Colts look flat and out of sync. They'll be a good team, but not today.

Houston finally has figured out not to let Schaub blow the game. Grind it out and keep things simple. Colts are getting mauled, why take risks?

Fixed that for you

No doubt. But I'd never seen him play before, so I didn't want to malign his entire career just because he looks like a Pop Warner player in an NFL world out there today. :)

Arian Foster with over 100 yards now. It's just one game, but it would be huge if he could bring some consistency to the Houston running game.

its nice to see a HC realize that when the other team cant stop your rushing to actually keep feeding the ball to the backs instead of having your overrated QB throw your team out of the game *cough childress*

As impotent as this Detroit offense has been, why wouldn't you just kick the three there if you're Chicago? Are you really that scared that they're going to score again?

I agree, there haven't even been many penalties. Just a slow, plodding game with not much offense and no WOW defense either.

Psychologically, the Texans and Houston needed this win (especially with a sizable fourth quarter lead). After "Rosencopters" and blown fourth quarter leads over the past couple of years, another opening week loss to Indy could've derailed the season before it even really started.

True....and surely the run defense can't be this bad for the rest of the season.

But the defense on that last one was bad. I could have run into the end zone.

T.O. + Ochocinco + washed up Carson Palmer = self-destruction. Glad I avoided that trainwreck in fantasy.#'s are a little inflated with the huge halftime deficit, but Ochocinco has looked great. 12 for 160 and a td on 13 targets, including at least 3 great sideline grabs (and another one right now while getting laid out by Meriwether). Gresham looks like a good pick-up in deep or keeper leagues, and even T.O. should get some stats - I don't think he'll blow up because Chad is his homeboy. Even Palmer had 340 and 2 td's.

Overall, the Pats offense did look very good (as expected), but any time you can add a defensive TD and a special teams TD your odds of winning go up substantially.

The two dropped pick sixes didn't help either. But Marshall, Brown, and the pass rush looked pretty good at least.

If I had seen your earlier post I'd have told you to try the MIA-BUF stream at ATDHE.net, it was clear and didn't stutter for the entire second half which is kind of remarkable.

Also, how do you love that the way Buck (he was calling the game, right- I just switched over for that last play) frames it was "Well, it's the right call but there should be an exception". That way it sounds like the NFL got it right no matter what even tho it's not nearly so cut and dry

Glad to see Troy back. He is one of the biggest difference makers in the NFL and, in my opinion, last season's injury moved us from contender to missing the playoffs.

Unfortunately, it looks like the Big Snack and Max Stark may both be out for awhile. It's been a rough two years for injuries -- especially in the two areas where we have the least depth (along each line).

Dixon needs to get a lot better between week 1 and 2 if he wants to have a long NFL career, which is entirely possible. Too many rushed/bad throws today and not enough positive scrambling plays for my liking.

Having watched the whole game (friend is a Bills fan), I have to disagree with the defense playing well. The Bill's playcalling was atrocious, and their execution was horrid. How do you only rush 14 times with Jackson, Lynch and Spiller? The no-huddle drive was great, but otherwise it was more the Bills sucking than the Dolphins playing good D.

That was a werid game for stats. It felt like Palmer could/should have thrown 3-4 INTs with the risks he was taking. Instead he ends up with what looks like an efficient game (+ a free 50 yards on a useless hail mary).

I think the Patriots actually suffered from running that TD back for the first score of the 2nd half as their offense didn't see the field again until barely any time was left in the 3rd quarter and their defense wore out.

Been one hell of a year for Detroit teams & bad calls. I hope the dick that made that call gets the stomach virus that had me laid up in major pain for the last week (lost 10 lbs in the process.) Fuck him.

Next week Lions, don't let the dickheads wearing stripes decide a fucking thing. Knock the other teams dicks off on every play then point to the scoreboard & tell the refs to suck it after the final gun.

