Thought it would be good to create a centralized thread to post annoucements as they come out of the Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony and other various press conferences (along with leaked information on other websites). It appears that E3 is going to have a lot of new information about all consoles and PC gaming as well.

Anyone have links to any broadcasts of the press conferences? I know that Sony is doing it on their official PS blog. I'm assuming Microsoft and Nintendo have similar setups somewhere.

It's just talk now for Metal Gear I think... but I also don't think it'll be exclusive forever. Maybe for a short period of time, and then it'll be released on the 360.
edit: I say this because I've heard this for awhile now, with nothing concrete ever being said. I know a friend of mine would be really pissed, because he got a PS3 at launch for MGS and Gran Turismo.
Umm not good news for PS3 unless this is due to a major upgrade of the online shop:
Playstation network currently down:
In what is either one serious case of unfortunate timing or preparation for E3 madness, the entire PlayStation Network appears to be offline, as seen here (http://www.us.playstation.com/ps3/network/status). Sony previously announced (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/06/sony-bringing-home-e3-too-on-psn/) that they'll be bringing E3 to PS3 users, so perhaps this outage is in preparation for that. We'll let you know as soon as we hear something.
[Update: The PSN appears to be up now, though the PlayStation Store is still offline.]

Another huge blow against the PS3.
Rumblings are that it will be a timed exclusive. The info I saw was that it would come out for the 360 8-12 months after the PS3 release. They also mentioned that may change with another price drop to $399 for the PS3, which makes sense as most people even in discussions on this board said they wouldn't consider the PS3 until it dropped to at least $399. That seems to be the tipping point right now.

They were planning to add a lot of new demos and trailers in addition to E3 broadcasts. I'm sure that's the reason for it being down.

A few highlights of the Microsoft News Conference so far tonight for me:
Mass Effect was dated for a November release and they listed about a dozen potentially very good titles that will be out by Christmas.
They've signed an exclusive deal to show Disney movies on Live - all in HD. All future movies from Disney will also come to Xbox Live.

Anyone else see the description of this upcoming EA NFL game? I thought that the reason for the exclusive agreement was to keep the NFL game quality high. This just sounds craptacular......
Gamers will be able to embark on a fictional NFL road show. With real NFL players as teammates, players will travel across the country to play against each of the NFL teams in newly designed stadiums. As players defeat each of the NFL squads, they come one step closer to winning a NFL contract.

Interesting comments over on the Sports Gamers blog. They had two different impression threads. Both of them said that Halo 3 looks worse than any of the other games (GTA4, Assassin's Creed, COD4) that they previewed in the MS press conference. Obviously, that's quite interesting as Halo 3 is the one out of that list that will be released the earliest, so you would think that it should be the best looking one at this point.

An interesting move there to counter the BR exclusivity on discs. MS is obviously hoping at this point that they can increase the digital download market to combat Blu-ray since it appears that HD-DVD has lost the disc format war. I'm curious as to how long that agreement is in place.

Interview of Square Enix exec. He's stating something similar to the Konami exec. Saying that the PS3 price needs to come down another $100. Glad to see these companies pushing for price drops. Wouldn't be shocked if Sony does exactly that in the next 6-12 months.

No, I didn't see any Dead Or Alive footage at all. The theme of the night was that all of the footage was coming from games that would be out by the end of 07. They broke that rule for one game: Resident Evil 5 which was the end of the night surprise. It looked great from the clip they showed.

I'd agree that Halo 3 looked worse than GTA 4, Assassin's Creed, and COD4. However, that is only because those 3 games all looked amazing. Halo 3 looked very good, although I've never been a fan of the series.

Most of the impressions I read said it was a dissapointment from the MS group.
I didn't see any of it, but I think there are some pretty big things that came out of it.
1) While Halo 3 looked the worst of the three games, that's also the game that's going to sell a millions of copies regardless. The game could be absolute garbage and will sell 2.5 million units. Odds are, it's going to be a pretty solid game, so I don't think MS is all that worried.
2) Assassin's Creed and GTA getting rave reviews (along with GTA having 2 exclusive chapters) simply solidifies their status as A list titles. Both are going to sell and sell huge.
3) Call of Duty 4 sounds pretty good.
4) The Disney deal is huge. There have been a lot of people that have said the d/l market would destroy whoever won the BluRay/HDDVD battle. MS is testing the theory.
5) 45 million games sold on Live? That's an amazing number. That's about 4.5 games per owner of a 360 if the number is true. One game every 3 months or so for the average user.

