PING: Browns Fans

Five years ago the Brownies scraped into the playoffs at 9-7. Before that, they haven't been in the playoffs since 1994. Thought I'd bring that up.

The Browns have also had 5 straight seasons with essentially a different QB at the helm - 2002-2006: Couch, Holcomb, Garcia, Dilfer, Frye. This year that trend will probably continue when Frye falters and they try to switch to Anderson or hold-out boy Quinn.

I am just glad that during the 2007 season I only have to worry about Baltimore and Pittsburgh challenging the Bengals for the AFC North, not my least favorite teams, the Browns! It's really a hatred out of tradition and not conviction at this point. Thank you, thank you.

Hrm, bengals were in teh dumps eh? Lets see, both teams had 7 seasons of at least 7 wins.

As for everyone else, go ahead and laugh, point at rendeR and say "Relax", I'm a fan and I'm going to talk positive about my team.

The only thing keeping it from happening is the defense, if it improves, we're one of the top 3 teams in the conference, if it doesn't we're still top 6.

Anything can happen, especially with a weaker schedule this year than last.

The Bengals are definitely better this year than the Browns. But this is sports... you never know. Brady Quinn would start off very good, Jamal could do well as a pounding back... Braylon and Kellen Winslow (if healthy) are good.

He threw for like 350 yards and STILL they lost to Tommy Maddox's Steelers! Talk about a game where I didn't know who to root for (probably the Steelers).

How Bengals looking in preseason?

Not so good thanks to the inspiring 17 point, 4th quarter rallying by those fightin' Detroit Lions and back-up QB stud Dan "Big O" Orlovsky!

Between Orlovsky's Montana-like performance and some free agent kicker who apparently is the greatest onside kick-off specialist in the history of the game, the Bengals had no hope of holding that lead. None. at. all.

(Let's just ignore the fact that the Lions' first team defense couldn't stop the pass (or run really) or get any pressure on the QB, and their first team offense couldn't run the ball or convert on 3rd down.)

It would be great to see the Bengals get over the hump this year and challenge for conference supremacy, but with this defense, I am not all that positive about getting past the Wild Card game.

Only because it's been instilled in me to always hate the Browns the most out of any team in any sport. Must be a state thing. Don't get me wrong though, around here, especially due to Pittsburgh's success, the majority of people I know hate the Steelers way more than any other NFL franchise!

Big surprise with Irons, we can't draft a healthy RB. With our defense, however, who knows what to expect. We lost an albeit aging Brian Simmons, and a HIGHLY overrated IMHO Kevin Kaesviharn to New Orleans, and gained an opportunity for more PT with guys like Ahmad Brooks/Rashad Jeanty... Shit Ed Hartwell isn't even going to start for us!

I always hated Kaesviharn and was quietly mad that he made so many interceptions last year. He used to be a substitute math teacher before the Bengals signed him, and I always used to make silly jokes when #34 was the first one to trail the receiver in the endzone after giving up a touchdown... "he must have calculated that angle wrong"

Between that and injuring our golden boy, I really understand why most Cincinnati fans have more hatred these days for the Steel City than Cleveland.

So, seriously, are the Browns going to win more than 5 games this year? I think Dallas has a good shot at having a top 3 pick in 2008. Meanwhile Brady Quinn will get his ass kicked, and be out of football within 6 years.

I think there's question marks for a lot of teams this year. Just in the AFC North, if the Bengals D can somehow be even top 20... they can make the playoffs. I think the Ravens will win the division. The Steelers need Big Ben to play solid, and then they can make the playoffs. The Browns need a lot of things to fall their way... but I don't see them being .500 or above right now.

Shorty's got the right of things up above, The defense got rid/lost a few players that, while always just good enough to stay bengals, weren't elite players by any stretch. Simmons and Kaesveajkdhahas were always 2 steps behind the ball.

I like some of these younger guys on defense. Ndukwe really impressed against detroit, on time with his tackles and made the tackles solo.

You take away 2 games last season that the defense just never showed up for and the Bengals D ranks in the top half of the league. Games like the Charger debacle really hurt you more than you can compensate for.

With the slightly softer schedule this season (we faced 11 playoff calibur teams in 06) and a favorable selection of the tougher games being at PBS, I think the offense takes control and teh defense plays par to get us another division crown.

Anything could happen, but this is probably our best shot in 2 decades at the conference title.

It hasn't been that high. For instance, he's only had 13 more carries than LT during those past three years.
