well that was about a good a start as the Cards could hope for.

Cringer
01-10-2010, 03:53 PM
maybe the INTs at piss poor times wasn't really a Favre thing, maybe it's just a Packer QB thing. Wonderful start, I'm not throwing in the towel yet though. I had hopes this would be the best game of the week even if not a Packers win. Go Pack Go

Thomkal
01-10-2010, 03:55 PM
oooh deja vu to the Pats game.

Cringer
01-10-2010, 03:55 PM
holy fucking shit. I am not happy.

M GO BLUE!!!
01-10-2010, 03:57 PM
Doucet gives the Cards an Early 14-0 lead? WTF?

Cringer
01-10-2010, 03:57 PM
we are using the aggregate system right? What a disaster so far.

Boy Cards getting lucky with their turnovers

MrDNA

Can there please be at least ONE interesting game this weekend?!?!

Fonzie
01-10-2010, 04:28 PM
Why didn't the Packers challenge that fumble?

Fonzie
01-10-2010, 04:28 PM
dola-

I guess because they knew another one was coming.

Thomkal
01-10-2010, 04:29 PM
ugh well those turnovers were bound to catch up to them. That would have been game over probably if they had scored too. :(

BrianD
01-10-2010, 04:29 PM
Let's hope this recovery does more for the Packers than the punt muff did for the Patriots.

Thomkal
01-10-2010, 04:30 PM
yeah I wondered why they didn't challenge it either, guess it doesn't matter now

Fonzie
01-10-2010, 04:32 PM
Three sacks already. Sheesh.

Fonzie
01-10-2010, 04:34 PM
Well, if they don't get a TD here they won't get one period.

ColtCrazy

Yeah, they look like the early season Pack.

Thomkal
01-10-2010, 04:36 PM
Three sacks already. Sheesh.

It's pretty amazing how good the Cards defensive line has gotten in just the past couple years.

Fonzie
01-10-2010, 04:36 PM
Well, it's a start at least.

BrianD
01-10-2010, 04:37 PM
The Packer players still seem to have life in them. I don't know if they can come back, but they haven't given up yet.

Cringer

hope shines, oh how I needed you right now sweet hope.

Can somebody please explain to me the goal-line play where there's a big pile-up and the referees come storming in from the sides, unpack the pile a bit, and THEN signal touchdown? Didn't the play end 10 seconds ago? What difference does it make where the ball is when they finally arrive at the pile??

BrianD
01-10-2010, 04:40 PM
I think the assumption is that the QB can't really move in that pile, so the ball is spotted at the normal carrying position. It is pretty inexact, but none of the refs could see the ball initially anyway.

Thomkal

they have to make sure who has possession of the ball.

Maybe, but I'm thinking they just like it when everyone's looking at them and they're milking it for a few seconds.

Tekneek
01-10-2010, 04:47 PM
They had this retarded part ith Jared Fogle, where he was standing behind a table with two Subway sandwiches on it.

I totally hope that guy has some sort of personality for anyone who has to interact with him in real life. On TV, he is a disaster. He has really made a lot out of that Subway diet scam.

Yeah. They run in blowing whistles and waving their hands over their heads. They get to be the stars of the show. The most important guys on the field. All eyes on them.

Fonzie
01-10-2010, 04:50 PM
Good lord. Three missed tackles on that TD.

He was married before the Subway deal. Apparently his father is a doctor and hooked him up with one of the nurses at his practice. But they got divorced and she got a six-figure deal out of that. At least, that's according to the trashpress (http://www.nationalenquirer.com/jared_subway_wife_divorce/celebrity/64516) (tm)

woohoo! Never ever discount Kurt Warner in a playoff game.

This.

He's always a joy to watch in the playoffs.

Drake
01-10-2010, 05:35 PM
Yup. There are reasons to knock Warner as a QB, but "not showing up for a playoff game" doesn't ever seem to be one of them.

ColtCrazy
01-10-2010, 05:36 PM
Warner is something else.

Who else thinks that either NFC road team could win next week, but the AFC road teams should be done?

It's not unrealistic to think Dallas could host Arizona in the NFC Championship game. Jerry Jones might have a coronary.

Eaglesfan27

sabotai
01-10-2010, 05:45 PM
That's how you execute an onside kick. A lot of times, that ball comes down 7 yards down the field and puts the kicking team in a tough spot. The ball was perfectly kicked.

jbergey22
01-10-2010, 05:48 PM
Wow these teams are playing some offense. I dont think either team can stop each other.

ColtCrazy

Oh, there's no denying that. The Ravens always play the Colts tough, but for whatever reason, Manning makes just enough plays against them. The Ravens will need a more aggressive offense to win next week. I don't see the Colts spotting them 20+ points.

Flacco will be the key.

ISiddiqui
01-10-2010, 05:49 PM
Wow, way to go Aaron Rodgers.

Jets should be tough to beat as well with their defense and running game. I think we'll see better games next week than this week.

You are right though. The NFC seems like potentially any team can win right now where as the AFC is down to 2 to major SB contenders.