Man this has been a pretty ugly Giants/Panthers game. And now Matt Moore may be hurt. 6 Carolina turnovers, 4 Giants turnovers

Moore was awful. He looked great during the 2 minute drill at the end of the first half. Outside of that he was just terrible. The first interception there were 5 defenders close to the intended receiver. The last two inside the red zone were just horrible decisions. The one thing that bugs me the most was watching Carolina get 1st and goal around the 5 after a pass interference call and watching them call three pass plays in a row, all three were terrible throws, Deangelo Williams doesn't get a single run inside the 5, really!?

At one point in the 2nd quarter they showed that Carolina had ~75 yards rushing and the Giants had -2. At the end of the game Carolina had 89 and the Giants over 100.

Yeah was very surprised Williams didn't get a chance to run it in, especially given the play early in the game where he was on his way to a TD if not for a great play by the safety. Probably (hopefully) John Fox's last season if this game is any indication of what things are going to be like.

THIS is what a hate about "fantasy" football. A guy's season may be over (who knows from there) and all you hear from guys is "damn, I started him in my fantasy league." On the other end, someone will claim to be a fan of a team, but be jumping up and down, thrilled because he started a player that just destroyed his real team.

Agreed, MGB. And this is coming from a big Fantasy Football guy. It's kind of why I avoid picking players from my own team and division rivals. The rivals is harder to do, but if I see equal value I'll take that just to avoid having to even consider rooting for the enemy.

Dear Andy Reid,

Keep that animal molestor on the sidelines and let your inexperienced QB try to get into the flow of the game!!! Kolb will never get going if you keep putting that jackass in every other play, especially when it looks like you have no clue what plays to call when he is in the game and are putting him in just to put him in!!!

Starting to hear some boos in Philly already... Kolb looks like a small school guy who has only started a couple of games in his career.

What's gotta be more worrying for Eagles fans is that Reid doesn't seem to trust him to throw down the field right now. Could see a lot more Michael Vick in the second half of this one.

Thomkal
09-12-2010, 04:59 PM

This is going to lead to a painful QB controversy here now. I never cared for Kolb but I can't find myself cheering for that scumbag either.

Reid should notice that the team moves better with the game plan used this half instead of that crap he was calling in the first half. But he never sems to get that.

If he had held the ball when he stood up then it would have been a catch. Since he left it on the ground when he got up to celebrate then it was rules incomplete, or so I have been lead to understand.

The rule is that when making a catch along the sidelines or in the endzone the receiver must control the ball through hitting the ground, which he didn't in this case. Unless there has been a change to that rule that I don't know about.

And to be fair, when he was younger he would have ran it in. But, when he was younger he probably wouldn't have gotten that close, because he putting a touch on the ball tonight I didn't see him use in all the years he had in Atlanta. He is making good hard throws with touch.

So if I'm understanding this correctly, even though he was touched by a defender in the act of falling down, and thus would be down by contact as soon as any part of his body that isn't his hands or feet hits the ground, since it's the endzone, his ass hitting the ground doesn't end the play? He clearly had possession of the ball through impact with the ground via his ass, therefore from my perspective, play over. Why does the rule change in the end zone?

I think on the CJ catch what puzzles me, is a two toe tap along the sidelines is a TD...the moment of possession the ball has crossed the plane. No football related move no BS....

It doesn't change. No matter where you are on the field, if you are in the air and/or are falling to the ground when you catch the ball, you have to maintain control of the ball throughout the fall. He doesn't technically have "possession" until he does that.

The problem is that there needs to be rules like this, just like with the tuck rule. I certainly don't want the refs to start trying to make decisions based on what they think the player was trying to do. They make enough mistakes as it is. :)

If you are taking one shot at the endzone take it on 4th down. Does it matter if you are taking a 40 yard shot at the endzone or a 37 yard shot at it? If they had used their timeouts correctly they would have still had about 30 seconds left on that play and maybe could haverunit so they could hurry up to spike it and still have 2 or 3 shots left.

Honestly, after the call in the Lions game, I'm having a really difficult time watching the NFL right now. I think that one call may sap the entire season for me. If a rule is written so clear cut that what Johnson did isn't a catch, the rule is a joke and needs to go away.

Just horrible.