Yikes. It appears that the Nintendo presentation isn't going much better than the MS presentation. They took 30 minutes to start showing an actual game. Only major announcement before that was something called the 'Wii Zapper', Duck Hunt 2, and that Dragon Quest was moved back to next year (was supposed to be a launch title). Hopefully the rest of the presentation improves over the first part.

The moment your company starts thinking like that is the moment it all goes wrong.
Reports indicate that that Nintendo showed several minutes of video of old people playing the Wii. That's great and all that Granny's off her duff, but the vast majority of gamers would like to see some new games so they don't have to play Wii Sports for the next 5 years (although I suppose there's always worse things to do with your time).

Reggie just demonstrated a balancing board accessory for the Wii.
I'm thinking that every one of the senior citizens that they showed playing the Wii would likely break a hip the moment they stepped on that thing.
I saw a couple of the running commentaries on this presentation say that they were shocked that the Nintendo presentation could be worse than the MS presentation and that 'SceneIt' for the 360 suddenly looks like a cool game. Microsoft had some games that I actually would like to play. I didn't really see anything that got me over-excited from Nintendo.

Doesn't seem like anything new was announced that I would rush out to buy. Considering I still only have Wii Sports and Zelda (stopped playing 12 hours in because I got stuck and it's really frustrating)... the only games I'd be interested in playing are the ones I already knew about.
So in the next year, I'd probably try out (and maybe buy one or two):
Super Mario Galaxy
Smash Bros.
Madden
Metroid Prime
And whenever they come out, Mario Kart and Resident Evil (the gun looks fun)... not many games there for me.

Galaxy in November, Brawl in December, Mario Kart Q1 2008, awesome news. Wii Fit doesn't look like something I'd buy but I am curious to see how it would do. Getting Galaxy this year for sure means the conference was a winner no matter how hard the rest of the presentation focused on casuals and expanding the market.
I would love a Wii Sports 2 if nobody is going to bother making a tennis game, which the system is absolutely screaming for. Top Spin 3 was just announced for Xbox360 and PS3, craziness that there won't be a Wii version IMO.

You already know this, but it should be noted that the $700 price tag that you mention includes the 17.5% sales tax. Actual price before tax is around $580, which is pretty similar to the U.S. price before the recent price cut. The government is more to blame than any price gouging by Sony.

From a summary on Gamespot of the EA conference:
Rock Band will be adding a new batch of songs available for download every week and will eventually have "thousands of songs available."
Nintendo's (the only one I care about) press conference was terrific (I didn't see it, but I've watched trailers from it and read summaries, etc.) to me. Wii Fit looks great. There is tremendous potential with that floor mat peripheral, if you use a little imagination. I will definitely be buying it. This is the kind of thing my wife had in mind when she originally suggested to me we buy a Wii.
Mario Kart! Lots of racers. At least 12 in the trailer shown, I hear. The more the merrier.
The Galaxy trailer makes me drool. This game looks more fantastic every time I see something new from it.
The release dates for Galaxy and Brawl are good news, too. More confirmation that all of these great games will be out this year.
Also, Phantom Hourglass release date!
Then there are the other things, like Endless Ocean (which looks great), Fire Emblem, etc.
Also the EA games sound like the Wii controls and Wii-specific features will be lots of fun.
Just the rantings of a Nintendo fanboy. Pay me no mind.

4) The Disney deal is huge. There have been a lot of people that have said the d/l market would destroy whoever won the BluRay/HDDVD battle. MS is testing the theory.
Forget "testing that theory"- they're hoping to push that theory. As has been said all along, Microsoft would love for the next gen format war to be a "wash" and then they come in and pick up the pieces digitally.