I still think them dome stadiums are a bigger home field advantage than outdoor stadiums that is why I still think the Saints and Vikings are looking in good shape.

mauchow
01-10-2010, 05:54 PM
These teams are either making really good hits or absolutely horrid tackling. Where is the all around good tackling? Oh, yeah, there isn't good tackling in the NFL anymore.

ColtCrazy
01-10-2010, 05:54 PM

Eaglesfan27
01-10-2010, 05:57 PM

Thomkal
01-10-2010, 05:58 PM
woohoo! Cards gotta stop having these quick scores though, take some time off the clock please, lol. Defense is really going to be worn out now.

Fonzie
01-10-2010, 05:58 PM
Wow. Replays show Cards should've been called for holding, instead Jenkins gets called for a BS roughing the passer. Inexcusable officiating.

01-10-2010, 05:58 PM
Another amazing catch.

Am I the only one that isn't sure it was a catch?

mauchow
01-10-2010, 05:58 PM
Should have been offensive pass interference and roughing the passer thus negating the play and a replay.. which the Cards would have scored again. But how do you miss Fitzgerald pushing over the defender? lol

Thomkal
01-10-2010, 05:58 PM
Horrid roughing the passer call. Horrid.

Yeah that was pretty awful

BrianD
01-10-2010, 06:00 PM
I didn't think the roughing call was that bad. If you are a ref and you see a defender pull a QB down by the facemask, you have to throw the flag.

Touchdown Packers because of it. LMAO

BrianD
01-10-2010, 06:07 PM
CBs are looking really awful today. They aren't getting to the ball and they aren't putting themselves in positions to make a tackle. Seems like way more yardage after the catch than normal for both teams.

ColtCrazy
01-10-2010, 06:07 PM
4th and 5, and you give up a TD. Hell, 50 may not be enough. I <3 this game.

Thomkal
01-10-2010, 06:07 PM
well that was pretty pathetic to give that up on a 4th and 5 Cardinals

Eaglesfan27

ColtCrazy
01-10-2010, 06:15 PM

Exactly, just have Rodgers and Warner shoot it out. Who wants to see a run. Saw enough of that for a lifetime in the Ravens game. :)

kingfc22
01-10-2010, 06:30 PM
If Green Bay scores on this upcoming drive, they should go for 2 because they are not going to win in OT if Arizona gets the ball first.

BrianD
01-10-2010, 06:31 PM
This is setting up for a late Packer TD and a 2-point converstion to decide the game.

Eaglesfan27
01-10-2010, 06:31 PM
Do you think they will really risk going for 2?

Crapshoot
01-10-2010, 06:31 PM

Thomkal
01-10-2010, 06:32 PM
ya know I wouldn't have minded if this game had turned into a blowout like the others after the Cards led 17-0....:) Sadly I've seen the Cards defense just fall apart too many times this season to think it would happen.

I wonder if the Packers lose this game if it means Aaron Rodgers is not clutch?

ColtCrazy
01-10-2010, 06:33 PM
The way it's going, the Packers are liable to score with a minute or two left. I can see this coming down to a Rackers field goal. The Pack need to score, but if they get in range, they need to milk a little clock.

Wow.

BrianD
01-10-2010, 06:35 PM
I think they have to go for 2. Playing on the road knowing that the OT coin flip decides the game...I think they want to control what they can.

ColtCrazy

One thing I don't understand is the need for instant gratification when watching a football game.

During the college National Championship poster after poster in the first half was writing, "it's over" "ballgame" "I am shutting it off!"

Same kind of attitude here. Have people lost the ability to watch a game to its conclusion and see how it turns out? All this early, "told u they sucked yo" stuff is really odd.

If I'm McCarthy and you score with <15 seconds left, I'd go for 2. If he doesn't make it, he is killed in the media, but based on how the game is going...

That, sadly, has become part of the football culture. I was angry when the Colts fans booed when they took out the starters against the Jets.

And look at the Pats game today. They were booing in the first quarter, then got behind them when they scored, then booed again later.

Patience is a lost art.

The helmet to helmet on the previous was definitely a penalty the way they call it nowadays but the ref was looking at the hold on the ground and throwing the flag. Unfortunate for the Pack.

I'd love to hear what the correct call should have been on the facemask because I can see a bunch of ways it could go. My logical guess is personal foul, 15 yards but the Cardinals take possession because the ball was already loose, but I have absolutely no idea.

Wolfpack
01-10-2010, 07:14 PM
Hm. Initially I would have thought it was incidental since the ball was up by Rogers's head and going for the ball would have made it hard not to make contact with the facemask, but looking at it again, he doesn't really let go once he's made contact and does use it to help leverage Rogers away from the ball. Blown call, but unreviewable so nothing to be done for it, much like what happened in the San Diego-Colorado playoff game in MLB back in '07 where Holliday was declared safe even though all the replays eventually showed he never tagged home.

Who else thinks that either NFC road team could win next week, but the AFC road teams should be done?

I would not count out Baltimore against Indy given how the end of Indy's season went down. But I don't give the Jets much of a chance against the Chargers given San Diego's momentum right now. The Jets may well put up a fight, but the Chargers should beat them.