I agree with you here. This is exactly why I didn't like the redefinition of what is a catch. The whole maintain control after contact with the ground BS. I don't really have an answer, but this is taking the ball out of the player's hands.

Ok, forgetting the screwed up clock management beforehand, if it's 4th and 1 with 10 seconds left, and you're at the 40, with one TO left, it could be argued to run it to get a bit closer and have time enough for one more play. If you don't have the timeout, obviously you chuck it on 4th down.

Foster saw carries in only 4 games during the 2009 season as the Texans looked for anything possible to jumpstart their running game (30th in the league in rushing yards). He's been the team's clear first option throughout the offseason...today probably solidifies that. Sorry, Steve Slaton.

Well the mistake was less the hold and more getting completely fucking beat by Orakpo. At that point, a TD wasn't going to be scored no matter what.

Yeah, exactly - the "crime" was really getting worked. If he doesn't hold, Romo goes down anyways. I guess you might as well hope that the penalty doesn't get called.

Orapko is a fuckin beast
I was excited when we drafted him, that excitement hasn't reduced in the 17 games I've seen him.

Trent Williams doesn't look so bad either.

Oh and for all those crying about the Detroit game?

Don't yell at the refs, they got it right, everyone should be cringing at what an utter DUMBFUCK the receiver was for not playing to the whistle on the game ending play.

I don't know about "dumbfuck". Watching it again, I think he honestly dropped it or lost control of it at the last second and tried to make it look like he was celebrating. What he should've done was used his 2nd hand to grab hold of it properly.

I hope we at least tried to get Housh - that would have been an upgrade with no cost in a trade.

Love that Barron was the one who got the penalty. Thank goodness the Rams got rid of him!

Hopefully the cowboys offensive line is at full health next week for the Bears. I'd really fucking hate to go into the Texans, Titans, Vikings, Giants stretch 0-2.

Bears by all rights should have lost at home to a team that went 2-14 last year and lost its starting QB by halftime.

If the Boys need a healthy O-line to beat that, they have a lot more to worry about than their tough upcoming schedule.

Acquiring a disgruntled big name player who wants to get paid big $$$ - when has that ever blown up in the Redskins' face?

My favorite play today was this one from the Jaguars game. I don;t know if anyone noticed or mentioned it.

Tebow took his first NFL snap and carry, and then was stuffed. By whom? Tyson Alualu, the player the Jags took in the first round, that many were saying should have been Tebow. I thought it funny and interesting that the player the Jags went on a limb to draft instead of Tebow, was the one who stuffed Tebow on his first NFL carry.

I think on the CJ catch what puzzles me, is a two toe tap along the sidelines is a TD...the moment of possession the ball has crossed the plane. No football related move no BS....

The second he touched down with control the play should be over.

I understand the rule I just disagree with it.

Here's what I don't get. If a player dives for the end zone with the ball while carrying it, the minute it crosses the plane, it's a TD, correct?

So why all the "process" drama over a catch? Why are the two different?

Nice to see the Pats fans were on here burying the Bengals season.

I'm not trying to say they looked good despite the loss, or even that I thought it was fine, BUT I did have that game chalked up as a loss. Plus, you add to that that the Bengals had several slow starts last year, so I was not surprised that they came out flat and the Pats looked great. You would just think that the Bengals would realize that if you come out flat against a team of the Pats caliber, that they will step on your throat and break your neck, which is what they did.

Nice game by the Pats, but the Bengals are not done, Palmer is not through, and TO and CO are not about to blow-up. The Bengals lost to a better team on the road.

Whoopty-doo. The Pats did their job, let's have a ticker-tape parade.

I finally got to see parts of the Falcons game. Upset in how it ended. I know that it is tough to play on the road in Pittsburgh, and they have a good defense and all. The Falcons really need to score more points than that though. If the offense is supposed to carry this team, you have to put the points on the board to win against the tougher teams too (especially the ones missing their starting QB).

The player has already established possession (for 1 yard or 99) in your example, but in Megatron's case, he was in the act of establishing possession. Two completely different situations, completely different rules.
