The final straw. OR my last read before attempting this fast.

THE 3 DAY FAST

A little more difficult than the 24 hour fast, this fast definitely takes you to a new level of
cleansing. After the initial 24 hours without food the body actually “switches modes.”
This is a reflex action that happens automatically. Just exactly the same way that food in
your stomach initiates the release of digestive acids and enzymes, the absence of food for
a period of time triggers many cleansing processes throughout the body. Your body
literally breaks down processes and eliminates old stagnant “extra” stored up toxic waste.
This waste is stored everywhere! It’s in all of your organs like your kidneys, liver, and
gall bladder. It’s in your blood, it’s in your fat, it’s in your skin and lungs, it’s in your
eyes, ears, nose, and throat……but most of all, it is in your intestines. The 33 feet of
small and large intestine of the average person can hold 50lbs or more of stagnant toxic,
mucoid plaque that releases a constant stream of poisons into your body. That causes
sickness, allergies, pain, arthritis and fibromyalgia to name a few. This build up of
indigestible toxins come mostly from the unnatural processed man made foods that we
consume. Preservatives, chemicals, sugars, hydrogenated oils heavily salted or fried
foods, artificial colors and flavorings are just some of what your body can’t handle and
builds up like paste on the walls of our intestine. Sometimes it’s perfectly healthy food
that is combined improperly or over eaten or damaged by the cooking process. But by far
the worst clogging foods are the zero fiber meats, eggs, and cheeses. All dairy products
including yogurt create mucus production in the intestine and build up the layers of
mucoid plaque. When meat digests it becomes like gravy. And let us not forget how
much flour the American people eat. Bread, crackers, pasta, bagels, pastry, muffins,
cake, and cookies – we easily consume hundreds of bags of flour each year. Well anyone
who graduated kindergarten can tell you a great recipe for paste is flour and water. We
eat a very unnatural diet and our body does the best it can to process through and absorb
nutrients and dump the toxic unuseable stuff, but it gets so easily overwhelmed and can’t
keep up. This is why we need to fast.

The Benefits
With a three day fast you can get yourself out of big trouble with a bloated overburdened
intestine. Immediately, your body starts to work on the extra stuff. Mucus is released
from everywhere and your intestine starts to pump out the stagnant waste and plaque that
is held deep within the walls of the organ itself. This is reflected by the coated tongue
that you will have by the second day. Your entire intestine looks like that.

How Will I Feel?
As toxins are released, people go through many transient symptoms. At moments you
may not feel so well or may feel extremely tired or weak. Then suddenly, you feel this
incredible burst of energy and well being. There are some headaches and some intestinal
cramps, but this is not a sign of you lacking or needing anything. This is from the toxins.
Therefore, the best remedy is to drink more fluids and take an enema or colonic to
expedite the toxins flushing out of your body. Above all remember that “the true benefits
of a fast can only be measured after it is over and you are back to eating normal. This is
how you officially stop the cleansing process, at which point you can evaluate the new you.
“Lighter, healthier, easier to breathe, less pain, so much better” are all common
comments by people completing a fast.

What Can I Have On a Fast?
Water, fresh made vegetable or fruit juices, herbal tea, vegetable broth that is homemade
without any salt or chemicals, sugar-free store bought juices (organic is highly
recommended) are also okay, but you will have noticeably less energy than fresh juice.

How Do I Come Off The Fast?
I’m so glad you asked this question. It is critically important that you come off a fast
properly. (Remember the body has had quite a workout and will be sensitive at first.
That is why you must start with the simplest of foods and gradually ease yourself back
into “normal” eating. The first food you eat naturally has to be juicy fruit like oranges,
peaches or grapes. After giving the body a full two to three hours to properly digest this
fruit you can have more every couple of hours. In the afternoon or evening you should
have salad and vegetables – by your last meal, you might even handle some lightly
cooked vegetables. You must resist the temptation to “catch up” and gorge yourself.
You’ll end up doing more damage than you had before. The next day again after
drinking some water, start first with fruit. This is an excellent habit to get into for the rest
of your life. Mid-day, have a salad and some cooked food if you want. And by dinner
you can return to “normal” eating. Hopefully, you will become more aware of everything
you put into your body and start to keep a better balance of raw fresh organic fruits and
vegetables as the majority of your diet and all the other stuff as little pleasurable side
dishes.

