Since I have started adding to my friends list recently I have been in screens that I never visited before (basically looking through the deals or my library was pretty much it prior).

Saw the complete game list (not from the library screen) which shows all of my games with the time played listed. That made me wonder which game I played the most, and if I would be surprised by it.

Not that anyone cares but here is my top 10 played (in terms of time)...

1) WWSM 2009
2) Plants vs. Zombies
3) FM 2011
4) FM 2010
5) Defense Grid
6) Skyrim
7) Frozen Synapse
8) MLB 2K9
9) Torchlight
10) Blood Bowl

Big surprise when I saw the numbers. WWSM 2009 leads by a wide margin, actually more time than the next two combined. Plants vs. Zombies is an inflated number as my daughters play it. If that is taken out and only my time playing PvZ is taken into account WWSM would probably be more than the next 4 combined.

Amazing that for someone who isn't a soccer guy that three of the top 4 are all from the FM series and that the current version hasn't made the cut yet.

Also shocked that Frozen Synapse ended up as high as it is. That has been from a lot of shorter sessions playing.

From the Store page on the main App there is a link under The Great Holiday Sale to The Great Gift Pile. From that link you will find sets of achievements which will earn you a gift of some sort (a lot seem to be coupons). There are different groups of achievements each day, though you can still do the achievments from previous days.

Just checking what you have ives you one of the achievements and a reward.

Did you trade anything recently? That gives another achievement reward.

You can scroll through the objectives and ones with open gifts as the icon have been completed.

Freebies are two for clicking on the first objective and then looking at your inventory. Then also trading something with someone as EagleFan said. There are also a few free games that have achievements like Spiral Knights and CrimeCraft GangWars.

As an FYI, the accomplishment for today for Demolition Inc doesn't seem to pop in game. Was getting frustrated trying to get it and not seeing it pop so I signed off to wait a little before trying again and that is when I noticed that I got the accomplishment.

There are two different names on your Steam account.

There are two different names on your Steam account. One is the account name (RJolly42 in your case) that you use to log in, and then there's your profile name which is what people you play, chat and trade with will see (Aragon42). Your account name can't be changed but you can change the profile name at any time under settings. Would be best to use the account name when posting here because that's the one that can be used to easily add a friend if you're not posting a link to your profile (account names are unique while people can have the same profile name) though it's probably a good idea to let people know what your profile name is too. On that note my profile name is currently Rockin' Ranger for anyone I just added.

one of the great things is, you can play any game you want. You can be supergood guy, supervillain or total mercenery neutral and it will accomodate you and give you unique stuff no matter which way you go.

More of the pain tin the ass factor. Especially when you're a level 20 and just want to grab stuff and not use ammo.

Got my first free game today from the recommend objective: Hunted: The Demon's Forge. Which I've never heard of before. Looks like it plays best as a co-op fantasy shooter, which makes it likely I would not enjoy it. So will trade it if it sounds like a game you would enjoy.

Then re-entered the game and that time it was snow level.
The snowballs are encountered on the floor inside the maze (not at the entrance). Just pick them up by attacking them and then throw them at your target.

i would guess that it is the same for doing that as it is for simply receiving a free game for solving one of the achievements. I already got a crappy game out of that and that's the only "playing a game" achievement I've gone after thus far.

I bought Terraria, played it for 15 minutes, and don't understand the point. It seems like the most boring game ever.

It's absolutely a game where you have to set your own goals and make your own fun. For me it's tons of fun to build, mine and explore the underground. There are some goals and quests to advance in the game, such as unlocking and defeating different bosses and events, though they won't be given to you in game and you'll have to read the wiki (http://wiki.terrariaonline.com/Terraria_Wiki) to learn what you need to do.

Snap bought Puzzle Agent games. My wife likes the Layton games like crazy so for that price they are worth a shot.

On a whole I don't think the puzzles in Puzzle Agent are quite as good as Professor Layton, but they're still enjoyable and I absolutely love the story and atmosphere of the series. Graham Annable's work (http://youtu.be/Tt5lB-RoAi4) is fantastic.

And as much as I love Puzzle Agent I really wish Professor Layton was available on PC.

I have 160 games after today's purchases. Most of them (probably 85%) have been purchased for less than $3. I've played about half of them, but of course I usually stock up on them around this time and work my way through them over the course of the year.

I kept trying and failing and tried to select the default white deck only to accidentally get the green deck and do redraws to where I screwed myself. Finally got the white deck and tossed insult onto injury by playing an Instant that gave me 2 life for every creature and won 39-0. It's kind of fun to see some of the newer cards and their abilities.

