View Full Version : What creates 10+ yard runs for RB's?

I've always wondered about this.

What rating is playing the biggest part in netting RB's 10+ yard runs.

My guess was always a combination of Hole Recognition, Elusiveness and Breakaway Speed but I'd love to hear what others thought. Especially from the vets that are in multiple leagues and have extensive testing.

Anyone?

Does a strong OL possibly play into the equation as well?

mostly it's... dice rolls.

... and - as a wild guess - all You mentioned, plus the defensive formation used. Always good to run against agg. pass def with 4 deep in the zone.

Not an expert, by any means, but I've had surprising luck with this guy -

Ed Suarez (http://www.fof-ihof.com/players/player.php?player=16678)

Barely average, but great HR and Elusiveness. He's been getting 35-40 10+ every season. So just anecdotally, I'm under the impression that those are the primary causes, then OL, then Breakaway/Speed to the Outside. And of course, running to your strongest OL has to help.

I think it's elusiveness

Ben knows the answer to this. He has done extensive study on it. He didn't post a thread on it, but I quite sure if you PM him he will be happy to share the data with him. If you happen to have his e-mail address you should e-mail him about it as well. You might want to try PMing him at WOOF, IHOF and FOFL as well.

He can be a bit tough to pin down sometimes so multiple PMs let him know you are serious and that you are asking for something important. Hope this helps.

Linty, I'm pretty sure that you're on the right track with those three ratings, but I don't know for sure. I do know for sure that Primelord is a poopy-head.

I've had good success in getting high YPC from a 40/40 rated RB with 100 in Elusiveness and 62 in Breakaway Speed. Of course, that was under 6.2 and I ran probably 80% of my plays outside the guards.

I'm not getting a good gauge on 6.3a yet because all my RB's are doing pretty good no matter what their ratings are.

I was under the impression it was mostly dependent on elusiveness.

Not statistical in any way, but this guy has a 100 in elusiveness and 15% of his runs are 10+ this year. Of course, there are a lot of variables such as OL, game situations, etc, but I frequently find these types of players have some success.

Elusiveness keeps guys from getting tackled behind the line of scrimmage.