Final Thoughts
Fasting is as old as time. Every single species of creature on this earth is known to fast at
certain times. Man is the least of these creatures. It wasn’t always that way. Fasting was
the number one method to cure illness in early medical literature. It is perfectly safe and
everybody can do it if they learn how. Fasting will change your life and allow your body
to repair any disease. The only question is how long or how many times you have to fast.
Learn this ancient technique of wellness for your family and yourself.

Yours in greater health,
Dr. Barry Awe

Water Fast equals water. After reading many studies on this I have decided to go for the 1/2 ounce per lb of weight. This means I will be shooting for 112 ounces per day.

The last meal was my traditional "made weight" that I used in the past after my 24 hour fasts. 2 Peanut butter Jelly sandwiches, 4 Safeway Donuts, a bag of Doritos Cool Ranch and some Kraft French Onion Dip. I am a healthy person in general, but no health nut. I love to eat way to much.

I have completed many 24 hour fasts in the past and used one every Sunday this summer to help me lose over 30lbs. I have many books on the benefits of a fasting and have always wanted to attempt a 3 day fast, but never got around to it.

The secret to my successful 24 hour fasts has always been sleep, so this is exactly how I started this fast.

Day 1.

I weighed in at 9AM (225lbs) after my big meal and then went to bed around 10AM. I work nights so it was a typical sleep for my last night at work before my weekend started. I managed to sleep till around 7PM and hung out in bed for another hour in bed watching TV before getting up and getting ready for work. I weighed in at 9PM (222), the 3lb overnight weight loss is about average for me. My bike ride into work felt normal and took the standard 25 minutes.

Work was okay from 10PM to about 2PM, but after skipping lunch, which should have been a meat lovers Pizza, I did start to get a little headache. I finished up work around 6AM and had the typical bike ride home.

Passed on doing my morning workout on the elyptical and just played games on the computer. Watched TV on the couch for another hour before weighing in at 9AM (219) and then went to bed. Took my Bed time Vitamins and slammed my usual 16OZ of water with 1/4 teaspoon of Sea Salt and went to bed.

So, in the first 24 hour period I lost 6lbs. Nothing out of the ordinary for A 24hour fast for me. Everything is like "been there done that" so far.

Day 2

I woke up around 1PM, or that is the time I decided to finally get out of bed, I had already been up twice to go to the bathroom. The 112 ounces of water is going to take its toll on my water bill :)

Played on the computer most of the day, did manage to watch Zohan, and later got out of the house to do some shopping for a new recliner. Still drinking the water, and beside from a slight Headache I still feel good. All this water is leaving me feeling full and not hungry. Except for all the fast food commercials on TV, no major cravings so far.

9PM's weight check went well as I dropped another 2 lbs in the last 12 hours, but I am behind in my water drinking for the day; only 50 ozs down. I think I will hit the couch and watch Leatherheads while I try to get caught back up on the water input. No major hunger pains, and still only a slight headache to report. Actually I feel quite good for 36 hours into my fast. Day 2 is almost over with another sleep cycle coming on. Funny, I have always read that Day 2 was supposed to be the hardest.

Day 3

Slept in today untill about 10AM. Weighed in at 216. Down only 1 pound from last night, but I did really pound the water down to hit my 112 OZ mark last night.

I always feel real good after waking up. My headache is gone, and I have plenty of energy right now.

And the day continues.

So is it about only drinking water for 3 days?

While i also think it can help to clean your organism, i have also doubts about how healthy it is (i'll search for on of those books you referenced).

The main problem i see is that when you don't eat, your body starts to "eat himself". At he same time that your body uses your fat reserves to get energy, the muscle is destroyed too at faster pace than the fat. It forces a lot of chemical reactions in your body that create a ton of toxins from transforming that muscle into sugar. Your pee and even your breath smells a lot because that, as the proteins are broken to be transformed into sugar, leaving a ton of acetone formed in the process, like when following a sever atkins no carbs diet). Acetone is also the main cause of those headaches described, your body is poisoning itself with that amount of acetone.

I have thought about having an only water day per week to help a diet, specially when you hit those walls where you seem to not to be able to lose more weight for a while, but i'm concerned about how healthy it can be.
