to all involved, including Leonidas. I had several lists waiting and had no clue if a single pick would be made on Saturday. I wanted to get things moving, but didn't want to just make the pick and move on, so I gave him five hours after sending the first PM before I made the move (which I thought was fair) and then gave another four hours on the clock after the trade before I made the pick. After sitting down and studying Miami, and comparing who was available I determined that a playmaking CB who could very well turn out to be a very good starter was a need that could be filled with Hughes. I think the real 'Fins would be very happy in the second to get him, and if they get another pick in rd 6 on top of it, I think they would be happy too.

04-22-2007, 09:07 PM
The New Orleans Saints select Eric Weddle S/CB Utah.

The Saints have shown their need for younger CB to replace Fred Thomas, Weddle will get his first shot there. (He played very well at CB at Utah in the past.) And if he can't be a starter there, with Harper recovering from an injury at safety and Bullocks not performing at the level we would want from a starting safety, Weddle can get his shot to start at safety. Either way, he would be another boost to a defense that needs to keep getting better.

With the 61st pick, Baltimore selects Brandon Siler, LB, Florida.

I can't believe he lasted this long! He would immediately shore up the LB position after the loss of Thomas. He'll also provide insurance in case of another Ray Lewis injury and long-term he should be the answer in the middle. Woo-Hoo!

Was hoping he'd fall to me in the third...damnit.

I think Spaeth is a good value in round 3. A solid reciever with good size, who although usually won't get much after the catch has shown the ability to gain some ground once in a while. Like Leonard he's a tough hard worker who's a good team player.

Would anyone object if I put this mock draft up on my college football blog (In The Bleachers--in my sig line if you are interested)?

I think it is far better than anything I could put together by myself and, with it being three rounds, it might be a pretty good read for others. I won't put any screen names or anything up, but I will mention that each team had a different person drafting for it.

Swaggs
04-23-2007, 09:26 PM
????? wtf

Bush's doctor says that he "99% recovered" with his leg and that he should be at full strength by training camp. He is a big back that can become an every down back, but would not need to be for the Steelers this season, as they return their top three backs from last season (Willie Parker, Najeh "Dumper" Davenport, and Verron Haynes). Plus, he is a versatile athlete (he was recruited to Louisville as a quarterback), so he can partake in the Steelers' traditional "gadget" plays. For the short term, I can see him getting 8-10 carries a game with the long term potential to be a starter, so I'm happy to add him in the third and since we have two 4th rounders, I will not feel like we lost much even if he is not healthy to begin the season.

Someone was bound to take him and I wanted to get to him before someone else did. :)

Tigercat

The New Orleans Saints select Josh Wilson CB/KR Maryland

Another piece to helping overhaul the secondary. He hasn't been a big ballhog at CB in college, but hes made plays in run support and has shown the skills to be able to cover in man in the NFL. An option to replace an aging Michael Lewis at kick return.

I was hoping to snag him with my last 4th, #135. Major, major character concerns. He's probably one of the guys who will scare off a lot of teams with the new conduct guidelines. But still a big talent.

Danny
04-24-2007, 02:33 PM
Definitely major character concerns, but we are the Raiders ;). We need an impact DT when Warren Sapp retires and I felt he was the only one left on the board with that potential and since I was able to address the holes I wanted to fill on offense with my first 4 picks, I think he was worth a shot here in the 4th.

LOL!!!

Being from north of the border, my knowledge of NCAA football is somewhat lacking so I had to check to see if your alternate actually existed because this is how I read it at first:

Yeah Man Figures...my guy got picked, damnit!!!

So no one is interested in any of these guys?

No.

But you can take solace in the fact that I drafted a guy with the pick the Niners got for Lloyd that will have a much greater impact than the guy you're trying to dump off. Tell your front office to watch a player actually play in games, instead of seeing his Sportscenter highlights, before trading for him.

So no one is interested in any of these guys? One of the forgone conclusions of this weekends draft is the Skins trading out of the 6 spot and yet no one was even interested in discussing that, and now 6 legit guys who are cap moveable and there is no interest at all? F'ing ridiculous. Shouldn't there be some air of reality to this?

I see your point but at the same time, I'm doing what I think the Eagles should do...not what I think the Eagles are going to do.