Speaking of quirky mechanics, I found that some of the challenges where you are given a situation and have to win in a certain number of turns not only require you to win, but to win in the exact manner they were thinking of. There was at least one that I played where I won and failed the challenge and then saw it needed to be done a different way to complete the challenge. :redface:

The card I wanted to play was a blue where you two target players swapped creatures. Apparently having only two players made it too difficult for the AI to know which ones to pick. :banghead: I'm guessing I needed to do more on my part to make sure the AI knew what to do. I just hope one of the two target players can be me.

Yep. Most annoying mechanic in Plansewalkers is figuring out the timing of stuff. I got my butt repeatedly kicked by the green deck so I switched to black. I had a guy out that was */* based on number of creatures in the graveyard and he has regenerate. Mistimed the regenerate so he died. Thankfully I got the Massacre creature to go off and I still won.

The Binding of Isaac is just an awesome game...just sunk 7 hours into it today. Havent beat it yet :( But its a fun game, every time you start a new game, it randomly generates the dungeons, enemies, bosses etc. Got it for $1.50

For anyone still thinking about crafting your coal or still doing achievements, Steam has run out of third party games and coupons so you will only be able to get Valve games and coupons. Not bad prizes necessarily, but if you already have them then coal might be best kept for contest entries at this point.

The Magicka one only took me about 20 minutes using this method from the Steam Treasure Hunt Wiki.

To get the Magicka achievement, go to the party, stand by the musicians. Hit 5 Water, BLAST, hit 5 cold, BLAST, hit 5 ice (water + cold) BLAST. Go to the north section in the middle of the 5 guys there. Do the same.
THen quit the game. Then hit the start button again. You will start in the party room with everyone alive again. Rinse repeat.

What I did is get as much wood and goo as you can. Then Make the wood floor and side walls to box yourself in. THen you can build all night protected. YOu have to make a ceiling for when the eyes come. But as long as you have enough torches you can keep working. You should jump on mckerney's server. :)

just put a hole in the ceiling of the 1st floor and jump up to the second. mckerney put some sort of thing in the ceiling floor that you can walk on and hit DOWN to descend but I don't know what that is. Just make a hole and jump up/down.

Nothing to do with your post other than its Magicka-just wanted to tell you that I tried to play it a bit after we chatted this morning. Say tried because I got to the point where you cut the rope with your sword to move on...and nothing happened no matter how many ways I tried it...so I didn't get very far. :D

Very wonky control scheme for the game especially movement, and no ability to change the controls for a few things. May mean I don't play the game very much if I can ever get past the rope. Saw others having the same problem, so doesn't seem to be owner ineptitude this time around.

went back and tried again and this time it worked-took three tries to break it. Finished the tutorial, and while I like the concept of how magic works-too confusing to use in practice when you have to remember what combos to use for the best result.

The "Total Biscuit" video of him playing multiplayer with friends is great. Really gave me an idea of what it's like and how you can have different people doing different things in combats.

As for the confusion of spells, take notes and have your notes next to you as you play. :)

Valve said that Steam Big Picture Mode is close to release. Hopefully in addition to getting developers on board with including an option for a console like UI to games they can also get developers to include an optimized PC UI so we don't have things like the Skyrim UI on PC. Probably a pipe dream, but I can hope.

TF2 gets a weekly update, and most of Valve's online games get frequent updates. Part of it is bug fixes, changes to the engine or balance fixes, but they're also to add new maps or items (it may be old, but it's also a F2P game that gets a lot of new content). There are also things like holiday events, plus TF2 is often used to test out new features or ideas Valve has for games.

Steam now has a mobile app. It is in beta right now, but I have an invite if anyone wants to try it. Shows my friends list on the phone and I can peruse games and purchase from there as well. Will be great for their big sales when I'm on the road.

My brother and I were debating this and frankly I don't see the reasons I'd want this app.

Got a new PC (YAYYYYY ME!!!!) and even though I was a Steam fan before, I'm more of one now. Never has transferring games from one computer to another been so easy. I copied the Steam folder on my old computer (Program Files/Steam) - all 126GB of it - and moved it to the new PC (Program Files (x86)/Steam) and it worked like a charm. All of my games, saved games...they all showed up. Brilliant!

It took less time to move the Steam folder than it did to download just one game (like The Witcher 2), never mind the other dozen or so games I had to get from various services (Direct2Drive, Origin, Impulse, GoG, GamersGate and Amazon).

It was weird. I would say maybe two days before they announced the Steam app, I had just searched for such an app on my iPhone.

Not at your PC when the sales are announced and wont be for a day because of vacation or what not? Log into the app, see what games are ridiculously low priced and purchase said games via this app.

I also just got a new computer and love Steam Cloud for the games that have it, especially since it seems like games use about 5 or 6 different locations for saved games.

There's not a whole lot you can do with the app right now, though I believe there is going to be Steam Workshop integration added at some point. Skyrim will be the first game to use it for mods and you'll be able to chose mods to download on your phone and either have them download when you log into Steam when you get home or instantly if you left Steam running.
