Steelers/Rams on NFL network tonight.
Hopefully Gum Ball is sick again. In leiu of that, Bruce Arians' play calling will most likely make me vomit in my mouth again tonight. I expect the Rams to abuse the Steelers secondary tonight, and it to be a pretty convincing win for STL. Tomlin better have the guys motivated.

I am beginning to suspect that the Steelers are the only outdoor team that plays better indoors. How else do you explain losing at home in the snow to a Florida team (Jags)?

The Packers absolutely destroyed the Rams last week. But rest assured, the Steelers are not even close to being on the Packers level. I think the Steelers will lose this game and the Browns will win the AFC North. They deserve it. I'm just glad that this game is on national TV so that the whole nation can watch it.

I have become your official reality check when it comes to the Packers. The Packers didn't really destroy the Rams. The final score was high, but the Rams moved the ball pretty well and the Packer offense was not at it's best. The first half was real close, too. Good win, but it wasn't domination.
I agree the Packers should win a game against the Steelers though, but it wouldn't be a blowout.

NFL Broadcast Ratings Rise as Patriots' Perfect Year Lures Fans
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=newsarchive&sid=apvyu0xMt7m8
My two favorite parts of this article for some reason.....
The NFL Network is selling ads for the Patriots' Dec. 29 season-finale against the New York Giants for more than $200,000 -- more than double the $85,000 it has received for ads during other games this season, MediaWeek reported. NFL Network spokesman Seth Palansky confirmed the figure.
The Patriots' popularity encouraged CBS to choose Gillette Stadium in Foxborough as the location of its first restaurant. The 15,000-square-foot ``CBS Scene,'' a joint venture with the team, will open next season.
``It's not a business we've been in before,'' McManus said. ``But we thought it was a no-brainer to further associate ourselves with NFL football and the Patriots.''

Having watched most of the pats games this year, I don't really see alot that cries out to me as the Officials trying to help the Pats remain undefeated. I've seen some bad calls in their favor, but also seen some bad calls against them.
Its stuff like this however that really bugs me about the NFL. They might be completely innocent of trying to ensure that the Pats remain undefeated for this game, but don't you have to remove all apperance of conflict of interest? I think everything about the NFL network trying to make a profit off of the pats this way is wrong, and really wish the NFL wouldn't do that. It places too much doubt in everyone's minds about motivation of calls.

That kind of doubt has been around for the history of sports.
But it's so incredibly absurd to think that a league would mandate referees throw a game. When people suggest that as a serious possibility, it's just difficult to take anything else they say seriously.
There was an online poll once where more than 50% of people thought that the NBA referees were ordered by the league to help certain teams. Then a bunch of refs went to prison for tax evasion. Don't you think those refs would have utilized that info to help them out in that scenerio? Don't you think the Federal government would be interested? Look at that one gambling addict NBA ref from earlier this year - wouldn't he have talked by now?
You don't trust referees with your livliehood, or with your freedom. They WILL talk eventually, and you WILL go down. There's VERY little to gain to take that kind of risk.
Why haven't the NFL refs helped any other team go undefeated since 1972? Isn't 1 undefeated team every 35 years a resonable number to happen without outside inteference having to be involved?

Why is the media making a big deal about 16-0? 19-0 is the important metric, and really the only real way to compare the Pats to the 72 LOLphins. They have to win the title to finish this thing off. If my guys can't win this year, however, it would be nice to see jackasses like Mercury Morris shut up by the pats going unbeaten.

Yeah, I mean, duh, nobody's been 16-0, but Patriots looking good in regular season is not the same thing as Lolphins running the regular season table and winning the superbowl. Hell, the Pats dropping the last 2 games of the regular season, going 14-2 and then winning the bowl is a helluva lot more impressive than going 16-0 and losing in the first round of the playoffs.

Are there people who actually would consider a loss in the postseason an "undefeated season" I assume most people expect any undefeated season includes all the way to the superbowl. Going 18-1 without the championship makes you roughly one notch behind the 85 bears.

All I know is that an awful lot of the promos I've seen on NFL NEtwork, etc, seem to be talking about them clinching a "perfect season" next week vs the Giants.

True. And if the Pats go 16-0, and then lose in the playoffs, it's a huge catastrophe for them, and a HUGE news story. So 16-0 is a big deal no matter what. It either means they go 19-0, or that have that historic loss.
Obviously, winning a super bowl is more important and impressive than anything anyone does in the regular season, this is clearly a more dominant team than the '72 dolphins. I know you can only play who's in front of you, but if we're talking history, it's relevant that the dolphins only beat two teams in the regular season with a winning record (and both of those finished 8-6). It was litterally one the easiest schedules in the history of the NFL. The Pats 14 wins is FAR more impressive.

You need to have some faith Cringer! All you do is build up the opponents whether its the horrific Lions, the hapless Rams, or the pathetic Bears! The Packers could win by 30 this Sunday and you'd still find faults in the performance! They could win the Superbowl and you'd still say that they could have done better! What a play early in the Eagles game, McNabb with a very good looking 45 yard run before the Saints punch it free from behind, but the ball goes sailing towards the endzone and is eventually knocked into the endzone by a Saints' player before Kevin Curtis falls on it in the endzone for a TD!