Right or wrong, that's my spin on all of this.

No, there is no point. Those aren't the kind of guys that get traded on draft day. Anybody who wants them will just wait for the Redskins to cut them.

HiFi...how about this: If any of those guys get traded this weekend, I'll donate $100 to the charity of your choice. And if not, you donate to mine. Deal?

D'oh, I was praying Patrick would keep slipping.

How did Patrick last this long? Hes rated by most as the second or third best TE in the draft

I had Patrick in my top 5 list for my 2nd rounder. I was desperately hoping that he would fall to Carolina in this round.

I had LB-Stewart Bradley from Nebraska on my list for my next pick...I'm curious, did he do something stupid or get injured or something??

I had thought he was a 2nd-3rd round guy this year & nobody picked him. Most scouts put him at top 5 OLB, and not a distant 5th, or even necessarily 5th either. Hmm...sometimes it happens I guess.

Oh how I wish I had been drafting for the Raiders 2007. Megatron + Olsen + Trent Edwards. Even Marcus Thomas contributes a little.

09-30-2009, 07:43 AM
Look at it this way, Danny. Had you drafted those guys, the Raiders would have been good and had a low draft pick this past draft. So Al Davis would have packaged the three of them to trade up and get Heyward-Bey. And you would be in the same position today as you are anyway.

Joking aside, you really managed to nail those picks. Good job.

That's funny...I was sooo high on Mason Crosby that I took him in the 3rd round. :)

I still remember cursing when we took that dopey T in the 6th rd instead of Crosby.

Fun stuff to go back and look at. I think I drafted for need for the Chargers, but drafted the wrong SC receiver and completely missed on rounds 2 & 3. IRL I'm very happy the Chargers traded up to take Weddle, he's turned out to be a brilliant pick.

I'm not sure how many good players we completely missed on but just skimming through it seems like so far 2007 has turned out to be a really shallow draft (of course 2 years isn't really enough to make a complete judgement but a lot of "who the hells" on that list) Some great picks at the top but tails off very quickly.

Oh and LOL at me jumping all over Edward for trying to trade Vick. That trade looks a little better in the light of day now. Wonder if he had any inside information :)

Reggie Nelson in the first was a good pick and would likely be starting instead of Reggie Williams, but Alama-Francis couldn't even make the Lions this year.

New rule, don't pick anyone from U Hawaii, ever.

edit: Yikes that was a terrible real life draft for the Bengals. Only 1st rounder Leon Hall and compensatory 7th rounder Chinedum Ndukwe are still with the team.

Looks like I got the positions right in rounds 1 or 2, but the Steelers made much better calls w/ Timmons and especially Woodley. Timmons has been somewhat of a disappointment, but he has the starting job this season (he has been battling nagging injuries up to this point, unfortunately).

Logan

Like HiFi's moral outrage at no one trying to trade up to the 6th spot since it was COMMON KNOWLEDGE that the Redskins would trade down in the actual draft...

...you know, instead of taking LaRon Landry at the 6th spot like he, and we all, expected.

DeTox, how about starting a 2010 mock draft? I'm in for Atlanta.

Haven't had time to do the research yet, but I think we should all do an assessment of how it really turned out?

Just a recap of my picks for Atlanta in 2007.

8 Atlanta Falcons OT Levi Brown, Penn State -- 1st round, 10th
39. Atlanta DE Charles Johnson, Georiga -- 3rd round, 20th
44. Atlanta - CB, Marcus McCauley, Fresno State -- 3rd round, 8th
75. Atlanta RB Kenny Irons, Auburn -- 2nd round, 17th
109. Atlanta S Michael Johnson, Arizona -- 7th round, 14th

Levi Brown. Was drafted by Cardinals and has started 43 or 45 games. Didn't see a bunch of accolades for him but think he has settled as a solid RT.

Charles Johnson. Was drafted by Panthers and has started 4 of 32 games. Has had 10 sacks which I thought was pretty good.

Marcus McCauley. Was drafted by Vikings but has moved on to Detroit. Not much of an impact.

Kenny Irons. Can't find him on nfl.com.

Michael Johnson. Drafted by Giants. Started 35 of 47 games. 156 tackles in the past 3 years, 2 sacks, 3 interceptions.

No basis in reality, but am giving myself a B.