I'm not quite as stoked about it as I was for NSMB as that was just beautiful and I knew it before it even came out. It was all the good qualities of SMB3 all over again.
This is something different. I'm not sure yet how good it will be. That said, if SM64 is the first 3D platformer, this looks like the first truly 3D platformer where you really are playing in 3 dimensions including up and down. Again, this is what everyone was predicting for SM128 way back before we got our hearts broken and such a thing never came to the light of day.
Then again, it's what Sunshine could have been if the whole game were void levels and there was none of the overworld nonsense with the water gun. Those were wicked hard and wicked fun. I remember playing one of those for almost 45 minutes trying to beat it, but I just kept wanting to try it as it had a perfect "just one more time" feel.

Oh, and can someone explain the appeal of the newer PSP? It just doens't look that different. The DS went from blocky to sleek but the PSP was already sleek-looking. Now, maybe if they bulked up the battery life to go along with the slight redesign, it has some redeeming features.
That was the thing with the DS Lite- it looked a lot better as well as being smaller, lighter, and almost doubling an already long battery life.

Checking in very, very briefly, as I'm exhausted after the Bethesda party.
1) Super Mario Galaxy rocks.
2) Rock Band will still fucking destroy Guitar Hero III...but Neversoft didn't flush that franchise down the toilet, so at least it won't look *worse* by comparison.
3) Wii Fit is entertaining, but exhausting as all hell.
4) Sony's press conference was a hoot. I have pictures of Jack Tretton getting hugged by Chewbacca.
They were a little ambiguous on some of the 'exclusives,' leaving some doubt whether they were permanent (other than MGS4), with Haze being a notable "only place *this holiday season,* eh?
5) Big announcements for each system - Disney for Microsoft, Wii Zapper/Wii Fit for Nintendo, NCSoft for Sony and the price cut for Sony - but nothing really amounting to a knockout punch.
6) I may actually buy Madden 08. I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.
I have another long day tomorrow, so I'm crashing. My next post should be on Friday.

SI
FYI.....they said that they had improved the battery life quite a bit in the press conference.

Yeah, the Tretton hug was awfully funny.
FYI......Haze is a timed exclusive. That may be what you're referring to. It's exclusive through end of March 2008.
Metroid Prime 3 is amazing.

Metroid Prime was the reason why I bought a GameCube. I am really looking forward to this one.

2) Rock Band will still fucking destroy Guitar Hero III...but Neversoft didn't flush that franchise down the toilet, so at least it won't look *worse* by comparison.
I saw GH3 is now for X360, Wii, PS3, and PS2. Any news on any differences between the versions? I may just cheap out and get it for the PS2 if there aren't any significant changes.

I'm finding it very interesting how many people are saying that Wii Fit is the stupidest thing they've ever seen. This thing will be huge. I also think there is a lot of potential for that peripheral in other games.

Not in the presentation. They just mentioned "longer battery life". I'm guessing we'll see info in a press release on the Sony website or official blog.

Just announced that the Rumble SIXAXIS controller will be shown in September at the Tokyo Game Show. My guess is that they released this info since people were wondering why it wasn't mentioned in yesterday's presentation.

Is Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, the newest installment in the Unchartered Waters series from Koei?
I hope so, cuz I loved that series on the NES and SNES.
No. It's an original game from the creators of Jak and Daxter on the PS2.

I mean it reminds me a lot of Super Mario Sunshine, for Gamecube. And I had such a hard time with that.
Well it is a Mario game. This is a huge leap better than that, though.

Not E3 news, but still big news. Peter Moore has resigned from Microsoft. The rumor is that he left the job to take over EASports.

Part of me wonders. EA was a heavy hammer against the Dreamcast back in the day; does Moore carry a grudge against Sony for that?
It'll be an interesting development to watch, for sure.

Post from Bill Harris regarding multiple rumors suggesting that Moore was forced out due to the extreme failure rates that were mishandled.
http://dubiousquality.blogspot.com/2007/07/microsoft_17.html
Multiple articles are also linked in this post showing the negative media coverage that the 360 continues to receive, including one article suggesting that a total recall of all units may be in order. EB Games of Australia has pulled all Xbox 360 stock from the shelves and will not be stocking the 360 until they can get new stock that is free of defects......