Do you see why I don't go off proclaiming every game will be a blow out victory? Yes, in perfect circumstances, the Packers "should" destroy the Bears. Things don't always go the way they should. Packers can't move the ball and I am just thankful that Ryan actually got that last punt off because I was starting to think the Bears and Packers would play the game inside the Packers 10 yard line the rest of the half or until the Bears scored.
And I hate the Bears, but that was one hell of a FG for Gould to go up 6-0.

I don't think he really is going, but I will be very sad to see him go if he does. He isn't the most accurate QB, but I think he is one of the best the Eagles have ever had. People like to point out his weaknesses, as with any athlete, but he did lead the Eagles to 4 consecutive NFC Championship Games with some very mediocre WR's around him and the team came close to winning a SB which would have obviously drastically reduced the unfair criticism that he gets from some Philly fans.

Yes, the Packers could beat the Steelers. Are you people forgetting the Steelers mishaps all year? They don't look good today. As I said earlier, the wind negates their biggest asset and exposes one of their biggest weaknesses. The Bears should be congratulated for a good game today, but they are still terrible and at the basement of the NFC North for a reason. They went from the superbowl to terrible in one year. The Steelers will be lucky to make it out of the 2nd round of the playoffs. The Packers have a bye to the 2nd round of the playoffs. It's not really even close.

I have no problem with the Bears beating the Packers 2x every year if the Bears have a losing record and the Packers make the playoffs. I'm sure the Bears were just ohhhh so upset that the Packers beat them in the last game of the season and went to the Super Bowl last year.

The Packers loss is somewhat disappointing. With the Cowboys clinching homefield it means that the Vikings will likely go to Dallas if they make the wild card and win in the first round in the playoffs, instead of if Green Bay had home field going to Lambeau where they're undefeated in the playoffs.

Don't kid yourselves, the Bears suck because they have been decimated by injury. The defense is still very young, and I fully expect them to be in the NFC elite mix next season. The only thing that would make me want to see the Patriots lose at this point is the Packers playing them in the Superbowl.

Losing 35-7 stinks, but the result is fine for GB. Sometimes weather negates talent (see the Pitt-Miami game as well) and the Bears had better ST and defensive pressure. See, this is not true. Its been said a million times, the Pats can tape opposing coaches, everyone does it, that is not against the rules.

So what exactly happened in the Raiders game that caused all those unsportsmanlike conduct penalties and Sapp's ejection? Can't seem to find any details on the specifics.
CNN had some of it last night. Apparently a penalty got called on a Jags offensive lineman (illegal hands to the face), and the refs said that the Raiders declined the penalty, which meant fourth down and a 43-yard FG. Shortly afterward, the refs said that Oakland had accepted it, backing the Jags out. The Raiders defense was furious that the refs had essentially decided for them and not waited for them to make their own decision. Here's where it gets dicey: the Raiders claim the refs threw a quick flag on Sapp (it was right after the reversal), and that blew him up leading to another one and then a third. Another Raider also got flagged.
Likely would be that Sapp said something pretty sarcastic when they got it right, and that led to him getting flagged. The big question will be what did the refs base the original declination on?
And the fun part was Garrard threw a pick on the next play.

It's a really bizzare scenerio in the AFC - The Titans are in if they win, and out if they lose, regardless of what the Browns do.
So if they both lose and finish 9-7, the Browns win the tiebreaker. Yet if they both win, and finish 10-6, somehow the Titans win the tiebreaker. I'm assuming that's because the final week's game would determine conference or divisional record or something.
Greyroofoo

Probably because the Browns play an NFC team and the Titans are playing an AFC team
stevew
12-24-2007, 06:53 PM
In short, re titans/browns.
Titans and Browns haven't played, that would be the #1 tiebreaker. Titans are 6-5 conference, browns are 7-5. Their "common opponents" record is the same(#2 tiebreaker). #3 is conference, with the Titans win, they go to 7-5. And then I believe the #4 tiebreaker would then apply, the "strength of victory." The titans must have an insurmountable lead in that category.

But I was a severe underdog. The juggernaut 13-1 squad had Tom Brady, LT, and Randy Moss.
So my baby boomers, the 9+85=7 Squad squaking in the playoffs at 8-5 started Brett Favre (big surprise year!!), the NYG Defense (huge!), and Steve Jackson.
So Brady scores only 4 pts last week and I was pissed that somehow they didn't get upset on such an off day, so I am forced to play them.
Come this week, I have been riding the Favre train all year, and he gets me 4 fuckin points in the most important game of the year, against Brady no less.
Still, going into Monday night I was only down by 5 points and had K Kaeding, TE Gates, and WR Chambers, but again the juggernaut had LT.
I didn't see the game but checked the boxscore in nervous excitement. LT got 16 points so I was down by 21. Gates 20 some yards, 2 points... down 19... Chambers had 70 and a TD.... down 6.. Kaeding 3/3 fg plus 2 xp... yes!!!
I win by 5!!
I check the website to brag about how great I am.
Wait... the juggernaut also had Brandon Marshall from DEN who I cut this year??? Oh no... I check the boxscore... Marshall had 70 yards=7 points!! No!! I LOSE!
So again, damn you Brett Favre
