Only one matchup of ranked teams this weekend, with 'Bama traveling to Happy Valley to take on Penn State. This week's game kick off on Thursday, with Arizona playing Oklahoma State in Stillwater.

Rutgers travels to North Carolina on Saturday. The key to the matchup will be our offensive line against their pass rush.
Don't think we'll pull it out but should be a fun game.

You also have Notre Dame vs. Michigan. Definitely not the match-up it was years ago, but still a big deal in the Midwest and important to both programs who are desperately seeking to rekindle some respectability.
It's also the first night night game in the history of Michigan Stadium. Michigan is going to be sporting some throwback uniforms.

Mizzou and Arizona State are both ranked and playing this week in Tempe. Looks like the game opened with ASU as a 7 point favorite. Given the so-so performances by both of these teams in week 1, I wouldn't touch this bet with a 10 foot pole on either side.

'Bama vs. PSU is a matter of 'Bama's QBs not screwing up like they did in game one and I think they will. Michigan vs. ND is a toss up. ND gained a ton of yards, but had 5 TOs in a close loss. Michigan still gave up yards in a solid win, but used turnovers to help separate from WMU. The game will be won, or lost at the line. Can ND's O Line keep Michigan's blitzing in check? Can Michigan's O Line create enough running room for players not named Robinson?

I think we will pull it out. We lost to them by 3 last year with about as bad an offense as you can have. Scott Vallone is gonna go beast mode on them.

Good test for Washington in week 2 to see if they can fix the glaring issues they had in pass defense vs. Eastern Washington as Hawaii and Bryant Moniz come to town.
I was reasonably confident before the season started that the Huskies would win this one, but I'm a lot less confident now.

Big +1. Moniz scares the hell out of me after seeing what EW did.
The added scare factor is that Mitchell wasn't really a running threat. He scrambled effectively a couple times to buy time for his receivers, but he wasn't going to take off downfield for big gains. Moniz however clearly is capable of burning us big-time if we don't keep contain on him, which just complicates things for our young LBs even more.
The one good thing I'll say is that, for the most part, our defense did well on 1st & 2nd down and it was major breakdowns on 3rd down that were the problem. And the errors were correctable ones - improving our zone drops, getting more aggressive about defending the man in your zone, being more aggressive on your blitzes and not thinking too much, lining up with the proper depth distance (too many cases of our corners lining up too far off the LOS).
Still, a lot of legit worries about the Huskies after week 1.

SC vs UGA could be interesting, at least if you're into QB controversies & coaching hot seats. CMR almost certainly has to steal at least two games he isn't supposed to win in order to keep his job (although the closest thing I've got to a source these days says anything short of the Eastern Div title means he's gone), this is a chance to get one of those games if Spurrier gets his QB rotation wrong.

I think he survives a loss this weekend (short-term) if only because they don't really have a plan B ready to go on short notice. If his fate has become clear by late in the season, I wouldn't be surprised to see an interim HC (probably Rodney Garner) finish the season ... clearing the way for Jon Gruden to be hired shortly after the season ends.

Nope, haven't read it in ages.
That's just the word I've been hearing for months from someone who doesn't steer me often but has never steered me wrong so far either. I have a tougher time buying the "must-at-least-win-the-East-or-be-fired" part than I do the Gruden part frankly.
And since this kind of thing seems to stir controversy around here, I'm not particularly interested in impressing anyone here with some "anonymous source", I'm just sharing what I've been told by someone that I believe has reason/access to know things, take it or leave it {shrug}.

If it goes too far south & he doesn't, he may find himself with the proverbial moving van sitting in his driveway some morning. (not saying he'd be ousted, just that the natives would turn incredibly hostile toward him for failing to act)
As it is the only thing missing are the "Fire Mark Richt" bumper stickers (ala Willie Martinez) that became quite popular around Athens a few years back ... of course, on the other hand, that doesn't seem to have helped much.

Amazing that we've won 22 straight non-conference games, including 8 straight away from home. Just from looking over some Arizona St. boards and local newspapers, they're building this up as a must win for their coach. Would love to see the boys keep that streak going.

Mizzou secondary gave up three big deep balls on CB to S switches. If they can clean that up in the second half, we should win the game. MU didn't play well and is still only down six on the road against a good opponent.

I was at the game and thought Franklin looked awful...maybe re-watching it on TV will give me a different perspective, but he lingered far too long in the pocket, took off far too easily, and when he did throw was usually nowhere near his target. I felt like we were in that game despite Franklin, not because of him

Franklin wasn't the problem last night. He played very well and really impressed.
30 points should be plenty. That defense has been called by Pinkel 'the best defense he's ever had'. Looked to me last night that it still needs some work on how a CB hands off a receiver to a safety.
With that said, still an extremely fun game to watch. Ressel has been nails his entire career. We'll give him a pass on one bad game.

Here's hoping Liberty avenges the upset loss at Robert Morris last year that kept them out of the FCS playoffs.
Last week, Liberty had outgained NC State by 180 yards midway through the 3rd but trailed 23-15 due to 2-time Big South Player of the Year, Mike Brown, already throwing 3 INTs and fumbling twice by that point. If they avoid another meltdown from Brown, they should be able to move at will against a solid opponent that lost 13 starters from last year. ESPN 3 coverage for this one.
Liberty would be a legit contender in FCS this year if starting NT Asa Chapman, 6-5 380, hadn't been busted for marijuana and cocaine on a traffic stop two weeks ago. Chapman, Brown (as a WR--his first BSC POY was as a WR), WR Chris Summers, and K Matt Blevins are all receiving NFL interest with 13 teams already having scouts attend practices at LU.
Coastal Carolina is going to win the Big South this year. :) Lots of questions coming into the season but answered many with a nice win over Furman to get things started. Play Catawba this week for what better be an easy win then next week they travel to Georgia to play some horrible team there in that mediocre conference, the SEC or something like that. :D
Too bad the Liberty/Coastal Carolina tilt is near the beginning of Big South conference play this year-its likely between those two and Stony Brook for the conference title.