I actually didn't see the play so I am going off what has been said. I'm assuming the facemask did not cause the fumble and happened while the ball was loose. That being said it would still be Arizona's ball but they would be penalized 15 yards from basic spot, and in this case it would be the end of the run.

Correct, he hit the ball while the QB's arm was in the air, knocked it loose, and the continued motion of the arm hit the QB's facemask, then he grabbed on and pulled him down.

However, the end of the run was a TD (that won the game), so what happens then?

The end of the run was the place where Rodgers fumbled. Thats where the ball became loose and the foul occurred right after that...everything after that point is considered null.

Incorrect. If there was a ball scrambling free on the ground and a defender held an offensive player from getting the ball the offense would keep possession. How is this different?

At the time of the foul no one has possession it then goes back to the offense.

With that said its possible you are correct but it just wouldnt make any sense to me. Suppose the defender was grabbing Rodgers facemask to keep him from getting the ball back. It wouldnt seem right that the defense could do this to recover the ball and only lose 15 yards for it.

After further review, Packers got screwed

Posted by Mike Florio on January 11, 2010 7:50 AM ET
We've received more than a few e-mails in the aftermath of Sunday night's for-the-ages battle between the Packers and the Cardinals regarding the non-call on the play that delivered victory for the home team via a sack, fumble/interception, and 17-yard sprint for a score.

At first, the words "tuck rule (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/01/10/in-packers-cardinals-game-tuck-rule-doesnt-matter/)" dominated the discussion.

Then, the focal point became the blow to the head and the yanking of the facemask that Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers (http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&id=3118) endured as Arizona defensive back Michael Adams (http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&id=4576) collided into Rodgers.

Here's the video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZCbmc0IIM4).

As one league source said via e-mail, "It should have been a personal foul grabbing the face mask and 15-yard penalty and a first down for Green Bay."

And we agree, completely. The incidental facemask call disappeared a couple of years ago, replaced by a rule that even a minor grab of the bars attached to the helmet triggers the major infraction.

Moreover, we've routinely seen quarterbacks take minor blows to the head and draw flags for roughing the passer.

So what happened? Though the tuck rule didn't matter because the ball bounced off Rodgers' foot before it was caught by Cardinals linebacker Karlos Dansby (http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&id=2663), the official undoubtedly was watching Rodgers' arm and the ball for any evidence of the convoluted mechanical process that makes a fumble not a fumble when the quarterback was in the process of moving his arm forward but hadn't released the ball before having the ball knocked out.

The bigger problem is that the FOX announcers and the folks talking into their ears didn't bother to delve into the question of whether not one but two penalties had occurred. Joe Buck said "Rodgers gets a hand to the face" during the live call, but Buck and his producer(s) blew an excellent opportunity to explain first that the tuck rule didn't matter in this case and second that what did matter was the failure of the men in black and white to see that Adams had not only hit Rodgers in the head but also had grabbed and tugged his facemask.

So, yes, Packers fans, you have every right to be upset.

Then again, watch the video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZCbmc0IIM4). Adams didn't get a free release from Rodgers' blind side. He had to cut in front of an underneath receiver before circling into the backfield, and Rodgers could have (and should have) seen Adams coming.

By our count, Rodgers had the ball in his hands for three full seconds before getting hit.

When Rodgers was getting thrown around like a rag doll in the first half of the season, he quietly was being criticized within the locker room for holding the ball too long. And that's the biggest thing that the Packers need to address this offseason in order to make Rodgers into a guy who can deliver consistently in the clutch.

After further review, Packers got screwed | ProFootballTalk.com (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/01/11/after-further-review-packers-got-screwed/)

I still can get over how much the Ravens dominated the Pats especially in the running game and on the defensive side of the ball. I know Brady apparently has been banged up with broken ribs or something but really it was less about the Pats playing poorly as it was the Ravens making them look so bad.

Thomkal
01-11-2010, 09:56 AM
I agree RedKingGold that a penalty should have been called on that play and probably the one before it too with the head to head of the QB hit on Rodgers. But if Rodgers had hit a wide open Jennings on the first play of overtime, the game would have been over already. And then he probably held on to the ball too long on the play where he fumbled.

So yes Packer fans have a right to be angry at the officials, but they should be angry at Rodgers too for his play in overtime.

It's too bad really that such a great game had to end on such a controversial play.

BrianD
01-11-2010, 10:07 AM
I don't think we Packer fans have a right to be angry. Disappointed maybe, but not angry. While the last two plays contained penalties that should have been called, neither caused Green Bay to lose the game. The only thing that would have resulted from calling the penalty on the last play was nullifying a mistake. I don't feel that you can ever blame the refs for not nullifying a mistake. If you want to win, you have to avoid those mistakes at the crucial situations.

I don't know, Flacco's stellar line makes me lean towards it being Pats playing poorly. Yeah, Ravens played well too, but I don't think you can overlook Welker being gone and Brady having all those injuries.

According to Peter King, the reason why the Jets' punter didn't play wasn't merely because he "felt ill", but because he was found to have a racing and irregular heartbeat just prior to the game.
