Kenny McKinley was found dead today. He was a promising young wide receiver in his second year with Denver who was on the IR with a knee injury. It was an apparent suicide via gunshot to the head. He was the alltime leading pass catcher for South Carolina U and still holds that record.

Sheriff: Broncos WR Kenny McKinley found dead - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/fbn_broncos_mckinley_death)

WTF?

WTF?

Pretty sad especially if it was because of football and being injured. It also sounds like he had left behind a young kid but no wife major bummer:(

any word on Reggie Bush?

According to Schefter, it's a fractured fibula.

Not a horrible injury. Depending on the type of surgery needed, sounds like a 6-8 week recovery.

From the Department of Really Bad Headlines, SI.com's headline about last night's game:

Clutch When It Matters

Uh...if it didn't matter, would it still be clutch?

Braylon Edwards gets busted | ProFootballTalk.com (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/09/21/braylon-edwards-get-busted/)

Just as we were preparing to begin hurling superlatives at a self-described Super Bowl contender that began to start looking like one once they stopped talking about being one, receiver Braylon Edwards (http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&id=3126) has provided an unwanted distraction with a DUI arrest.

According to Larry Celona of the New York Post, Edwards was arrested (http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/jets_wr_braylon_edwards_busted_in_hrRuX0jLRyTc274OQXAD7N) at 5:15 a.m. ET, and he blew a 0.16 percent blood alcohol concentration. That's twice the legal limit of 0.08. (We got the head's up from one of our friends at NBC, who heard the news while listening to Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton on WFAN.)

Edwards remains in police custody.

The move comes less than a year after Edwards was arrested in Cleveland for assault. He later pleaded no contest to the charges, and he was not suspended by the NFL.

With Edwards and Santonio Holmes (http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&id=3635) both in their contract years and with the Jets likely to keep one and not the other over the long term, Edwards just made it a little harder for him to be the guy who sticks around.

worse yet, they have the player protection program which means a quick phone call and someone comes and drives him and his car home.

Seriously?

Damn - there goes that awesome idea I had for a side business of keeping pro athletes out of trouble/stupid situations.

I'm having a really hard time analyzing what last night's game means for the 49ers. Someone who has a bit less biased opinion want to tell me what they think of the team? It's hard not to get excited that with such a mistake riddled game, the Niners almost beat the defending champs.

Honestly, it doesn't seem like the Saints are firing on all cylinders so far. On the other hand, SF looks better than I thought they would.

Hope you enjoyed the celebrations last night for the G.O.A.T., #80.

The NFL's possession rules continue to confound with their transitive properties.

So on the 2-pt conversion last night, Vernon Davis gets credit for possessing the ball as he falls back across the goal line, but it's not a confirmed catch until he falls down and gets up at the 3 yard line with the ball still in hand?

Hate to burst your bubble but the same holds true in the lower two levels too.

My uninformed thoughts are that Vernon Davis gained possession in the end zone, but he maintained possession all the way through. The spot is where his forward progress is stopped, but it's only valid because he maintained possession. That's just my interpretation, though. It makes sense in my head.

I get it, and I can wrap my head around it similar to Pumpy's explanation. I just find it absurd in a big picture sense that there is a time and a place (Vernon Davis at GLE) where a player simultaneously has and does not have possession of the football. Kind of like the blue line in hockey.

Now if he is touched...then gets two feet down...then falls...we have a totally different story :)