If the ref is doing his job, instead of standing around with his thumb up his ass, there's no need to run out there. If a coach gets a penalty for that, the ref should get fined for being so incompetent he caused it.
There's not 11 players on the field? One of the them can't find an official to call timeout?
A player who participated during the previous down may request a
timeout between the time the ball is declared dead and the snap without
being between the nine-yard marks (A.R. 3-3-4-I and II).
Even more clearly, from Rule 1, Section 1
ARTICLE 5. ... c. Any player may request a team charged timeout.
And from Rule 3, Section 3
ARTICLE 4. When timeouts are not exhausted, an official shall allow a
charged team timeout when requested by any player or head coach when the
ball is dead (A.R. 3-3-4-I and II).

That's fine ... but a head coach doesn't belong 25 yards out on the field of play even if they are.
The fault here is entirely on the ref.
Bullshit. The fault here is on the coach for failing to have at least one player on the field with his head far enough out of his ass to call a timeout that would have been obvious to an 8 y/o pee wee rookie linebacker.

Gophers coach Jerry Kill suffered a seizure on the sidelines with 20 seconds remaining in the Gophers' game against New Mexico State on Saturday, rolling around on the ground as paramedics tried to hold him down.
The Gophers trailed 28-21 and were driving towards a potential game-tying score when Kill fell to the ground, his legs kicking and his head moving back and forth as medical personnel rushed to his side.
His players knelt in prayer as paramedics worked on the coach. Kill's wife Rebecca was by his side as doctors worked on the coach.

Only if the band was on the field. :)

Now that was almost funny at the end.

Oh, and Schmidty... I forgot to say congratulations on your Spartans shutout victory today. Impressive.

The heat will already be turned up on Brian Kelly, they will be lucky to get to 7 wins now

The worst game of football I have ever watched, also the most exciting.
I agree. Michigan can't pressure a QB without a blitz, but they make up for it by not being able to cover.

That makes the third straight game decided in last :30 seconds. Craziness. Michigan had no right to win that game, but did anyway. I was laughing my butt off for about the last minute, or so of the game.

Pretty cool how basically no one has left the stadium yet.
That's college football folks.
(Even if it is further north than the good stuff usually is ;) )

Thrilling game !
Gotta say, Robinson put up some nice numbers .. but, damn - I'm pretty sure over half of his completions were just closing his eyes and watching his receivers go up and make plays.

When you complete 11 passes for 338 yards, it's generally a good indication that maybe the opposing D was kinda bad.

It will be a different defense next year based on the talent 'Bama loses, but I'm sure 'Bama can't wait to play Michigan.

Almost every big 2013 recruit in the Midwest was at the game and one of them, Dymonte Thomas out of Ohio committed just now.

Always a great day when Notre Dame loses!
A rare moment where we agree on a sports outcome.

I wouldn't have been rooting so hard against Michigan if MSU didn't play against ND next week. I don't want them extra pissed, although they weren't all that impressive anyway. Also, ND is my third favorite team behind MSU and Western Michigan. My home town of Schoolcraft (south of K-zoo) is only about 45 minutes from South Bend, and I went to some Irish games over the years.
I probably would have gotten caught up in the excitement otherwise. If Michigan looked like it was going to be any good this year, I might have been even more annoyed. ;)

Nevada: 516 total yds, 38 min TOP...and they lose 69-20. Oregon is just incredible.

Oregon was pretty pissed after blowing goats last week.

Sure..ignore the fact that LSU forced those turnovers and their defense completely shut down Oregon's offense (last TD was w/ the 2nd/3rd team d in and Kelly frantically trying to score). LSU's D dominated that game, Oregon just got beat.

It's good for the coaching staff that Michigan came back to win. The defensive call on the ND touchdown was baffling. The found a way to get all the negatives of a full out blitz with none of the positives.

They wont be extra pissed. Just demoralized.

That was madness. Incredibly exciting.
This year is already shaping up to be eerily similar to the previous two. Beat up on the weak out of conference schedule, beat ND in the last seconds and then flame out when the Big Ten season begins.
The defense is still very weak, but I like the scheme better. The offense isn't quite as electrifying and effective as it was last year, but it's a work in progress.
A decent secondary will eat those jump balls alive. Fortunately, ND's secondary appeared to have zero ball skills.
Still, super exciting game. Love beating ND.
We can worry about the future when it happens.

So given the ending to the USC/Utah game, are we just waiting for the first end-of-game scoring play that should decide the game, but gets nullified by a celebration penalty? What if USC/Utah was tied, they block the kick, and the runback is negated by everyone running on the field? I didn't really think of that until last night. The Deion Sanders high leg kick celebration on a long TD is obvious, but what about end of game stuff? How do you keep 150-200 sideline people and also the fans off the field?

PAC 12 went back and awarded the TD to USC, I had more money in my sports betting account than I did when I went to bed ;)

Ah, hadn't seen that. But I wonder if that will be applied consistently.
